UPDATE: They’ve decided to downsize and equipment is disappearing. This is easily the most rundown and poorly maintained Anytime I’ve been to. It’s no longer worth the short commute with being average size and falling apart.

These are just SOME of the photos of missing bolts and torn pads on the equipment I use. There’s at least 20 more photos I could take if I looked around.

It’s also the only Anytime I’ve been to in the last year that still requires key fob access, no app option.

I've been lifting here for about a month, just moved back to town from Ankeny. The differences are quite insane.

Since I've been here, I've never seen 1 person working here besides a personal trainer like twice. So good luck if you ever have to talk to an employee. They also closed a huge section stating it waa cause of "membership numbers and costing too much"

Cleaning towels, and bottles with cleaner are often barely filled or folded. The floors are filthy, and no employee ever cleans equipment.

Equipment is also run down to say the least. Another review has pictures. Theres been a pedal off of a bike for a month, the other one doesnt work. Leaving 1/3 and the 1 barely works. You can tell no one checks on the place daily.

For your money go to literally any other gym. Today will be my last day working out here.

I’m currently standing outside because I stepped out and forgot my key, if this was the middle of the night I’d understand not being able to get but in due to there being no staff. It is 5PM this is no reason why the gym should have no staff here, reading the reviews it seems like this is an ongoing problem with this location. Along side that problem it seems like to sanitize this gum equipment you are only providing a hand full of reusable towels, who knows how many times those are use and when they are washed, very unsanitary. Will definitely not be coming back to this location

Great gym, big variety of equipment. The restrooms and showers were very clean and they have towels. The dirt lot closeby makes it very accessible for truckdrivers.

There is quite literally no actual staff working at this gym so when you want to cancel or need them or something it is impossible to cancel your membership or you will never get the help you need. Stay away.

What an AWFUL company, there is never a single person working at any point of the day and there is absolutely NO WAY to cancel a membership, and it’s not like you can just call another location to cancel since they won’t have your account. I originally signed at the iowa city location but when i called them to cancel, they didn’t have my account anymore and told me to contact coralville, but for the last 5 days of calling at various times morning-afternoon and not a single call being picked up is god awful management. this is how they stay in business, by robbing people and never having a single worker scheduled so you’ll never be able to cancel your membership. DO NOT SIGN HERE OR GO HERE AS YOUR MAIN GYM !!!!!!

I cancelled my membership in September and I’ve been getting billed $80 per month since then and it is now February. I have called and left several voicemails and I have not been contacted about this at all. When I call customer service they are not able to help because of how it is franchised out. I do not recommend this location at all

You will not be able to get out of your membership. Go some where else. No one is ever in the office. No one returns calls or emails. Ridiculously priced. Even after contract you cannot get out of your membership. They continue to charge after you have sent a written letter to their PO Box stating that you want to cancel your membership. Customer service is no help. You can get such a better gym experience somewhere else. Save your money and energy.

This is the largest and best equipped anytime I’ve been to. The one I belong to has a few things that I wish they’d add. This has it all. Extra dumbbells. Lots of kettle bells. Lots of space. Lots of mirrors. I was impressed. Been to at least 8 Anytime locations due to travel. Great setup. Thank you!!

I mean compared to a lot of facilities, this one sucks. For the price you pay this one is bad as a building staff is unprofessional and kind of creepy (other than one of the trainers), though any time as a corp is out of their mind with the prices for a facility that has less and cost more than the rec center in town. NO COMMUNICATION WHAT SO EVER. I’ve been at this gym for about 9 months, moved out of the area and tried to transfer membership, called every day for a week and got no call back. Sign up fees are insanely expensive and I was promised a free personal training session and no one ever reached out me.

The gym is small and always dirty and smells so bad. I’ve been there at all hours of the day and no one ever cleaned it. Really sad that I had to spend $75 a month on a place like this.

Price gouging is a problem and no transparency. Sign-on price, I was told, was 200$ plus the monthly 80$ or so "due to COVID and other gyms closing". They are barely concealing their acts of price gouging. Because of this, I wanted to see their plans and wanted to be directed towards more information so I can select my plan carefully. I was told you can't find that information online and they had no pamphlet or paper ready to show me. Please do not sign up here unless you are down so bad you are willing to sell your left nut to be here. Wait til the price drops or look elsewhere.

I’ve seen way nicer, cleaner, better equipped gyms who don’t charge a initiation fee of $200. If he’s paying everyone that much, you’d think the place should look a lot nicer and have better equipment. He wasn’t clear on the fact that the down payment was un-refundable, even though the conformation email clearly states that if I cancel within three business days, I could cancel the membership and get any money I paid (IN ANY WAY OR FORM) back. It was a lie, I used the gym once and they still expected me to pay even though I told them I wanted to cancel, cute right? Luckily they are not getting any money from me! They’re honestly hilarious!

The gym is not clean, weights are just left everywhere and not organized, the machines aren't maintained very well, the clean suppliers are over used and not changed frequently, and the equipment is limited. By far the most dirty gym I have ever been to. I'd highly recommend you pay a little bit more and go to any other gym in the area

I’ve been using anytime fitness for the last 3 years, and this is by far the nicest one I’ve been to. The trainers are friendly and inviting, you can tell they want to be there. The gym itself has a ton of space, with a couple dozen cardio machines and plenty of free weight equipment. The only thing that it doesn’t have is an adductor/abductor machine for legs, really that’s the only drawback in my mind

Contract SCAM!!

The management and staff are extremely unprofessional and inappropriate. They talked us into putting our account on hold when we moved out of town to an area without a gym, but failed to mention we would be charged for that period when restarting the membership. They charged us for SIX months of no use!! Then it was $50 to cancel the membership on top of those fees. Not to mention, it required a certified letter from our new address.

Aside from that, the facility itself is small and extremely limited! Save your self money and a huge headache! Planet Fitness is a much better option, no contact and better communication. DO NOT work with this gym.

This gym is highly disappointing. I had been charged two months of fees while the gym was closed due to the pandemic and was told there was nothing they could do about it. After I told them I was relocating to a city that was too far from an Anytime Fitness I was told to put the account on hold and it would be more beneficial for me to do that. However, I was not told I would still be getting charged through out the time my account was on hold for “gym fees” and now that it’s been almost a year since I’ve used my account I’ve been trying to get it closed and it’s the most aggravating process I’ve ever seen. I am highly disappointed and will never do business with an Anytime Fitness ever again.

I signed up prior to COVID19 and prior to my move across the country to temporarily have access to a gym. I informed the owner that I would be moving soon and he offered me all the options, such as transferring my membership and canceling. Due to my graduate program offering a gym, I had to cancel my membership and completed all the necessary steps. However, I saw that I had some strange charges on my account. While I was very upset about the billing and became frustrated in all the work in trying to pin down where the charges are coming from, Tony (the owner) immediately contacted me after voicing my concern. He calmly explained the charges and where the complications came from as well as what can be done to remedy the situation. Overall, wonderful service from a personable owner.

So I signed up today at this gym with Tony (manager/owner?). He was very helpful in explaining the process and gave me tour of the gym. Gym looks clean and nice bathrooms. I see lots of people complaining about the cancellation but thats not the case as my parents successfully canceled their subscription after it was completed. Looking forward to workout here!

As multiple reviews have stated, you should simply avoid this gym at all costs... The management is extremely crooked and unethical... They are happy to intentionally mislead people into signing long term contracts by using deceptive practices throughout the contract process. As multiple reviews have stated, when you request to cancel, management will be completely unresponsive... The commentary I've received numerous times is "I can't give out the managers phone number, but he'll call you soon".

It's been 6 months, and after multiple requests, I've yet to hear from management... I honestly don't understand how these people live with themselves... I would suggest you consider any other gym in the Iowa City area before Anytime Fitness.

DO NOT JOIN. LITERALLY A RACKET. The financial company ABC Financial will not let you leave. I've been a member of this gym for 2 years but have to cancel because I am moving out of state.

When I called to cancel I: 1. Was told I had to call ABC Financial instead. 2. Had to sit through a ridiculously long wait period to get to an actual human because their automated call system does not have any account management options. 3. Found out that I actually had to send a written cancellation notice to some P.O. Box in Arkansas through CERTIFIED MAIL (which costs 7x more than regular mail) and requires you to go during business hours to a certified mail provider. 4. I will continue to be charged until 30 days AFTER they receive and process this letter, however long that will be.

Regular mail is good enough for the IRS but not for ABC Financial only because they want to squeeze every last dime out of you they can - a racket. Save yourself the trouble and go to another gym. This gym isn't worth all that.
