This place is great! Matt and his whole team are super knowledgable and encouraging. I don't feel like I'm getting my butt kicked too bad during the work out, but always feel it the next day! It's a perfect balance of the benefits of one-on-one personal training with the affordability of small group training. Can't speak highly enough of them!

I am a 68 year old female who has worked at a very sedentary job for decades. Knowing I wanted to make a positive change in my physical and mental health, I decided to try MOVE. Although I was initially apprehensive about putting myself out there, I was pleasantly surprised how welcoming Matt and his gym and the members make me feel. It is just very low key, simple movements, but make no mistake, Matt pays attention to EVERYTHING! 😉

RESULTS.
I love Move Bloomington. This is the only workout program I've ever been able to stick to for any length of time. Matt is a highly skilled professional and he and his team make workouts fun. It's also a great community as everyone is there to work on themselves, not compete with anyone or show off. But the bottom line is the results. Photos from 2024 - January, April, September, December

An amazing gym to go to no matter what level you are at in Experience!!! All of the personal trainers are so friendly and truly care about you and your goals!!! They offer small group training which still feels personal but also cheap!! It isn’t the same workouts week to week, which helps to make it such a fun and varied experience every week! Highly Recommended!!!

I’ve been working with Matt for about a year and cannot say enough good things. In the last year, I can tell that my balance is noticeably better, I’m stronger, and I simply feel better. I’m grateful to Matt and Move Bloomington for making each and every day better than the last.

I'm very glad I found Move Bloomington. When the pandemic hit my gym activity came to a complete halt... and I hit the struggle bus. Add in some job stress, sitting too long at a computer and a variety of other things and I needed some help.
Not only does Move Bloomington offer classes for fitness, but also some great one-on-one stretching sessions as well. I struggle with neck pain from a car accident, but after three stretching sessions the pain is minimal.
The workouts are purposeful and adaptable - so a beginner and an expert can break a sweat side-by-side. The trainers offer personalized instruction and make the workout enjoyable. Everything is clean and cleaned - the staff make sure every experience is a good one.
Pricing allows for a mix of independent workouts with personal training - a great compromise for everyone.
Matt and his team are focused on the client experience, and it shows every time I enter the door. I'm glad I made the effort to come in and I can see and feel the progress.

Welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. Motivation without uncomfortable pressure. I've been working out at Move for a little over a year, and I am really excited about my progress-strength, balance and overall fitness. It is the best fitness experience I've had, and that's allowed me to stick with it. Highly recommend!

As an athlete, registered dietitian, and former certified personal trainer, I am super picky about who I trust with fitness. Move Bloomington is top-notch in their approach to… well everything! Matt is incredibly knowledgeable and able to meet the needs of everyone who walks in the door.
TLDR: Go to this gym!
The Workouts
Each week there are 3 different workouts. They focus on strength, stability, and functional movement. I cannot say enough good things about their design and how much I appreciate each being evidence based and supported by science. The sets, reps, speed, and structure are thoughtfully planned to optimize proper strength building. No need to nerd out about this if it isn’t your thing. The workouts will feel challenging, varied and engaging.
A warm-up starts each session with stretching at the end. Matt does a great job asking if there are any specific areas that need extra attention, and providing stretches accordingly. With sessions limited to 4 participants, you get all the attention needed during your workout. Move utilizes the Fustionetics App, for personalized exercises to do at home, if you wish.
The Space
The gym is conveniently located, with plenty of parking. It is always clean and tidy, with equipment perfectly organized. Move has the basics- a wide range of weights, mats, foam rollers, and then so many extras! Much more than currently pictured on Google. Water weights, stability boards, training sticks, etc provide depth/challenge a normal gym cannot and mix-up the exercises.
Scheduling
It's super easy to schedule classes! I “set-it and forget it” by auto enrolling and showing up at the same times each week. It only takes a few seconds to reschedule or skip. I can see who is leading the session, how many spots there are, and plan weeks in advance. I can schedule recovery/stretching sessions, and adjust my subscription in the same app.
Approach
Move Bloomington really is built for everyone. I would feel comfortable bringing anyone from my grandmother to my most competitive and athletic friends. The focus is not on weight loss or burning calories (though it is totally fine to have those as goals!). Instead, strength, functionality, and longevity are the top priorities here. With no mirrors or scales, Move focuses on what will make a difference for how you feel and perform in the long run.
Investment
Move Bloomington is very reasonably priced for what it is. What it is not is an Orange Theory or Anytime Fitness. Matt and his team are able to personalize everything. They keep track of the weights you use, progress, and assist in setting up/tearing down for workouts. It is not an experience you are able to get in a large studio setting.
My Experience
I’ve been a cyclist/runner for the majority of my life. It took me years to start strength training past basic core and get to the gym. I became a Certified Personal Trainer out of curiosity and continued to incorporate what I learned in my routines. Unfortunately, I ended up needing surgery in 2020 and after a long road to recovery, I was able to get back in the saddle and to lifting. I’ve had some continued fear of being reinjured and its been challenging getting into a consistent routine.
I was looking for a change and joined Move on a whim. I am so glad I did! Matt connected with me, spent time understanding my needs, and completed a movement assessment. I felt right at home my first session and was left shocked at how much I got out of it with such individualized
feedback. I was hooked! Each time I learn something new, feel challenged, and gain strength.
Matt- The Owner
It is evident Matt is not only incredibly knowledgeable, but cares deeply about every client, their experience and their goals. He is always available via text and is very willing to work with you/be flexible. Move Bloomington is a carefully thought out gym, which fills a void in the Bloomington market and is a refreshing change from which anyone could benefit.
PS I don’t know Matt personally, or have any stake in Move Bloomington. I’m just a very happy client!

Everything has been great about working with Matt and his team! Exercising at Move Bloomington has helped me find muscles that I forgot about years ago. They are very conscious about making sure you don’t injure yourself. I have spine/back pain, and they work on getting the form correct, so I don’t get those things nowadays. Everyone who is a client there has been a delight to work with too. Special shoutout to Ethan, Emma, and Averie, who work there! (And Matt too!)

I was an athlete and power lifter many years ago and had become out of shape along with the usual wear and tear and age concerns. I felt I needed more support and motivation than the usual gym would give and also wanted someone who used proper technique and worked safely with my limitations. Matt and Move Bloomington were recommended by my physician as a trainer who would work with my goals and physical limitations in a safe manner to progressively increase fitness, strength, and balance while avoiding injury. I can say that after 4 months with Move I am very happy with my progress and the care I’ve received. The program is challenging, the instruction including adaptations tailored to my abilities (even in the group sessions), and the schedule is available to fit nearly any time I need. If you are looking for a personalized, safe, workout environment check MOVE and Matt out!

I can’t say enough good things about Matt and Move Bloomington. I went on a whim with a friend and have been going religiously every since!
Move Bloomington is a very welcoming space. Most gyms I have walked in feeling intimidated, not here! Matt takes the time to get to know you and ensures you have a good experience!
Matt is very knowledgeable in his field. His knowledge makes you feel confident that you are doing the exercises correctly! My back is grateful and has never felt better:)
While Matt is very knowledgeable, he is also fun and kind! He makes getting up early in the morning to workout easy and something you actually look forward to! I highly recommend Move Bloomington!

This week I celebrated my first year at Move Bloomington. As I reflect back over the year, I’m amazed at the difference a year has made in my fitness, self-confidence and overall health. And what’s better, none of it feels like work. My sessions have been challenging (but not too challenging) and they are fun because each session is different than the first one. And the trainers are positive and encouraging each step of the way.
One of their claims is they “meet you where you are” and it’s true. First steps are talking about the services they offer and what the client is wanting to achieve in their workouts. I’m in a mature (senior “ish”) age group and my goals were to improve my balance, core strength, flexibility, and functional strength and over the last year I’ve made significant improvements in each area. Each workout builds on the last workout. When I started, box jumps were never included in my workouts. But we’ve worked up to doing box jumps. They aren’t very high for me, but it’s something I never thought I would be able to do. Right now, I’m struggling a bit with piriformis syndrome and today’s workout addressed those issues. When they say they “meet you where you are”, they mean it.
I also greatly appreciate the focus on form. Proper form is important for each move in a workout, but it’s also important in everyday life. My posture has improved and my daily activities, such as dog walks are easier and more comfortable. Move Bloomington has been one of the best investments I’ve made; the rewards exceeded my expectations.

When I started working with Matt at Move Bloomington (MB) over a year ago I was having trouble with balance due to an injury. It’s been over 8 months since I’ve had a fall largely due to MB.
I hate exercise and the general ambiance of a gym, since I am a lifelong nerd. I do not thrive in a competitive atmosphere. But MB is a friendly place and the staff are delightful and caring. We have such great conversations I forget I am exercising. And the workouts are designed just for me to address my physical challenges and keep me improving. This place is truly a luxury.
That’s not to suggest that the MB team can’t design a great workout for anyone - I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend MB to a professional athlete or a grandmother.
The staff really know what they are doing and make it worthwhile to train with them. Lovely people, excellent practice, we’ll worth the cost, highly recommended.

Move Bloomington genuinely cares about their clients and listens to their movement needs, wants, and goals. They have worked with me to assess how I'm moving, my areas of weakness, and put together a plan to get me back to feeling and moving my best. I used to suffer with debilitating back pain, but Move Bloomington has kept me pain free for over 3 years now. That 3 year period included a pregnancy where I was able to continue moving my body in a safe, joyous, and pain free way all the way until the birth of my son.
Move Bloomington has a wide range of equipment in their facility which means no two workouts are ever the same. They also have a unique offering in Frederick Stretch Therapy that I’ve recently taken advantage of. It has proven to have so many benefits - quicker recovery, better sleep, and I feel it has honestly improved my workouts and running. I took a year off from running after the birth of my son, but because I continued my workouts with Move Bloomington and started to incorporate the stretch therapy, I was able to pick back up running 3 miles within a 1 month period - this blew my mind!
If you want trainers who truly care about helping you move and feel your best, and not just about a number on the scale, I highly recommend you reach out to Move Bloomington. Your body will thank you for it!

Move Bloomington is a phenomenal place to workout and achieve your fitness goals. I feel supported, challenged, and encouraged each and every workout. Matt and Alayna both listen to my needs and design a custom workout, alongside explaining technique and form. I never feel ashamed or embarrassed to ask questions if I do not understand. MoveBloomington is inclusive, supportive, and most importantly- FUN. I thoroughly enjoy my time spent here. It's become the highlight of my week.

I found Matt when I first moved to Bloomington in the fall of 2021! I had no idea what to do when it came to strength training, so I reached out for personal training, and I am so glad I did!
He & Alayna are so kind, supportive and create a fun and safe environment to be in. I absolutely love working with them and can't wait to be back in the fall to see them again

I have been with MoveBloomington for over a year now and have nothing but good things to say about my experience. Matt explained everything about his approach and process clearly in a phone interview. Next step was an in-person assessment, discussion of my personal goals and how they aligned with his approach. Financial options were clearly explained and there was no “sales pressure” to decide immediately or sign on the dotted line. He is 100% client focused. All good providers say “this is YOUR class” but he actually practices that philosophy, answering every question (and I have many😊) patiently and with as much elaboration as I want. I particularly liked his refusal to take clients whose main goal is weight loss, as he’s seen it fail too many times. I hasten to mention that I have lost 25 pounds during the last year through healthy eating but this has never been the focus of our workouts.
His focus IS long term health and wellness. I have have gained strength, flexibility and balance during the last year. One important goal for me was improving my aging posture and I have accomplished this goal. This has given me greater confidence to keep up an active lifestyle including travel. I am 74 and am looking at staying as healthy as possible for as long as possible as my job for the rest of my life. Matt’s workouts have been a big and successful part of that effort.
Lastly, the workouts are FUN! Matt always comes prepared with workouts that are increasingly challenging, designed to meet my goals, and interesting. He is continuously learning himself (completing a massage therapy program this summer), while being professionally active through teaching and attending conferences, and increasing options with new pieces of equipment.
I cannot recommend Move Bloomington highly enough. If you want a research driven, comprehensive approach to building a better body, this is the place to be!
