Updated review for 200 hr teacher training:
After a few months of regularly attending classes at The Lab, I signed up for their 200hr yoga teacher training. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I can't imagine a more comprehensive, balanced yoga training exists in Chicago. Chris and Wade complement each other perfectly, both of them bringing in 20 + years of experience and a genuine desire to help students by meeting them where they're at. Over the course of the training, they managed to make each person in our group of 25 feel seen and supported. They were encouraging, reliable, communicative and happy to be there. I had many injuries and was not an advanced student when I began my TT, so I was worried that I would stick out and hold back the group. Instead, I was taught modifications and learned many valuable tricks that I plan to use when teaching those with limitations. If you are thinking about doing a teacher training with The Lab, take this as your sign from the universe - you won't regret it.
Studio review:
If you're looking for an inclusive yoga studio with teachers who care about their students, this is the place. I had a major health setback in 2021 that involved multiple surgeries and radiation.I wanted to get back into yoga, but I was afraid - I knew some teachers pushed too hard. A friend told me about this place and suggested I reach directly out to the owner, Chris. He was incredibly thoughtful and attentive on our phone call and helped me decide which classes were a good fit. Over the last few months, every teacher I've taken a class with has been beyond supportive. There is something truly special about the little community that The Lab has created and I would recommend this spot to anyone, regardless of where they're at in their yoga journey.
ps: shoutout to Piper and her wheaten greetins'.

This is the best yoga studio I have ever practiced at! I’m pretty particular when it comes to yoga and have practiced many different styles over the years: kundalini, bikram and ashtanga and all types of flow classes. Over the past 15 years I’ve bounced around a couple different studios and honestly can’t give up kundalini yoga but after my first class at The Yoga Lab, I immediately signed up for the monthly unlimited. I’ve taken seven classes over the past 10 days and can finally say I found a yoga studio that I can call home. Most of the yoga studios here in Chicago have great teachers, but what I like about the Lab yoga studio. The most is how dynamic each class is. For me, they offer literally the dream combination of flow, breath work, a constant challenge but not a struggle, an undercurrent of spirituality but no fluff stuff and just good vibes all around. I can’t highly recommend this studio enough!

The teachers are exceptional—knowledgeable, supportive, and inspiring. The classes are challenging yet inclusive, offering options for all levels. On top of that, the sense of community here is incredible. It’s a welcoming and uplifting space that I’m so grateful to be a part of!

Incredible Yoga studio. I consider myself fortunate to live nearby! Every teacher is incredibly knowledgeable, and my yoga practice has evolved in new and different ways by taking classes here. The owner is awesome and has created a wonderful community vibe- I am consistently walking out in a much better place than I was walking in. The workshops are incredibly valuable as well. Thank you Lab!

The Lab is hands down my favorite place to practice yoga. The space is peaceful and empowering, gorgeous and encouraging. But the instructors are what put it over the top! Chris and his team create sequences that give you exactly what you need. His class offerings cross the entire spectrum of yoga experiences and everyone can find what they like at the Lab. The studio is incredibly welcoming and encouraging, both from the instructors and students. If you are looking to expand your practice I highly recommend you look into his workshops or even explore his teacher training program. Hands down the best studio in Chicago!

The Lab Yoga Studio by instructor Wade is truly exceptional. His professionalism and dedication to teaching the art of yoga are undeniable. Wade not only possesses a deep knowledge of various yoga styles but also effectively imparts insights into the health and spiritual benefits of the practice.
The atmosphere in the studio is pleasant and conducive to relaxation, allowing for a profound focus during sessions. Wade ensures that every participant feels comfortable and appropriately accommodated based on their physical abilities. His personalized approach enables even those with physical limitations to derive benefits from yoga.
Wade adeptly tailors the intensity of sessions to the group's proficiency level, striking a balance between challenge and safety. This yoga studio under Wade's guidance is not just a place for physical exercise; it's
where we nurture mental
tranquility and spiritual harmony. I highly recommend this place to anyone seeking a deeper understanding and practice of yoga!

I'm not a frequent customer here but I have to say that Chris was very friendly and welcoming and the practice that I experienced with Jamie was one of the best I experienced in my life. She's very knowledgeable and kind, she understands how to push you and what to work on in order for you to progress, while everything is done in a gentle and natural way.

I love the Lab! I have primarily practiced at home in the past, and in the three months since joining the Lab I have seen exponential growth in my strength and flexibility—and what’s more, the regular practice has reminded me how to unwind after starting an amazing but stressful job this past year. So grateful to have found this little Chicago gem! Thank you.

Fantastic and welcoming community, great teachers, helpful workshops, and consistent class times. The owner, Chris, and his dog, Piper, are kind and caring, and I’ve never met someone I didn’t like in a class. Classes are a great mix of levels and the studio is always welcoming to new students (and there’s usually ample free street parking a block south on Hubbard). My favorite class is Mina’s on Saturday at noon for sound meditation and all levels yoga, which usually includes some inversion practice at the wall. When I first started about a year ago I could hardly do a dolphin pose and now I’m consistently able to do forearm stands. I can’t recommend the studio enough.

This academy has outstanding practitioners and teachers. Classes for beginners are also an option. There is even an Authorized level 2 Ashtanga teacher who runs some classes there.

Chris (owner) is an innovative, fun, thoughtful teacher. I really like his classes, as well as the incredible crew of teachers working here. The yoga is top notch and creative, and the beautiful murals in all the studios don’t hurt either! This space is one of the gems of Chicago yoga.

I joined The Lab two months ago, and this is by far the best yoga studio in Chicago no competition. Chris the new owner clearly cares and has spent time and effort into building the studio and creating a warm, welcoming space. The teachers challenge you to work hard. You’ll do it, and you will see your practice grow. In October your first class is $10 so come on by! You will love every moment!

I have been to dozens of yoga studios in the city, and this is my favorite by far. I just joined two months ago, and I have learned more in the last two months than in my entire last year doing yoga at other places. This studio is serious about getting you to improve in your practice. The instructors take you through new, different, and exciting poses/variations each class. It is never boring! I truly feel like I walk away from each class with a new skill. I am so happy that I found this place!!!

Through a partnership with Lululemon, I was able to attend a Yoga & Vino event here. I liked that they had a locker room of sorts so you could keep your non-yoga items out of your practice space. The class I took here was non-traditional in that we did not begin with sun salutations. After we were warmed up, the instructor walked us through a series of challenge poses. She broke down these 'intermediate-level' poses, such as side crow or titibasana, into digestible pieces so it was easier to understand what you should focus on and what you should feel while attempting. There were many assistants walking around helping with adjustments and challenging you to push yourself. It's about a half mile walk from the Morgan Green Line stop or a healthy walk from the Halsted bus which does't make it super easy to get to, but I would love to try another class here!

I started going to The Lab about 1.5 years ago upon signing up for a Groupon, 10 classes for $20. Amazing deal! I'd never done yoga before and also lived in the suburbs. From the pictures I'd seen of the studio I had fallen in love with it.
I go pretty regularly on Sunday mornings at 10 am with Soren as my instructor. I absolutely love her. The class is described as Level 1-2, but really is a Level 2. Fortunately, the class size is usually under 15 and Soren is fantastic about showing modifications and she's always good about walking around repositioning your body into correct form. I've been to many yoga studios and I can honestly say, you will not get the individual attention like you do at The Lab. And you'll walk out of class feeling like you've really worked hard and motivated to come back to another class to conquer a new pose.
For one year I traveled 30 miles to this studio and now I've moved into the Lakeview neighborhood. I could easily go to other studios near me, but I will always continue to go to The Lab and recruit my friends as well.

Fortunately level 1 yoga is equivalent to level 2!!!!! Hardest yoga workout ever! Great for people who work hard and don't have a lot of time to work out - every second is worth it; you leave exhausted. I thought yoga wasn't for me, until I went to the lab!

Unfortunately level 1 yoga here is probably equivalent to level 2 at other studios. Lots of focus on inversions, which probably isn't great for those of us who use yoga mainly as a supplement to other athletics to build flexibility and avoid injury.
