I love the studio and what it has to offer! The environment is so warm and welcoming. The teachers are awesome and the class size allows me to get correction on my form. I am treated like a person there not a dollar sign and that is really nice. The teachers are always willing to work within your abilities and are aware of how to adapt movements for various issues like back, knee and ankle challenges. I am always telling people they need pilates in their life and I can ALWAYS tell when I've missed a few classes due to vacation or life challenges. I also enjoy how we have a few free guest passes to bring a friend to try it and the opening of the community class time for people to try it out.

Pilates has been a key part of my life since 1998. The instructors at Pure Movement Pilates have varied professional education and expertise, always reflect excellence in their sessions, and tend to the individual needs of each student. Specifically, in a recent session with Leah, we worked on the release of tension in my upper body, restoring more fluid movement of my arthritic shoulder, while maintaining core stability. I left my session feeling refreshed and strong. Each week I look forward to learning new things and moving well! Try it! You’ll love it!

I’ve been with Pure Movement for several years taking both group and private lessons. Having taken classes elsewhere, I can share that their in-depth knowledge of the human body is very impressive. But more importantly they create an environment that is targeted and effective yet light and fun. I primarily use Brittney as an instructor for both private and group classes. She is a 10+.

• What originally brought you to Pure Movement or Pilates in general?
• When I retired in early 2018, my wife Carol’s friend Pat gave me an introductory private Pilates package as a retirement gift.
• Leah was my instructor and the pain I had in my piriformis muscles due to sitting at my job for 42 years went away due to Pilates.
• After that I was hooked on Pilates and continued taking Private lessons for over 5 years.
• What’s something you appreciate about the instructors or how classes are taught?
• I started taking classes in the fall of 2023 mostly with Leah, but also with Maddie and Brittany on occasion.
• In the classes I knew the terminology due to the Private sessions I had taken and the instructors are very helpful in making sure I am doing things properly.
• The instructors begin each class asking what people want to work on and are flexible with how the classes go.
• It is incredible how the instructors keep on task and within the hour time.
• What does the community at Pure Movement mean to you?
• Pure Movement got me started with Pilates and I like the loyalty and continuity of the instructors
• The owner Tresa has a connection to my hometown of Woodstock Illinois through her mother and grandfather which is an added plus for me.
• What hesitations or concerns did you have before starting Pilates?
• My biggest hesitation was that the vast majority of people taking classes are women.
• Being a father of 3 daughters and being married to Carol for 49 years as well as our 23 grandchildren has been a positive influence for me to continue and encourage other men to take up Pilates.
• One of my friends is now taking private sessions with Leah, which I recommended to him for his pain.
• How has your Pilates practice influenced your daily life or other activities (e.g., running, grand parenting, traveling)?
• Pilates has helped my core strength and posture, which is a constant battle for me at age 73.
• For me Pilates is like a combination of physical therapy and self-chiropractic.
• Pilates enables me to get my alignment back together when it slips up, which is a constant battle.
• Therefore, I am able to still run, travel, have fun with Carol and play with all the grandkids from 8 months to 18 years.
• Favorite exercise and why?
• Bridges and footwork squats are my favorite exercises.
• Bridges help with my spinal alignment.
• I do bridges at home on the foam roller too.
• Squats help with my mobility getting up and down in chairs and at church.
• Feet in straps are another favorite because it is a great hamstring stretch, which as a runner for nearly 60 years get very tight.

Choosing to take private classes with Pure Movement was a great decision. The one on one attention from Tresa that’s personalized for my needs has been helping me understand exercises, how I move, and really focusing on connecting my mind to my body. I have even had the opportunity to take a group class a few weeks ago with Leah. I enjoyed the spoken visuals as we focused a lot on our breath and pelvic floor.

This studio fosters encouragement, support, friendship & fun. With highly trained instructors you can achieve a stronger and more flexible body even if you're recovering from surgery or hip/knee replacement! In class you might have an 83 yo on your left & a professional ballerina on your right while being joined by a pregnant mama. Pilates created this movement program for everyone. It's for U too.

Having taken Pilates classes at Pure Movement for the past 5+ years, The daily Virtual class offerings have been a lifeline to normalcy, health and self-care during the pandemic. I have been going to Pure Movement for many years and have been taking their virtual Zoom mat/barre classes since COVID-19 hit. It has been a lifesaver for my mental and physical health. The studio worked with students to get the necessary props to make the most of the virtual classes. While I miss attending the studio Reformer classes, the Zoom classes are a great alternative until I am comfortable returning to the studio. The virtual classes have helped me maintain core and overall strength and given me a better understanding of key Pilates sequences. The instructors are wonderful and each one brings something unique and helpful to the classes. Highly recommend!

A few years ago, I began experiencing low back pain, which was unbearable at times. I was treating with a chiropractor 2-3 times per week for almost a year, with very little relief. I refused to take medication and continued to suffer through the pain. Until.....
A client of mine was taking classes at Pure Movement and recommended I meet with Tresa. After a few private sessions, I was ready to join group reformer classes. It's been a couple of years now and I believe that pilates absolutely saved me! I very rarely experience back pain and feel so much stronger, more flexible and balanced overall.
It centers me and I actually crave the classes when my schedule doesn't allow me to visit as often as I want. The other women who attend are great and the studio itself is modern and inviting. I love Pure Movement for these reasons, and more!

In my 2nd year at Pure Movement and loving it!! Pilates has definitely made a difference in my core strength and flexibility. Tresa, Polly and Nadia, are knowledgeable, professional, friendly and encouraging. The classes are NEVER boring! I love how Tresa "mixes it up" with different equipment. I currently take the Mixed Apparatus Class and just added Barre ~ my new favorite! Would highly recommend this studio ~ any age, any level, they are the studio for you!

The staff at Pure Movement offers a variety of workouts suited for all skill levels. Personally, I took the barre and apparatus classes and loved them both. The instructors explained everything thoroughly and made me feel very welcome. When I visited, it was my first time in a studio and working out anywhere outside of the YMCA. With that said, I would encourage anyone to add a Pure Movement class to their regular routine at a typical gym. It's worth the additional cost and the instructors at Pure Movement will workout muscles that not even the gym can reach! Highly recommended.
