A great atmosphere for those who want to better themselves. Really supportive group and recognized nationally for all the great work they do.

Indianapolis is lucky to have such a strong Shotokan dojo, along with very dedicated and experienced seniors. Head instructor John Teramoto, who serves as Shihan of the national organization, is one of the best seniors I have been privileged to train under. He has a keen eye, and is able to take his sixty-plus years of experience, and offer targeted, personalized feedback to beginners and advanced practitioners alike.

In my case, I have struggled for years to develop proper hip strength and posture. John's emphasis on standing-leg practice has helped me open up my hips and improve my kicking form immensely. During my most recent practice with him, he also noticed that my weight was shifted too much onto my front leg, and helped me make an adjustment that has improved my balance and ability to move quickly.

Being on the West Coast, I am only able to train with John and the other Indianapolis blackbelts every other month or so. However, for those in the Indianapolis area, who are interested in traditional Japanese karate, I highly recommend that you take advantage of the proximity of such top-notch instruction, and check out this dojo.

Wow...there are not enough words to express my gratitude for this dojo. My son has only been a student for a little over a month (12-23-22). He is 15. This is not for small children because it is an authentic, pure martial arts dojo. The instructors are knowledgeable and humble. SKA is also a 501C3 non-profit organization dedicated to passing down the knowledge of ancient practice. No gimmicks, no egos, no favoritism...inclusiveness is not just a word here. LGBTQA community friendly. If you are here to learn that's all that matters. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Excellent practice, excellent dojo, excellent organization, and exceptional people.
I have only been practicing here for about 6 months, and it's already become a significant part of my life, and improved my fitness and my mindset. There's nothing quite like it to help you develop yourself as a person.

Was having a great time at this dojo. It is a non traditional shotokan dojo as far as the iskf, jka, askf etc.. All was cool until one of the higher belts caused me to need 3 stitches in my lip and defended his action as correct. My hope is that the higher ranks obtain more control and truly honor their dojo and Sensei. Best of luck to you!
