We had a regular LA Fitness membership that came with a free trainer session. During that free consult—whatever happened during the “fixabilities”—we ended up in a training contract even though we said we needed flexibility and, with my wife’s health, we weren’t sure about committing. At signing, I asked about cancellation fines; the trainer said it was a generic form and told us he would help in cancelling the trainer program if it didn’t work out for us.
Later, my wife’s doctor ordered no gym and physical therapy. Cancellation was refused—the trainer told me that unless she physically cannot walk, there’s no cancellation without a hefty fine. That’s not what we were told when signing. Who does that?

the “regional manager” did not talk to us respectfully, he has an attitude feel bad for his family if he has one, he’s a bald guy i tried to use my guest pass and wouldn’t take a photo id, i’ve done this for a while and i always show them my photo and went in every time, the bald guy disrespected me and my friends it’s a cool gym, just not a cool guy. please be aware of this bald guy. “how you gonna tell me the rules im the regional manager” like man was acting like it’s life or death. man needs some play or something, maybe chill pill

Update 11/30/23 stair climber referenced above still inoperable. Showed a manager some filthy spots around pool shower tiles - took 2 weeks to have the dirt cleaned.

I recently signed up for a 3 day pass since I’m new to the area. When I walked into the facility, I had a basketball with me, not realizing that basketball access wasn’t included in the pass. Once I was informed, I made it clear that I wouldn’t be using the court and that I simply didn’t know the rule.
Unfortunately, Ralph responded in a disrespectful and unwelcoming way. Instead of explaining things calmly, he insisted I had to pay $20 to use the facility at all, even though I wasn’t planning to play basketball, which goes against the gym’s stated policy.
Overall, my short experience here didn’t feel very welcoming, and I hope future guests are treated with more understanding and respect than I was.

I had one of the most shocking customer service experiences I’ve ever witnessed with Ralph. I came to this LA Fitness location to reconnect with a friend I hadn’t seen in over two years and planned to use the 7-day free trial pass that LA Fitness openly advertises. When I mentioned I was interested in playing basketball, the manager, Ralph, immediately said I’d need to pay a $20 day pass just to access the court. I politely said, “That’s okay, I’ll just lift today,” thinking that would be the end of it.
But instead, Ralph flat-out refused to let me into the gym at all, saying that because I had expressed interest in basketball, he couldn’t allow me in. No rule was broken, no policy violated, I simply asked a question, and suddenly my entire pass was void.
When my friend, a life long member, tried to politely ask for clarification, Ralph’s reaction was disturbing. He stood up abruptly, his face turned bright red, and you could literally see his chest heaving from how visibly angry he became. He started yelling, berating my friend in front of everyone in the lobby, over a calm question. It was so unhinged that even a nearby potential customer witnessing this scene stood up and walked out. Instead of taking any accountability, Ralph turned and blamed us for that customer leaving.
At no point did either of us raise our voice, use inappropriate language, or act disrespectfully. We were calm the entire time, which made Ralph’s outburst even more surreal. This wasn’t someone “having a bad day”, this was someone who clearly should not be in any kind of customer-facing role.
To make things more bizarre, we drove to another LA Fitness location just 20 minutes away and were welcomed with no issue whatsoever. I used the 7-day pass exactly as advertised, had a great workout, and was treated with respect.
Bottom line: Ralph is unprofessional, emotionally volatile, and completely unfit for a management role. LA Fitness should seriously reconsider who they put at the front of their brand. I will never return to this location.

I am moving to Zionsville in May. I signed up for the three day trial, drove all the way there to check it out, and when I told the staff member that I wanted to play basketball as well as work out, the general manager, Ralph came up to the desk. He went on to tell me that he was not going to activate my three day trial because I am not allowed to use the basketball courts on the trial as it was only for members. I tried to tell him that I was fine with not playing basketball And that I would work out instead, and he told me he didn’t believe me and that he wasn’t the police of the basketball courts and told me to leave. I Couldn’t believe how rude he was being so I asked him if he was calling me a liar and told him I just drove all the way here to try the gym and that I wouldn’t play basketball Now understanding the rules, but He got more aggressive and told me to get out right now. At this point, I told him he was being out of line and we got into a verbal exchange and he threatened to call the police on me. Unbelievable I cannot understand how someone so incompetent and rude can be the general manager of such a nice gym. He was literally shaking and spitting like a maniac while screaming at me to leave and acting like he was going to put his hands on me I’ve never seen anything like it. He got right up in my face I was very close to having to defend myself. I will be in touch with corporate tomorrow.

It is nice that they maintain the equipment. However, the gym is consistently dirty. Especially the floors that we lay on to workout. Sometimes there is soap and paper towels in the dispensers, Sometimes not! It would also be nice if they had a wet suit wringer in the pool to wring out most of the moisture from our bathing suits. Hot tub is awesome. Lockers in men's room are in disrepair.

We made reservations of the basketball court for the last year. But this year the manager rejected our request of continuing the reservation for some reason I don’t fully understand. Please tell us the rules for making the reservation of the basketball court so that I could understand the rejection is not due to some discrimination. I will not join LA fitness any more and keep fighting for fairness unless I could understand and accept why we were rejected.

Well I can’t tell you if it’s good because when I went to sign up the guy at the front desk flat out ignored me. He was playing on his laptop the whole time and initially glanced at me briefly. At first I figured he was working on something and would get to me, but after a few minutes it became clear that he was not going to address me at all so I walked out. Never so much as said hi or even a single word to me. If that’s the initial encounter I can’t imagine entering into a relationship with the company.

LA Fitness living up to its reputation of making difficult for members to cancel their membership. Can’t cancel membership on the app, and when I went in on a Saturday to cancel my membership personally, I was informed that cancellations can’t be done on the weekends, due to the manager not working. The front counter person was smug and couldn’t care less, as if she enjoyed it (visited 2/1 @ 11AM). There is nothing LA Fitness can do to defend this unethical business practice, they just want to force you to get the pitch to try to keep you.if customer service was their top concern , they’d have a simple process on their mobile app/website. I’m canceling due to moving and my new employer has a very nice gym in the office. All LA Fitness did was ensure if I ever am in need of a gym again, I will definitely not be using them. Beware!!!

This location used to be very clean and why I would make the drive to go. The last few months, it has been poorly maintained in terms of cleanliness. In the women’s restroom, the trash cans are overflowing, personal hygiene bins full and smell, the paper towels are empty more times than not. The young lady who works the mornings during the week spends most of her time sitting on the mirror ledge on her phone, watching people look for paper towels and continuing to add trash to the already overflowing bins. One morning I was in the sauna and she propped the door open with her dustpan lmao. When I ask to shut the door back to keep the heat in, she told me she was cold. And proceeded to lean against the sinks in the restroom area. On the gym floor, I am constantly looking for matching dumbbell’s and racking random plates and dumb bells that are scattered about, in order to workout in an area. Nothing is put away at the end of the previous night. There’s always paper towels and empty pre-workout cans around equipment. The gym has drastically gone downhill as of lately.

People at their customer service desks should be working in another industry, they are ill fitted for this job. How difficult can it be to understand the pricing for a gym/ workout studio!? Do check out LA fitness, especially this location, to see the same. I have made three trips to this place now and I still don’t know how to sign up, what to pay, and what’s the whole process like. While the facilities look spotless, I am not sure if anyone interested in signing would want to go through such hurdles.

I want to cancel my membership and I am being asked to come during work hours between 9 AM and 5 PM Monday to Friday. I was able to join easily on a weekend, why can't I cancel at the same time. I have been a member for 12 years and I cannot believe they are being so difficult. (The facility is good, and some of the instructors like Kim are amazing).

I just came to the location in Carmel-Michigan road for a class with was supposed to start at 5:45 pm … that class is at the app and printed there but nobody knows if going to happen or not? Unbelievable so I decided to leave as I just came for that … My family and I started this membership (we are 4) less than one month ago and it seems that nobody cares … I just know that I am having a very bad experience with this and will let my family and neighbors know … I am very disappointed of you!!!

As a member of LA|Fitness since 2010, I've witnessed various transitions and changes, and the current layout of the gym's front area at the 106th & Michigan Rd stands out as one of the better setups. However, certain aspects of the facilities need attention to provide a consistently pleasant experience.
While the front area impresses with its layout, the locker room leaves much to be desired. The lockers are in need of repairs, and the water fountain in the men's locker room has been out of order for some time. This inconvenience disrupts the overall convenience of the facilities.
Despite the commendable cleanliness of the sauna, its temperature doesn't match up to other locations I frequent. Additionally, the back area, where the pool is located, presents significant safety concerns. The floor around the pool is consistently slippery, posing a risk of accidents. This hazard is particularly alarming as I, like many others, am accustomed to a different environment at another location and can easily be caught off guard. Furthermore, the presence of trash floating in the pool during my last visit was disheartening and detracted from the overall experience.
It's disappointing that this location doesn't meet the standards set by other branches, especially considering its potential to be one of the nicest gyms in the area. I hope that the ownership of this location will prioritize the necessary repairs and maintenance to ensure a safer and more enjoyable experience for all members.

LA fitness carmel is nasty. There was poop smeared on the shower wall Sunday morning and my husband told the desk; it’s still there on Monday.
The ladies had a maxi pad on the floor.
4 pieces of gum on the floor in the pool and 2 bandaids. The lady swimming said the gum has been there a week. I feel less clean AFTER I shower there. Just disgusting. Everything is old and gross besides being poorly cleaned.

The workout equipments were sufficient and all seems to be in working condition. My only concern is the cleanliness of the locker room and shower area, the shower area/hall way to the pool was so dirty with debris that made me feel it hasn’t been cleaned for weeks. Many showers were also not working. I am starting to notice LA Fitness may be cutting back on their cleaning crew budget, similar issues noticed across different locations.

This gym used to be top tier, they could do a better job keeping this facility clean, that means vacuuming or sweeping and mopping. There is a sour stench near the stairway by the Stairmasters. The equipment stays broken longer than it should before someone attempts to fix it, then its broken again. Why not just replace it? 2/4 Stairmasters were not working today (no out of order sign) 1/4 of the broken SM had been broken for 5 months. The ab machine is broken, seems like it does not bother management that there is a perpetual out of order sign on equipment. I have been working out here since they opened around 2008, definitely has gone down and the prices have gone up.

The walkway from the locker room to the pool is slippery as hell. I was moving extremely slow just to get there. Early birds that mean a lot of old folks in the jacuzzi. Didn’t even stay too crowded. I have been coming for over 5 years and every year they turn the heat on in the group fitness classroom and then close the doors to the room making it a sauna in the room. Not only is it dangerous but they won’t do anything about it, they just think it’s ok to die on their watch…good luck complaining about it! They also refuse to give you any fans!

Great gym with lots of amenities (including racquetball, pool, hot tub, classes, etc.) One of the best features is that they accept credit card as payment instead of doing direct debit. I've had issues in the past with gyms not canceling memberships so it's nice to know I can do a chargeback if I encounter similar issues here. Hopefully it never comes to that as I'm enjoying the gym and have no plans to cancel anytime soon anyways (and it will hopefully be a smooth cancelation if I ever do), but it's nice to know I'm protected.

Fair warning to everybody, don't go to this gym if your gym partner has a different body type than you. They'll claim that one of you is paying to be trained by the other. Apparently the fat guy MUST be paying the shredded guy to come to the gym with him, according to Ralph.
On top of that, it's pretty gross in there. I'm not sure they've ever once cleaned the turf area and their cardio equipment is garbage. If you're looking for a lap pool, just go to Zionsville HS!

Some instructors' punctuality is rather questionable. There's one male instructor who teaches well, unfortunately, after his frequently being late (I am not talking about being late for less than 5 minutes....that's nothing...)and a couple of times just not showing up at all, I lost interest completely. Today the sub for Kim's class is another joke.
She's late for over 10 minutes, started the class after 15 min, and concludes the class after 30 minutes working out including cooling down. It's supposed to be an hour long session! We just looked at each other without saying anything when she announced the class is over. Avoid this sub. When Kim is not coming, just don't go. Not worth the drive at all.

I was delighted to see that LA Fitness gives you the opportunity to get a free 3-day gym pass. The staff were all kind when I came in too! When I came to workout, however, I was annoyed that the sanitation stations (disinfectant & paper towel dispenser) were spread out and generally lined the perimeter of the gym because I wanted to spray the equipment after I used it. Also the paper towels were only really good for one use. Because the stations and trash cans were far away and annoying to go to, it makes it hard for me to believe others wipe the equipment down for others when they are done, so I would wipe the equipment down before and after use. I would love to see LA Fitness add more stations and trash cans to encourage cleanliness and switch from paper towels to towels that can be washed after use.
The gym itself has a lot of nice equipment. I came in around 6pm and it was pretty busy. While some equipment I wanted to use was being used the entire time, there were always other options for me to get in a good workout.

Poor mgmt, mold all in the pool area drywall because of improper hvac maintenance, all around just an inferior LA Fitness compared to the other Carmel location. You’ll see the same trash in the hot tub area for a week at a time. All you have to do is look at all the trash in their landscaping and you can tell this mgr needs to go.

Really not sure what all the complaints are about. Its a gym, and the workout equipment, employees, and lighting are great. I can't attest to the pool, or hot tubs or whatever because I go to the gym to workout. The equipment works fantastic, and the customers and employees are all respectful. There are people who constantly sweep and mop the gym and bathrooms. Im happy with this gym, and its a much better experience than jogging in the streets or workout out at home by far.

Oh how I wish I could really write what I think without filtering it ….
So I bought a membership online because LA Fitness seemed like a logical choice, they have pool and sauna and hours I was looking for. So I pay my $49 per month for 2 months and then there is a option of “towel service” for just $5 per month but what a convenient option it is. So I signed up. Imagine my surprise when I found out there is NO towel service at this location and the attitude you get is something out of this world! But I’m guessing it’s my thin white skin talking because if you any other color you get A+ service at this location. Also, I can’t pass the fact that people absolutely have no idea how to use sauna, they just go in fully dressed so they can “break a sweat “ and then they go into a gym … seriously?!? What planet are we on? After visiting this gym I seriously start looking into purchasing equipment and setting it up in my garage. This is downright disgusting, sauna stinks of old sneakers and rubber soles, jacuzzi has a foam and staff looks at you down their nose as if they doing you a favor by just being there. And yes I would attest to them being racist. As to towel service- this issue will need to be resolved somehow and I will update my review when it is.

I have been going to this gym for a year now and here is what I like about it: weight machines organized by muscle groups, sauna, hot tub, lap pool, and variety of weight machines. This is where the positives end for me. When I first joined, I was given a complimentary weight training session which, while enjoyable, was followed by the trainer desperately trying to get me to pay over $300 a month for a long term personal training session despite my protests about this not being feasible in my budget. When he finally conceded that I just wanted the basic membership he angrily crumpled up one of the forms he had me fill out and threw it into the trash. This is not how a professional should act. I mostly attend early in the mornings and in the recent months have found paper towels often run out leaving people unable to properly clean the equipment after use. We can't ask the front desk attendant as they spend the first hour and a half on their own workout. I have seen many people enter without scanning during this timeframe which makes me wonder why I even pay for a membership, would they even check the cameras? The cardio equipment is in a really sorry state. The built in fans on most of them are CAKED with dust. Don't even try using the upright bike or step machines upstairs, they are all either completely broken or will break while you use them. The showers all have terrible heads to them that make it nearly impossible to actually clean yourself. While they do have a pool, I find myself rarely able to use it with there only being 3 lanes and when I do backstroke is impossible due to the lack of flags causing me to always smack my hand into the wall.
If there were another gym in the area that had the amenities I need I would seriously consider cancelling my membership here as I'm already considering giving up what I do like here to move elsewhere.

Do not sign up here or work with Deon B, sales manager (surprisingly) at this location. He ruined my LA Fitness experience completely. Unfriendly, extremely unhelpful and disrespectful, especially for a manager. Also, watch out for hidden future fees built into in their membership pricing! Overpriced for the quality of gym they offer.

Front Desk worker was great. My -2 stars is due to the showers in the men's. The heads need changing or an extremely deep cleansing. The showers in the back had a strong urine smell too. So possibly need to clean those more. Sauna was okay. Got hotter than the one in Indianapolis.

We signed up for the personal training here, at a substantial cost. Our first session we could not hear the trainer and he gave us 3 exercises to do. Spoke with the person who had signed us up and told him we weren’t going to pay for this. He convinced us to try again with someone else. It was a little better, but still not even close to the $360 a month cost. We asked to be cancelled. We were told that we had already paid for 8 sessions and could use those and then cancel. We scheduled a few more, but we’re then billed for the next month. When we asked about it, they told us the person we had been dealing with was no longer employed there and that he had never canceled us. We are now on the hook for over $1600 because of a contract. No consideration for our unhappiness, the lack of value. We spoke with the regional manager and a VP, who both only care about money. If you are actually interested in fitness and getting in shape, choose anywhere else.

Absolutely not ok to advertise kids club and then have no one to work it and have zero communication that its not open. The "everyone is understaffed" excuse is over. Adapt and find a way to gain employees like everyone else or don't charge and offer the service. Just a suggestion here but if your understaffed you might want to consider paying more or offering incentives.

Very Upset!! New to LA Fitness. Three times here and 2 instructors were late for 20 to 30 minutes and the personal trainer even didn’t show up. Plus poor management. No one would help in situations like there. They just asked me to wait. Terrible experience. I think I am gonna switch back to Y.

I've been a member and visited this gym for more than 7 years. Maintenance of the equipment is sporadic. The carpet is worn and has seen better days. The TV's up stairs haven't worked properly in months. When I asked the attendant, they said DirectTv would be out the next week. That hasn't happened. In general, the club is clean, but I expect more from the club for these monthly fees.
Update: Club has finally fixed the feed. After they saw my review, they have reached out to me and kept me updated on the process. Not in love that it took this to get change, but I’m upping my rating.

Liked working out there, however now that i'm working from home I dont want to drive 30+ minutes to workout.
I've always been told its near impossible to cancel services with a gym... but now that i'm trying... I actually havent been able to find a way to cancel services. After calling several times (4-5 now i think) I am told theres no way to cancel online or over the phone, you have to do it in person. Since I am unable to reach a branch location within the M-F 9-5pm.... I was told the only way is to physically mail them a letter.
I've attempted to call 4 times now to different
branches to help me login online to obtain a cancellation letter... because they can't or wont send you the letter directly.
Each time I call and speak to the manager... I am sent a link that doesn't allow me to login. After
attempting multiple times to reset my user/password, the
website tells me to contact a branch. The branch manager's then tell me
to go online where i am stuck as it tells me to call a branch location. I keep being told someone will
reach out to me to assist getting my online access restored... but
no one calls me back. It's a horrible loop that I assume is designed to get people to give up and just keep feeding them money.
At this point... I called my bank to dispute the charges. This is crazy how difficult it is to cancel services. Just wanted to post this as a warning that it is a decent place to workout but the customer service is pretty terrible unless you never want to cancel.

Deon & the entirety of the LA Fitness staff team are extremely friendly, helpful, and above all knowledgeable. I inquired on purchasing a membership, and was offered a 5 day free pass to try it out. Deon personally took the time to greet and show me around the entire facility. I most certainly wasn’t let down.
LA Fitness is hands down, without a doubt, the best gym I’ve ever been to. Machines for every purpose, basketball court, sauna, pool, futsal rooms, you name it. Everything is cleaned after each use. Great atmosphere, as well.

The gym is kept extremely clean. I have been early in the morning, mid day and evening to lift and each time I see someone walking around cleaning. I also like that they have a couple tables that have many bottles filled with cleaner for you to take with you from machine to machine and clean before and after use. I think the gym does a great job and is a great value for what you pay.

Not a very good place for the price, a lot of equipment is getting worn out, and crowded, no way to keep everything clean, just casual cleaning... ... And the air quality sucked during peak hours. Feels no big difference from planet fitness except heavier dumbbells and minimal free weights, only one foam roller and things such as TRX and kettlebell and battle rope are only for personal trainers. Very, very classical gym.

I was a member of LA fitness for a summer probably 10 years ago. I came back to my hometown to get a couple workouts in and was told guest passes don't apply since I was a previous member.
Fair enough, I then asked for a day pass. Then came the spiel about how I need to join their huge network of gyms and how much is my gym membership and what do I want to do with my fitness. I tire of them constantly trying to lock you into memberships that are difficult to cancel out of. I place no blame on the employee, this is a training / corporate mentality to push people into gym memberships they don't need.

Everything was good until I wanted to cancel my membership. The staff are so nice when a customer wants to join the gym. However, whenever the customer wants to cancel the membership, the staff will show their original character.
I waited for more than half an hour until somebody showed up to do my cancellation stuff. They behaved me in an irresponsible manner, charged me again despite I canceled my membership. I would never recommend this place to anyone only because of the registration staff and poor management. Save your money guys, until they change their behavior.

I’ve gone to LA fitness for nearly 4 years now. Never had a problem until I tried to cancel my membership due to going to college.
I tried to cancel online first, then over the phone, then in person, and again in person(this time 9-5). I was told that the only way I could cancel in person was M-F 9-5, or by mailing a form to corporate.
I found that I could even suspend my membership online, but cancelling online is apparently too complicated in 2021.

I love LA Fitness Carmel/Zionsville. The Zumba instructor on Monday, Wed, and Friday Suzy is THE BEST. She's motivating, fun and smilies alot to make you feel included. The participants are amazing. Its a little Zumba family!!! The Tues pm & Sat am Spin class with Johnny Whew!! Its the best one I've been too. Fun, motivating, and YOU WILL SWEAT AND BE TIRED!! Good Music too, so you're not bored!!
