Personal training studio that focuses on training for obstacle course racing with the appropriate modalities and knowledge. We also offer clients a more conventional style of training found in most modern day gyms. For clients who prefer a group atmosphere we provide an array of different classes from beginner to advanced, and even yoga. All our trainers and instructors have proper up-to-date certifications. Our 3,300 square foot building is in the heart of downtown Lombard up against the Prairie Path. All ages and levels of fitness are welcomed.

Have been going here for 9m or so. The trainers are exceptionally experienced and very knowledgeable. They modify classes and exercises for all levels. Regulars are welcoming. They changed their class schedule recently which had made it possible to get a workout in and grab the train to work all before 7:30am.
They have tons of small little perks they don't advertise, so you'll have to become a member to find out what they are. 😉
The classes are small, which allows for the trainers to provide lots of feedback and form corrections. Price is higher, but as a boutique fitness gym, it is reasonable.

I can’t say enough good things about Rough House Fitness—it’s hands down the best fitness experience I’ve ever had. I've been attending group fitness classes at The Rough House for the past few years. I love the variety, and the instructors are great at modifying exercises for each client's unique needs. Since I've been working out for many years, I get the occasional aches, and every trainer there is great at figuring out the causes, suggesting stretches, and making sure my technique is correct. I highly recommend Rough House, I've been a member over a year and a half, the class times are accommodating to your schedule and the workouts are a challenge in a good way. The Rough House is the only place I would go to for personal training. I went to Colin for 7 or eight years through two knee replacements and 100lb weight loss. He also taught me how to get down on the floor and get back up through getting my balance and strength together. Having that skill comes in handy for a senior.

I’ve been a member of Rough House for about three years. I’m almost 60 years old and have arthritis issues but there’s ALWAYS a modification available. The things I’ve learned in terms of working out and eating healthy are invaluable. Everybody is so encouraging and I never feel intimidated. I take group classes and use their app to sign up each week. They’re so easy to schedule and I truly believe this is what helps me be accountable. Whether it’s a personal training session with Colin or a group class, I always get a fantastic workout…it’s always different and never boring. I was encouraged to start working out again after seeing my wife get up early to work out multiple times a week. (She is not a morning person by any stretch…) so, naturally I was curious as to why all the fuss in getting up so early.
As, I started going myself with no long term expectation, I found the gym to be quite cleaner than any I have experienced in the past. This is a big plus if you have visited other gyms and studios.
After a few sessions it is easy to see why our friends and neighbors enjoy attending sessions and classes. The entire staff are very friendly and accommodating for folks starting their “fitness journey” again.
In addition, it’s very convenient to use their app to schedule sessions and classes, and they are very flexible with adjusting with proper notice.
I would highly recommend you give The Rough House a try today!

I love my Rough House workouts with Colin. I travel to Chicago for work, usually for a week at a time, 8-10 times per year. I had resigned myself to staying on track for fitness and nutrition goals when I was at home then falling off during my work travel weeks. I ran across The Rough House and decided to try in hotel / at home personal training for a trip and that’s how I experienced what The Rough House trainers can do. The trainer, Colin, took assessment information prior to my trip then customized and optimized the time we had. Not only did I not miss a beat for fitness and nutrition habits during that trip, but I also was sharper and more energized then slept better during my visit. What I appreciated was the attention to detail and how well tailored the workouts were to the needs and goals I mentioned, then also, to things I didn’t know to ask for. I have a fused spine and have led a mostly sedentary life to this point and I was very apprehensive about training.
I've been working with Colin for a few months now and it's been a good experience 100% of the way. He's knowledgeable and patient and does research to make sure that what we're doing is right for me. Scheduling with him is also a breeze, as it's as easy as opening the app and choosing a day and time, no confirmation is needed.
Edit: It feels worth noting that I'm still going here 3 years later and my opinion hasn't changed. I'm in the best shape of my life. Worth every penny.

The Rough House is amazing. The trainers truly know what they're doing, the value of the classes and access to the gym is seriously unbeatable in our area. I've been doing personal training there and Eric and Colin were able to make easy switches to some of my lifts to help mitigate any pain I was feeling almost immediately. Great personal training! I have been working out with Colin for several months now and would recommend him and his gym to anyone! Every session is fun and productive. He listens to what you want and makes sure your workouts are personalized to you. If you are training for a race or fitness competition, he will make sure you’re in the best shape come race day! Colin is clearly very educated in his field. I have also worked out with Natalie and Julianne, and they are just as great!
I don’t do group training but when I arrive for my personal session I always catch the end of the group class. Everybody is always drenched in sweat with big smiles. So I can only assume the group training is great too!

This place is great! Everyone is so nice and down to earth. I've been training with Eric and he is amazing never too pushy always great conversations and great listener. The classes are fun and worth coming to and the instructors are always upbeat but not pushy. The owner is Colin always greets everyone and the facility is always clean and has a great amount of access for your work out needs. This place also focuses on wellness and has recipes weekly for people to take home and try. I feel everyone here is very well educated and enjoys their job so makes it a great and friendly environment to work in. I highly recommend it's way better and personal than a commercial gym.

WORTH EVERY PENNY! I have been doing personal training at the Rough House for the last 9 months. Started with 1x/week and loved it so much went to 2x/week. All of the trainers on staff are extremely knowledgeable and effective. They pay a lot of attention to your form and doing warm up/activation exercises to ensure the targeted muscles are being activated. I have seen the improvement in myself every month and it is so rewarding. I can perform lifts that I never thought I'd be able to do!
During COVID19 the Rough House has been very reliable. Since they are only offering personal training at this time, there are very few people in the gym at once (if there is another trainer they try to stay in separate rooms) and the gym equipment is always very clean. I feel completely safe at the Rough House.

I’ve been going to The Rough House for personal training since the beginning of 2020. I first visited and met Colin almost a year before that. Now I wish I had started sooner. I’ve lost 30 lbs and have seen better muscle gain than I’ve ever experienced before. I really enjoy the personal training sessions and look forward to starting my day with Colin (I actually meet with him 5-6 days a week now).
This is not just strength training. Colin is interested in my lifestyle and has very good suggestions for proper nutrition and other ways to increase my health. He was a big part of me quitting smoking cigarettes and some other unhealthy habits. I feel like we’ve become friends and he knows about my family and my activities outside the gym. This means his advice is very appropriate to my schedule, where I am at and what my life goals are. Colin is set up to handle clientele of any level of physical fitness. He offers trainings for triathletes or middle-aged regular Joes.
The facility itself is awesome. I like to think of it as a “boutique” gym with a distinct look and very personalized training. All the equipment is new and high quality and the selection of equipment is very large. I personally like the atmosphere a lot. A lot of thought was put into the design. Colin has an awesome speaker too, so great music! You also get access to the location whenever they are open, so it’s like having your own private gym.
I must say that the cost is very reasonable, and I am amazed at the quality of service. The monthly plan is the cheapest way to pay and I suggest you strongly consider it. The app is very good, and I do all the scheduling/rescheduling online. Colin is available from early morning until the evening and is very flexible with his schedule to work with me. He’s a very hard-working person and takes his job seriously. He’s very honest and straight forward. All around great guy really.
I highly recommend Colin as a personal trainer and the Rough House as a gym. If you’ve been putting off losing weight or regular exercise, you should consider him.
Edit: during COVID, I've done sessions remotely. I have found these just as productive as at the gym. Colin is very creative with using what is available to me, either at hotels, at my parent's farm or just in my yard. We use Zoom for this.

I love to come to the Rough house and get a great workout in! I can come and do my own thing or sign up for a group class. There is plenty of equipment that always fits my workout plan and I never feel left behind in the group classes either. The trainer is always checking for correct form.

My wife and I do partner training once a week with Colin, the owner of the gym. Colin learned our fitness goals, and has developed a program to suit both of us. Colin is a wealth of knowledge on form, physiology, diet, and exercises. His workouts challenge us both, and we've seen great results since starting. Personal training at Rough House is always the highlight of our week.
Going to Rough House for several months in a row has spoiled us. The facilities are always in great shape. The gym has every piece of equipment you could want and tons of space. 95% of the time we have the gym entirely to ourselves too.

My 15 year-old son with special needs has been doing personal training with Colin Merdian for about a year. His training has been transformative! He started with very weak core strength and posture, and now he is in great shape, has much better posture, AND his ability to play violin, piano, and sing have immensely improved! All of his public and private music teachers have noticed the difference, thanks to his physical training at The Rough House. He is also more confident at school and in P.E class. He always looks forward to his personal training sessions, and Colin puts an enormous amount of thought and effort into client relationships and their personalized needs. They are buddies. We love the atmosphere there and the wide-reaching results. Worth every penny!

I came in with terrible form from years of working out wrong. This had lead to back pain when trying to do lifts on my own. Colin was able you customize a program and get the right muscle groups working and I am stronger than I ever have been.
Colin helps with whatever your goals are and knows how to adjust his workouts to help you get to them.

Sick of waiting to use a machine or a machine is broken – The Rough House is the place for you! NEVER worry about any of that again. I’m so happy I made the choice to join the rough house gym and train with Natalie Corona. She’s very professional and passionate with her training. She focuses on making sure that I maximize myself the entire session. She challenges me to try harder at all times. I look forward to training with her each session and feel great after. I have been training with Colin for about two years now. When I started I had never lifted weights before and was very intimidated by the gym. Now I lift often and am confident with my form as well as what exercises to do and when. Colin is great at helping me plan and train for my fitness goals, and has aways been a positive, encouraging, and educational resource for my well being.
