The janitor got extremely nasty with me. Stuck his finger in my face, basically threatened me. Management just allows him to abuse their members with impunity. Tanning bed has been down for over a month which is frustrating when you're paying for a premium membership to use it.

I had a membership at planet fitness starting on 6/28/21 that membership ended on 8/31/21. Planet fitness overdrew my card at the time. I tried canceling through my bank. But they said I had to cancel in person. So I went back in shortly after and signed the papers to cancel. They never emailed me a receipt of cancelation. I don’t even know if they gave me a paper to keep, I sure as hell didn’t think to keep it. Within the next couple months I have plenty of emails from planet fitness asking me to come back meaning they acknowledge I was no longer a member….. now in 2025 I tried to renew my membership and they’re telling me I owe over $300 in back payments because my membership was never canceled….. $300 for never stepping in their building once when I made numerous phone calls, and signed cancellation papers. I talked to a manager or owner of the southwest planet fitness and they said I have to have proof I canceled from 4 years ago or there’s nothing they can do for me. Management at this store is cold, unforgiving, inhumane, and won’t do you any favors. BE CAREFUL signing a contract with this shark business they will shake you down for every dollar possible with no remorse. No humanity at planet fitness. They don’t care about you in the slightest.

I’m currently a member of the YMCA and I have gone to planet fitness twice to be shown around and sign up for a membership. Problem is that nobody will ever talk to me. It’s very strange feeling. The second time I was very patient and stood and waited for quite a while, and never was greeted and never had a chance to talk to anybody. I gave up and left.

Walked into a new location after not visiting my previous location for 8 months and was informed I owed $250 before I could get a membership due to charges because my debit card had been switched and them charging late fees/membership charges and yearly fees while I was not using the service. Keep in mind I was not once notified by email or otherwise that these charges were not going through. I offered to pay the yearly fee, late fees and one monthly past due but they declined. I told the club manager Michael
Campbell that it makes no sense to lose a customer to another gym vs accepting a partial payment and continuing to do business, as I would not be returning.

For me, it's less about equipment and more about whom you employ. The staff at your Jefferson Blvd location is top notch. In particular, I'd like to call out Michael and Sasha. As an older person (I'm almost 65), it's rare I'm even GREETED at a place like the gym. But they go out of their way, every time I'm there, to greet and engage me in conversation. That means a great deal to me. And they're that way with everyone!! It's the people who matter, people!! Kudos to them.

They intentionally make it as difficult as possible to cancel your subscription. I’m currently 2000 miles away and I need to pay to mail them a physical letter in order to cancel. Completely unacceptable dark pattern to extract as much cash out of forgotten subscriptions as possible.

Just be a good gym with good business practices and people will pay you. No need to hold people hostage in order to improve your bottom line.

As of April 2025 this policy will be in direct violation of the Federal Trade Commission’s “Click to Cancel” rule, and I look forward to being a part of the massive lawsuit they’ll be facing.

Update December 2024:
One of the few employees went outside to smoke. He had a beard, medium hair and glasses. The back door was open. The cigaratte smell went inside so far others, and I had to stop what we did and breathe elsewhere or not. Do something about this or i will be leaving, and I've been a loyal member for at least a couple years.
Mirror in front of all machines now. Machines are being added so that is good. Also, the locations has listened to expanding hours like Friday opening so I hope they continue to improve again.

Old review:
Love the new renovation/equipment upgrades. It does feel more in touch modern technologies and exercises.
I wish the cable bars for squatting and lifting was back in front of the mirror. Or, the mirror moved.
The mirror helped form, and it does not benefit anyone on the other machines to look at themselves if so desired.
Additionally, the placement in front of cardio machines like treadmill and bike is odd.

The weekday morning staff are inexperienced and lack people skills. Micheal the morning manager is unfriendly, rude and not great to deal with over the phone or in person . I’ve delt somewhat with night management and Nate is a great guy to deal with on the other hand. Even when I was dealing with him with canceling my membership he was understanding and had all the necessary paperwork ready to go upon my arrival. He even remembered me from when I called to check why after I wrote them in attempts to cancel the first time money was even being withdrawn form my account. I will note that I’ve had to cancel my membership 3 times in order to get them to withdrawing from my account. In which time I dealt with both Nate and Micheal as well as the nighttime assistant manager in which gave me no difficulty in getting the cancellation forms around when the electronically way of signing was down the second time I attempted to cancel. The first letter I wrote to them I order to cancel was either ignored or lost.They also told me you need to give them 2 weeks in advance from the date they withdraw from the bank of canceling or you still get charged..My advice to anyone thinking about canceling their membership to do so and when you do take pictures or ask for copies of the form if the device you sign on electronically is down… planet fitness makes the process of canceling a membership to difficult if your a busy person and don’t have time to go in.. it should be as easy as canceling any other monthly subscription, call in or even email to verify personal information if needed.

The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. They always say hello and goodbye! The gym is kept very clean and the new equipment/upgrades we have been getting have been nice. The machine layout is a little weird and makes you feel like you’re in peoples space when walking through but it’s really not that big of a deal in my opinion. What a wonderful gym. Team members, like Sasha Aye, Michael Campbell and Mike make this gym a place you want to go every day. These guys are always welcoming, friendly and attentive. Together with other friendly gym visitors and exercisers, it feels like having family and friends around.
The gym is well organized, lots of exercise machines that are nearly new and well maintained. And there is additional new equipment planned for January. On another note, it always surprises me how super clean it is, thanks to Mike and others.
I am a Black Card member and use the tanning, massage and red light features. And when we travel, we visit other local Planet Fitness locations, never had a problem.

Update 9:34pm after my workout. The staff became friendlier towards me. I liked while working out that they didn't have music I didn't want to hear blasting, I liked the lights weren't so bright like other planet fitness I've been to. I liked that they had good ac, clean air and clean machines but not filled with chemicals smell.

I liked that they had a spacious private shower. Only reason at this point i didn't bump it up to 4 or 5 is because their system should recognize black card members through phone number like other pfs I've been to, and 2. Because their shower curtain was too small which splattered water over the floor. The shower head is in a bad angle point straight at where the towel is and because the curtain is not covering all across my towel got all wet from shower head that should be higher pointing at it.

Oh, and some the staircase masters seem to be a little unstable and easy to move from side to side which concerned my safety.

But other than that I liked the atmosphere and having a private spacious shower.

The new layout for the weight equipment is TERRIBLE. It felt crowded before, but at least it made sense with the limited space available.

There isn't a clear path through the mess of machines on the floor, so you feel like you're always in someone else's space just trying to walk around.

The machines are all facing different directions, so now you could be face to face with another person on a different machine. Did I mention how cramped it is? It's awkward being so close to other people working out, and now we have to face each other on top of the closeness. Why not have all the machines facing the same way?

It feels like the machines were just thrown in place without any thought or concern for actual use. There are six smith machines now - but none of them are in front of the mirrors, so good luck checking your form.

This is not an improvement. The layout feels sloppy and lazy. I imagine it took people a lot of time and effort to make these changes, I just wish the end result wasn't so awful.

Night staff seems clueless and are usually unavailable and no where to be found. During the day (especially during Mondays) there is no room to workout. Machines are compacted together leaving no room to enjoy yourself during your workout. Obviously, body odor also becomes a problem at this location. Ventilation appears to be an issue especially around the cardio machines area, the one place that cool airflow is needed, of course. Only about half of clients appears to be actively cleaning their own machines after use, so hygiene appears to be lacking. Not to mention that many of the papertowel dispensers are usually broken or not refilled. About the only positive thing I can say is that your basic membership is 10$ which is very cheap! If you can avoid this location please do so. Another smaller issue is that Planet Fitness App has a crowd meter which tells you how many people are occupying the facility. Sometimes it shows 3 bars (indicating a very low amount of people) but upon entering you come to realize that the gym is closer to half capacity. I suspect that the app only shows stats based on historical data rather than actual population. Please, do not try to reach out to me saying that you're sorry (planet fitness staff!). This is my review and unless changes are made I will not change it.

My friend and I came to join, which we did, with ZERO help from! This place has a wonderful staff, the place is quite clean and usually busy. The only downsides to this location is it it's not hooked into the national subscriber's list, so you cannot just give your phone number unless you're from this small region. It is also interesting that this is the first location I've been to where all the black card options require you to fill out paperwork. All the locations that I've been to simply have a touch screen. They actually have like eight clipboards. Also they have the shelf for the sanitizer that for some reason the person in chair one must hurdle the person in chair too to actually clean anything. Besides the nice staff, I was getting 15 minutes in the massage chairs instead of the 10 that I usually get Nationwide. They have a shower that's like a complete bathroom, obviously meant for the handicap, but considering the looks that everyone gives me publicly, I'm included. Five stars!

I joined the Ft Wayne Club 3 years ago. I canceled a few months after joining. The club was too busy and I wasn't going. I went into the club, canceled the membership and the monthly fee stopped. The next year I was charged an annual fee, I called and tho they wouldn't refund the $40, they assured me it wouldn't be charged the next year. It was deducted again this year. I called and a girl answered and told me I would have to show proof I had canceled to get a refund. Also I needed to drive 45 miles to Ft Wayne (no email, no fax)to get the refund. This is the poorest example of customer service I have experienced. I never even exercised at this club and now I've spent $120 for a service I never used and I canceled 3 years ago. I would never recommend this company

Overall really unhappy with my experience at this gym. Two accounts were opened in my name when I started. Had to get that taken care of. Then I go in person to close my account over a year ago and apparently whoever I talked to froze my account instead of closing it. Automatic payments popped up again a few months ago and I’ve been getting charged for a membership again. I call for help and looking for some sort of refund and can openly hear the manager saying that’s too much money to refund. The representative gets back on the line and says that they only had a cancellation form for the closed extra account that was created (convenient) and that they can cancel but do nothing else for me. Zero customer service and won’t be using PF anymore.

My brother is a member of this place and has made many complaints about the way they communicate. It's a great place to work out at a reasonable price. I just wish they had more benches for free weight use and that people were actually using them for more than a place to set their drink on.
