About the Club

The Links at Heartland Crossing Golf Course presents 18 beautiful holes that are an experience you’ll never forget. Featuring a links-style layout that harkens back to some of golf’s classic challenges all over the United Kingdom, this incredibly beautiful and all around aesthetically pleasing golf course is one of the most unique you’ll find anywhere in the Midwest. 7 different tees to choose from provides opportunities for golfers of all abilities to experience what a course in Europe would be like without leaving Indiana. The fairways are picturesque rolling bent grass, and are contrasted by the near-constant presence of white sand bunkers – an essential part of links-style courses. Water too is in play, mostly on the back 9.

Made a tee time on Monday 8/4 to play on Saturday 8/9 at 7:57 am. When I arrived at the course around 7:20 am on 8/9 I was told that there was an outing and that I would be unable to play at my tee time. The course offered to let us go off on the back 9 but we would have caught up the outing when making the turn. I am extremely disappointed in the this experience. Having played the course 10+ times over the past two years, this is by far my worst experience, and I believe it is unacceptable to not call and let me know the tee time was unavailable. Also, it seems this may be the last year for the course, I recommend you don’t give them any business as it seems they are trying to make any last money before closing down.

Edit since I can’t respond the the courses comment, unfortunately I didn’t get a screenshot of their reply: Attached is the email where the reservation was made directly with the course via their website (not golfnow).

Booked a 12:09 tee time. Checked in, and informed by Worker A that we would be behind a 12:00 outing that had a shotgun start. He claimed we’d tee off by 12:10, it was closer to 12:20. Pace of play very slow for the first few holes, did not tee off on 4 until 1:30, for example.

When we were on 7 Worker B drove by in a cart and asked if we wanted him to talk to the group in front of us, we said we knew it was an outing, mentioned the slow pace of play and inquired about a rain check for the back. He was incredibly understanding and said he’s told them to not book tee times right after outings, and he went to see if we could get rain checks.

15 minutes later on 8 Worker A drives out and says we could get 9 hole rain checks after 9, I mentioned that given the pace of play they should not be booking right after outings, he said the course was full anyways and that it wouldn’t have mattered, also mentioned that he’s not sweating a ten minute difference with an afternoon tee time (as we did start about 10 minutes). So my question to management is thisβ€” what pace of play do you want guests to expect here? We finished 9 about 2:50 after our scheduled tee time, and 2:35 after we teed off on 1. Is this what you want people to expect? More than a 5 hour round?

Then, we went to the pro shop to get a back 9 rain check. I have the GR8 Golf Card, which covers the greens fee but not the cart. Worker C attempted to refund me only half the cart fee and claimed I wouldn’t be able to come back and play the other 9 since I’d used the GR8 Golf Card, then finally Worker A chimed in and said if I brought the card back and explained they’d honor the rain check. I appreciate him doing his part to make things right, but it shouldn’t have gotten to that point to begin with.

Both A and C could have shown more remorse, C didn’t seem to mind at all about the pace of play issue we had, A was a little defensive but understanding enough in the end.

Editβ€” I’d still like to know how slow it would have to be for the course to not feel like they were β€œbending over backwards” in this situation. 3 hours for 9? 3 and a half? Why list 4:30 on the scorecard with seemingly no expectation of it being a reality.

May 2025 - What a super nice course. It may be the best in my rotation. Links style course. Respect the sand. The way the grass was cut is advantageous to the golfer. Keep it in the fairway and you will be rewarded. I will definitely be back. A good variety of holes allow you to use every club in your bag. Great friendly staff. The greens roll true. 5 stars.

We were in town for business and we selected to play here due to proximity to the airport. Our decision was fully justified. We were met with really friendly hospitality and insights to the golf course and genuinely couldn’t have done more for us.
The setup of the course was fair and challenging, especially with the wind! A great track that I thoroughly recommend.

Really interesting links style layout at a great value greens are nice enough. Friendly staff and quick pace of play. My only wish is the bunkers would be filled with some new sand as you’re basically playing off compacted dirt in them. Fix the bunkers and I’d be a regular.

just played this course today 4/27/2024….This is not a $55 course!!!! Weeds everywhere, no rakes in bunkers, it’s almost May and no water stations on course….. this is an okay course, just disappointing for $55……

Normally I love this course, but played on New Years Day and paid $46 for cart path only and no Flag Sticks in any of the wholes!
Understand the cart path only, it was extremely wet, but if you're going to charge normal winter rates….put flags in!!!!
Very disappointing for $46.

I live on the course and golf here 3 times a month at least and I’m starting to question it.

This year has been worse than the past few, and hopefully it’s accredited to still being April; my biggest complaint is the lack of etiquette and no reinforcement from ownership. No water on the course, no cart team driving around, no ranger checking pace. The past 4 rounds I’ve played have taken 4+ hours AS A SOLO. Foursomes taking 3+ shots on each tee box and slowing the entire pace. For $50 a round I expect a lot more. This year I’d say it’s worth maybe $20.

The outer edges of the golf course are weeds, and junk trees are growing. The Landscaping isn't kept up around parameters of the course. I've been told, It isn't the neighborhoods around it responsibility. The home are brand new starting at $330 for a 1300 square foot home. Lacking maintenance.

The links style is very nice and the pro shop attendant was cordial. That being said, the sheer amount of subdivisions prevent the course from ever truly feeling like a links course, and as others have mentioned, average conditions and no maps on the scorecard or at each hole. If you get caught behind a member or regular, they might just be the most arrogant and rude people at any course you can find and will refuse to let you through. Also I noticed towards the end they let people off on both 1 and 10 to start so good luck with pace of play if you aren’t one of the first ones out. Fine for a one time play through, but a perfectly skippable course in the area.

I arrived early for my tee time hoping to warm up and hit some balls. I asked the girl at the check in desk if there was a practice facility and she said no. Later on when playing the 9th hole I saw the driving range and a handful of people using it. The putting green was being watered and unusable. A person from the grounds crew saw me sitting next to the putting green and instead of turning the water off to allow their customers to use the green he just adjusted the sprinklers and drove off. The rough just off the fairway is unkept and I lost several balls just a few feet out of the fairway because I could not find them in the rough. Also the bunkers are very inconsistent. Some appear to have been raked and some were almost just dirt and very hard packed. For a greens fee of $54 I was very disappointed and will not be back.

Beautiful, well maintained course. Challenging but very playable. Greens run fast and pin placements definitely challenge your putting skills on every green. Pace of play was really good. We were able to tee off a few minutes past our tee time. We did wait initially on the first hole to play our fairway shots. After that things moved along without a problem. Great staff in the pro shop, especially Jeff. Super guy. Very knowledgeable. If you haven't played this course, check it out. No disappointments here.

Course is in excellent shape. Always enjoyed playing here, difficult but not unmanageable for those of us who play a few mulligans a round. My issue, and it's not just this course, but most of them, is spraying the course while people are playing. I am allergic to something in pesticides and fertilizers. That's not stuff people should have soaking into their shoes or hands anyway. The course would have gotten 5 stars if it weren't for that. Go play it, it's worth the trip.

The course was very well taken care of. The one problem I have with this course is that there are no pictures or layout of the holes. Most of the round it was hard to tell where I should be aiming at. The course needs to add the layout of the hole on scorecards or on the hole markers.

Will never go back. For the price, there are many other courses that are in way better shape and have better customer service. There is no water or drink cart on this course, you must get it at the clubhouse..... For $20 more you can play Otter Creek that is echelons above this course. You got me once, but never again.

It had been years since I played here last, something like 10 years ago. I was a bit skeptical, since I had heard a lot of mixed reviews about the conditions. I went out there today and was very surprised how good the conditions were. Granted, it was a bit dry. It wasn't that big of a deal, since this is a links style course and we haven't had much rain lately. But the greens were in very good condition. The bunkers were raked and had plenty of sand. The only things bringing this course down a bit is it's location, and the relatively cheap housing being built near it. But in terms of overall conditions, I would say it's close to something like Pebblebrook or The Legends. It may still be a step below The Fort or Purgatory...but it's very close to its championship level past. It's definitely back in my rotation of courses in Indy. If Heartland Crossing was in Fishers, Carmel, or Noblesville, it would be more expensive and very busy. I think I paid $49 for green fees and a cart...that's actually a pretty good bargain during peak hours on a weekend.

Not an enjoyable experience. First time playing the course. Purchased range balls and staff member didn’t inform me of where anything was never gave me the token for the machine had to go back to pro shop to find out where things was located. Possibly you should have signs posted. Driving range ect. heck just tell players where #1 is. The course has a lot of bunkers, this makes no sense if your going to use crushed dirt and rocks instead of the traditional sand filled bunkers. The only reason i gave 2 stars is because the back 9 has a great layout other than that the course is extremely disappointing

This is a nice course good layout. The only negative thing I can say is something all the courses in the area are experiencing. They are short staffed so the bunkers are in bad shape. They look like they get racked once a week. More often than not I'm playing in the morning as in within a half hour of opening so I see the same bunkers that are a mess. Other than that this is a great variety and a test of every club in yer bag.

Played here this morning, what a great course. Of the three courses I have played in the area this is the best. If yer a fan of links style courses with fast greens look no further. I played Hickory Stick last week Heartland Crossing has them beat. The greens are in better shape and their bunkers are raked. The staff I dealt with was great, I forget if it was the head pro or the GM that rang me up in the pro shop. He even gave me more of a discount on shoes that were on sale. I will be back, the chicken salad sandwich I picked up making the turn was great as well.

Course was in great shape. It played well. Only complaint was we had the first tee time of the day and when we made the turn, suddenly there was a six-some? in front of us. When we let the twosome behind us play through while waiting for the 6, the 2 called the Pro Shop to alert them. Nothing was done and we played behind 6 hackers playing two balls each, for the rest of the round. I just expected better for 50 bucks plus a bar tab. Kid working the pro shop was unable to handle the situation. Or didn't want to.

Great effort being put into making this course one if the best in its area. This is easily becoming my favorite to play. Greens are top notch. Layout is challenging and can be played short from the reds or waaaaayyyyy back from the tips. Lots of sand. Some things like a few sand bunkers still needing repaired/filled. But the bunkers that have been filled are premium sand and very playable compared to other times and even other courses that are like playing off of mud and pea gravel. Staff is top notch!

Yes, the course is in much better shape than it was 2 years ago but definitely not worth a 5 star rating (as some reviewers have rated it). The greens are in great shape but the fairways still have several dead spots. The far roughs are not links style roughs, where the grass should be tall and thin, enabling one to hit a shot. The far roughs are just thick weeds, making it not only impossible to hit a shot but usually not even possible to find your ball. The sand traps have sand in them but the edges are horribly rugged, not trimmed at all. The depth of these traps requires trimmed (and mowed) edges to make them playable. In my opinion, this course has way too many traps around the greens. It is next to impossible to roll or bounce a ball onto the green. If your approach shot doesn't hit the green on the fly, it has absolutely no chance of getting on the green. Most of the tee boxes are in good shape but several have a lot of crabgrass in them, as do several of the fairways. They do have a lot (5) of tee positions to choose from which makes it nice for seniors but a couple of the par 4 holes are still too long for seniors. The carts are electric and very peppy. There are too many other nicer courses to choose from on the south side of Indy. I probably won't be coming back this year.

2 years ago, I think I rated this course as a 1-star. It was quite honestly the worst course I had ever played on, condition-wise. Under the new management (who I think has been there for 1 year), the course is back to its near pristine conditions. The course is challenging, yet not impossible to score well. Great course, and really professional staff! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for good golf around Indy! Had a group of 8 out there and everyone really enjoyed it.

This Course has made a great turnaround from where it was just a couple years ago. It is early in the season and already in good shape. The bunkers are improving and all the hard work by the staff really shows. I am very excited to see the course continue to get better. One of the best tracks in central Indiana is fun to play again. Keep up the good work.

I was privileged to work for the developer/owner when this course initially opened decades ago and found the course then to be challenging, interesting and unique amongst Central Indiana golf options, with near links-like look and feel on some holes, coupled with the more traditional parkland style we're accustomed to seeing here. Having revisited it following years of maturation, I was thrilled to find it not only lived up to those initial impressions, but has also grown to be a tough, yet fair, test of golf. Some rough spots here and there (fortunately most are well out of play) that appear to be scheduled for repair/addressing, but otherwise, a pretty darned fabulous golf course. With five or six different tee boxes, I'm sure there's a level of fun and difficulty for players of all skills. (As which tee box is best for your game!) For the price, I'd put it up against any course in terms of value. While the COVID-19 era impacts what can be expected from a service standpoint, the pro shop staff was as friendly and "hands-on" as possible, helping us get started on time, and inquiring about our experience afterwards. If you get a chance, add this to your rotation!

First time visitor to Heartland Crossing. Really enjoyed the course. The layout is wonderful. If you haven't been there before or not in a while, you should. Friendly and helpful staff made us feel welcome. Thank you

This course is returning to its original form and then some! The new owners are REALLY taking great care to repair the neglect this course has seen over the past years. Please take the time and play a round, the people are outstanding and you won’t regret it. It plays as a true links course should hard fast fairways and semi soft receptive greens. When you get to the course tell Ryan I sent you and receive nothing other then I want them to know the word is getting out..

Course was in great shape and play was very quick for a holiday. Every single group we caught let us though immediately. An absolutely incredible amount of bunkers, water, and heather which made for a tricky and enjoyable round.

Played 8/25 for $25. Course has improved tremendously over 2 years ago. The fairways are actually fairways again. 90% of the greens are in great shape. Just a few holes are the greens rough, and it's only small parts of the greens. Many of the tee boxes are looking better. Not as many weeds growing on them or crab grass taking over. The bunkers still need some help due to the rocks in them, but priority is the greens and they they have VASTLY improved them. You can tell the new owners have dedicated alot of time and effort into bringing Heartland back. Give it a try again if you crossed it off your list in the past.

We played 18 holes with a cart for $25.00 each. They have kept up with the watering this year and the greens and fairways are in good shape. If you haven't played this course for several years, you need to know that it is not really a Links course anymore. There is still plenty of sand around but a lot of the sand traps have been removed and a lot of work has gone into mowing the tall Heather grass back and opening up the fairways. There is still Heather but there is also nice fairway lanes where you can approach the greens. It's still a challenging course but it's actually playable for the rookies and pro's alike. I recommend giving this course a try and definitely call ahead to make reservations.

Last review from me wasn't so great, but everyone is deserving of a second visit. With this review I must say good and getting better every day. The new ownership continues to prove that the priorities at the course have changed for the better. If you haven't been in a while give it another shot, I did and I wasn't disappointed. Keep up the good work guys, the improvement fur sure is being noticed. Great job!

A tough but fair test of golf. The rough was too-long (but not management's fault...all this rain has been crazy).

#10 has a 'very temporary "green"'.

New, solid management-company is working hard to restore what was, and they're doing great!

Great routing & challenging holes. Pick your tees wisely. Most bunkers are playable. I will be back & this may be my new home-course

I am sad to say I will not return to this course, the conditions are downright horrific. It's a shame too as this course has everything for a challenging round, it just needs maintenance. I expect this course will close soon, although I hope things turn around somehow.

We played Saturday, the greens are burned up. They tryed to repair them, best advice is wait to play in 2019. They should hire a new greens-keeper or pay the water bill. If you play here dont keep score. Ask for a rain check.

Played this morning. The course is in genuinely bad shape. Most of the greens have large dead patches (#10 is to the point that they decided to mow down a small patch of the fairway and put the hole there instead of the green). Some fairways were in decent shape, some were dead and hardpan dirt. Same with the rough. Tee boxes are also not doing well. 2 stars because as usual the people working the clubhouse were very nice! The course would get 1 star on its own.

I hadn't played here in a few years and it doesn't look like I'll play here for a few more years. A picture says a thousand words. I know I don't like putting through a beach and there were beaches on at least 8 of the greens. Who ever is the greenskeeper might need to take a few more classes on course management. Other courses in the area aren't seeing these problems so I must assume it's the staffs issues with maintaining the course. I'd stay away from this course until they figure it out. If I had paid more than $15 on golf now on a Saturday I would have felt ripped off.

This place is trending downhill compared to courses in the area for what their green fees are. There are large brown patches on ever green, but at least the practice green is the same way so you can prepare for it. The fairways are good for the most part with some crabgrass moving in in certain areas. As far as the layout of the course goes, it has a lot of sand traps. Too much for my taste. And they are very large and deep as well. However, if you want a challenge, then this will give you one. Overall, I would think that most people good enough to enjoy this kind off challenge would have higher standard for the fairways and especially be greens. It's worth going if you find a good deal. We played 18 holes with cart for $17.00. Definitely worth that.

Played last year. Course conditions have gone down to the point it is not worth driving there. Will not go in that direction again until the course is under new management. Weeds growing inside the bunkers, watched as ground staff rode around the course taking some practice swings on a golf holes instead of actually taking care of them. Greens were not good. Fairways were worse and bunkers were unattended. Unfortunate. I played here a few years ago and it was a very nice course. Pretty telling that if you go to the website and want to view Course Photos you do not see any of the holes, only the event venues. It is an event place that happens to have a poorly maintained golf course attached.
