I was really excited going on the tour of this facility and enjoyed it up until discovering the locker room situation.. I can’t imagine the amount of potential members that were lost due to this poor design. I understand that you guys have put procedures into place, for example, signage.. but a sign on the wall isn’t going to stop a predator from acting on their impulses. As a woman, I would not feel comfortable being in there nor would I ever allow my child to go to a facility with coed locker rooms. VERY strange design..

Susan, thanks again for welcoming me. You are such a wonderful person, and I can tell you have an overall beautiful spirit. No one has ever given me a tour or experience like that, and I've been to all types of clubs, being able to go to clubs all around the world; this one is by far my favorite. Thank you again so much. I will definitely be back. Such a beautiful, clean, nice club. Loved my whole experience.

Cade was quick and friendly, welcoming me into the Y. When I arrived, Susan signed me up and gave me a tour, showing me where things were at and what to expect. It's a really nice facility but the staff was the most impressive. Thank you Susan and Cade!

Great, clean facility with everything you need and more. Plenty of cardio equipment, I’ve never had to wait for something to open up. Staff is friendly and helpful. The family-oriented locker room is sizeable and provides plenty of privacy in the number of private restroom/shower rooms.

Consider having more than one person working while there’s 8 people in line waiting to potentially join. Pass.

Living in a different city, but visiting here often and needing a place to workout and shower after, this is a great facility! We also use it after we ride bikes or run on Monon. It’s a perfect location!

Was trying to workout and whoever was cleaning the machines had something to say to my buddy and then keep speaking like he can tell people how to work out I rather visit LA Fitness then to be there.

The workout facilities are wonderful, the people are wonderful, the locker room however is creepy and disturbing. I walked past the door several times looking for the sign to tell me whether it was the men’s or women’s locker room, then realized it was a shared locker room. Okay, not too thrilled but I went in to check it out. Now if they had actually made the doors to the showers and bathrooms solid from top to bottom maybe I wouldn’t have been so creeped out, but they’re not. A small child or adult could easily stick their head or whole body under the doors into either, or even just stick a phone to record or take pictures. So if I’m taking a shower, now I have to worry if I’m going to walk out to someone in the changing area of the locked shower room to find someone standing there or a head, or a camera/phone.
Not cool, very uncomfortable, very creepy…

So I got the response stating there are rooms in the locker room that have floor to ceiling doors… well I didn’t find them because I really tried to avoid going through the whole locker room in the off chance that I’d round a corner and see somebody naked that nobody wants to see naked using the locker room as… a locker room. I guess my question is, is public changing acceptable in the locker room… cause I wouldn’t want myself or my kids seeing that…

Facilities are new, nice, lots of class options with wonderful instructors. My one suggestion would be more times for classes; most of my favorite classes are scheduled for either extremely early or evening, neither of which work well for me. There is a large population of stay at home parents in Westfield who would probably appreciate more daytime classes.

As with every review, I need to address the locker rooms. There is a common/open area with lockers, then several individual rooms with showers, toilets, and sinks in each. These are not stalls, they are full bathrooms with lots of space and a full door that closes and locks. It offers so much more privacy than any other gym I’ve been to. Perhaps YMCA would have done better to recognize that their clientele in this area would want gendered locker rooms, but I really do not see an issue with the way it is set up.

There are stalls with toilets near the locker area. They also offer more privacy than any other American stalls I’ve seen, but if you are concerned for privacy, you could simply choose to use an individual room. I have never seen all of those rooms full at once. I appreciate what folks are trying to do with advocating for women, but any woman I have talked to regarding this has been fine with the set up. It bums me out to see a beautiful, brand new YMCA with a 3.5 star rating because of a locker room setup. Most folks live close enough to just shower at home anyway.

Congested pool availibility, pool locker rooms are sometimes available, no check in or staff at the Natatorium door. Custodial staff had phone out in all age/gendered bathroom (reported to staff), and no sauna (bummed it said they would have one then did not). Many struggle with returning their lifting equipment back when they are done. Just want one spot /person who can always walk up to check in with, without waiting behind a line of people wanting to be members or having to ask to squeeze past people to scan. Good equipment though. Added hours cause they are a pain to find unless you are on desktop website, enabled it on my phone.

Facilities are brand new, and top notch and everything is clean, as should be expected considering how old everything is. This would otherwise be a five star review, however, a couple of things to mention.

I don’t understand designing a track to only go around the courts. It’s the shortest track I’ve ever seen, and walking on something that short, you may as well just get on a treadmill, which I do not enjoy.

The design of the change room being universal was really shortsighted. There is a certain irony this building was sponsored by Ascension, a hospital organization associated with the Catholic religion. And they okayed putting their name on this? Did they know what they were putting their name on? Whoever designed this and pushed through HAD to know it would not be a popular design. I personally did not mind dressing, showering, and changing, BUT I’m a man. Can only imagine how women and parents with young kids would feel. Why didn’t you have a changing room for those who would prefer same sex changing area? People don’t like being forced into this situation and would have liked options.

Either administration was myopic, or just didn’t care what the masses would think and pushed its agenda regardless. Either way, it’s disturbing to have the ones in charge making those types of decisions.

Staff is amazing and the facilities are great. Plenty of classes, open times for basketball and pickleball, and there’s personal trainers. The staff take good care of the equipment and keep the facilities very clean. The pool is also huge and very nice for swimming laps.

Beautiful place. I don’t understand the people whining about coed locker rooms. The changing areas are their own private rooms, no one’s getting dressed in the common areas. People are such crybabies.

My family has been members for almost 2 months now. I am extremely pleased with this facility. The fitness area is clean and I always see the PT staff walking around cleaning up equipment and putting away weights. I have recently tried small group training and Kasey is phenomenal is always giving us a great workout, correcting form, as well as motivating us through the entire session. While there was some struggles in the child care area at first they have worked through them. They are to be expected when opening a new facility. Teresa runs a tight ship but my babies are safe and happy and thats what is important to me. And lastly, Zac the director of the facility is doing an amazing job. I had some concerns as the beginning and he listened and addressed them immediately. He is constantly wearing multiple hats ensure the members are being taken care of. My son is sad Mr. Zac isn’t in the childcare area anymore. I have been throughly impressed with the Y and would be happy to refer my friends to join!

What you're doing here is wrong. Our wives and daughters should never be in a position to come across men in a locker room. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. No amount of rules, procedures, or signage makes this okay. Inexcusable.

You are putting men in a terrible position as well.

Very nice facility and the people that work there are all friendly! Locker rooms are set up like public bathrooms in Europe, and are extremely clean! (I'm not really sure why everyone is hating on the unisex locker rooms because it has WAY more privacy than gendered locker rooms honestly) Thank you for such a nice place to go to workout!

Extremely nice facilities - the gym, weight room, walking track, and pool are very nice. Spouse and I have never had an issue with the locker room, it's clean and has plenty of private areas for whatever you may need to do to get ready for your workout. The staff are very accommodating as well if you need anything.

Amazing fitness classes! I asked an instructor about a modification for a certain exercise that I struggled with postpartum. The next class, she came with a whole series that targeted exactly my concern!

The locker rooms are just a larger scale version of the family locker room at the Monon Center. Ideal for families! The way the changing/shower rooms are actually offer significantly more privacy and security than a traditional locker room.

Overall pretty disappointed with this ymca. I don’t understand how anyone thought a co ed locker room would be a good idea. No sauna. The free weight area is pretty small and so is the indoor track. It gets way too congested.

The co-ed bathrooms are ridiculous. Every other ymca I’ve been to has a men and women’s. The original designs of this facility were amazing. Therapy pool, separate locker rooms, ect. Someone decided to call it quits on the fundraising and put this disaster in. The pool is FREEZING because it only is meant for the high school swimmers. This isn’t a “community” facility at all.

I like everything. But the coed bathrooms need to change ASAP. Stupid idea.
EDIT: Look, I’m not mad at anybody over this. But since they replied to me, I’m going to edit mine to expound. I don’t care that you put signs up. No one who has bad intentions care about your signs. There are countless cases of cameras getting planted to spy on people from weirdos. And since the reply was frankly just making up excuses for their clear failure to understand the community. The majority of people I’ve talked to are absolutely appalled by this. Why it was even CONSIDERED is beyond me. The truth is I’m going to continue to use the facility because we have a work benefit that pays for the membership, otherwise, I would never give my money to them. I will not be stepping foot in that locker room and neither will anyone in my family. Why? Cause unlike whoever designed this facility, I care about protecting my family.

I'm very disappointed with the misleading swim schedule and the staff telling me closers are listed online when they are not. I joined this club solely for the pool as I'm an avid swimmer. Both times I went this week the pool was either closed or there was only one lane open. The open lane was also not marked in anyway to tell you what was ok to use for open lap swimming. To a large degree I feel this pool shouldn't even been opened to the public with the amount of children using the pool. The club needs to re-evaluate its plan for how it provides open swimming to its members. The club is not worth the money if you cant utilize the pool as the new gym is lackluster and worse some apartment gyms I've seen...

We r so excited to go here however I have to agree a co-ed bathroom is very very disappointing. Women and children should be protected by a separate space. 😅

How can a place claim to have church services and a coed bathroom. By trying to cater to everyone they satisfy nobody. If tax dollars were spent on this then shame on you all

The co-Ed locker room situation is very, very odd, and also extremely inconvenient to lug your things in and out of different stalls and lockers multiple times. The facility itself is nice (as it should be for being brand new), but the fitness area is definitely basic. The childcare rooms are very nice and thus why I will keep my membership…. But the locker room situation has to change.

The gym and facility are great. But it’s COED LOCKER ROOMS. Like seriously?? You expect me to let my wife and daughter use the bathroom or change their clothes or shower with men just walking all around them??

This is just an absolute disaster waiting to happen.

Whoever’s idea this was needs to be fired.
