Today, 7th January is the third time I've turned up to the gym to find it closed. For people who like to workout 1st thing in the morning it's incredibly frustrating to get here as I have and 5 other cars in the car park have to find nobody has turned up again to open up. It wastes our time and throws our routine out. Need to do better keeping open and getting your staff to open up on time.

** UPDATE.....Sunday 12th January, 25 minutes after they are supposed to open we are again sitting in the car park unable to get in, waiting for somebody to come with a key to the building. Absolute joke and again waste of time. I'm going to be looking for a new gym now as this is completely unacceptable.

** Update 28th February 2025 sitting in the car park again as nobody has shown up to open the gym

** UPDATE 6th March 2025 and here we are again, sitting in the car park, lights out nobody has come to open up again

**UPDATE 6th April 2025 Sunday morning sitting outside the locked gym in the parking lot again. No lights on, nobody bothered coming to work again

UPDATE 8th May 2025 Again the lights are off as nobody has bothered to turn up to open up and us paying customers are left sitting in the car park unable to train wondering why we are paying for this.
On a side note every time I've complained about the club not opening on their website I've requested a callback from the manager I've never received one so I think that goes a long way in showing just how little they care about it.

UPDATE: 5th June 2025 again the lights off and nobody opened up. Called the manager to open, he lives an hour away. Currently 1 hour past opening and stood out in the rain unable to train. Only waiting here now to speak to the manager in person. Don't waste your time joining here

UPDATE 23 September, after a pretty good run again the gym hasn't opened, sitting in the car park unable to train

UPDATE 12 October 2025 Sunday morning waiting in the car again...hasn't openeded, apparently the person opening is running around 30 minutes late after a member text them...people leaving again, just the usual

UPDATE 17 October 2025 It was too good to be true...after 4 days of being open on time the streak has come to an end....nobody has opened up again, cars leaving the parking lot, manager not answering his phone and another workout lost

UPDATE November 12 2025 nobody has opened the gym again. If ever anyone was in doubt about how frequently this happens hopefully this running blog helps

The best part about this gym is the employees. They are always friendly and work hard to keep the facility clean. They are very welcoming and say hello and goodbye which is a simple gesture that goes a long way. They always ensure that the paper towels and cleaners are stocked and that the floors are spotless. I also want to make sure Jeff gets credit for all of his hard work. I see him here all the time and always makes me motivated to workout and puts a smile on my face. If a machine is out of order, it gets fixed very quickly. The gym is always adding more machines and allows for a perfect workout no matter which muscle group you are targeting. I highly recommend coming here for those reasons and that the environment is so friendly. I wish I could rate higher than 5/5 stars.

I love the workout equipment here. It’s worth the price and a good fit for beginner gym-goers, plus the tanning bed and hydro-massage are wonderful perks of being a black card member. However, staffing needs a lot of work. There should not be 20-30 minute periods where there is not a single associate available at the front desk, or anywhere to be found in the entire facility. Trash cans should not overflow with paper towels and empty cans and bottles. And I would really like to see this gym be 24/4 again.

Planet Fitness charged me twice in January and applied a late fee in February, even though there was plenty of money in my bank account to cover the payment. Additionally, the Planet Fitness app showed an overdue balance of $24.99. I spoke with the Carmel PF manager and sent my payment record, but I haven't received any updates since February 25.

For your information, I also called ABC Finance, the third-party company working with PF, and they confirmed that my home gym charged me twice.

By far the worst planet fitness location I’ve been to in the county. Small, cramped, and lacking a plethora of basic equipment. The cherry on top is they frequently close early with no warning. Advertised as open until 9-10 pm but frequently closes at 5 pm or earlier. This location badly needs a new location or a new owner. Truly shocking how poor management runs this location. If you are local to Carmel, I advise you to choose any other gym.

If you are considering this gym (which you shouldn’t) you should know that they make it super easy to sign up and as difficult as possible to quit (to the point where I’d consider these anti consumer practices). You have to go to the location you signed up at to quit (even though all they do is scan your membership and press a few buttons to cancel less than 5 min later, definitely could cancel anywhere but they choose to make you come back to a specific one) and you have to quit 8 days before or more (which also makes no sense given there is no clean up or prep that needs to be done and this is equivocal to cancelling a YouTube subscription - so they have purposely set up their system this way) or they will try to bill you again for the next month - which is definitely not enforceable if anyone were actually to take them to court and sue over them forcing people to pay for another month but they are banking on everyone deeming it not worth the money and time over $15-25. Very concerning. Planet fitness is a horrible franchise through and through. Definitely consider and try out every other gym before them.

To management there; if this were as it should be and you weren’t trying to force another month on me then I was considering still using you guys in the future. Now, I will never consider your gym again and I will advocate against it to everyone I know.

I've been going to this gym for years. I like it because it's close to my home but this is the second time in 2 weeks the gym hasn't been open when I arrive. It was recently just opened back up to be 24/5. I waited in the parking lot until about 5:30am and there was still no one there to open it. This is a huge inconvenience for me and the other morning folks and honestly it's completely unacceptable. I guess I need to call the gym before I waste my time driving there?

Mold in showers. DIRTY over all. Sure it is easy to miss because of the colors that don't show it well. In a very nice neighborhood where you should expect a bit more it deserves -5 stars. The water in the shower was warm for approximately 2 minutes. The ice cold. Shower heads are a joke!!! The whole place is dirty.
I would be happy to have management contact me about the specifics but I do not work for free.

I come to this Planet Fitness whenever I am in town from Chicago to visit Carmel. This club is always super clean and the equipment is functional and up to date. I had an exceptional experience recently with Gary and Sam at the front desk. My airpod had fallen out and into the stairmaster I was using. They each came over to take apart the machine and help me get my airpod. Sam recovered it while Gary helped hold up and reassemble the machine. They took way more time and effort to help me than what was expected. Very nice!

Update 2024

Still a nice place and a very good value but the new equipment is significantly WORSE than the old equipment. It is wobbly with extra large screens that do not include any content and only serve to obstruct your view. The elliptical machines are now squished together under the skylight so I avoid them on a sunny day.

Also, there always seems to be problems that take forever to be resolved. ie. there was no or inconsistent hot water for months

Male locker room showers have been out of commission for almost a month, with a sign saying it will be fixed soon for the same amount of time, with no update currently. When I asked a worker about it I got an eye roll and a “sorry we don’t know”. I’ve had to alter my workout routine because of this, and I’m sure I’m not the only one whose routine and goals have been completely thrown out of wack by this. My recommendation is to stay away from this gym for the time being if showering at the gym after your workout is a must.

I like being a Black card member at Planet fitness, but some gyms that I visit when I travel are below planet fitness standards. The equipment in their circuit workout area is outdated and needs maintenance. I didn't get a very good workout at this facility. My recommendation is to update the equipment.

If your idea of going to the gym is not to train, but to sit around whilst on your phone, then this is the perfect environment for you. This place is a safe haven for scrollers, texters, FaceTime freaks, influencers and any one who spends more time on their phones than exercising.

Each Gender has their own speciality of non workout activity:

Men: Complete a full set of Reps and then 3 minutes texting and choosing workout emojis.

Women: Start exercise, complete 1 rep, start videoing fans, then complete 1 rep, continue with video and repeat cycle until exercise is complete.

These people can always be found on popular / high demand equipment i.e. Smith machines. They are experts at hogging the unit for hours, only to be replaced by another full time texter.

No point in complaining to staff at check in either. They either too busy on their phones or not paid enough to interrupt people busy texting.

I use PF all over the country and they are all the same. This brand should change from being the 'no judgement' zone to 'No danger of a workout zone'

Anyone vaguely interested in a half decent workout, should try any other gym than Planet Fitness or go at 3 in the morning.

P.s. Should Planet Fitness read this and sort this issue countrywide, it would probably be the best gym chain for the money. Shame that this problem is part of PF's business model.

Machines are old but during non peak hours are typically open. There is like one or two people that hog the machines and never clean after they use them and apparently staff is not able to say anything to them. Most of the staff here is very happy and helpful. There are one or two that you feel like you are bothering there phone time whenever you ask for assistance.

Air quality at this location is now the worst in this area. Humidity is always high and that I’m sure is contributing to the significant odor issues. I go to Planet Fitness’s all over this country and the severity of the problem is not normal. Also never see any other locations with Thermostat readings of 72*+ in the winter (68-70*). Lockers are dirty inside and out. Equipment is in good shape still.

Decent place to work out if you can get there early enough to access the machines you need to hit your numbers/goals. Workers are friendly, attentive, and helpful when needed.

Turn around on machine repair/replacement is unacceptable, though. A few of these machines have been wearing these signs for about a month and in already crowded environment, having available equipment is essential. Wasn't particularly busy when I took the photos, but when it's crowded, it can become a problem.

They just sit on their phones and dont interact. I quit a couple weeks ago and joined the YMCA at Westfield and 86th street and WOW. Talk about a real gym with so many amenities. Planet Fitness took the Walmart approach to business after Covid and said “Na, we’re not going to do 24 hrs anymore because then we would have to pay an entire night shift.” They don’t care about people who work second or third shift anymore… can’t wait for a nice 24 hr gym to come and wipe them out.

I'm occasionally in this part of town and sometimes come in for a workout, this location is kept pretty clean the few times I've been in but it is notably a somewhat smaller location and isn't quite as spacious as some other PF gyms. The men's locker room is pretty standard for a planet fitness location - no complaints from me on that. I have not used the showers in this location before. The staff were nice to me the first time I came in here and showed me around a bit before I started my workout, which was appreciated. Overall, good location.

Edit: I have now used the showers at this location, and they are pretty clean that I felt comfortable showering in them despite forgetting my sandals.

I had been looking for a friendly gym for a teenage girl and after hearing about planet fitness I gave it a try. I've loved my experience at PF-Carmel! I thought however, that the pause on the 24 hour thing was going to be temporary, but it seems to be dragging on. I hate to sound persnickety, but my club fees are withdrawn automatically, and the 24 hour option is something I am paying for. I understand that it must be difficult to fill this shift, but perhaps a manager should cover it until it can be filled in order to accommodate the members? This will definitely cause me to transfer to another facility that can accommodate my schedule. Another minor complaint is that the clock hasn't worked in two years. It's nice to glance up at that big clock while on the treadmill rather than picking up my phone to check the time. P.S. Shout-out to John though, who is currently there every morning at 5:00 a.m. sharp with a great attitude!

The water fountain (bottle refill) has been out of service for months as well. It’s a shame that this franchise is poorly ran to say the least.

I love this gym— though I’m a little annoyed that there are no longer any 24 hours days. That makes my training a little more difficult. As for the “Ad”person who complained about high schooler hanging out on equipment, Im not sure what you mean?! I’ve personally never seen that— but I get up and hit the gym when they open at 5am because I want to destroy my workout hard and not have anyone in the way. Give that a try instead of acting “like a Karen” and giving a two star review to a gym that has no control over what type of people workout there, Adam. 🤔 Everyone is entitled to be at the gym and workout— even you. Think about it because you made the same point about the lunk alarm, etc. Geez.

Great gym, always a great workout, but bring back the 24 hours because people like me like to hit the gym even before 5am sometimes. 🤘🏼
