UPDATED 10/20/25. I’m editing this as I went to workout the other day after a long illness only to find you’re closed 4-6 weeks! Then told I can go to Laporte location. You should have informed paying members of the shutdown AND afforded some type of compensation for the huge inconvenience.
Disappointing.

This gym is so spacious and clean. Never have to wait for anything! Brand new equipment and always treated very well.

I enjoy the gym when I have time but I must say they allow some rude behavior from some of the members. Rule is if you leave a area and you don't have any belongings there it's fair game. I was on the pull down bar in the small room last week when another member thought it was appropriate to shout across the room that he was still using this equipment. First of all he was working out on something else!!! Secondly there is a polite and appropriate way to address things if one feels it's necessary. To get aggressive and degrading is never the way to handle things. I complained to the front desk because I felt threatened and it wasn't really handled in the correct manner. This other member came rushing at me and I felt I just needed to leave the area or this was going to become a police matter. In all my years of working out I have never been aggressed upon by someone. If a male tries to become threatening to a female he should be asked to leave plain and simple. BTW I was just minding my own business when this started and didn't even notice he was speaking to me at first and this just set him off. Acted like a full grown out of control thug!!! They closed for 4 to 6 weeks. We weren't told!!! Ridiculous

All the staff is so nice except Alan (I think thats his name.) I couldn't catch his name tag. He was tall slim and ginger. Anyways, he wasn't very welcoming or helpful at all. Which is a very broad contrast from the rest of the staff who is ALWAYS friendly and smiling and helpful. This was my first time seeing him though. I'll just make sure to come earlier in the day to avoid him. I don't want to jump to conclusions, because he could just be a monotone & unwelcoming person, but... He doesn't represent the "Everyone Belongs" motto at all.

Me and my friend are pf members and we’ve been to multiple different planet fitnesses. However when we walked into this one they made us sign in a different way. Even going as far as to get my id, a new email, and pay for guest passes. We’ve never had this problem before. When we walked into the first thing that was apparent was how dimly lit the place was. Once we started working out we also noticed that all of the equipment is outdated. All of the adjustments and hand grips don’t work as well as any other one we’ve been to. We were doing leg curls with 192.5 pounds and the knee pad pin in this picture slipped out of the hole because of how worn down and short it is. The weights came crashing down. It almost cause me to hyper extend my legs.

First when we walked in the lady was so persistent about us not being able to go here since we have a pass at a specific other location, other planet fitnesses dont care too much. However thats not even near the worst part, the gym is not well lit at all, the machine pins come out so easily especially on leg curls which happened to my friend and almost hurt him, the equipment is just inferior to other places in general, and the environment leaves a lot to be desired.

Half of the paper towl dispensers are broken because the gear won't catch, the equipment is dirty and laking variety, and this place is so dirty that all the vents are VISIBLY PACKED WITH DUST and grime. dirtiest PF I've ever been to.

I’ve been to several Planet Fitness locations around the country. The Michigan City Planet Fitness is consistently one of the cleanest locations I’ve been to. The staff is always friendly, and I’ve never had an issue with another guest in the several years that I’ve been a member.

The business doesn’t document harassment, they try to cover up their mistakes to people please. You have to reach out to the regional manager before getting anywhere and still even then they try to make you feel like you don’t deserve to have a voice. On multiple occasions, with multiple members… myself and other women (some underage) have been harassed and/or followed by members from the gym. When you go to management, they tell you to call the police or tell you to tell the other person to leave you alone 🤯. The gym has gone downhill since recent management was split between LaPorte and Michigan City. I’ve handed over a witness statement to regional management with lots of promises (this was over a month ago). I have consulted a lawyer to move forward that way but frustrating when you had to switch gyms and fight for your right to workout without nasty old men bothering you. On top of harassment, there’s horrible lighting outside and zero cameras. Theres good employees that hated working there and high turnover because of the toxic environment . They show you other members information on the screen, talk about one another's personal business to members, and talk bad about other members to members they do like. The employee that runs the place when the manager isn’t there would have her boyfriend there for hours at a time. The cleanliness is disgusting depending on which staff members are there. The policies are not enforced unless they feel like it or don’t like the person who is breaking the policy . The list goes on and on. When it first opened, I loved going there. Hopefully the regional manager steps up and follows through.

I decided to come here after work before picking up our dog on my way home at my parents.. Since he hates when I drop him and leave to go work out.
The staff seemed okay at first. Couple younger girls at the desk. The place is really dark. I felt the equipment was out of date, at least the elliptical I used. It felt pretty small in general in there. The locker room had some trash and random things left on the benches. I was told that they had a full infrared light booth and vibration plate. I asked the girls at the counter and they seemed bothered by the question that I even asked... I just didn't feel at ease here like I do in LaPorte. To me I won't be back. Felt crowded, too close to people, out of date equipment, it was dark, I didn't see anyone cleaning at all while working. Laporte always has people walking around wiping things down.
The staff just seemed bothered to be bothered.
It wasn't for me but maybe check it out for yourself first...

An Employee fat shamed me by making a comment about my neck rolls. Planet fitness is a judgment free zone and are known as such, as it is their motto. This employee is still employed. I have been a member of this gym for a few years and I’ve never had any issues with their staff until now. I am not one to wish for another to be unemployed. However, given my experience, I find termination necessary of this employee.

I just called in to speak with a manager & basically argued back and forth with Kayla for 20 minutes about having a double account. She says she is the manager this morning & the person that I spoke with previously, Tess is on leave. When I came in the resolve this issue some months ago I spoke with a dark hair white guy, I don’t remember his name. I was told I can’t have 2 accounts and I would have to pay the balance on the original account to get in good standing and I will be able to use the gym. I was not told that I would continue to be billed on the new account that I cannot even use. Had I known that I would have made sure to cancel or do whatever needed to be done so that I wouldn’t get charged. And it’s not like the guy told me to cancel the new account I just made. I had no idea I was even being charged! The bank account that it was setup with was closed due to fraud, I had no idea that I was being charged for the new account that I was told I CANT use due to a balance on my original account. I just logged into the app and saw an outstanding balance that I’ve been getting charged for months!!!!! I am livid because I would not have let the balance get this out of hand!!! I asked her why would I not be contacted in regards to an outstanding balance… you guys called before. She said why would we call you about your balance and you put a card that didn’t work on the account. I explained to her that it was a working card but it was closed due to fraud. Well that’s your balance and you have to pay it before you can use the gym. Why should I have to pay for a balance that I had no idea about being charged… my original account was closed and I was told I cannot use the account I signed up for online because I have an account with a balance… why would I want 2 memberships for the same gym… what sense does that make???!!!

I told Kayla that I want to speak with a higher up. She said that would be TJ but he’s not here. So I said what’s his contact info, she said you just have to call in to speak with him when he’s here. I said he doesn’t have an extension or email address? She said the email address is on the website…I said what’s his direct email and she said he doesn’t have one you just have to send it to that main one. I still can’t find an email address Kayla was rude, condescending & accused me of lying! Every time I explained something to her about what happened she would say… wait you just said this or you just said that now you’re saying this. That sounds like you’re call me a liar and I told her that is very unprofessional. This interaction with a supposedly manager was beyond unprofessional and unacceptable!!!

PROPER GYM ETIQUETTE from members is lacking. I'm a 3 years Black Card holder at this location and feel that I need share my thoughts and concerns. During busy times you will often find members: hogging machines / equipment or claiming dibs on machines, by leaving their drink in the holder / on the bench, while they go and socialize with other members and staff in-between sets. I have suggested in emailed "location surveys" they need to post the "6 Gym Etiquette Tips" found on the Planet Fitness web site to help, as a reminder to discourage this type behavior. In their response, (to me) it was suggested, that I need to find a time that's less crowded. This of course doesn't address the systemic etiquette issue and the seemingly unwillingness to go about correcting it.

I have had different home gym locations in the past 10 years that I have been with PF, and I visit other locations when I travel. This one measures up to any other great locations I have been to. The placement of the machiness is a little odd but the building is long so the layout makes sense. If you visit, you may have to do a lap to find the machine you want to use but it's there! The facility is clean and anyone I have seen working at the front desk greets anyone coming and going.

Nice place, needs to be updated. Some staff are very nice, the older African American guy who works late nights is very creepy. He told me what machines I could use, he would just often walk into the changing room unannounced and stand there. He talks about everyone loudly, fat shames, talks about the elderly, you name it.
I won't ever be there with him, after all that.
They let the friendly hard working staff go while in pursuit of keep hiring new people, why don't you appreciate who have and stop hiring new that don't last. And then staff isn't equal at all for race but I guess that isn't a concern?

It's user-friendly, desk jockies are tremendously helpful, and offer assistance at the drop of a hat. If they don't know, they will find out. I WISH there were floor-length mirrors. Form is everything. If you can't see your floor work, it is VERY possible that you are doing more harm than good. Floor work includes Pilates, push-ups, crunches (on floor). They have more than enough machines with QR icons to show how to adjust machine and do the movement correctly. Your entry is part of your PF app. ALWAYS enough room to not be in each other's space. CLEAN - everywhere. Did I say affordable. No. CHEAP, thank you very much!

This is the only “GYM” that has the audacity to make you sign a waiver to not file a lawsuit if you get hurt in their rented property, news flash owners of this gym you can still get sued, secondly the front staff are extremely rude and not know about a member that has a black card membership you can bring a member from another planet fitness as your guest, my wife and myself came together and told her she could not train here you have to pay $5.00 they said, this is beyond ridiculous.

I’ve been to over 20 PF locations throughout the country. This is the first one that made me feel unwanted. Because this was not my home location, they made me sign in on a sign in sheet. The woman behind the desk said it was for a liability release, but it’s just a sign-in log with no header or waiver. Even so, why does a Black Card member have to sign a waiver?? No other location has asked a Black Card member to do so. I just felt like I didn’t belong there. Also, I had to sign for for hydro massage chair, which was broken. And, this is the only location without the location name on the wall.
