I'm a 65 year old who never had lessons. I have been playing a slice since I started at 26. 39 years of slicing the ball. I would save the money on golf clubs and go see Matt. He has me hitting a draw now !!!

Matt is an awesome Golf Instructor and person in general. I’ve had lessons with multiple instructors in the past who had my mind so jumbled with a million swing thoughts and techniques that were not easy to repeat consistently. I would stand “Paralyzed” over the ball, unable to start my backswing. I would spend hours on the range and would hit ok but on the course was a nightmare and I didn’t even want to actually play a round of golf because I didn’t want to embarrass myself. I went to Matt extremely frustrated after having spent $100’s and somehow was playing worse since I had stopped taking lessons. Matt was able to build upon the things I did well in my swing and simplify everything into a couple check points and get me out of my own head. Matt isn’t intimidating to swing in front of or judgmental and has multiple tools to help you. As long as you come into a lesson with an open mind and actually practice what you work on outside of your lessons there is no reason you shouldn’t see some improvement. Matt has made my golf swing/game much more simple and repeatable, which has improved everything about my game on the actual course and made me truly enjoy golf again.

Matt Harrell has completely changed my game for the better. He explains things simply but thoroughly. I came in shooting in the mid-high 80s with the occasional 82. Now breaking 75 on a good day and rarely shoot over 82. If you need someone that helps to make the game easier, find Matt.

Matt has been a great help to getting my game to shooting in the 70s consistently. Just had my best round to date of a 74 and it is with the lessons that I have taken with Matt, specifically the short game of 80 yds. and in that got me to this point. Matt is very helpful and explains things very well and in a way in which you understand, tailoring his lessons to each individual. He also doesn't watch his watch while he is teaching. I have had lessons prior where their convictions will not allow them to go a minute over time but Matt will stick around a little longer when he can. I will be taking more lessons with Matt and recommend you do too!

I'm a 55 year old who has been a mid teens handicap golfer my whole life. Earlier this year, my game completely fell apart. On a recommendation from a friend, I took a lesson with Matt. 5 minutes into the lesson, I knew Matt was going to help. He simplified the game like no one else ever has for me. He talked in terms that made sense rather than hyper technical terminology that I've heard from other instructors in the past. After a lesson, I was slightly better than where I had been years before. After a couple of lessons, I shot the best score I've posted in many years. By the end of this season, I'll post my best round ever. Most importantly, though, what Matt did was make the game fun for me, again. I couldn't recommend an instructor more highly than I do Matt. He's the best.

I've taken lessons from Matt Harrell since last Spring, and have had fantastic results. I went from shooting 103, to a low of 76 in one season.

I've taken the occasional golf lesson, but have never taken more than one or two lessons. My experience was that the pros tried to fix the symptom, not the root problem.

My history has been one day I would shoot 90, the next day I would shoot 103. Very inconsistent, and I had no idea why. I told Matt I would like to break 80 once, and he said that he thought we could get there.

His teaching method was great. Harvey Penick-like. Watched my swing a lot, and commented with changes that mattered. Not too much talking, or "over" teaching.

The last round before my lessons with Matt was a 103. After regular lessons and a lot of work on the range I shot a 76 and shot in the 70's 5 times! I have a much better understanding of my swing, and am not "chunking" or "topping" like I was before.

I'm still taking lessons with him, and am now targeting shooting in the 60's once in my life!

Matt is a great teacher, and I have recommended him to a few of my friends who have all liked his expertise and approach.

I'd highly recommend Matt if you are looking for a thoughtful pro who knows how to work with students to get results!

Matt Harrell is an exceptional coach at the Golf Academy at Blackthorn who tailors his lessons to your specific needs and builds on optimising what your body and swing type will allow you to do.
I just completed a golf lessons package (5 lessons) with him and am very happy with the progress in my game and scoring. He has a gift of boiling down swing concepts into simple steps which can be used with all clubs. I am happy to state that my average distance has gone up by 5 to 10 yds by using more core versus arms (like so many amateurs).
Finally, as a Senior golfer playing 5 times each week I wanted to enhance my game and not go for major surgery on my swing etc. Matt was able to accomplish just that and I will continue to build on this foundation in the future.

He is invested in the success of each of his clients and can work with any client regardless if they have been playing golf for a while or are new to the sport.Matt has helped me choose clubs and improve my swing.
