Coach James is the best! We did the baby swim class with him. He was always really patient, trusted that the parents knew their baby the best and what they'd be ok with, and he even remembered my daughter's favorite color when giving out the little rings and fish for them to play with. We learned great skills on introducing our baby to the water from him, water safety, and things we can continue to practice at home during bath time. He interacted well with the babies and my daughter went from being afraid of the water during the first lesson, to smiling and laughing by the end of lessons.

Our daughter went from terrified of the water to not being able to get her out of the pool in under a year. Extremely happy with everyone at Aqua Tots for giving her that confidence in the water so us as parents can relax when she is around water.

We have a little Tadpole who started at about 6 months old and wasn't too keen on getting in the pool. Coach Lylah has done a fantastic job getting her increasingly comfortable and even happy in the water. She is very patient and encouraging, and it's evident that she enjoys watching her students grow and learning to love swimming. Aqua-Tots' program for the littlest ones is well structured and does a good job preparing them for the next Level.

It’s been 2 months since we enrolled our 8 yr old for 2 classes/week. So far we are loving the instructors - Elijah & Molly. Katelyn (front desk) has been great with scheduling the make up classes. Staff is welcoming & willing to answer questions. I do see reviews about kids not getting promoted to next level. But my daughter just got leveled up from 3 to 4 in just 5 classes. Let’s see how it goes from here. My daughter is loving it so far.

Molly Campbell is absolutely amazing with kids! She combines professionalism with a fun and nurturing approach that really brings out the best in young swimmers. Our children went from being nervous around water to loving their lessons and making real progress. We highly recommend her to any family looking for a great swimming instructor!

Coach Molly is phenomenal. My girls love her, and look forward to her classes every day!!
Currently, we do two lessons a week, plus fast track with Molly. My oldest has gone up 2 levels in a week, and my youngest is getting ready to graduate level 3. Molly is patient, kind, and has a great teaching style. She was meant for this role, and I'm glad we lucked out with having her as our coach. 10/10 reccomend aqua tots, but especially coach Molly. The confidence she has given my girls in the water is immeasurable!!

Aqua-Tots has been great my daughter has struggled with different swim classes in the past and Molly has been so helpful these past few weeks. My son has had a handful of swim lessons with Lyla and asks to go back even before we leave the building! She makes swim lessons fun but without any pressure on the kids to do something they aren’t comfortable with. Couldn’t ask for a better instructor to teach my child to swim!

On my 4th kiddo to participate in Aquatots swim lessons. Clean facilities, both the pool and changing areas. Plenty of space to sit and watch your child's swim lessons. Easy to schedule times and make-up lessons, either with the app or through a phone call. Fun, kind and caring coaches. Definitely recommend this site to teach your child to swim.

Aqua-Tots swim school requires corporate intervention. While the "coaches" are kind and my child did learn some new skills, she plateaued at the tadpoles level and was not graduated because she could not sit still. I understand the importance of safety, but she is only three. Suggesting that private lessons, which cost three times my current rateβ€”are the best option, while keeping her in the same level for three months for "safety" reasons, is unacceptable. I’ve decided to take my business elsewhere. We now attend SafeSplash, where my child enthusiastically looks forward to swim lessons each week. In contrast, Aqua-Tots has unclean facilities, is primarily staffed by teens and very young adults, and seems to keep children in the same level far too long just to take more money. I would not recommend them at all!

We enrolled our daughter nearly a year ago now, and it's one of the best decisions we've made. She loves her lessons, we love how she's smiling through every single one. And we love knowing she's learning what she needs to always be safe near water/pools.

We started here in Spring 2021 and had amazing coaches for 1.5 years. Our son quickly progressed through 2 levels in 1.5 years. He has now been in Level 4 classes since Feb 2023 (it is now March 2025) with constantly switching coaches and the same basic skills being practiced each week. I called in January 2025 to ask about what the plan is to get him progressing and was made promises about progress updates and managers being engaged in his class times. Over the next month, I still received no updates and no follow-up communication from the manager. In addition, the facilities had gone downhill. The bathrooms are constantly dirty with broken sinks, and the ceiling tiles are caving in in the front lobby.

When I called again last week to follow-up, I found out there was new management. The new management reached out to me with a promise to "make things right" and promised to waive the 30-day cancellation. However, this only means that I don't have to physically sign a form, but they will still charge me for this month. They had the nerve to say that I am obligated to pay the last month because of the contract I signed when we first started... but apparently they are not obligated to provide the services that they promised in the same contract?? I don't see how this is "making things right." They also offered additional classes, but clearly this has not been helping him for two years, so I'm not sure how that is helping to "make things right." Lastly, they offered to put a credit on our account in case we want to come back in the future. I'm not sure why we would ever come back to a company who wastes our time and money to this extent.

If you would like your child to actually make progress in a swim class and have people respect your time and money, I do not recommend this swim school.

Aqua Tots has really quality coaches who are great to work with and make the experience fun and effective. My three year old can float on his back for 10+ seconds which makes my mom heart so happy to know he is building skills that will keep him safe in the water.

We've been taking our son here for almost three years. For the first couple of years, it was decent. We liked the instructors, and although I thought the teaching method was a little slow, we stuck with it.

But over the last year this place has gone completely downhill. The turnover is constant, so my son has a different teacher almost every week. He's been in the same level for almost the whole year. I finally emailed to ask at what point they would move him to the next level, especially since his skills matched the requirements on the website. I was beginning to suspect they were keeping him the same class to make more money off of us (we paid a monthly fee, and I hadn't seen any other kids graduate for quite some time either). They never responded. I emailed again, but still nothing. So I told them we were cancelling our membership. That got a response, but they told us we had to do it in person and give a 30-day notice. I told them I'd come in, but considering how many lessons they'd cancelled on my son for pool and instructor problems, we weren't paying any more money. They responded, claiming they'd cancelled our account. But yesterday I got charged the monthly fee again, and unsurprisingly, they have not responded to my emails asking for a refund.

Don't give this place your time or money. It's become a scam. And the facility has gone down hill and is quite gross.

This is not a safe place to take your kids. Between staff quitting and last-minute cancelled lessons, the thirty-day drop policy, uncleanliness, and dangerous pool conditions, Aqua-Tots is beyond frustrating. I’ve seen full trash bags laying around, bathrooms with no toilet paper, cockroaches, a pool so cold the kids wouldn’t get in, and parents taking their kids all the way to class in the middle of a snowstorm only to be told they had cancelled lessons. That’s to say nothing of predatory policies like the thirty-day drop formβ€”if you’re like countless parents and wanted to pull kids out of lessons because of poor conditions immediately, you’ll still be forced to pay for an extra month of lessons. The front desk staff have no idea what they’re doing half the time. Also, seeing how the staff mistreats each other, it doesn’t seem like a safe place for the average employee either. Don’t take your kids here.

Update: One month later: Place is still disgusting. Overlflowing trash cans. No toilet paper. They have been out of prizes for the kids for 3 weeks in a row now. We are cancelling our membership.
Original:
The lessons are well done however the place itself is disgusting. I don't know how many times it has been brought to the staff's attention that there are cockroaches in the changing table, bandaids that you see on the floor week after week after in the same spot, that the paper goods aren't getting refilled or just the smell of the place some weeks. Again, lessons great... Building disgusting. It also makes me worry about the chemical levels in the pool if they can't even clean the floors or spray for bugs.

We love AQUA-TOTS! Both hour boys absolutely LOVED going to their lessons twice a week all summer! (2024) They both had minimal swim training prior to this summer but now they are a lot more confident around & competent, in the water, after their time with Aqua-tots. The staff, coaches, supervisors and administrators were all very friendly and kind to students, accommodating to parents and families, & always willing to work hard to meet the needs of the swimmers. We will definitely be going back next summer so the boys can continue on learning and leveling up!

The instructor - Kenny - has been amazing. She's great with my son and I've watched him make continued progress. We've had 3 months of lessons with her. And I would 100% keep coming back just to continue with her IF there hadn't been issues with customer service/front desk.

I was told that there were Black Friday deals (Nov '23) and that we had to call in ON Black Friday to get them. So while out of state visit family, I stopped everything to call in and then again had to drop everything to take a return call because there was an issue with aquatots phones not working and they wanted to call me back... They told me what the rates were for these "great" "Black Friday only" deals. So I signed up for a 3 month package.

Then we started lessons and I asked the front desk about costs to continue them when the 3 months were up because I loved how great things were with Kenny. And they quoted me the exact same price I had already been paying. One of the staff said I should have received a free session or two in the package, but I didn't. And they didn't offer to correct that or do that. So again - full price paid for what they told me was a special one day only deal.

Then I received an email 2 months into our 3 month package saying my last session was happening the following week. I still had 5 more sessions that I paid for. I replied to that email upset that they were trying to cancel our sessions early AND I brought up the pricing.

The response did not apologize or take any responsibility, and they said that I must have been quoted the old pricing. That still doesn't make sense. That STILL means that what I was sold in November was the exact same price as normal sessions and it wasn't a sale or deal, even if they were raising their prices now (Feb '24) - so I was lied to in November. Again, no apology for the email trying to cancel our 3 month package a month early. No apology or attempt to rectify that I was charged regular price on something I was told was a sale...

And so, it was because of THAT response that I decided to not continue with aquatots when our 3 month plan ends. It's sad because we love Kenny and I would have kept coming back for semi-private or private lessons with her indefinitely.... but not when a company is trying to end a 3 month package after 2 months and not when I'm going to be lied to about pricing.

Great swim school. Both of our kids have been going here for a year. The lessons are 30 mins in length, and the classes are a max of 4 people, so there is good one on one time with the instructor. Floor to ceiling glass panes with seats all around for easy viewing of the kids. After each lesson, the instructor informs you how the kid did, along with what they need to work on.

Complete racket! 7 weeks of classes. One week the coach says work on front float. Back float is great. Next week coach says work on back float. Front float is great. Flip flops every week. This is a good starting point but after a year the cracks really start to show. The cost it’s a bit much for a lesson even if u do one a week it’s still 90$ a month for 30 min lesson. If you schedule a makeup and end up not making it you will get charged for it and not get another opportunity to reschedule that lesson again. The staff has been turning over faster and faster. If you cancel ur membership u get 30 days to use whatever make ups u have after that notta. If you have a busy family schedule this is not the place for u.

We've been coming to Aqua-Tots for 3yrs now. There has been a lot of staff turn around, but that is normal as students go back to college. This causes last minute cancelations as there is no instructor available for a scheduled session. All this is very understandably frustrating and causing a lot of negative reviews. All that said, the staff is very nice. I can call to setup a make up class anytime, or I can do this myself on the website. Regardless of the staff turn around my daughter is still advancing through the levels. There has been a change in management. Brandon is amazing. He's doing an awesome job in putting events together for the kids. Today is the first Summer 2022 games. We showed up earlier than expected, and they were not ready, yet he still made time for our daughter to participate so she didn't miss out. That is the kind of place Aqua-Tots is.

Horrible experience and worst staff at desk. Make up classes policy is a big lie here. My kids loved the classes and the instructors. Grace was wonderful with the kids! When classes were canceled on the spot due to accidents in the water, I was understanding and used it as a teachable moment for my kids. However, classes were canceled so often; each of my kids had 6 classes to make up at the end of 3 months. About ever other class was canceled, but no way to make it up or refund the money. The manager was not helpful and told me to check online for makeup options, however the website did not work and when I brought this to his attention, he stated β€œkeep trying” my husband sent an email online asking for assistance and never got a response back. Sadly we had to walk away with a total of 12 classes we were not able to makeup.

I am super disappointed in our experience at Aqua tots. We took our 13 month there for level 2 classes since we asked for gift cards for his birthday. The first few classes were great and my child loved it and is now comfortable around water. However, we started having issues after being there for a month. They were constantly canceling classes and would only give 30 minute notices. We had 5 classes canceled in a row even our make up classes. One time I was walking in door 10 minutes before class started and they told us it was canceled because pH was to high, which is understandable, but why did they not know until 10 minutes before?? We did classes March to June and we had a total of 8 classes to make up, but not able to make up any of them since there were no makeup classes available. There was never a manager on site or someone to help us figure out of gift card issues and to this day I still haven't heard back from a manager regarding being refunded the $98 they charged us even though we paid with gift cards. Every time I called they said a manager wasn't there and I would need to wait a few days for a call. I will NEVER return to an aqua tots again. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME HERE.

Hard pass until Aqua-Tots in West Des Moines gets their management under control. In our first swim lesson, our 3-year-old daughter almost drowned. The instructor had his back to her as she was struggling, splashing and gasping for air right behind him. Watching this, I banged on the glass and then ran into the swimming area to help her. My daughter is okay, but what if I hadn't been paying attention? Swim instructors have a duty and responsibility. Our children's lives are literally in their care.

We used to absolutely love Aqua tots. Unfortunately things have really changed. Classes frequently get canceled because instructors do not show up or there are problems with the pool. It is incredibly difficult to schedule makeup classes. As a result I am out hundreds of dollars in pre paid classes. My 3-year-old has a really hard time because his instructor keeps changing. As a result he cries and screams every time. I requested having my older child use his many remaining classes. This unfortunately is against their policy so I am out hundreds of dollars. I would have liked to have spoken with a manager. I called multiple times and was told that the manager would call me back. I am now done trying and just taking this as a loss.

We were traveling for these swim lessons for our children, and their session was cancelled 20 minutes before the class because they did not have enough instructors for a SCHEDULED class. When we called to do the make-up lesson, they refuse to do so unless we pay another full month and add it to the month, even though the lesson is already paid for. I really wanted to love Aqua-Tots, and am utterly disappointed in their lack of doing what is right and what is best for children and focusing on money instead. I understand if we are unable to fulfill our lesson, but when the lessons cannot be fulfilled because of the instructors, that is on Aqua-Tots yet they do not want to take responsibility for it. Very poor focus on the customers. I would never recommend this to anyone.

We're very happy at Aqua Tots. The curriculum, at least at my toddler's level, is based on his developmental stage and is designed to maximize that factor. And our swim coach has clearly mastered that knowledge, as well. I've been so impressed with it. My toddler has good days and not-so-awesome days with being in the pool, and the coach knows exactly how to handle it no matter how my child is feeling. Because of that he never has a "bad" day at lessons.

Way over priced and we had a terrible experience. The instructor didn't take the time to explain anything to me during the first lesson, just rushed us through their predetermined "steps," including full submersion of the child within the first three minutes of the lesson with no instructions on how to facilitate this (e.g. blow air into their face so they close their eyes and hold their breath). The pool is over crowded as they are teaching 5 different classes at a time so the atmosphere is just overwhelming. Everything felt rushed and when I tried to step aside to calm my son, who was freaking out, I was scolded for not participating. Kids will get upset at new experiences sometimes so I don't blame them for mine being upset but I didn't like that they were totally unwilling to work with us or acknowledge our needs. And since there is a month long processing period on cancellations, even though I cancelled our membership after that first lesson, I still paid these jerks $150 altogether.
What I'm trying to say is: the YMCA has a Water Babies class - non members pay $40 for 4 classes with experienced teachers (not high school kids). Classes are still only 30 minutes but the teachers take time to work with you and let you go at a slower pace if your child needs some time to adjust to the water. Don't waste your money at Aqua Tots.

Faculties are awesome and each of them are very friendly and also on the same time they balance the discipline and make sure kids will learn the swim.

Also facilities are nicely maintained with warm pool and one more major thing is easy schedule of any missed classes.

Small thing - they provide lollipops to kids after they complete the class which is really good compliment for kiddos :)

All in all very nice place to have kids learn swim here in an enjoyable way !!!

The team at Aqua-tots does a great job teaching the kids. They work hard and have fun with the kids. Our children have learned quickly and enjoy the swim lessons. Definitely a great choice.

My daughter was always a little scared of the water and swimming lessons. This morning she said she couldn't wait until Monday because that's when she has Aqua-tots (for more context, it's Friday when she said this).

Knowledge and expertise of the staff and my sons enthusiasm before, during, and after swim class. We are so pleased and thankful to have AquaTots to teach our son to swim.

We love Aqua-tots! We have been taking our almost 10 month old for about 3 months and she loves it. Zach has been great at making all of us comfortable and it's so fun to watch her progress every week. If you are looking for something to do as a family + have your child learn something so important, I recommend!

Love each of the attention that my children receive and that they can move up whenever they are ready - that its not based on when the class ends. I also love getting feedback from the instructors at the end of each class.

My son has made huge gains in the program. From a kid that was scared to get in the water to being able to go in with out a float. Such a big change in the way he feels about water. There are incredible instructors that push him to do his best every time he is there.

The instructors truly care about my daughter. They make learning fun and push her to progress as well. The warm water is awesome. The entire time can be spent on swimming, not getting used to the water :-)

I absolutely love this place! My wife and I have been taking our son Gabriel here since he was about 7 months old. We originally did 2 days a week but just recently went up to 3 because we all enjoy it so much! The staff is extremely polite, professional and well trained! With some even having paramedic level medical training (That helps to put the mind of a new parent at ease!) The staff also put safety and fun at the top of the list of priorities when engaging with the kids! Additionally the facility is always immaculently clean! They have all kinds of special events that seem really fun, although my wife and I have yet to take our son to one. Overall I highly recommend Aqua Tots. It is a great way to not only teach your child valuable skills, but also to spend valuable one on one time with them while having lots of fun!

Spectacularly poor customer service. Bunch of amateurs running the operation. Sometimes I wonder if the lack of professionalism will also reflect on the safety measures for tots ?

The place is under new management and has vastly improved. My prior issues with the management have been resolved and I no longer have scheduling or instructional problems. It's a clean, safe and family friendly facility. It provides great small group and attentive lessons that my children appreciate.

We absolutely LOVE taking our kids here! After a number of failed classes elsewhere, my 6 year old is now swimming on her own and my 4 year old loves the water and he, too, has already graduated a level and moved on to the next. The instructors seem to really love what they do--and it shows!

We had a very discouraging experience with Aqua Tots. Our 3 year old has taken and done well at swim lessons at other locations but his one and only lesson at Aqua Tots was terrifying to him. At one point he was told to be quiet, and not kindly so. He was also pressured into dunking his head and told to hold his breath when he was obviously scared. He told us he never wanted to go to swim lessons again after his experience when previously he had loved swimming when taking lessons at the Y. Unfortunately, we brought up our concerns with management and they were dismissed. We will not be returning to Aqua Tots and I won't be recommending them to any friends/family.

We absolutely adore Aqua-Tots! It is a relaxed, friendly environment and really just feels like visiting family. The manager goes above and beyond her duties to get to know every family on a personal level (as do the instructors) so that the kids feel completely at home. This is one activity the entire family looks forward to every week! You cannot beat the smile on my kids' faces as they wait excitedly for their lessons to begin and the even bigger smiles when they are actually in the water learning. We love the coaches an feel very blessed to have finally found a swimming home after years of public pool lessons, private lessons and health club lessons. This is definitely the best by far. My kids started out terrified of the water and now can swim the width of the pool in less than a year!

I purchased a Groupon and they showed that they have classes available, but when I called to sign up my daughter, they indicated that they had too many folks buy the groupon and I would have to wait to use it. Do they only offer so many "Groupon Slots" per month? This is not the level of service I expect especially if I want to be a repeat customer! I will call back in Mid-November but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth from the start about conducting further business. And if classes are full, then they need to update their website or post a message about their Groupon.

Our family has been going to Aqua-Tots in West Des Moines, IA since they opened. We were quickly impressed with the quality of instruction, the genuine care for kids, and the fantastic facilities. Children who previously had a fear of water, now don't like to get out of the water! There is also a great community at Aqua-Tots, with several special events for the member families throughout the year.
We have recommended Aqua-Tots to many friends and family.

Awesome trained instructors- warm water- no waiting lists! My daughters have improved so much & so quickly since moving lessons to here! Another benefit- you can make-up any lessons you miss & they are super flexible about it.

The management is awful. They are all to personally involved, they put them selves before the costumers. The general manager is full of her self and sets a bad example to her employees. She is constantly on her phone. Personally I don't think some one that young should be running a store. She talks about her costumers not in a good way. TERRABLE MANAGMENT!

We joined Aqua Tots for private lessons after trying swim lessons at other places in group settings. We have had a great experience the past few months. My son has moved 3 levels after working one on one with Aaron. All staff is extremely helpful and kind. Would most definitely recommend.

My 4 year old daughter loves swimming here! She has improved so much in such a short time. The coaches here are wonderful with her, she has a fun time while still being challenged. The atmosphere is so nice at aqua tots, tropical music, bright colors, clean pool and an awesome changing area equipped with swim suit dryer, detangler spray and hair dryers. The staff is always willing to help and the coaches provide constructive criticism. I also like how the kids are rewarded for following the rules and being safe. I would highly recommend this place!

This place is great! My son loves it! The instructor is just the right combination of firm and fun. And the lady who runs the desk is so friendly. I like that they have the pool in a glass enclosure, so you can sit "poolside" in comfy chairs without the threat of getting wet. They also have a nice area to change the kids after lessons, complete with private changing stalls, hair dryers, detangling spray and q-tips! It's a great place to go for swim lessons without having to sign up for a pricey gym membership.
