It sets the tone when you walk through the door and the desk attendant has her feet up on the counter and doesn’t bother to look up from her phone.
I agree with other posts, MANY of the machines are simply worn out and need overhauled or replaced. Several of the cardio machines simply vanished and were not replaced.
There is no heat in the basketball court, the sauna is often not working, and there is no hot water in the showers about once a month.
It would be nice if just once I could get a workout in without people leaving a bag or water bottle to “hold” their spot in between reps.
Alas, no one seems to be running this place.

I used a 3-day trial at this location, and while the facility itself seems fine, I want to share my experience so others— especially beginners— know what to expect.
Before I could even start my workout, I was put through an “assessment” led by the membership director. I expected some sort of intake process, but the way it was handled was unprofessional, assumptive, and borderline unethical.
For context: I’m a certified trainer, nutrition coach, distance running coach, and have nearly a decade of experience working with clients and managing a gym. I didn’t disclose any of this because I wanted to see how they treat members who don’t have my background.
At no point before or during the assessment was I given any indication that the membership director was certified in training or nutrition... yet he proceeded to give advice as if he were.
When I told him I’m a runner who lifts to support my running, his immediate follow-up was, “How are your knees?” An extremely presumptive and stereotypical question.
I told him I did not care to be weighed, as it seemed irrelevant to my trial, and he told me he “had to” or he’d get in trouble. He then weighed me in a highly visible area of the gym, with people around, and announced the number out loud. He also guessed my BMI before calculating it, and when it was higher than he expected, he attributed it to the fact I am a runner and “do too much cardio.” None of this was appropriate or necessary... especially after I specifically stated I did not want to be weighed. He is not a doctor, and he has no business weighing people who aren't his PT clients and are simply there to try the gym.
He then gave unsolicited nutrition and training advice, including protein recommendations, body composition targets, and claims about running being “catabolic”— without knowing anything about my health history, my goals, or my needs. Again… I still had no proof he is certified to give any of that guidance.
Throughout the walkthrough, he continued making assumptions about my training, my preferences, and what machines he thought I’d be “into,” including insisting I’d probably care about a hip thrust machine that isn’t even part of my programming. The whole interaction felt stereotyped and completely impersonal.
After all of this, he asked me to sign up for a membership BEFORE I had even touched a machine or used the trial I’d signed up for.
For someone brand-new to fitness — someone who couldn’t immediately recognize his sales tactics or misinformation... this experience would have been confusing, misleading, and potentially unsafe. The advice he provided was inaccurate and delivered in a way that could easily make someone feel judged or self-conscious on their first day.
I appreciate the free trial, but the culture of a gym starts from the top down, and based on this experience, I’ll be keeping my options open and looking elsewhere.
If this gym is the most convenient option for you, and you just need a place to workout, the equipment itself is fine. Just be aware of the sales-driven “assessment” on the front end, and take anything you’re told with a grain of salt.

The only reason I come to this gym is because it’s 3 minutes away from my house. The most disgusting restrooms and the cheapest paper towels.

Good gym. Pretty clean and the members have proper gym etiquette by cleaning up and re-racking weights.
Don't have to worry about people chit chatting on the phones hogging benches or people recording themselves.

All the machines should be replaced. The smell of chlorine from the pool and the rust from the machines and dumbbells is incredible. The bathroom sink faucets are almost all broken from the salt water. Most of the bench seats are broken. Honestly, the best thing about the gym is that it has a kids club.

Poor upkeep. Mold around pool/whirlpool areas. I can't even remember the last time the Sauna was operational. The quality of the amenities offered is decreasing while the price of membership is increasing.

I debating even leaving a review, but I’ve now gotten two phone calls from this location, I can only assume asking me if I’m going to join this gym. I went into this location on 7/15/25 around 5:45pm to tour the facility. I’d called earlier that day and spoke to Kyndal, I told her I wasn’t happy with what my current gym offered and I was interested in some of the classes offered at LA Fitness, I wanted to come in to tour the facility. Kyndal was so kind on the phone, she seemed genuinely eager for me to come in and even offered to go over the class schedule with me and offered me a 3 day pass to try out the facility. I specifically asked her when would be a good time to come in, she told me if I wanted to come in that day she’d be there until they closed, or the next day, I believe she said the name was Andrew, would be able to show me around because she wouldn’t be there.
As someone who is fairly new to doing anything but walking my neighborhood and an occasional video workout in my living room, I was a little nervous about stepping into a gym of this degree, but like I said, Kyndal was so warm and welcoming on the phone, so I made it a point to go that day when she would be there.
When I got to the location, they were a little busier than I expected, however, people were just scanning barcodes and walking right in, while 3 people stood at the check in counter just monitoring, besides one girl who stood towards the back chatting with a guy she clearly knew well. I explained to the guy who asked if I needed help that I had called a bit ago and spoke with Kyndal who told me to come in anytime that day for a tour. I waited for her to finish her conversation and when she approached me she was very immediate to send me off to someone else. That guy took me over to a desk where he began asking me about their membership plans. I told him what I was there for, a tour of the facility, and he immediately jumped up and took me back over to the desk, telling Kyndal, not asking, to take me on the tour because he didn’t have time. She argued with him about it for well over a minute. Saying that she wanted to stay up front, that she was asked to watch the front, keep in mind there was another guy up there at this time as well. The man who brought me back to the counter then told Kyndal that he would watch the desk and to go give me the tour now. She didn’t like this and sighed while throwing her phone down on the counter, she stood up with annoyance and said to follow her. We got over to the two rooms where classes were held, and she just pointed at it and said she had no idea what class was going on but said “it was one they offered”. While standing there, instead of showing me any sort of schedule, she asked me what gym I currently go to. I told her the gym, and she immediately laughed and told me she worked there for a few months and then “sued their pants off”. As we continued walking she kept blanking on what she was doing, she would walk in front of me, talk the other direction, get side tracked often, and then told me by the stair climbers that I could eventually work my way up to them.. offensive as this was just being based off of my appearance.
She didn’t even take me upstairs and then she was annoyed that I wanted to see the pool. Sorry, I just wanted to tour the place.. she genuinely couldn’t wait to be done with the tour.
All this to say, I didn’t step foot back in that gym for even a single day of my “3 day trial”. If you want to get new members to sign the dotted line, this is not the way. I will never go back and I will warn everyone I know. As a business owner in Westfield, this is not a good look.

Sunday 7/6/2025 and while the gym is supposed to open at 8am, which is already pretty late, no one is here to open the gym. A dozen people standing in the sun, prob 20 people in their cars. Another 20 have already gone home. No one answers the phone.

Abysmal maintenance and management. The sauna, which is a requirement for any gym I would join, is down more than its working. There is an annoyingly ignorant segment of membership that insists on pouring water on the heat elements about once a week, bringing the sauna down. Management does nothing to prevent this. It’s reached the point where I’m looking for a new gym.

The main reason I use LAF is due to the sauna. I am only allowed 3 days to use the gym each week. The sauna is ALWAYS down or being fixed. Not to mention the equipment is always down or being repaired. I shouldn’t have to call the gym prior to attending for a paid amenity.
Over a decade ago when this club was opened it was not bad, but over the years it has gone downhill.
Future members be cautious. As your time & money might be better spend on nearby clubs that are the same cost that offer more for your money.

The gym equipment isn’t bad and they try and fix stuff in a somewhat timely manner. The cleanliness however is awful… There are literal inches of dust built up all over the ceiling. The sauna doesn’t get hot enough either. The parking lot has craters in it as well that could legitimately damage your wheels. The place just needs an all around refresh.

Be careful HIDDEN FEE before signing agreements. Cheating sale man.
I came two weeks ago and asked for membership by a sale guy sitting up front for the membership (he told me he is the gym manager).
He offered me to pay $34.99 for membership fee, first and last dues for $69.99 and $25.00 for initiation fee. That is all I need to pay. I was fine for that and signed agreements. He wrote down all of the fee above on a paper when we met.
After a few days, they charged me $59 for annual fee which I never paid for other gym places. I was not happy and I went back to ask him why I had $59 over charge for that. I told him that he didn’t let me know about that annual fee when I came to see him on that day and he even didn’t write it down on the paper in our conversation.
He refused that was his fault and I want to talk with the gym manager because I felt I was cheating. He told me he is the gym manager but I know he is not because he went to meet someone to ask for the agreement discount for me in the first day.
After our argument, he accepted it was his fault and he would not charge me $59 for annual fee if the membership was not cancelled.
After 2 days, it was charged in my credit card and I went back the gym to talk with him. He told me the manager didn’t accept to wave the fee and I have to pay the stupid fee because I signed the agreement. He said “I am very happy to help you about the cancellation”. Very good customer service.
Ok. I told him to cancel my membership and never recommend anyone to go to this cheating place.
I used to go to Lifetime fitness for 10 years but I just moved to this area. So I have to looking for a new place. But this is the worst place I’ve ever met.
NEVER GO BACK AND YOU GUYS SHOULD BE CAREFUL WHEN COMING.

Sorry but this gym is actually so dirty. No one cleans the equipment , you’d go to use something with visible sweat streaks on it dried on. I was so grossed out to the point I had to start wiping equipment down beforehand and the wipes are so dry and barely work. Big groups of teens gather and don’t have any regard for others space. Equipment is old and ratty. Just not a great experience overall.

Was my favorite gym until they began losing any and all consideration. I understand when a sign says “men working in locker room” but when I do an entire check of the locker room and no men are in there, I’m told (by staff keep in mind) that means there are no men in there and the sign was forgotten so safe to go in. So on three different occasions now, I do a full sweep, no men, then twice I’ve been topless and they walk in with no announcement. So are they done and forgot the sign or are they just walking in? No matter the sign- if they leave and then come back, an announcement should be made. A girl under the age of 18 was changing and two men walked in. She began to tear up out of fear because she too checked after seeing the sign and when no men were in there she felt safe to change. I’ve gone to staff and even offered “just yelling out before entering would be helpful” I’ve sent an email. Nothing changes. Has happened at three different locations. A sign should not mean free entry for over an hour in and out of the locker. Last location I went to- I take a client with a disability. I’m told she can’t be my guest to the gym. Why? I’ve taken clients with me before? So do you have staff who get to pick and choose which disability you let in?

This is my go place for group excersies and sauna. I used to love the swimming pool but the handicapped chair is rusting to the pool, and i dont want to guess when it has been deep cleaned... Management should pay more attention. Also people are never taking pre shower before going to the pool, it can be pretty gross experience. Machines are usually broken and not well maintained . Need much more attention on these parts, other than that the place is clean , and lots of friendly people going here.

I think for the price you pay for a 2nd tier gym (behind the Orange Theories of the world) you should reasonably expect that the equipment is functional....you won't get that at this LA. The treadmills and cardio equipment are aging and in disrepair. Went last weekend and 8 treadmills were non-operational of the ~20 they had. On top of it, crowded, all times of day which i guess is what they want by closing some of the other clubs down...think they would have more money for upkeep in this one, but guess not. Disappointing that a planet fitness can have better upkeep at $10 a month than LA can.

This club is filthy!! The mirrors in the classrooms are streaked and dirty with visible handprints on them everywhere. I set my towel next to my mat on the floor, and when I picked it up at the end of class after not using it at all, it looked as though it had been run over. It was filthy from simply sitting on the floor! The locker rooms and bathrooms are disgusting and smell terrible. Today however was the last straw… a staff member approached my husband and accused him of stealing attachment weights and stated that someone reported seeing them in his workout bag (which was sitting right next to my husband) My husband explained that he had been bringing these same weights with him for the past year and they were a gift from his wife. (I have the receipt). The staff member simply stared at him and no matter what my husband said to try and help him understand that he did not steal their weights, he continually repeated “we have been missing these weights for 2weeks”. This was offensive and humiliating! I’ve been a member since 2013 but am terminating my membership immediately.

I've been going to this gym for over a decade now and used to enjoy it, but the deferred maintenance has been building up big time lately. They spent probably over $100K renovating the gym with new paint, carpet, etc. last year, but now frequently used machines sit inoperable with "scheduled for service" signs on them for months. Just recently, BOTH cable crossover machines, probably the most popular weight lifting stations, have been broken for weeks with no signs of being repaired anytime soon. Unacceptable. I will be looking for another gym that has a pool as well, if anyone has any recommendations let me know.

I wanted to wait a full 3 months before writing a review. I think it’s important to have a full perspective before posting these things.
It’s an alright club. Sales staff are hit and miss but that’s just the job. The gym is clean for the most part. The machines are out dated. Most of the cable machines are broken or out of service. Seems it takes 2-3 weeks before they are fixed. Treadmills definitely have seen their last days.
I am curious as to how this would be the standard of an LA fitness in Carmel. The parking lot is an absolute disaster. Pot holes everywhere. The High schoolers are obnoxious and in full force by 5-6pm.
I’ve been going to this gym 5-6days a weeks since January. A lot of good people go to this gym. I will be making the switch to Crunch gym once they open. I believe that $30 a month will be better spent there.

Going downhill since the remodel. As of yesterday, 3 of the 8 cable stations are out of order. Not sure if they overextended on the remodel and can’t afford to fix stuff? Several of the machines, particularly the lay down leg curl machine, have cushions that are worn to the point of exposed foam.
99% of the people that work out here keep to themselves, but there are a handful who need to mind their own business. If I’m mid set with earbuds in, I don’t want someone interrupting me asking if I “want to get twice as much” out of what I’m doing. I want to listen to my audiobook and not be bothered.

The good: club is decent - has plenty of equipment and love that they have racquetball courts and a semi-heated lap pool. Long-time member and will continue going. The bad: some members are there to play dress up and even had to deal with a couple making out in the pool one night. Can't blame the club for stupid people but wish they would have put a stop to the nonsense. Couple other notes: they recently advertised upgrades in their clubs This location was not one of them. Treadmills specifically have seen their day and I run elsewhere because of it. Hard to understand how this is being ignored. Additionally, they closed one of their clubs in Keystone Ave without sufficient (if any) communication. A lot of people upset who had just purchased memberships with intent of using that as their main club.

I found this club to be a low end version of Lifetime fitness but poorly manage and full of drama. Unlike lifetime, this club does not value a positive client relationship. If you are looking for a low cost gym solution and can tolerate inconsistency in the management go for it. There are better options I am finding out there in the Indianapolis area I went back to Lifetime. Worth the extra cost for a better experience and not poorly managed.

The new updates are nice and additional equipment offers more ways to exercise. The layout changed a bit, but overall all the old equipments are still there. The older machines could use thorough cleanings as they are a bit dirty. There seems to be more staff onsite. Happy to be back!

I quit a couple months ago. The equipment was in terrible condition. The gym was dirty. Finding free weights between 5 and 50 pounds was a challenge. But, the final straw for me was the front desk staff. So incredibly rude!! Some of them actually gave me dirty looks when I walked in. After I quit, my friend and boyfriend also quit. I will be shocked if they are still open in a few years. I joined Carmel Planet Fitness a couple months ago. It is sooooooooo much better!

Had to go to thw Westfield gym because my home gym is closed for upgrading. As soon as I walked through the door the staff recognized me and greeted me by name (they were previously at the Carmel/Zionsville location). Was pleased see the club was clean and orderly. Keep up the good work Tyson, Drew, and Lydia.

My favorite LA fitness gyms. I moved out of state, I miss going to this location. Newly remodeled. Great staff. Tyson, Drew. A special shout out to Jesse, one of the best trainers I know. 😊 Great equipment, this is one of my favorites. Great for stretching hamstrings really beneficial to me.

MAJOR SCAM, especially your girl Lydia. She won’t be in if you need to get in contact with her and she won’t return your calls. You’ll get enrolled in a wild personal training contract whether you want to or not, so just toss them the $300/month when you walk in the door !! I can’t even imagine how many people they have taken advantage of. Hope this finds you well Lydia :)

Have been going here for almost 4 years. Enjoy it enough to keep coming back. The equipment seems to be failing more and more though. New low today though. Member appreciation, they brought in a DJ. Way too loud as I could barely hear the music coming out of my ear buds. If I want to hear loud dance music I will go to a club. Please stop.

The sales people are the worst. If decide to sign up for personal training definitely take the contract home and read over it even though they pressure you to sign it on the spot(especially if you are working with Lydia). What I was told and what was on the contract were completely different. I’m currently pregnant and they will not let me out of my contract even after I give birth. It’s ridiculous they expect to make me pay for sessions I won’t be able to attend.

Front desk employees always seem disgusted to see guests. I used to walk in with a smile, but not anymore since I’m always met with a look of disgust. Drew is the only person that doesn’t seem like a total d-bag. The gym is ALWAYS crowded and the main room is always dirty. Meatheads take over everything so there’s never any room to actually do anything. I was excited to start here, but I’m disappointed and looking for a new gym.

It has the equipment anyone needs to meet their fitness goals. Wouldn’t recommend this gym if you work out right after work (it get’s so busy the gym is practically unusable and I would rate it 1 star if I worked out at that time). But if you’re like me and enjoy early morning workouts then it’s great gym and I can use whatever equipment I need without waiting on someone. Whatever you do don’t do the free personal trainings sessions as it is basically just a hard sales pitch. Otherwise my experience has been great especially for my monthly payment. No mask requirements is actually a huge positive for me and glad they stayed open through Covid. EVENING WORKOUT PEOPLE BEWARE.

The facility and the equipment are nice, however, the staff here are terrible. They rarely greet or even acknowledge you, they do not spend time on the floor or manage the facility well, and they allow members to utilize multiple machines at once (leaving few machines for other members). The front desk staff were so incredibly rude, as if my presence was an inconvenience to them.
I waited to speak with them as they continued with a personal conversation, after a while I tried to grab their attention, they saw me and ignored it.
Finally in a raised voice called ‘Excuse me’. The two staff turned to face me, looked me up and down and and slow walked over whilst glaring at me the whole time.
Other staff (besides the desk) were polite and helpful.
I felt so unwelcome and frankly a little angry at the way I was treated, that I will not be returning.
Today was my first and last day.

I have been to 6 different LA Fitness locations in central IN and over my 15+ years as a member this is by far my favorite location. Everything is clean. Staff is amazing. I never once considered doing the training program until I spoke with Lydia, the Personal Training Director. She didn’t pressure me into doing anything, she asked me what I was trying to achieve, what my goals were, and showed me a path to achieving those goals thru their training program if I chose to do so. I have been pitched by dozens of trainers at different locations and not once did anyone show me they just cared about what I was trying to achieve, whether that meant using the training or not. Any other comment on this page slandering her or any other trainer at this location are salty people who didn’t get a free guest pass. Austin my trainer is unreal, same as Lydia, first session all he cared about was what I wanted to achieve and he tailored everything around that. I have lost 22 pounds and 5% body fat on less than 4 weeks. Love this gym and sincerely appreciate everyone in it.

Despite the fact that this gym is dirty and overcrowded, I was originally going to give it 2-3 stars for being cheap and conveniate. However, early today I asked them if they could put the Colts game on one of their TV's, and they refused to do so. Since most of the staff and management are rude and inconsiderate, I have decided to downgrade the rating to 1 star. Because is takes so much work to change the channel to Fox 59, way to think of your clients first.
Also, parking is terrible, the guys locker room has a flooded multiple times and most of the sinks seem to be clogged.
By far the worst gym in the area.
