I’ve been to many different CrossFit gyms throughout the country and it’s rare to find one where people with little exercise experience can feel comfortable coming every day. At 8035 they absolutely foster this environment. It’s great to see people feel comfortable improving their health every day at 8035.

TL;DR: Look no further. This is the gym you want to workout at while you’re in Des Moines.
I know we talk about the community aspect of CrossFit ad nauseam, but this place has the absolute secret sauce. I dropped-in to CrossFit 8035 for two weeks while I was in town with a show at The Civic Center and it made me never want to leave Des Moines. Abby (trainer) was an attentive and welcoming trainer and was just phenomenal to be guided by from class to class. Every now and then Luke (the Owner) would be in class and we had great conversation and he’s just an all around great dude. Strictly personally speaking, the 11:30 express class has my entire heart. The people at this gym are remarkable and 5 stars simply isn’t a high enough rating. The programming is challenging but absolutely doable and they even integrate BUILT programming for those people who want to focus on building muscle through a way other than the classic MetCon.
In short. If you are from Des Moines, join this gym. If you are traveling through Des Moines, drop into this gym. Moral of the story… this gym is IT.

Great experience with Coach Abby! My first time at Cross Fit.. I was sure I was gonna die but everyone was super welcoming. Coach Abby helped modify some exercises for me -without judgement - so I could get the most out of the hour. Strongly recommend this place and these people!

Nice gym with a great atmosphere. They have a lot of great equipment. All the cardio machines you can need plus no shortage of weights. I dropped in and just did open gym and the coach was very accommodating. Can’t wait to visit Des Moines again to drop in.

Amazing floor space, great equipment set up, and so welcoming to drop-ins and new members!
I recently traveled to Des Moines for a 2-week work trip; finding CrossFit 8035 was a total game changer! Abby helped get me set-up with a punch pass option for my trip and was so helpful and available for questions both during set-up and my time there. As for the facility - the huge floor-space and rig set-up felt so luxurious and allowed for plenty of individual spacing and any equipment you could possibly need. My favorite part was the 24/7 open-gym access which facilitated a time and space to work on skills and lifts I've been needing more time on, and plenty of space to video and critique myself without the constraints of a class setting. It was very cool to get that extra time and freedom in training for a couple weeks.

The members are like a family and ALL pitch in the keep the gym clean and always helping other out in class! I do personal training with Coach Abby. She has been a blessing to my workout routine teaching me adaptive lifting skills!

Overall, it was a great gym with a great staff. Coach Abby is the best employee there as she withholds a tremendous amount of experience and expertise in her approach to coaching the classes. However, switching from the morning class to the evening class was detrimental. I would not recommend this gym if you intend to conduct janitorial activities after your workout. When leaving a workout this evening, I was forced to mop the floor because of the sweat being on it? As a result, the owners suggested that I was “not a good fit,” (Reiland, Abi) due to me refusing to mop their floors for them after my CrossFit class. The behavior of the staff member Davey Jergens stating “It’s apart of being a good human,” (Jergens) because they did not want to mop the floor was excused by the owner as being a “young profession,” (Reiland, Abi). In contrary, the owner then states “ I’m absolutely open to keeping you as a member and improving our overall approach, but also don’t want to give the impression that you have an exception. That wouldn’t be fair for anybody,” (Reiland, Abi). I cannot make this up and want to be as transparent as possible despite refusing to conduct janitorial activities post workout. Do not plan on sweating in class because you will be responsible for “cleaning your bodily fluids,” (Reiland, Abi). I only wrote this review to provide transparency and the fact that they would prefer losing a member and telling them they are not a good fit versus finding a solution for cleaning (their) gym, and having responsibility or accountability.
Sincerely,

I've been to many Crossfit gyms across the US and this is one of the best. The only place I've paid regular membership to in my 6 years of Crossfitting.
Great coaches and ALWAYS a great workout!

Yeah, I guess when two of us were told that we didn't have to pay again until November 5, that was miscommunication, like how it wasn't communicated that I had paid at all.

One of the best, most accommodating CrossFit’s I’ve ever been to. Would recommend to anyone, regardless of skill level. Also very accommodating for drop ins. I had the best experience there, the owners and staff are top notch and care greatly about the experience you have as well as the improvement you make as an individual.

Enjoyed my workout with the other nocturnal athletes at 5am. Really nice facility with plenty of space for the WoD/Metcon activities as well as additional/breakout space to focus on additional work. Coach Drew was awesome and worked his way around the class to provide feedback on movements. The community was extremely welcoming, supportive, and encouraging during the WoD and in the breakout area. Look forward to dropping in again when visiting Des Moines.

The workout was good the facilities were decent but limited. Not one bench press or any dumb bells. Took an intro for beginners class. Crossfit is very expensive and I personally don't see the value. For example David Barton gym in downtown Chicago is 120 ish a month with 3 personal training sessions a month included. And it is extremely awesome with cutting edge music, posh atmosphere, literally the coolest steam room I've ever seen, every free weight station and machine ever invented, designer hair products, lotion, musk, all free in locker room, many styles of group fitness classes... etc you get the picture. For $150 a month The biggest thing crossfit pushed was Olympic lifts, the community of crossfit and that you will have a better life... that's literally what they said give me a break. Espically considering the fact that when I was trying to figure out an odd body movement some rhybosaurus yelled at me about how I was doing it wrong. Also I went way too hard at the beginning of the workout and got smoked halfway through. From there the crossfit vets from another class strait up gave me looks of contempt and acted all superior as I was totally lagging. Here is my cross fit lifehack for free. Work out 6 days a week, do paleo diet, push your self in every lift you do, make very quick transitions from one lift to another to keep it cardio, throw in power clings, hang clings, push press, squats and lunges, work on you biceps and lats with the lat pull down bar until you can do a proper pull up without using your bodies momentum (aka kips). And do group fitness classes at the Y (free with $40 membership) for the "community". Smile all the way to the pool/steam room while thinking about all the things you can do with the $110 you saved.
