I’ve been coming here for a couple years now and this has become my happy place. I have reached several of my fitness goals but still need help to achieve some others and now with the gym being under new ownership Personal Trainer Liam is really helping me step it up. Approximately two months ago, I personally visited the club to cancel my membership and return my FOB, as I had moved out of the area.
Despite this, I have been charged for two additional months. I have attempted to contact the club's office three times by phone, but I have not received an answer or a return call. I also sent a message via Facebook Messenger and contacted corporate. Corporate informed me that they do not handle cancellations for this club and directed me to contact the club directly.
After calling the phone number on the door, I was able to reach Patric, who then emailed me stating my membership was canceled on the day I called corporate ( 2 days ago).
They can see when I turned in my FOB and signed the cancellation form. However, they are unwilling to refund the four charges to my checking account for a gym membership I had no access to.
Given the new management/owner, I would not recommend this location due to the significant difficulty in basic communication and resolving such issues.

Hi! I joined the Anytime Fitness on Morthland earlier this summer, and it was exemplary! I got my son to join and recommend it to everyone I've talked to about gyms. Recently, the ownership has changed, and they have implemented some changes. I called to discuss 2 issues with the new manager. One problem I misunderstood and acknowledged my error. On the other issue, this individual became incredibly defensive and went on a lengthy explanation. When I tried to interject that what she was talking about was not my issue, she essentially interrupted me and said, "I am trying to answer you." Later, she referred to the issue as a "debacle" and implied that others were also unhappy with it. I had been saying up to this point that I was just calling to express my opinion. When it came to light that others had the same issue, and she followed up with "it's not going to change", I stated that it appeared then that she did not care about her customers. She denied that and then said, "You have 5500 other Anytime Fitness to choose from." She is right, and I am considering that, given how rude she was. I drive twice as far to go to this Anytime Fitness as I would for other gyms in the area because it was amazing - the best gym I have ever belonged to. Not sure what I will do. I was already considering switching and saving on drive time, as what previously made this gym exceptional no longer exists. Although it wasn't a major issue, after this interaction, I'm unsure what I want to support this facility with my membership dues. Maybe I am just cranky, but I'm extremely disappointed. Loved this place.

This gym underwent new owners and management last month. They decided to get rid of John, the best manager this gym ever had, and coming from someone that’s been a member since 2014, that speaks volumes. Not only did they fire John on a whim, but they never even took the time to first take a step back and see what John did that made this gym so successful. They bulldozed in and changed things in nonsensical, ineffective ways.

I gave some leeway at first because a transition can take some time. But it’s been over a month and I’ve seen no improvement whatsoever. The obvious big change is the towels and cleaning rags. Management was so quick to cut costs that they eliminated all the cleaning rags that were conveniently placed at each station along with towels for showering. And to make it worse, they insulted our intelligence by having their sign state that it was for our “health and safety”….what? Am I Will Byers who just got transported into the Upside Down because that makes zero sense. Let’s get rid of your cleaning rags for your…health and safety…mind boggling. What was the already perfectly effective system that we had in place replaced with, you ask? Some paper towels and hand wipes that you have to travel to the far corners of the earth to even get. But don’t bother going to the one on the north wall—it’s installed incorrectly and the wipes are all dried out. But don’t worry, it’s for our “health and safety”, everyone.

As for management, it’s virtually non-existent. I’ve seen a lady in the office I think twice since they switched hands, and I’m here at least a few times a week. I admit I have a set schedule and my hours simply may not align with theirs, but I’ve asked other people during the day if they’ve seen anyone and the answer is always no. And the times I did actually see someone, they never left the office. No presence at all. John would always greet you and would make simple rounds around the gym just to tidy up and make sure everything is running how it should be. That presence helped make sure everyone was doing their part to keep the gym clean.

I hope you like working in complete humidity because the dehumidifier has been full for weeks now. I’m honestly not sure if management even KNOWS we have a dehumidifier. I suppose if they were actually there and stepped out of the office once in a while they may discover that it needs changing.

If management is stretched too thin as I’ve heard the one worker is needing to jump around offices, then, oh,I don’t know, maybe not fire the one person that kept this place running like a well-oiled machine?

And with how quick management was to cut existing management and critical expenses like our cleaning rags, you can be certain that those types of people are also going to raise the menbership fee. These patterns go hand-in-hand. So essentially we’ll be paying more for less. Great deal.

I’m normally not this vocal, and, as my account shows, I’ve only made one other review (which ironically is for this place which I had to edit since I already wrote a great review a few years back), but the drastic drop in quality and sheer utter lack of regard at attempting to achieve the high standard that John worked so hard at maintaining is a complete shame and disgrace.

I’ve been a member at this Anytime Fitness location for about 5 years now and this gym is currently in the best condition I’ve seen since I’ve started. Although I’ve always been satisfied with this gym, the current manager, John, has substantially raised the bar in regards to this gym’s cleanliness, professionalism, and general upkeep/maintenance of equipment. It is for these reasons, coupled with John’s dedication and determination to mange an exceptional gym, why I’ve never considered working out anywhere else.

Was the cleanest place. Now there is no on site mgr. Thermostat says battery needs replaced and it is 74 degrees and 90% humidity. Also there are no more towels for wiping machines just brown paper towels and everything is greasy and slimy.

It appears that has been a management change. The club was always spotless and John always made an effort to great you with a fist bump.
The purple face towels have been removed the stations have cleaning spray bottles but no only 1/3 had towels. The towels that were at the stations were soggy and disgusting. I have not encountered a staff member on site in over a month. I understand the decision to no longer furnish towels in the shower rooms but the removal of personal and cleaning towels which have been replaced by moist wipes that are the size of a post card seems like not the best choice to maintain the facility as it was in the past. There are many workout facilities in the area and I am going to explore my options.

This gym was top notch... seems like things are changing. There were face towels and shower towels provided for all members and those suddenly went away. There are also cleaning wipes places in a couple places around the perimeter of the gym. The cleaning system was a spray bottle and towel was placed± on every station, and this new system is going to be terrible because things won't get cleaned like they should. Also, cleaning wipes were installed upsside and are dried out. Also, the studio work out area was being discussed of getting taken away, which no one is happy about because many people use for personal working out and classes. No members are happy with these terrible changes. Also, price increase in the near future was mentioned. So now we're going to pay more to get less in the gym.
I can't say anything about the management as I have only seen a manager once in over a month, and there was no interaction. Also, the lack of management present has allowed disrespectful gym members to treat our amazing cleaning lady Jeannie terrible when she does nothing but an amazing job and cleaning, keeping members following gym rules and always greets members. Jeannie is a big reason the gym remains as good as it is!
Overall, no one is happy with these current and possible future changes.

Was rudely kicked out of this gym yesterday via the manager John. Was quite embarrassing as I had a guest with me. He wrongly said I couldn’t work out there since I’m a PPV user. However as long as that’s not mg home gym I should be able to train there. Contacted corporate. They agreed I was right. Highly disappointed. THE WORKER WAS ON THE PHONE WITH JOHN! I came here yesterday and there was a man outside who said first, are you member otherwise your car will be towed. I told him I was a member. Then he asked me where I go I said I usually go to calumet but I came here to use the massage since there’s was broke. I went to use my key and he said you can’t go in here, how do you pay? I love Anytime Fitness. My home gym location is the best. The manager, John, runs a tight ship & does a fantastic job of keeping the gym clean, immaculate actually. He is easily accessible and very approachable if you have any questions. All the members I've encountered are polite & serious about working out which is refreshing as I've been to many facilities where members use gym time as social hour. I would recommend Anytime to anyone not fully satisfied with their current gym & looking to make a switch but even if you are just starting on your fitness journey, Anytime has resources available (ie personal training, etc) to help get you on the right path. Fantastic gym and staff. I really appreciated John making accommodations for my daughter who is home from school for the summer. She is on Purdue’s Golduster Dance Team and needed to stay fit for the upcoming season.

I like the ability to go to other Anytime facilities as well. My son who lives in Minneapolis joined Anytime up there but is able to use our gym when he comes home for the holidays.

The manager John ambushes you at the door to explain the rules and cleaning procedures.....then stalks you constantly to make sure you follow the procedures exactly. I am 40 year old man and have been going the various gyms for 15 years. I don't need a 5 min lecture on how to wipe down equipment.
This isn't about gym safety and cleanliness....this about this guy's little power trip of micro-management and exerting the little authority he has in the name of gym cleanliness.
It's bizarre. I have never in all years of going to the gym....been followed around by a staff member....let alone...mansplained how to wipe down a machine.
A quick "welcome to the gym.... please wipe down the machines....we keep a clean gym here" would have been more than enough. The ambushing at the door, the lecture....and the stalking around watching me workout to make sure I am following the "cleaning procedures " is absolutely insane. You can tell this guy is off. Visit the gym and you'll see.
Better yet....read some of the other reviews. This is an often repeated complaint. This Anytime fitness is losing business because of John. I would never set foot in there again.

Been a member for a short period of time, easy to say this is the best gym I’ve worked out at so far. Never been to a gym that felt like a community of very welcoming staff and wonderful people. John does a fantastic job as a manager, talks to everyone of his customers, has a great energy. You can tell John loves what he does and cares about everyone apart of this little community, which in turn makes me want to be better everyday. Club is super clean and organized. I came from planet fitness and it’s a much better environment here, everyone is so friendly and there is absolutely no judgement. I feel very safe working out here compared to other places. People are always willing to lend a hand to help you with literally anything you need. I’ve been going to this Anytime Fitness for a little over a year and a half now, and it has been the ideal gym during my entire time there. The gym is very clean, and everyone understands to wipe down machines and put back attachments. The fact that things are where they should be makes the whole experience so much smoother. I work far with a long commute, so my free time is limited. In my opinion, time not spent looking for attachments or weights is also time I can save for the rest of the things I want to do in life like philosophizing if I should drink water or a Coors light to hydrate.

The culture and community at this gym is also fantastic. There is a large age range of people here who are all very friendly. I never felt looked down on or judged, especially when I was first starting off. I genuinely look forward to seeing some of these friendly faces when I come to this location, and you’d be hard pressed to find as warm of a community elsewhere.

Many of these positives come from the gym manager John, who I also get personal training from. He makes sure rules are followed and a positive culture if formed. As a personal trainer, he’s also been great. He is both patient and willing to push you further. Since training with him, I went from barely being able to lift a 20 lbs dumbbell to now being able to lift 2 (or 1 dumbbell in each hand for anyone mathematically challenged like myself).

This gym is a perfect 5/7. Because Google only has a 5 star scale, I’d give this gym a slightly worse 5/5 stars.

It’s apparent to me the bathrooms are always freshly cleaned and stocked each day which I feel doesn’t happen often at other locations!

Worst experience at an anytime fitness I've ever had. Really didn't appreciate being watched like a hawk the whole time as well as being bombarded at the door about the rules of the gym. Being interrupted during my set because I didn't remove an attachment from the cable machine... It just felt really uncomfortable. Will be contacting anytime fitness corporate office about this place because I've been all over the states at multiple locations and have never felt like I was doing anything wrong for just being there... Like if I were to sneeze wrong I'd get fined

It’s been a couple years since I last left a review for the gym. Within the last year we’ve gotten more new equipment and different equipment. I’ve now been a member here for over 10 years. When I thought the place couldn’t get any better it always does. It’s always spotless, fresh, and full of clean towels. The selection of equipment is great for a club of this size. The real quality is the manager. John and his staff do a wonderful job keeping the place clean, organized, and safe. For my money it really is the best club in town.

I've been a member of at least half a dozen gyms, including some of the fancy/big ones in LA, but this gym was by far my favorite. While it's smaller than some other gyms, it has everything you need, and for the most part there's never an issue with a machine being open. If somebody is on it, the community is very approachable and friendly, and happy to share. Community is really what this gym is about, and John does a fantastic job making sure it stays that way. He's a phenomenal manager and has created a tight-knit group. The place is immaculate. Everybody respects the rules, and when people forget time to time, they're given a gentle reminder. Only reason I left was because I moved. 5/5 stars, and 10/10 would join again.

Only anytime in NWI that has a bottle spray/towel at every station, yet has mold growing on their shower heads. Some trainers don’t understand how to use equipment certain ways will also tell you your method is wrong. Pass on this Anytime, try the other Valpairaso location.

Might want to recheck bathroom/shower #1 last time I took a shower in there both the main shower head and auxiliary one were full of mold. Wish I had taken a picture of it now.

I am also fully aware of TRX bands and how they work, but the workout i was attempting to finish before I was interrupted required a result only obtainable on the rope. I also secured the rope to an iron bar fixture on the wall which is more than capable of holding my weight as well as safe; I was in my own space bothering no one but you it seems. Clearly, from past posts others seemed to have similar issues with you.

Can’t name a better gym in Valpo than this. John has created an amazing community. He gets to know all of his members personally and makes each person feel like they are accommodated for. Being a girl, it’s hard to find a gym that makes you feel safe. This is the first gym I’ve been to in years where I feel completely safe and comfortable. The facility is always clean. The equipment is everything you could ask for. I have yet to have one bad experience at John’s gym and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a new gym community.

Was a member here for roughly 11 years. It's the nicest one I've been to, staff has been super courteous and friendly throughout the years from Brittany to now Jon, I really felt like I was a "member". They also seemed to have the newest and nicest equipment compared to a few I've been too. Also they always kept it super clean. Sad to cancel but I changed Jobs away from the club. I've been to several gyms over the years, and the past two years at this gym have been the best gym experience that I've ever had. John, the manager, is very friendly and creates an excellent gym environment that sets an atmosphere that is comfortable for all members. John makes an effort to get to know gym members and will greet you every time he sees you. John informs all members and visitors of the simple cleaning rules upon their first entry and the result is that this gym is very clean, and John works throughout the day to keep the gym organized so that every piece of equipment is ready for the next member to use. The other club members are friendly and respectful. This is the first gym I've been to where I haven't had a problem with other members crowding around popular pieces of equipment to talk for an hour, ignoring that other people are trying to use it. The club offers group classes that provide a good workout and good company. This gym makes it easy to stick with an exercise routine and provides a bright spot in your day.

I have been to a couple of gyms in the Valparaiso area, and I am happy I settled on this Anytime Fitness location. The gym is always clean with equipment in working order. I have been a member at Anytime Valparaiso for about six months. I have nothing but great things to say about this gym. It has a large array of equipment to choose from. All newer. All in great shape. There is a large selection of free weights, machines and cardio equipment.

John the manager is very helpful and friendly. He is a stickler for keeping the equipment clean which is a great thing! The equipment is always very clean and well organized. The members are friendly and there is just a good vibe overall. It’s never too crowded which is a plus too!

I know you guys read my original rant and never responded to my complaints. Was it because you were aware of how obnoxious and unnecessary your behavior was when I was having an issue with my key (A problem caused by Anytime, not me)? Also, my calls were never returned when I left multiple messages. This gym is small, has way less equipment then any other gym in the area, and they have a 0 tolerance policy to even hear Anytime Fitness’s own company mistakes and didn’t even want to hear me out. They threatened to call security on me when all I wanted was to talk to the manager who wasn’t there (surprise!). I wasn’t causing a scene or doing anything at the time other than working out. They also don’t return their calls if they don’t feel like it. I wouldn’t recommend this gym to my worst enemy.

I live in Florida and when I come to town I pay either for the week or the month. 3 years ago I bought a key fab and activated it per week or month.
This trip has completely changed and I assume new management.
I stop in during staff hours and the door is locked as I see someone in the office. I gave them sometime to call nobody answered and I left a voice mail. They returned the call hours later. On top of all this they want to charge me $100 a week 😂😂😂ya when I paid 30 a week just last year

I want to start by saying that this is a very nice gym. It’s a little small, but adequate. With that said,

I have never been approached the way that I was when I walked in this gym. I’m a member of three different gym franchises and travel around the country and no one has ever read me the riot act the way the manager of this gym did when I walked in the door. It wasn’t as much of what he said as it was the arrogance of which he said it. I didn’t know if I could use the equipment or not. I almost left, but wanted to get a workout in. One thing is for sure, I will never go back to this gym again. I am all for wiping down the equipment and re-racking weights, but this person needs training on how to use a positive approach and influence people. I’m sure the gym is losing memberships because of this.

The "manager" (a total knob) basically accosted me on entry to the club. Spouting off all the club rules on an excessive power trip, to a guy who hasn't even put his gym bag down. Brother in law and good close friend had a nearly identical experience. Creepy thing about it is I'll never go back. I’ve only came to this gym one time because it’s small and doesn’t have half the stuff that I need, and the second time I was caught by surprise because my key phab didn’t work when I wanted to go in. Someone lets me in and the manager makes me stand by the door like a little kid after I told him my phab didn’t work.
He then said that I was locked out because I didn’t wipe stuff down the other time I came which be aware I was there late at night which means he had to stalk me on camera and watch me work out- VERY CREEPY.
Also my workout was interrupted by the manager being concerned about what I was doing because he didn’t want me slamming weights on the floor that are meant to be slammed.
The manager also walks around the gym in a very creepy manner watching everyone workout making sure their WIPING DOWN the equipment.

I have been to a lot of different Anytime Fitnesses throughout the country, and I have to say by far this is one of the best. When I first walked in I was greeted by John the manager. At first it took me by surprise, because I have never been approached by staff or management before in other gyms. John was really nice and professional as he took the time to introduce himself. This Anytime Fitness location is hands down the best in all of the northwest Indiana area, and without a doubt the best health and fitness center in all of Valparasio. I am always on the move so I've have been to every AF from east of Goshen to the west of Hammond and can honestly say that if you are looking to improve your physical health/appearance you will not only achieve that but your gonna feel your overall wellness rise after every visit. So I've known John, the manager, from a previous gym and that was the reason I signed up at this location. The gym is clean, the gym is organized, and the equipment is well taken care of.

The reason for this cleanliness, this organization, this upkeep is because John has a zero tolerance policy, which sounds much more draconian then it actually is. All he asks is that people put stuff back where they find it and wipe the equipment down after they use it, which quite frankly is basic gym etiquette. John is super easy going, very friendly and respectful and works ridiculously hard to keep this gym the best version of itself.

I've been a member of a different franchise that was the exact opposite, where nobody gave a f--- about anything, and the difference between the two is clear and once again why I come here. I mean, we have to pay to play anyway and at least here we're paying for quality through a manager that takes pride in what he does.

First of all high quality gym, up to date equipment not to mention a large variety of free weights and machines. Kettlebells, resistance bands (that aren’t broken, frayed, and actually have resistance still) new dumbbells are rolling in, bumper plates, and numerous bars and benches. The first thing I do want to mention is that the gym is clean and organized. The people coming and going are very friendly. Being there after office hours you’ll be able to get a peaceful workout.

Now, going in during office hours there are going to be a lot of issues you’ll run into. Either being interrupted multiple times a session, during a set, by the manager. Having your weights being re-racked for you in the middle of a set, by the manager. Having your fiancé being told, the manager, doesn’t like that he helped you clean up your spilled drink. Then hearing how the manager of the gym complained about your facial expressions. Not only have I but multiple people have issues with the Manager John at this location. As someone who has been a member for many years, this is the first time I have had to deal with a level of harassment. If issues arise don’t worry, because the manager John will come to you. Not only accuse you of many things but never help or be a voice of reason.

I would never recommend for anyone to go to this gym but to avoid it at all costs.

During my workout on the stair climber my air-pod accidentally fell into the machine. John, the manager of Anytime Fitness was so kind to take apart the stair stepper. The Valpo Anytime Fitness faculty should be used as a model faculty, they are by far one of the nicest around. They really make an effort to keep it very clean. I moved to Indianapolis in March and took a tour of the few Anytime Fitness faculties in Indy. Wow do they need some work, not clean, need better lighting. Just not up to par with the Valpo US30 facility. So maybe some of the Indy facilities (management) can go visit the Anytime Fitness on US30.
