We joined ATB February 2024 and we could not be happier with our decision. From the first moment we stepped inside for a tour-we felt the warmth and welcome of the ATB community. The culture is top notch. My daughter joined when she was 13 and she ready for a change. We are so grateful for the welcoming and supportive community at Above the Barre Dance Academy! Our family relocated from another state in the middle of the year, and from the moment we walked through the doors, we felt at home. My daughter instantly fell in love with the studio, the staff, and the amazing dancers. She’s grown so much, both as a dancer and as a person, in the short time we've been here.

Above the Barre has been a transformative experience for my daughter!

She began as a shy recreational dancer, and over time, with the support and encouragement of the incredible instructors, she has blossomed into a confident competition dancer. The growth we’ve seen in her—both on stage and in everyday life—has been amazing.

The academy does well to teach the kids how to dance. However, when it comes to recital not all of the parents get good seating. My husband didn't even get a chance to see our Daughter Dance. As much money that gets put into even just one class, even if you get on the website the day of the it being posted to buy tickets and you still get crap seating. Very disappointing. On top of that, parking is crap, it's super crowded in the dance academy. They definitely play favorites. Your kid gets put in 2 shows because she is in two classes and the parents are expected to pay two different shows and so-called reimburse by putting the money on your account instead of legitimately giving you the money back for the second show and which also makes difficult for other Family Members to go. You have to complain enough to get the money back in you hand. They use the parents attitude and bringing complaints up to them against your child's performance and rather or not she can be in the different workshops. Mind you, there was no cussing or yelling when bringing up the complaints they just can't handle being told the truth. On top of that but seating and everything remains the same after numerous parents don't even have a seat in the place. We will be considering other options for next year since it seems like the only thing the dance academy cares about is the money they make and don't care about anything the parents think of say. Big problem while the parents are paying a lot of money to even attend one class at the Academy. They care more about their money than they do their children dancing since they use parent and staff interaction against their child's judgement for qualifications to join competition or to even keep the kids.

ATB has been such a blessing for my 2 girls. They love the instructors, owner (Kim), owner’s mother (Barb) and have made some very good friends for life with other students. ATB stepped up to help parents when schools closed, starting a program to help teach kids at the studio. I appreciate everything they do for us and all of the other parents I have become friends with. THANK YOU ATB!

My daughter was ready to give up on dance when at another studio as she was ready to try other types of dance besides ballet. We decided to try Above the Barre and she has excelled, gotten over her fear of being on stage and now I can't stop her moving and dancing at home! Every dance class is a tap/ballet combo for younger students, unlike a prior studio we were with. Plus the ATB studio is affiliated with Evolve gymnastics so they work together with scheduling. Their Acro and Gymnastic classes are awesome!

**Amazing Dance Studio!**

My daughter has been attending Above the Bare since she was just two years old, and we couldn’t be happier! From day one, the teachers have been incredibly patient, kind, and talented, nurturing her love for dance in a fun and supportive environment. The classes are well-structured yet full of creativity, allowing the children to grow in their skills while expressing themselves.

The studio has become like a second home for her. She’s not only developed her technique but also gained confidence, discipline, and friendships that will last a lifetime. The staff genuinely cares about each dancer’s progress and well-being, making sure every child feels valued.

ATB has been wonderful for my daughters who have been dancing there since they were 3 (8 years now). They started in the recreational classes which were great because its one night a week and they learn basic ballet, tap and technique each class. Now both daughters are competitive dancers and absolutely love their studio they call it their second home. The instructors teach proper technique and encourage the dancers both on and off the dance floor. The dances are choreographed both by teachers and prestigious choreographers from across the country. The costumes are age appropriate dancers always wear tights, and emphasis is placed on striving to always try your best, be kind and have fun! You will never find a better studio, a place we call home. My daughters are proud to represent ATB and they look up to the older dancers some who are now dancing at the collegiate level who continue to return to the studio.

We love ATB! This will be our third year on the Mini Rev Comp Team. Staff is one of a kind. They are supportive, encouraging, professional, fun and classes are well organized. They offer a variety of classes so there is something for everyone. The time that staff and volunteers put into making each recital, class and themed week is nothing short of amazing. We love Above the Barre! We have been going since my daughter was 2.
The staff, other parents, and student teachers are all top notch! We love all the older girls that help out and hope our little lady turns out to be just like them. The choreography is amazing and the staff make the weekly classes fun by including fun themes for each new season/month. My daughter loves learning to dance here.

While my daughter likes her teachers, and this is affordable, we’re seriously considering switching to a different dance studio due to the new facility. Above the Barre switched from two smaller (cramped) facilities to one larger facility. Sounds good right? Well, between the two previously there were roughly 100 parking spots, none of which required crossing a street to get to the studio. The new combined (so twice the students) facility? 6. Six parking spots (three of which are supposed to be for drop off, but are generally full for general parking). Every other spot for parents involves street parking on busy streets, all of which as far as I can tell are snow routes. The street directly across from the studio was full tonight with just 13 vehicles. Nearby business have started to put up Jersey barriers to prevent above the barre parents parking in their lot. In the winter getting in here is going to be a NIGHTMARE. I’ve watched the streets since we switched to this location and I’m not joking watched at least a dozen close calls with dancers and cars every night.

Parking is only part of it though. The previous studios had small waiting areas for parents. Standing room only frequently. New one is still much too small. Just about the size of the two previous combined, and I’m still having to stand in the lobby and help my daughter change between classes in the middle of the hallway.

We love Above the Barre...for many reasons. The dance training is top notch, but more important is the care and support you get from not only the staff and teachers, but the other parents. It's truly another family. The creativity stretches beyond their amazing choreography into the weekly class themes (and holiday activities) for the non-competitive kiddos as well. I am confident both of my girls are getting a well-rounded dance education while also learning wonderful life lessons and simply how to be a good human.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about ATB!! Both my girls love the friendships they have made there, they have amazing teachers and staff that make this place like a second family! Above The Barre has given my daughter the most positive and constructive introduction into the world of dance. My daughter joined ATB a month after her third birthday, and she was shy and uncertain in class. The instructors were encouraging, patient, and wonderful. Above The Barre is by far the BEST studio we’ve ever been to! Each and every instructor is exceptional from their phenomenal training to the genuine attention, care, and love for each student. And you can always rest assured that the choreography for each dance is always FANTASTIC no matter what age or level your dancer is at... I’m blown away by all the fun ideas they always come up with. It truly does feel like a family here and we are so thankful for all the wonderful friends we have found here. I highly recommend this studio to anyone looking for the best training, choreography, leadership, and fun with friends! We switched to this studio just this fall after a HORENDOUS experience at Studio A dance company. Unlike Studio A, the family that owns Above the Barre is kind, caring, and compassionate. There is always someone who knows what they're doing at the desk and the teachers are always smiling and excited about being at work. The owner is my child's teacher and her love for what she does and every student is such a breath of fresh air. My daughter has learned more in the 6 classes at Above the Barre than she has in the 9 months she attended Studio A. I would recommend Above the Barre to anyone that would listen.
