Taekwondo schoolAbout the Club
At Ames Parks & Rec Taekwondo we aim to provide the highest quality martial arts education. Both recreational practitioners and competitive athletes will find opportunities for personal development and achievement.
All students are instilled with the 5 Tenets of Taekwondo: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit.
We also aim to develop self-discipline, respect and self-awareness in all students—making taekwondo not just a sport, but a force for good in the world, and a guide for living life with respect for others and self. Students also learn the benefits of self-defense, confidence, leadership and cooperation.

APR Taekwondo is awesome! I (46) joined with 2 of my kids (14 & 10) two years ago and then my spouse and remaining 2 kids (12 & 5) joined last year. Exercise, family time, and fulfilling P.E. requirements for homeschooling were reasons for joining, but we have grown to love the community and the instructors' approach to not only challenge us physically but to encourage personal growth through the tenets of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control and indomitable spirit. The classes are fun and different every time. Come check it out!

We love APR Taekwondo! I (45) joined with my sons (10 and 14). We have all been challenged physically and mentally. What we have come to love most is the community. Master Carpenter and all the other instructors work hard to lay a foundation with the tenants by encouraging everyone to not only learn the tenants (integrity, perseverance, self control, indominable spirit, and curtesy) and what they mean, but also to learn how to apply them in our lives in and out of taekwondo. The result is a positive, encouraging, and supportive community. The advanced and intermediate classes are always willing to jump in and help lower classes with forms and one steps. Many advanced class participants have stopped me as I am coming or going and offered me words of encouragement or pointers to help me improve. I also love that it is an all ages program so we can do this as a family and participate and learn together.

Out of all the classes/activities that my child (she's 10) has done, this is the absolute best. I love how the instructors teach. They are rigorous, they make the kids work hard and practice hard, and learn Taekwondo forms and kicks the right way; while still being kind and nice to them. They give out stripes and belts only when you do things the right way (so the kid feels like they have earned it). I also really like what they talk about in the 5-minute discussion at the end of each class. I do wish all school subjects (Math in particular) were taught the same way!

Traditional Taekwondo School with opportunities to compete at the local, and national level. Experienced instructors with attention to detail, holding a positive, and personal growth oriented mindset for their students. The price is also very affordable.

We love the tkd classes! The teachers are amazing and the kids all have fun while learning important skills. The instructors also have real life applications for the skills. All around a wonderful program.
