We visited mid day, mid week on a vacation. We were the only ones there from 12-3. I can imagine that it gets crowded on weekends or evenings. The gym was clean, and there were a lot of routes. The routes are designed for different skill levels, which is great. A nice addition would be a kids wall with holds that are a little closer together as even a lot of the easier routes are designed for teens and up who have a little more reach. There were six of us that climbed, and everyone had a great time.

I wasn't able to climb, but my family had a great time. It's a small space , but they use it very well. Nice people and very clean. Worth trying it out.

A gorgeous gym with thoughtfully set routes! The grading feels accurate, and there are good technical routes even for beginners which I really appreciate seeing. Thereβs great local art along the walls, and frequent wall resets as well.

Beautiful, clean, state of the art climbing gym. Iowa needs more climbing gyms and this place is a blessing. Right next to Iowa state campus. Go hawks lol but fr come check out this awesome gym, doesnβt matter if you are brand new or an OG boulder beast you will feel welcome!

Finally got to visit Bluestem Boulders in Ames! Here is my honest review! Totally different feel from what iβm used to in an Iowa gym. Climbing here made me feel the joy i remembered getting when i first began climbing 3 years ago. The gym is huge, over 3000 square feet of pure bliss. The holds are unique, fun, and super grippy. Each problem is set with a lot of intention and care. The grades felt spot on and i felt like i could climb things and touch holds i never would have attempted in (cough cough) *other* Iowa gyms. We also got to chat with the owner, Brian, about our shared passions for climbing and Iowa tallgrass prairie conservation (hence the name, Bluestem Bouldersπ) Such a great guy and you can really tell just by stepping into his gym how much he loves what he does. Whether youβre brand new to climbing, a seasoned pro looking for something more refreshing, or youβre yearning to put the bouldering spark back in your eye, go check out Bluestem!!

Incredible gym, incredible owners. If you want to climb on some of the best setting, grab a workout, train on the TB2, or just have a fun time trying something new, itβs PERFECT!!! So awesome to have a gym of this caliber in the Ames community.

Must stop "shop" in Ames! I had the opportunity to check out and climb bluestem boulders their opening weekend. The gym has your typical amenities for it's size, these include a beautiful tension board, a smaller weights/fitness center and a brand new U shape bouldering space. With 2 gender neutral bathrooms and cubby space, there is plenty of room to get ready before your climbing session. With 3 Large walls on the outside of the U and 3 more walls rounding the inside of the U there are lots of amazingly set routes varying in difficulty for all types of climbers, including those who have never climbed before. When I'm next in Ames I will be sure to comeback!
