UPDATE: I'll keep the five stars to reflect the facility and staff, but I am exceptionally disappointed that they are allowing a third-party company to harass their members about parking. It's incredibly inconvenient and has wasted my time on multiple occasions.

Love the space but DEFINITELY needs new equipment for lower body. Would love a Glute Lift machine as there is only 2-3 smith machines in the facility and are always taken up. Even just more soft boxes (only seen 1 in total) to accommodate for the lack of lower body/glute equipment would be such a game changer.

I recently joined the Irsay YMCA in Indianapolis. Overall, itโs a good experience with friendly staff and a welcoming environment. I especially like the walking track on the third floorโitโs a great feature and makes workouts more enjoyable.
That said, I do wish the gym had more of the most-used machines. At peak times, it can be tough to get access because theyโre often in use. The equipment could also use more frequent cleaning and dusting to keep things fresh.
With a few improvements, this could easily become one of the best fitness spots in the city.

Beautiful establishment. The views of the city alone are noteworthy; and top-notch equipment, space, classes, and swimming!(!!!).
I was impressed. As a disabled chap looking for accessibility, equipment and spaces (the pools!!!), with a knowledgeable and friendly staff? Again: impressed!!!

I don't know why they
Treat the people that do the water aerobics so bad, its like they don't want us there, maybe because we're old here's why I say and think this
They only have 3 water aerobics classes a week
And they let the pool that's supposed to be 80 degrees get down to 76
That's a big difference and the room is cool also
It's like there trying to get rid of us, maybe because most of us get it through silver sneekers, Baxter Y
Has 5 water aerobics class 5 days a week and some on weekends, and I'm not the only one that thinks this way either
signed, the old people that do water aerobics

This place is big but not overwhelming or inconvenient to navigate at all. There's a lot to do. I work out with Charlie Aubin, who's fantastic. Shoot basketball by myself. Stretch. Swim. Go to the sauna and hot tub. Everything is high-quality and pretty well-kept. I haven't done many classes but the options seem pretty good.
My quibbles are tiny - I wish they had more foam rollers, bigger towels in the locker room, and better basketballs, but I bring my own now. There seems to be a lot of programming besides what I do.

Funny how a policy change can affect the experience at this gym so drastically. Essentially they make you take your shoes off in the sauna. Wearing socks or being barefoot. That is beyond unsanitary. They say it's to keep the sauna cleaner, but now puts my feet at risk to all sorts of disease and scum. Or you have to bring extra socks. But wait it gets worse. They let any yahoo they want soaking wet from the pools in their trunks or suits to hop right in. It's a slip and slide. Soaking said socks. At first I just kept my shoes on but then they enforce it and embarrass you. I've told all this to management and they just shrug and do nothing. Completely ruined this gym for me. As expensive as they are you think they'd care about the guest more than they do.

The facility is beautiful and well equipped-no complaints there. However, the new parking scheme is really painful. Both my wife and I, after carefully reporting our license plates to the front desk, received notice of parking violations in the mail for $102. We supplied our member numbers and IDs as requested and struggled to obtain competent help to remove the parking violations from the 3rd party issuing the violations. How many faithful YMCA members are burning time resolving disappointing parking disputes?

They are very bad at keeping the pool schedule updated. I drove all the way there and changed into my swimwear, only to find a โPool Closedโ sign on the door. Apparently, there was a swim meet, but they failed to update the online schedule or post any information ahead of time.
I even asked the coaches and the front desk if they knew whether there are any more swim meets this summerโnobody had a clue!

My issue is with the memberships service I came in on a scholarship for $30 monthly I didnโt know they needed tax information after a year or the scholarship will be dropped . Not knowing that theyโre taking $106 out of my account for 3 months without me actually knowing and only will refund the current month when I finally realized my money was missing . ๐ฎโ๐จ and they were suppose to fix my parking ticket for 3 months so funds was adding up but I got that taken care of as well .

Multiple people have posted about the predatory practices of the parking enforcement by Parking Revenue Recovery Services. Yet, the Irsay Family YMCA continues to contract with Parking Revenue Recovery Services. PRRS recently settled a lawsuit in Colorado for their predatory practices. I paid for $48 for 6 hours of parking to attend the NCAA tournament, I left that empty parking lot at 1 am, at 6 hours and 10 minutes and am being charged $100 fine for exceeding the 6 hours. Please treat you community members better than this, drop PRRS as a service provider.

Never had any issues here. Fitness center has everything I need and more. If there was a way to fit in another plate loaded leg press or hack squat, that would be nice. Locker room and showers are well maintained.
Have to account for the sauna being closed from 1-4 when I visit here, but that's not a big deal.
Hope there's plans to fix the potholes in the parking lot, especially that big one right at the entrance.

Well I got an email from Irsay telling me to stop by their center if I was interested in getting a membership, because they would even show me around the place. So I stop by, I approach the customer service lady and ask her about more information just to be told the price/month and when I asked what does that include she just respond vaguely some info and told me to go look at the wall behind me if I wanted to know more about. Way to go to get more clients ๐คฃ didnโt even ask for her name cause I was too tired to fight but I went on Friday April 18th at 4:30 ish. So I just left with a feeling of my time being wasted ๐

I am extremely disappointed with the way I was treated at the Irsay Family YMCA. As a paying member, I expected a welcoming and professional environment, but instead, I was met with disrespectful staff who denied me access to a facility I was entitled to use, refused to provide any clear reasoning, and ultimately banned me without justification.
To make matters worse, staff escalated the situation unnecessarily by calling the police as an intimidation tactic, despite the fact that I remained peaceful throughout the entire interaction. Their behavior was unprofessional, discriminatory, and completely unacceptable.
I used to enjoy my YMCA membership, but after this experience, I can no longer support an organization that mistreats its members and fails to uphold basic customer service and respect. I would strongly caution anyone considering joining this location.

Parked here after hours while waiting for my wife at the Taylor swift concert. Maybe here for 30 minutes. Got a ticket two weeks later for parking. I get it was probably loitering. Donโt care, just like chill on the ticketing. Be more chill.
Adding:
Iโd also like to note that they are also ticketing a pregnant woman. We attempted to secure a location as close as possible due to one of our occupants being pregnant. Pretty repugnant of this so called โFamilyโ organization.

I absolutely adore Caroline our Water aerobics, instructor she's awesome. The five stars go to her and I enjoy talking to the two young ladies at the desk at registration, but the lifeguards some of them tend to be very rude especially to people of color as if we're not want it there so that gets a one star For meโผ๏ธ I believe someone in head position needs to definitely have a meeting and straighten them all out, not all of them, but there's a few that tend to be disrespectful For no reason at all and I'm tired of racist people they can be very rude to Caroline as well and it really needs to stop other than that. A few minutes before the registration desk closed, my husband and another customer were in line. She was accepted but he was denied entry. The lady at the desk helped the woman in front of him and then denied him, starting that, โ There was nothing she could do.โ If two customers are in line before closing and you choose to help the non-black customer but reject the black customer, I am under the impression that there may be a racism issue.

Agree with the other comments. Iโve been a member here for 6 years now. Prices have definitely increased multiple times since then and there seems to be less and less hours the actual gym is opened. To have no pool options on Sunday, the day most people have time to go into the gym is a little insane and to be closed from 1-4 before the rush of people coming after work is also a little crazy especially with the constant increase in prices. Gym equipment and layout is great and I love all the natural light. Wish the hours and availability of all the amenities we pay for would be more thought out.

The YMCA has been an inclusive space where I can rejuvenate both my body and mind, and overall, I have no major complaints. The Irsay facility, in particular, meets all of my usual gym needs. However, one suggestion I have, based on personal experience, is the lack of an affordable option, such as a volunteer program, for members who have fallen on hard times like unemployment. Considering the YMCA's mission to serve all people, I hope this gap can be addressed. Being unemployed shouldn't prevent access to at least a limited experience with a community that has been instrumental in my healing process.

Parking there is a scam if you aren't a member. I was a service provider. Driving in off of Alabama, there is no signage that it's a pay lot. No signage in front of parking spaces. Then you get a "ticket" from their 3rd party partner, Parking Revenue Recovery Systems, for $92!!!
Then, you can't even pay the damn thing because they don't have it in their online system. Had to wait on hold for an hour just to give them money.

The sauna hours are only open 4 hours a day. Why not just rope off the pool and leave the sauna open? Why make those who want to use the sauna suffer because the pool has to be closed? A simple solution could be found by blocking off the area of the pool. I want to be able to use the sauna before or after my workout despite the hours extending way beyond the sauna open/closing hours. Considering my membership cancelled once I found out about these hours.

I cannot support the practices of this or any other YMCA. Their parking lot did not have clear recognizable signs explaining how or where to park and their parking fines are absurd. YMCA contracts Parking Revenue Recovery Services. If you park in this parking lot to have breakfast with your family on a Sunday, be prepared for a $92 parking ticket. Sorry YMCA, but this is outrageous and you hire this company to monitor and fine your parking lot.

At one time I loved Irsay until! I had an experience with a biology man in the women's locker room. It was quite disturbing. When I approach member service about the matter. I was baffle at the response. YMCA is suppose to represent Christianity. Biology men should never be allowed to enter the women's locker rooms. These people are selfish entitled and bullies. The FAMILY locker room welcomes all genders Please go use the Family locker room. Its not ok no matter what equality and inclusion you place on it. It's unacceptable PERIOD. Women should feel comfortable in their own spaces. Invest in more locker rooms for the trans community.

On second floor, staff are always willing to assist to help people adjust and operate the equipment. I use the running track twice a week. I'm 77 and am up to 4 miles of running each day. Just started the eGym program, computerized sequence of resistance machines that have improved my strength and built up my diminishing muscles. This is the spiffiest YMCA facility I have ever seen. All free through my insurance Silver Sneakers program.

Very relaxing in the pool, and hot tub. Family friendly, quiet places for business owners to come and study @ a quiet table. And workout machines to get your fit.

Dustiest basketball court of all time. Is it really that hard to mop it seriously? Courts are always closed for volleyball and kids.

I like the location, virtual classes, and equipment but there are a few concerns. The bathrooms are either always clogged or they don't flush! Could use an upgrade on manual flush toilets instead of sensors.
The workout/dance rooms are always locked - which I think is a loss on some workout real estate in this already space-limited gym. I enjoy the Irsay YMCA but it can be cramped so opening the dance spaces would be helpful.

I really want to like this gym. It's clean and has nice equipment. But I usually go for the bodypump classes and it's been constant frustration for months. They have a lot of virtual classes (no instructor) and often the room is not ready for the class. Several times the class started but there was no audio or you could barely hear it. The staff had no idea how to fix it and didn't seem to care. The last time I went they had no clue there was even a class and the project was up. Sometimes the equipment room is locked and once someone was sleeping in the classroom and I had to ask them to leave. I know virtual classes are economic, but at least an instructor would have the room ready. Instructors also help new learners as the videos are too fast and you have to already be very experienced with the class to keep up.
I got frustrated enough to just cancel my Y membership. It's too expensive if I can't do the classes.

For a โluxury gymโ this place is way too crowded. Workout area is way too small. Not enough racks to deadlift on, gets way too crowded for what you pay when I go. And thereโs never an open lane in the pool to swim. For the traffic this place gets. Either up the price and weed people out, or increase your space.

I enrolled my child in a youth membership for basketball, given that outdoor activities are limited in December. He's taken swimming lessons in the past and I would sit and watch him swim. Today when we went to pick up his pass, the encounter with the guest services representative was quite uncomfortable. The representative questioned, "What are you going to be doing?" I explained that I would be watching my child, and she suggested I might need to pay for a guest pass. I clarified that I wouldn't be using the facilities myself, as I don't work out. However, she then made a strange comment, saying, "Well, you could go into the bathroom to change your clothes and then go work out; we wouldn't know." I found this remark awkward and accusatory. If I wanted a family membership, I would have opted for that. Despite my lack of interest in working out, I'm sure there are other parents who simply want a safe indoor environment for their children to play. Perhaps the situation was misinterpreted, especially since I was carrying my child's water bottle and backpack? Nevertheless, the facility itself is nice and will gladly pay for guest pass if required to sit and observe.

As a new member, I appreciated the offer of a free session with a personal trainer. I was asked my goals: build strength and flexibility. After some history and filling out a couple of forms, I was shown several exercises and machines to get started. The program allows flexibility with at least a 24 hour notice, too.
