I drive by the 413 Fit Club building every day. In June, I stopped in to find out what they do.

For a month after I joined, Alex was my personal trainer. He explained everything my workout entailed. During which he made sure that my form was correct. Alex is a great motivator who encouraged me during each session.

For the past two weeks, Samantha was the instructor for the Master’s Class. There are five ladies in the group who are delightful to be around. At 81, I am by far the oldest in the group.

In my younger years, I trained to play Rugby and run distances by pumping iron and running. This benefited specific muscle groups for strength and endurance. Usually, these workouts did not work on core body strength or flexibility. This omission is NOT overlooked by the 413 instructors.

In the short time I've been working out at 431 Fit Club, I have gained flexibility and improved my balance. At the end of each session, I am tired, but my muscles appreciate the good feeling of working hard without any side effects.

Psychologically, I leave with the feeling of accomplishment. This feeling makes me look forward to the next workout.

Life-Changing Experience at 413 Fitness!-

After spending a month in the hospital, I made the decision to make my faith and health my top priorities. That’s when I found 413 Fitness, and I can honestly say it’s been one of the best decisions of my life.

Blake and his team are absolutely phenomenal — truly passionate, encouraging, and committed to helping you become the best version of yourself. From day one, they made me feel supported, heard, and motivated. I joined six weeks ago along with two of my close buddies who were also ready to commit to a healthier lifestyle, and together we jumped in.

We set goals we honestly thought were unrealistic — mine was to lose 20 pounds in six weeks. I wasn’t sure it was even possible. But with the help of the entire 413 team, I hit that goal! The accountability, workouts, nutrition support, and overall positive environment made the impossible feel achievable.

WOW!! That’s all I can say about 413. Being someone with severe anxiety, this place has been the best place ever!! I was sick and tired of being sick of tired of feeling horrible physically and mentally and emotionally. I made the call and spoke to Blake for a good while. I talked to my husband and it was a go. I started out with 3 months of private training with Margaret. These people are so on fire!! They make sure every movement is correct unlike other gyms. I also started out with personal wellness and goals. I have moved into the group wellness, which in my words, is better than one on one because you get to learn things from other folks and get even more ideas!!

As a 30 year old, the initial price tag seemed a bit steep when comparing to places like Planet Fitness. This is NOT a planet fitness. You are walking into a community. You can get as deep into it as you like. Ever evolving workouts, saunas, wellness coaching, goal reviews, and close relationships with staff and members. In 2017 I had my second neck surgery. After my surgery I did not recover to that 70% better they said I would be, instead I came out of it with something called Cervical Dystonia that causes my neck muscles to bind up and stay that way causing severe pain. On top of that it causes severe migraines, limited range of motion and muscle spasms in between my shoulder blades and my neck on a regular basis. I go to Cleveland every 3 months and receive shots to help relieve some of that pain. For the first few years I dealt with severe depression, I couldn’t do much,
I couldn’t even put my arms over my head, my whole body was suffering. I had never had a flat stomach but looking at myself in the mirror was awful for me. Not only could I not do all the things I use to, but I hated the way I looked. If you knew me I hardly ever sit down, I’m always doing something, cleaning something, working, I couldn’t hardly do anything anymore. I worked 2 jobs most of my life and felt totally useless cause I couldn’t do that anymore and on top of that, my body repulsed me. So in February of 21 I made a plan. Although there was nothing I could do about the outcome of my surgeries, I could try and work on looking in the mirror at myself and at least feeling decent. So with a little help and a whole lot of hard work I did something about it. There’s not enough words for how wonderful Sam and Mark have been at 413 Fitness in New Albany and everyone there really. I started out with Mark and I was a little shaky but I stuck with it, then Sam took over my training and she really changed my life. Not only did they help me change my body completely around, but Sam has also been my friend and sometimes counselor through this journey. My goal was to hit 50 with some Abs and a body I can look at and be proud of. I’m not perfect and I am 50, so things don’t always go back the way you’d like, but I’m feeling better about me than I ever have and I’m very thankful for those who have helped me along the way. I found 413 Fitness through God I'm sure of it. I won a nutrition gift certificate through an online auction that supports Forget Me Not Ministries. Last month I decided to contact 413 to use that gift certificate. I was welcomed and decided to purchase the fitness foundation as well. It has been the best experience ever. Margaret works with you on your nutrition and gives you attainable goals that build on each other. It's very helpful to getting you to make healthier choices when eating. Blake is awesome at giving you a workout and pushing you to do 1% better. If you hate your legs that's good because I'm pretty sure when he's done with you you'll be able to leg press a Buick. I haven't tried it yet, but I'll let you know how it goes. All in all everyone there is great! They are warm, welcoming, and completely all about helping you to achieve your Big Hairy Audacious Goals and pushing you just a little bit harder. It's a family, and I am thankful to have been able to find them.

I started here a few years ago to get back into working out regularly after having kids and since Covid I have started semi-private sessions which made me feel safe seeing all of the precautions they take to keep the gym clean and safe. It has been an amazing experience and changed my health 100%! I love the semi-private and group classes. Every workout is carefully planned by the trainers and they work with every participant to motivate them and help us have great form with each exercise. Now that I’m there regularly, I love the community we have built. There’s diversity in age and ability but we all cheer each other on toward our goals. I highly recommend this gym!

413 fitness is an amazing gym to get stronger! The trainers are highly skilled and customize each workout to who is in attendance- making accommodations when needed. It has a great “small group” feel and you really get to know who you are working out with.

Each quarter the trainers assess where you are and you get to see the progress you are making. All fitness levels are welcome - no one is shamed or made to feel like they can’t do things - we all push each other.

They take workouts outside of the gym as well, and do trail runs and other events. I highly recommend them! It is money well spent.

I recently started going to 413 Fitness and have had a very positive experience. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and professional. I have only been going here for about 6 weeks but already see some benefits in increased energy level, elevated mood and I have dropped a few pounds. I was pleased with the Foundations workouts which are required to complete before transitioning you to the group classes and semi-private sessions. Sam was my trainer for Foundations and she was great! She made me feel comfortable and took her time explaining the work outs and taught me how to do each exercise correctly and safely. The semi-private sessions are challenging and fun - all the trainers are easy to be with - they are patient and explain all activities and take the time to make sure you are doing it correctly and safely. I am a 50 year old woman who has been busy “taking care of everything else” and put my personal fitness on the bottom of the list. I knew I needed a change and accountability in an environment that was safe and comfortable and I definitely found that at 413 Fitness. I highly recommend this gym to anyone who wants to start a new work out program or to anyone who would like to continue exercising in a very positive and welcoming environment. As a side note also - they gym is very clean with several changing rooms and clean bathrooms. The gym is owned by a Christian, married couple who seems truly committed to helping others lead a fuller and healthier life.

Over a year and a half ago I reluctantly met with Margaret. I had never been to a gym or been a particularly fit or active person. She made me feel at ease from the beginning. I began going to 413 Fitness on the recommendation of a family member who had been going for a while and was having amazing results. Here are some of the reasons why I think it’s the best investment I’ve made in myself in years:

1. The owners, Blake and Margaret, have created an atmosphere at 413 that feels like family. It doesn’t matter whether you’re just beginning your fitness journey (like me) or you’re already in great shape, everyone is treated with respect and as equals. One mantra at 413 is to get 1% better with each workout, and the staff and “members” are always willing to offer encouragement and celebrate small successes. I’ve felt nothing but support from day one. (I put “members” in quotes because you aren’t tied in to any kind of long-term commitment. If 413 doesn’t meet your needs, you are free to go. If you’re like me and many others, you can’t imagine ever leaving. But there aren’t memberships, per se.)

2. Your first workout is called a “Success Session.” Blake was the trainer for my success session. He asked me a lot of questions about my goals, history of injuries, and past experience with exercise, nutrition, etc. And he actually listened to my answers to those questions! By the end of the session, I knew I was in good hands. Unlike my experience at other gyms, I felt like Blake was designing a custom plan for me.

3. I trust the trainers’ expertise when it comes to coaching proper technique, paying enough attention to (gently) correct me when my technique isn’t quite right and let me know when I’m doing great, and modifying exercises as necessary to ensure that I don’t get hurt. This is important to me because I’ve dealt in the past with some minor back and shoulder issues. I’ve had no problems since I started working out at 413.

4. Workouts at 413 are interesting because Blake and Margaret are always mixing things up and teaching new exercises. To date, every workout I’ve had has been different. Just tonight I got to try three or four exercises that I’d never done before. I never feel bored.

5. 413 gives back to the community. Throughout the year, there are several events that benefit local non-profit organizations and young people in our community.

I’m grateful to have found 413 Fitness. Blake and Margaret have built something for New Albany to be proud of. I wholeheartedly recommend 413 to anyone looking to feel healthier and happier and to test their limits in a safe, positive, and fun environment.
