For more than 100 years, the YMCA has contributed to the lives of thousands of people of all ages, races, religions, and economic backgrounds in South Bend. We are a non-profit charitable organization like few others in the area. At the Y, we have the unique opportunity to touch the lives of infants, children, adults, and seniors throughout the Michiana community.
We are located on the third and fourth floor of the Leighton Memorial Healthplex located at 111 W. Jefferson Blvd. South Bend, IN 46601. Enter the parking garage on Jefferson Blvd. and our entrance is on the third floor.

Why this location doesn't accept insurance. Makes absolutely no sense to me. If you have programs that aren't included. Restrict the membership or have people pay the difference. This isn't an exclusive health club. It's a YMCA. And you should be ashamed of turning people away who's insurance will pay for a membership. Guess the new nice Y doesn't want certain people at that location. And that's sad. No matter what your excuse is.

We pay for a family membership and can hardly use it. No Child, watch between 12 and three. No children in the pool until 3:30 PM. Parents who are at home all day with their children. Need to have the ability to come here and use the facility during the day with their children not just early in the morning or late at night. Absolutely ridiculous. When you discriminate against children, you discriminate against their mother's too.

For those who care about reviews in my honest opinion do your research on YMCA down town south bend before you become a member
If you have any concerns you better take it to corporate
the manager name Sarah does not ever reply phone calls or emails! And not just one call,, I called multiple times the last time the staff just said she is out the door she will call you back
Tried to see in person She is not available
After so long I gave it up!
If she is getting paid to do her job,,,
I wonder what is it she does???
If a paying member has an issue and you canβt count on the manager to address it.
Thatβs Not the place to spend my money at!

Maria really needs to work on her phone etiquette! Being condescending to someone merely calling to ask a question isnβt necessary, being polite to ALL people isnβt difficult

I love the YMCA facility, but I will not tolerate an employee who constantly nitpicks at grown men. There is a personal trainer named Shea who takes his job way too seriously, making the environment uncomfortable by selectively enforcing rules and targeting certain people. A gym should feel welcoming, not like youβre being watched and singled out.

Love the Y. They have done a phenomenal job with the transition. The classes are great. Best sauna in the area. Covered garage parking in the winter. Great indoor walking trail.

After working out a bit at the Granger Facility- I tried DTSB, I found it to be more of the atmosphere I was looking for. This month it will change into a YMCA and Iβm anticipating what that will bring. Currently I can highly recommend the facility

Inappropriate activity occuring in the men's sauna, and employees don't do anything about it.

Just signed for my free month on Friday. Rosa (I believe thatβs her name) at the front desk is extremely friendly and caring! The equipment is dated but gets the job done. Not crowded at 5:30pm which I love!

Love the people and the community I feel at this gym - Truly a nice place to come to every morning! They have everything I need in terms of equipment and the amenities are great (I love the towel service and spoiling myself with coffee and some time in the sauna after a workout). The only downside is the hours. They arenβt great especially on the weekend. Iβd love earlier and later for both Saturdays and Sundays.

Friendly and helpful staff, wide range of equipment and amenities. The only thing that keeps it from 5 stars is the upkeep of the aquatics, showers, and dated equipment (each only slightly) overall great place and would/do recommend

There's very few places you can just get a one day pass to swim laps. This place is the best for that. Also free parking for up to 2 hours.

I love this gym. Seriously. It is a little smaller than some might expect, and not all of the equipment is brand new, but this gym has a ton of character and countless regulars. You really feel part of a community at this gym!

It's not as big as Elkhart or Granger, but it's well laid out and is as accommodating as the other two. The only gripe is the locker sizes (had to nitpick for that). Highly recommend.

Friendly and helpful staff. Itβs never busy. I feel very secure, there have been a few times when I forget my lock and I never have any worries about just putting my stuff in an empty locker. Locker rooms are pleasant, clean and stocked. Clientele is mostly elderly, but not all. I never have a problem finding a machine I want to use or a free lane in the pool to swim in. I personally prefer this location over the new Granger location as it feels more intimate and also has basketball and racquetball courts. Plus I almost always find a parking spot right next to the door in the garage. Sure there are a few things that could use a little updating, but nothing about this place bothers me.
If youβre serious about getting into a regular fitness regime, I suggest paying a little extra to go here than going the cheap route with Planet Fitness or other chains. My only issue is I wish they stayed open later on weekends (close at 5pm Saturday and Sunday)

Very convenient. Plenty of amenities. Weight lifting area is undersized. Lockers are hit and miss whether they will lock. I enjoy it better than Granger location but that is up to each individual. Classes are solid. Generally the place is well maintained.

The gym is generally clean and it's rarely crowded (this is the South Bend location; I hear the Mishawaka one has more people.) The staff is friendly and the equipment is well-maintained. The owners won't buy new equipment--one staff member told me that "dozens" of people had asked for a $200 piece of equipment that lets you do standing crunches, but they refuse to buy new equipment--and maintenance of the gym proper is often inadequate. Over the course of a few months, the temperature in the gym increased from 72 degrees (already too warm) to 78, but the staff didn't acknowledge the problem. Then, one day when water started to pour from the ceiling, a repairman finally came and chastised the manager loudly (many of us could hear him) for being too cheap to replace a 25-year-old AC system. In order to keep the old system going, the managers try not to put any strain on it, so the gym is not cool. Since all the windows in the gym are sealed shut and there are no portable fans, the result is an uncomfortable gym during the summer months. That's why I didn't renew my membership. Beacon's opening a new location soon, but I'm sure I'm not the only (former) member who wishes they'd put some more effort into caring for the gyms they already have.

This is my favorite of the two facilities to visit simply because it gets a bit less traffic than the Mishawaka facility. It's older but clean. There tends to be at least one thing broken and any given time because it's an older facility. Generally not too much of an inconvenience though.
