I have been a member here for over a year and, although there have been a fair number of machines out of order over that time, in the past few months, MULTIPLE machines are always broken. The staff is great; however, the equipment maintenance is severely lacking.

BEFORE you join a PF, be sure to READ ALL of the Online Reviews: The people that work here are nice, (who I have a problem with is the OWNERS) and most locations in Indy must ALL be OLD or something? WIFI does NOT work & equipment is down & not working & some locations have issues with their showers? (This one was ok) and I travel & visit a NEW PF location just about every day. Like MOST major corporations they ONLY care about ONE thing? Collect your monthly fees! They sure have THAT automated & if even your backup credit card 💳 is not ready to charge, some locations stop you at the door. Really disappointed that PF had no problem collecting MY money ALL through Covid while I could NOT use ANY of their locations & now, as I travel, I can NOT count on PF to meet my basic needs as a customer. I am looking at the competition & other clubs & I am confident that I am not alone.

Plenty of equipment, just an odd setup. Not many people at the gym midday on a Friday which was also a plus. Only 3 tight showers, and 2 dressing rooms. Water pressure very low. Not just the showers but toilets also. More than likely a city issue and not one of PF. Overall a great experience!

Btw I rode my e bike but would not advise any truckers to try wiggling around in this parking lot.

I like how uncrowned it seems (there are some people there all the time but you cannot see most of them thanks to the layout of the space) as it was the reason I left my previous gym. Really comfortable for me. Never seen any broken equipment, it’s always clean. I wish it closed later Fridays and Saturdays though

Always clean. I have never had an issue getting to use the piece of equipment I'm looking for. I am usually there earlier than most people. I get there about 4:30 p.m. and typically done by 5:30. Stopped at the door and told there’s no firearms allowed in the building. Staff was polite about it, but no signs posted outside to inform you that this establishment doesn’t support the second amendment, my home gym has never had an issue when I come in after getting off shift and I always lock it in my locker when I change into my gym attire. Warning for all! Someone has been having access to the gym using my membership. I have not been going since I got pregnant and now that I was ready to use my membership I called to ask if it’s active and they couldn’t find me at all so I logged into my account and I come to find out there’s been multiple check ins at another planet fitness club I’ve never been too under my membership and on top of that something was purchased under my name oh and that’s not all!! My phone number was changed on my account so no wonder front desk couldn’t find me on their system!! I am in disbelief!! Breach of privacy!!! Be careful too much crooked things going on!!

The Keystone location is closer to my house, but I go to this W 86th location because it's 100x cleaner, the equipment is in way better shape, the staff is helpful/friendly/present/accessible, and the overall vibe is better. High-fives to Thea who gave me an awesome tour and did a great job explaining membership options and benefits.

This gym has changed for the better since the last time I was here, which was years ago. The renovations actually made a difference. There’s actually plenty of weight equipment compared to how most PFs too much cardio. It also doesn’t smell like a dump, which is very common at all other PFs. Keep up the good 86th St. 💪🏻

It’s crazy how much this place has changed. I used to love it but now i’m out of this place. Employees will literally talk to you like they have no manners. The staff are mad that they are working and choose that job as a job and they take it out on the people that come in and are trying to work on themselves. It’s not a place i want to be at. I came to this very clean, organized, judgment-free zone (around 1pm on a Friday) with my fitness guru and am seriously considering joining! (I swore I'd never join another gym based on past nightmares @ LAF - they definitely judged 😒) Great location (86th Street/Township Line Road), you could get your nails done afterwards or get a coffee or some Fresh Thyme groceries. Check-in was quick, staff were smiling and kind. Good amount of recumbent bikes, treadmills and I really enjoyed the timed 30min weight circuit area. Everything I touched was clean and I was happy that the gym didn't smell like crunchy old socks after a high school soccer game! Only reason I gave 4* is that A) I didn't bring a lock with me so I can't speak to their locker availability and B) I didn't need to visit their restroom, so I can't speak to those. I also have a complimentary gym membership through my health insurance and I could see myself committing to this PF, if they accept UHC! Overall, I'm looking forward to another visit!

Just ended my membership with this location after several years of being a member! I've had a couple issues with this particular location, with the mishandling of my account, but that's not the reason that I am leaving! The reason that I'm leaving is because, not too long after the remodeling of this location, they decided to get rid of all the old elliptical machines, and brought new ones in to replace them, and I do not like them at all! That might not be a huge issue to some, but that was one of the main pieces of equipment that i used at this gym, so…kind of a big deal to me. The old ones seemed a lot more solid and sturdy, even the placement of the cup holder and where I use to put my phone seems unusable now (I do admit I’m being a little picky at this point, but hey, might as well throw that in too!). I thought maybe I just needed to get used to them, gave them a chance, and still don't like them! This is nothing terrible on Planet Fitness’s part, but still enough for ME to go elsewhere. Sucks cause I live like 30 seconds away!🤷‍♂️

This is one of the best deals out there. I can go to any planet fitness in the country and even bring a guest for only 20 bucks a month. They are generally very clean including this one. Most of the equipment is updated and there aren't long waits for weight machines and there is never a wait for cardio. The only legitimate complaint I can think of is there aren't enough plates for the few free weight machines. I know they do it for a reason but it can still get a little frustrating to not have 2 45 lb plates on every squat machine. You have to go chasing them around the gym. The staff is really friendly at this one and like I said it's a pretty clean one with relatively modern equipment and tanning beds and some kind of a massage better something that I've never used but it's a good value.

I paid a whole year in advance, after 5 months working out 4 to 5 times a week, last Tuesday I was turned away because I refused to let them put a picture of me in their database. Great location for me. Systems that ran the tanning beds and massage chairs were down recently for 7-10 days and and air dryer in men’s locker room has been down for a month. The stationary bikes and elliptical machines are almost all missing a cup holder or two. The bikes need some maintenance as at least one seems to have a gear stripped and makes a knocking noise. Friendly staff and clean location. Overall good, just needs a little more attention to detail and TLC on equipment.

I just left this location and I did not feel welcomed by Sakena. I felt I was an interruption. I’m a previous member at the Keystone location- they were friendly and made you feel welcome and there to assist. I’m sure I will rejoin since the location is best for me. As I walked back she was discussing our interaction with the other employee.

Overall, I’ve had a good experience with PF. I’ve had several different gym memberships, and PF is simply the best bang for your buck as far as just having basic equipment goes. The remodeled gyms are very nice and always clean. They do get crowded since it’s so cheap, but I always get through my workouts.

I love the staff here, but I also love the other patrons and the environment. It's easy to be skeptical, maybe even dismissive, of the claim Planet Fitness makes to prevent the "gymtimidation" vibe that turns some off to certain gyms (myself included.)

The staff is friendly without being obtrusive and patient with me and my litany of questions. The premium membership, I firmly believe, is worth the extra money. I've been using the hydromassage beds regularly, as well as the Total Body Enhancement machine, and even tanning booths (3 minutes at a time helps my psoriasis like you wouldn't believe.)

Last but not least, not only are the staff friendly, but they laugh at my jokes, which is nice because I've got some terrible jokes. ("Like frayed paper, my jokes are tearable." <-- see? I told you.) Overall, I highly recommend this location. It's awesome-sauce.

Edit: three years after my initial review, I will say that the cleanliness has dropped off. An unclean gym is always gross, but especially after COVID, this is a dealbreaker for me. As much as I’ll miss the amenities that came with the premium membership (guest access, tanning, the red light therapy machine, massage beds/chairs) I can’t justify a membership anymore. I went somewhere else and I’m not sorry. PF might have a general reputation, but this location especially can feel super gross. Depending on what you’re looking for, this could be a great deal/location, but if you want a clean, safe place to work out, look elsewhere.

I have been going to this specific branch on 86th and Townshipline Rd for about 6 months. Although it hasn't all been sunshine and rainbows, the owner does the best they can and cares about us as customers.

You must, however, understand that this branch is a franchise and not associated with planet fitness as a whole. So the staff changes often, therefore I highly suggest that you be polite and get to know the staff at your local branch to ensure good communication. Any gripe I have could've been avoided by doing this.

After a freak incident with a potentially violent gym member, they immediately banned him and offered me several months for free. I felt that they handled the situation better than most gyms I've been to in the past. So, as a result, I want to show my support with a review and my continued patronage.

I like it at planet fitness but a couple of the employees act like they are too lazy to type your phone number in.
I have been going here for years and recently I lost my check in card. I do not do apps or alot of online things so no I do not have the app and have no intentions on getting it.
I ask them to just type my phone number in and verify me that way. Some employees do it without hesitation, but others make a big deal...literally they are doing nothing else but talking to their coworkers!

I work out at the 86th street location, staff is friendly, the facility and the equipments are clean and sanitized; even the people who workout there do a good job of wiping the equipment after they workout. So it comes down to what you are wanting to accomplish. If you need cardio equipment, they have plenty of it. But, if you are wanting to lift weights, you will have to wait. Not enough free weights, not enough to support all the people who are there to lift. However the facility is clean and the staff is great.

I have NEVER been an exercise person let alone a gym one. I decided to give it a try since I really want to be able to stand straight, walk, and be a healthy grandma. So far this Planet Fitness location is the best one of the 4 I've visited in my area. It's clean, spacious, with a well-lit parking lot and they even have automatic doors.
