Formal Complaint Regarding Mistreatment by Paul Appleman. I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding an incident that occurred during a recent visit to your location involving Paul Appleman, the instructor for the Arora Aqua class. I have been a loyal member of Lifetime for many years, and I was deeply disappointed by the unprofessional and dismissive behavior I experienced.

I was swimming in the lap pool when Paul Appleman, who was facilitating the Arora Aqua class, decided to turn up the volume significantly. The loud noise became disruptive, so I politely asked him if he could lower it slightly. To my dismay, Paul Appleman responded in a condescending tone, stating there was "nothing he could do" and dismissed me outright. This response, along with his dismissive attitude, was completely disrespectful and showed a total lack of regard for my concerns as a longtime member.

His behavior was not only unprofessional but also entirely dismissive of the fact that I was simply requesting a reasonable adjustment. This kind of treatment—especially from someone in a position of responsibility—makes members feel disrespected and undervalued, which is unacceptable in a facility that promotes a supportive and welcoming environment.

Additionally, I am concerned about the lack of management oversight at this location. I understand the previous manager has left, and the position is currently vacant, but this should not allow staff to act without accountability. The absence of a manager only further contributes to the lack of proper conduct and oversight within the facility.

Lifetime has always prided itself on providing a respectful and professional environment for all members, but this incident has caused me to question that commitment. I would appreciate your immediate attention to this matter and request that appropriate steps be taken to address Paul Appleman’s behavior, as well as to ensure that all staff maintain a respectful attitude toward members at all times.

I look forward to hearing from you regarding the actions you plan to take.

Sincerely,

S Ledwith

The lifetime I normally go to is under remodel. And let me start off by saying the staff at both are great always kind and on it. But I'm about ready to cancel and move on. The gym is strangely organized. But I can deal with that. But why do you have a class on Friday mornings with a handful of people in the middle of the gym. Its called Alpha and the only thing Alpha about it is the extremely loud instructor. I get classes but why don't they have over the ear heaphones for the instructor to talk to them. I'm not the only one who is irritated by it, just have a staff member walk around and ask during it like I did. I'll also say that the class in the treadmill area isn't like that, its not as loud and its softened by the walls. You would think the large classroom would be big enough to run a line of squat racks down it for the class. Unfortunately for us who have jobs that start at certain times we can't change to accomodate. So leaving is likely the only option.

At 11: 00am on Sat. Aug. 9th, I went to the front desk to ask a question. One of the two attendants clearly saw me, yet was busy texting on his phone. The other attendant was busy checking people in, but stopped that activity to answer my question. Also, the texting attendant didn’t have a problem pausing his texting to answer a woman’s question. Either personal phones should not be allowed at the front desk or they should be left under the counter, as this presents a poor image of Lifetime to its members.

I used to love this place as its the perfect location to where I live. I was going back in 2016 and lost a ton of weight here, loved it as it was 24/7 as well and I was paying $60 a month but left as I wasnt close anymore.

I joined again in Oct. 2024 at $99 a month and was happy enough, it wasnt 24/7 anymore and the basketball courts were gone for pickleball courts, which was a bummer. I added my wife to my account, but eventually she couldnt go. I asked back in may/early june about removing her and they stated I would be put at $110 a month so it would be cheaper for both if she stayed, i confirmed with her and asked about it again about 3 weeks later and now the price was at $120/mo.

It got me thinking that for what I use there, im just not using enough to justify this price and my insurance will discount other Gyms in the area. Its a real shame cause this place has helped change my life with weightloss twice in my life, but these price increases and reduced availability has soured the experience.

** Update** Of the last 6 weeks the lap pool has been more closed than open. On Monday June 30th they closed the lap pool at 8:45am because it had no chlorine and they were out of shock. At this point, it's pure neglect, fraud and incompetence.
T
he lap pool has now been closed for over 2 weeks and it's not even posted on the app or any notifications at all. When asked when it will be repaired, the answer I got was, "As soon as possible", but no indication of how long that will be. The lap pool is the ONLY reason I'm a member here. Since new management took over about a year ago it has been downhill overall. I'd love to hear from SOMEONE about recent shortcomings in service overall. I won't hold my breath though. Maybe it's time to replace the new general manager with one that actually shows up and cares about the club and members.

If you’re looking for a spot where folks feel like old neighbors who’d lend you a cup of sugar without a second thought, this might not be your scene. It’s more like stepping into a loud block party where everyone’s a stranger and the vibe’s a bit… unpredictable. Picture yourself stepping off at a place like MLK Boulevard, super sketch. If you prefer a quieter, high trust crowd that’s all on the same page, you might wanna steer clear.

Been couple months now at this location and I like the staff they really nice people. But today we got kicked out of the steam sauna at 10 pm really? I mean thanks for doing the maintenance but it’s gotta be at that times? 30 minutes before close sounds good to me it’s gotta be other times for maintenance even after close on Saturday and Sunday how about that?

I found this gym when I felt lost in the fitness world. The gym itself offers so many perks such as showers and hair dryers, sauna, pool (at castle creek) and a host of fitness classes and personal training. There’s plenty of space for people of all fitness levels to come and be comfortable hitting your goals. I do not have kids- but there is child care on site for both gyms and castle creek has pickleball courts.

I went expecting a “premium gym” experience with amenities like a sauna, steam room, and other nice features, but my expectations weren’t met at all. While the gym equipment selection is excellent, the overall cleanliness is lacking, and many areas feel a bit run-down. The pool area and locker rooms were not well-maintained, and even the fresh towels weren’t entirely clean. People were making phone calls and wearing gym clothes—including shoes—in the sauna! I won’t be returning.

By far the most I’ve spent on a gym membership, only went here for the amenities. They’re all good but you could drive 10 minutes towards Carmel and pay half the price for the same stuff. Still a great gym though, they have a lot of exclusive features for their gym. I give them that, overall good!

…im simply writing to give honest and kind advice- i just contacted your facility about membership information- the gentleman was talking to someone in the background and spoke with me in a fast paced manner- it was very evident he was in a rush- my concerns which weren’t of anything complex, just felt rushed and of unimportance- my advice would be that when a new possible member is calling, to simply get their information and contact them back if it’s not good timing- it just left an uneasy feeling and I ended the call no longer interested- just some advice ❤️

Filthy, rusty equipment, no basketball courts, poor management, and ridiculous fees. Towels are stained and torn. $139/month for 2 people. They even closed their Meridian Street location a couple years ago. You'd think that they would lower your rates after that, but instead they raised rates, then raised them again, and again. They also moved around all the machines, so now you are literally 5 feet away and staring a stranger right in the eyes as you work out. This place used to be great, but now it's a joke. I've moved to a new gym that is much better with lower rates. Any gym in the area is far superior to this one.

Title: A Reflection on Professionalism and Piety in Gym Attire

As a frequent visitor to our gym, I feel compelled to address an issue that has been increasingly evident: the lack of professionalism and piety in the clothing choices among some female gym goers. While the gym is a place for physical activity and fitness, it should also be a space where respect for oneself and others is upheld.

In other words choices among some is likened to a HOODRAT

Firstly, it's essential to acknowledge that gym attire should prioritize functionality and comfort. However, this does not mean sacrificing professionalism or disregarding modesty. Unfortunately, it's become all too common to see individuals wearing overly revealing or inappropriate clothing that leaves little to the imagination. This not only undermines the seriousness of the gym environment but also creates discomfort for others.

Furthermore, the gym is a public space where people of all ages and backgrounds come to pursue their fitness goals. As such, it's crucial to consider the diverse community present and dress in a manner that respects everyone's sensibilities. Clothing choices that are excessively revealing or provocative can make others feel uncomfortable and detract from the inclusive atmosphere that should prevail in a gym setting.

Additionally, displaying a lack of piety in clothing choices can be seen as disrespectful to oneself and others. While everyone has the freedom to express themselves, it's important to do so in a manner that reflects dignity and self-respect. This includes being mindful of the message conveyed through one's attire and recognizing the impact it may have on others.

In conclusion, I urge fellow gym goers to reconsider their clothing choices and strive for a balance between functionality, modesty, and respect. By upholding professionalism and piety in our attire, we can contribute to a more positive and inclusive gym environment where everyone feels comfortable and respected.

Let's work together to promote a culture of respect and mindfulness in our gym community.

Subject: Advocating for Privacy: Concerns Regarding Video Taping or Live Streaming in Public Gyms

I have observed fellow gym members openly recording videos during my workouts, and this raises concerns as it feels like an invasion of my privacy.

I am writing to express my concerns and advocate for the prohibition of video taping or live streaming in public gyms. While technology offers numerous benefits, it also raises significant privacy issues that warrant careful consideration.

**Concerns:**

1. **Invasion of Privacy:** Video taping or live streaming in public gyms raises the potential for an invasion of personal privacy. Members may feel uncomfortable knowing that their workouts are being recorded without their explicit consent.

2. **Security Risks:** The collection of video footage poses security risks, as it could be vulnerable to hacking or unauthorized access. Protecting the personal data of gym members should be a top priority.

3. **Body Image and Confidence:** Being on camera during workouts may negatively impact individuals' self-esteem and body image. Many gym-goers use the gym as a safe space to work on their fitness goals without external judgment.

4. **Consent Challenges:** It is challenging to ensure that everyone in a gym space consents to being recorded or streamed. An opt-out system might not be sufficient to guarantee everyone's comfort and agreement.

**Recommendations:**

1. **Strict No-Recording Policy:** Enforce a strict no-recording policy within gym premises, emphasizing the importance of respecting members' privacy and fostering a comfortable workout environment.

2. **Clear Communication:** Ensure that gym members are well-informed about the prohibition of video taping or live streaming through clear signage and communication. This will help manage expectations and create a safer atmosphere.

3. **Alternative Solutions:** Explore alternative ways to leverage technology for member engagement and education without compromising privacy, such as fitness apps, online tutorials, or virtual classes with participants' consent.

In conclusion, prioritizing members' privacy and comfort should be at the forefront of gym management decisions. Prohibiting video taping or live streaming helps maintain a secure and respectful environment, encouraging members to pursue their fitness goals with confidence and peace of mind.

Been going here for so long I can’t remember when I first joined. Best selection of gym equipment in the area. The place is clean, maybe a little dated (hallway area). Kid’s center seems very nice, and rather expansive with an outside play area during the summer. I do miss the basketball courts though, but pickle ball seems a lot more popular these days. Pool area is wonderful, but I wish they had the water slides open more often, they were so fun! Whirlpools are great as well, probably my favorite part of the pool area. Good amount of extra pool equipment available and lifeguards always on duty. Would recommend.

Price point is high but has everything you’d expect from a gym of this caliber.

Only con for me is that the weightlifting platforms with bumper plates and squat racks are limited to 4 and a decent amount of the barbells on the platforms are bent; if you’re doing any serious weightlifting this will be a problem and / or injury concern.

General population should love this gym and its amenities. If you’re looking to seriously practice olympic style weightlifting on a flexible schedule you’d be better off at Vasa or Crunch (when Crunch eventually opens)

I used to come here almost on a daily basis with my parents when I was a kid- great for families, tons of amenities and everything is always overall very clean and well-kept. I got a day pass over the weekend since I haven't been in about 10 years and wanted to check out some of the new updated amenities. I travel a lot and this is the closest thing I can find in the entire state to a Korean-style jimjilbang (spa), which is such a treat if you've never experienced one. Here are my key takeaways:

Pros:

I LOVE the eucalyptus steam room in the women's locker room, the lap pool, the upstairs area with up-to-date cardio equipment and stretching areas. The Life Cafe has a ton of healthy options for post-workout recovery which I love.

Cons:
The hot tubs were nice but could have been a little hotter in my opinion.

The dry sauna: I *really* dislike how the sauna is co-ed. It's a weird vibe trying to sit and relax when you're the only woman in there surrounded by a bunch of dudes talking really loudly and grunting/doing push ups on the floor. Like what. Please consider adding them to the locker rooms instead. Or separating them by men's/women's.

Noticing that any review having to do with them totally getting rid of ALL of their basketball courts for pickle ball courts, doesn’t even garner one of their cookie cutter replies. WHY would you replace a sport that you only need yourself to get a workout in for a sport you need at least two ppl for? It’s an idiotic decision at best. I’ve been coming since I was in high school and now I’m 34yrs old and never thought I’d see the day that in an Indiana “basketball country” work out facility would opt to get rid of ALL of their basketball courts for ALL pickle ball courts? lol like why not take half? I’m sure they did this to attract a different more affluent clientele. This was definitely a “higher up” pressure on the local management. On a more positive note the staff are nice and emenities like the sauna and 2 large hot tubs, can’t be beat any where else at the moment, but it’s concerning to think they are capable of removing basketball. what will they remove next. Attached are the new pickle ball courts lol If you’re a pickle ball player have fun lol

I was a loyal customer to Lifetime paying almost $100\monthly. It came a moment where I couldn’t afford to make payments anymore. I went in and sat down with a rep and canceled my membership in Sept. 2021. I was sad to leave the eucalyptus sauna and the nice pool area, but I needed to make some changes. I left and never returned. I’m checking my account for taxes in Nov. 2022 and gathering up all my expenses and notice I had a charge from LIFETIME. I took a moment to see how far these charges went back and and it went 12 months almost to the day! I was surprised and completely confused. I immediately called customer service and claimed fraud on my account. I explained everything to them and they told me that they have a change to my account in September but it wasn’t a cancellation! I said that must be a mistake. After going back THROUGH MY ENTIRE history at this gym club they could see that I had never visited AFTER that cancellation I made on Sept! The rep UNBEKNOWNST to me changed my membership instead of canceling it. That’s fraud! I asked for some kind of compensation or using the gym for the $1000 dollars that I have paid to the gym for a YEAR AND NEVER stepping foot into the gym. They denied. I’m HURT. This is a MAJOR GYM BRAND. And to handle a customer like they’re just another number and not a human being! You took money from me. I’ve tried explaining. I truly do not need a refund but a 6 month comp or 3 month comp or something for the money they fraudulently took. Nothing they could do. Why? Truly would it hurt your conglomerate to have compassion for a loyal customer. What do we truly mean to this club? It’s almost like a big bully company , taking and having no deceny to look at the facts and make a decent decision to say, “ we’re human we understand” I feel helpless and that’s why I’ve turned to this platform. Pls be careful and check your accounts if you’ve cancelled their membership. You possibly could still be getting charged. Unfortunately I can’t refer this gym club to any of my trainer friends because they do not care about theirs members like their policy and principles state.

Poor leadership and lack of organization! Second time in 4 - 5 months this happened!

I just come to swim in the pool, I have never been in the second floor. Today, at 3 PM I was told to come out of the pool because they have no lifeguards. I was in the middle of my main set. I was not allowed to cool down even 100 yards, because the lifeguard finished his shift and he had to go. By the way, this was completely unannounced just because LT is not an organized facility.

Manager on duty showed up and explained the situation and when I asked at what time another lifeguard was going to show up the answer was “we are working diligently to solve the situation”. It is already 3:456PM!

Yes, I joined Lifetime back in 2008 in AZ, I don’t know now but at that time that LT was a place very we’ll managed and the facilities were kept way above average gym.

I cannot say the same about LT Castle Creek. Although most concierges are polite and courteous and try to be helpful, most times, they solve nothing. Also, you can see a lot of personnel turnover what brings me to my main point: Poor leadership and lack of organization!

This is a corporate business not a family owned business!

Accountability starts at the top!

UPDATE! NOVEMBER 20th 2022 7:45

It seems management is incapable to solve the “lifeguard” issue. Of course no change will come from keeping the same individuals as managers!

By the way, yes they replied back to the post, but they do nothing! Issues won’t be solve.

Does anyone (we are not asking anyone from management at LT Castleton) have any suggestions or know a place near Carmel, Noblesville, Fishers, where you could lap swim regularly without this constant unannounced
Pool closings?

Thank you in advance!

UPDATE DECEMBER 12th 7:10 PM
Once again when I was about to start swimming the lifeguard approached me and told me she was leaving and there was no other lifeguard coming tonight so the pool was closed.

Also, if you plan to come and swim, I hope that you’ll be lucky to find the pool open. Advice: please bring your own towel! The ones you see, when you go and open them, they are all STAINED! Wonder if there are some healthy issues we also have to address!

I wish I could rate higher as the staff is amazing.

However, this is not only the worst LifeTime I have been too but it is below the quality I would expect from a LA Fitness or Planet Fitness.

It is OBVIOUS that Management somehow bonuses off of lack of $$ put into the center from the level of disregard put into maintaining this facility.

The steam room REEKS of mold..

Tiles throughout the location are cracked, broken and missing.

I travel the country often and utilize Lifetime locations abroad but when I come to Indiana every month I DRED coming here. I am considering a local membership to avoid this. You sign up to a company like this for CONSISTENCY. I am appalled to see things like conditioner...Q-tips....mouthwash..and a list of feminine items for my lady not being stocked here. It's the ONLYA LOCATION I have ever experienced this. It's honestly a JOKE.

I have spoken with staff and they all say the same thing.... Kenny Scott...

He has zero respect from his TEAM or members. He should be EMBARRASSED for the way this location looks and is maintaining...or not maintaining...

You are welcome to reach out to me, this is neglect and inexcusable. I would question anyone in corporate letting this man run a club. This is by far the WORST representation of a brand I hold Iin HIGH regard. It's EMBARRASSING.

The club is nice, it offers a whole ton of options to work out: classes, small group classes, private one-on-one sessions, free weights and so forth. The customer service has its ups and downs though. Some of the staff are very friendly, while others are found lacking. In this one case, I asked a simple question, and this tall blond guy named Cameron was very rude. This came as a shock because usually everyone is very nice.

I been coming here a long time and quality has all but gone here. They have 2 big hot tubs and they cant keep 1 going at a time. Twice in the past week they where both closed so I came in early since they started shutting down to get they gym ready at night. Nope they where both closed this morning.

My son has a full time job It lifetime fitness in Castleton I’ve worked out several times they’re very clean up-to-date equipment and staff are very friendly! I love the fact that they have a sauna and a steam room not too many gyms have both they always forget about the steam which is good for skin and hair. The swimming pool is huge and the outdoor pool is great for family with the water slide great place to be a part of!

This is directed more at visitors than monthly members. I am in town for several weeks and came in to inquire about the rate. The first time I walked in to a Lifetime Fitness, it was last fall in Franklin, Tennessee and it was lovely. Over time, I’ve seen that they are not all the same. I also received a free pass in Franklin to try it for a day. At this Lifetime (and maybe all now), it’s $30 for a day visit. I was initially shown a rate sheet that showed $95 for two weeks but only after working out briefly was I told that those rates are no longer in effect. It was explained to me that I’d have to pay approximately $125 for two weeks. After working out there and seeing the facility, it was okay but not something I’d spend that much for. And opposed to other facilities, the sauna is central and coed. There was a gentleman literally covered in tattoos from the neck down (just descriptive because I have a few small tats myself) who came into the sauna blasting his music on his phone out loud disturbing the peace for everyone. If this (the loud music instead of ear buds) is what is tolerated in that club, I’m not interested in using the sauna. And I like to use the sauna daily. Fortunately, I was able to get a free day and I declined paying over $100 to return. I have a membership with LA which will suffice and won’t have to share the sauna outside of the women’s locker room.

This place was a great place to go to when prices were at a decent rate they have doubled almost triple some of these prices which is ridiculous considering the location and that nothing has changed within that matter 100 bucks a month hours have dropped from 24 hours to a matter of 17 hours lockers are scarce parking spaces are horrible and I feel that they're overcharging everyone for the construction that was being done at the time of shutdown or due to the fact of covid I really used to love being at this gym but I guess it's time to go to LA fitness or somewhere else just to get a serious workout in. Bye bye. It's a shame when the gym that was once really good at pricing for the community has basted around just money and money alone they used to care about the customers That's completely out of the window now.

I've been going to Life Time since 2017 and it's becoming such a love-hate relationship. They have dramatically reduced the hours from being 24/7 and continue to raise prices without enhancing the facility in any fashion. Today I got an email stating they are bringing up the prices $10 further due to "continuous rising costs in all areas of business."

It's sad there isn't another higher-end gym in Indy because I would probably switch at this point.

A great gym with more than enough amenities. It has a whirlpool, sauna, indoor lap pool and wading pool with water slide as well as an outdoor pool. Plenty of gym equipment, basketball courts, and a climbing wall. Has daycare and fitness events and plenty of personal trainers. Great place to focus on working out.

I use this gym mostly because of the peace of mind I get while my children are in the child care center. My 8 year old son has autism and I was worried about him being alone in there. The staff ALWAYS makes sure he is okay and having fun and take the extra time to tell me exactly how he did while I was working out. Phillip is especially great every time I come in.

Great club. They recently changed all their plates for new once and I believe the donated the older plates, very cool.
I think they are falling behind in some maintenance, my wife and I have seen a few bikes and treadmills that could use some. This is for a small amount of interactions that we have had. Overall it has a fantastic gym.

Great facilities and plenty of equipment. The only real issue I've experience are the obvious 'guest pass' crowd not respecting the club rules or respecting other people's space. The guys who scream while lifting (are also always the type that harass women) are the worst offenders, as soon as a Lifetime employee hears someone screaming while lifting, they should ask them to quiet down or ask them to leave.

Great location and great for families with kids but needs to get it back together now that people are getting back in the swing of things.

Inconsistent hours in the kids area and pool due to staffing. Wife and I come with the kids and one of us has to stay with them because you can’t rely on day care or pool lately.

Super frustrating but either get it together soon or we will go save a ton of money and go back to la fitness or another gym since we aren’t getting what we are paying for with lifetime fitness.

I’d like to leave a good review for a lifeguard named Deliah. The other day after I was swimming I noticed her scrubbing the stairs to the hot tubs. That’s not something I have typically seen lifeguards do. She was finding something that needed to be done and taking care of it rather than just putting in her time.
I’ve been a member for a lot of years and am happy with the gym.
