You’ll see a lot of 5 star reviews here, I had one as well because I was offered a discount when signing up to do so.

Heres my real review:

Expect some not previously disclosed fees when signing up. Also the locker rooms here are disgusting. I’m all for a classic dive gym, but the bathroom shouldn’t constantly smell like urine. A pool that hasn’t been filled in a LONG time.

I signed a contract at a given rate with the promise I was locked in for a year(couldn’t cancel without a cancellation fee), and then after the fact would be able to keep my rate but cancel whenever(no cancellation fee). I received a random text a little after my initial year that stated it was a 5 day notice for new rates in which they DOUBLED. So much for whatever I signed initially. When I called to complain they said “you can keep your rate if you sign on for another year”. No thank you. Oh and expect to be charged an extra month after you cancel. They’re so petty their cancellation contract even recommends “certified mail” so it doesn’t conveniently “get lost”.

I wouldn’t recommend working out here to anyone.

EDIT 10/28 as I can’t reply to the owners response:

1. So you don’t deny the restrooms smell gross, your complaint is I didn’t formally complain about it? I figured anyone with a nose already knew.
2. I haven’t been there for a bit, did a quick walk, correct currently I see one treadmill, your steam room, and the pool/hot tub. I have removed this from my original paragraph.
3. I have checked all of my emails from you guys, texts, etc. all I received was one text with a five day warning. Did you possible send the other notices via snail mail or carrier pigeon?
4. My rate was locked in when I signed my initial contract. Just because I was signed on for roughly 2 years doesn’t mean I loved the place lol, I just finally got around to taking the time to cancel.
Bonus point: Finally quit denying that your five star reviews were for giving discounts? I’m not saying you the owner did this but David certainly did. (Just check yelp for a more accurate review average of 2.5 stars)

Please explain how any of this review is unfair or untrue.

Rules posted everywhere about no excessive weight slamming or grunting but it is never addressed and is constant.
The GM just makes excuses about it being a heavy lifting facility and not PF, whatever that has to do with it.
Don't post it if you're not going to enforce it.
Edit: i did email the the GM and he had agreed to cancel the last 2 months of my membership. When i asked for confirmation that it was cancelled he decided to blackmail me and recant the offer to cancel if i posted any negative reviews on any platform.
Needless to say i was charged and my membership wasn't cancelled. My son also took his cancellation to them and he was charged this month as well.
I have included the emails from the owner offering the cancellation and also attempting blackmail. I also NEVER refused, he decided that because i put the review out there that HE wouldn't cancel.

About a month ago I had a billing issue that no one could fix, one employee referred me to this lady named Alexis who was able to instantly fix the issue, in a matter of seconds! and she never had a bad attitude about it. This gym has great customer service.

I don’t wanna be harsh but this gym sucks. I usually get about a 1.5 hr workout in I could only bare 40 mins in here. It’s almost like small hotel gym lol. The machines are run down and not many I’m glad they had dumbbells and barbell. Pool has no water in it out of service. I didnt wanna check out the sauna I’m pretty sure same thing. Showers but no closed off dressing area. If anybody pays more than 10$ a month to be there I feel bad for them but treadmills were nice and receptionist was very nice they are reason for any stars

I joined Custom Fitness because I heard the trainer was amazing—and wow, turns out it’s me. Honestly, I show up for the gains but stay for the bad jokes and perfectly timed playlists that I definitely didn’t make in a caffeinated frenzy at midnight.
The vibe and equipment is top-tier, the community is awesome, and the trainer (still me) somehow manages to roast you and motivate you at the same time.
I also work out here because frankly, where else can I cry on the stairmaster without judgement? 10/10, would program myself another leg day and immediately regret it.
If you want a gym that feels like home come to Custom Fitness. I’ll be there. Working. Or working out. Or both. Probably both.

You can sign up on line to pay for your membership, but to cancel you must do it in person or by certified mail. We moved to another state. So now we have to make a trip to the post office to cancel a gym membership !

Massive gym with lots of free weights and tons of different options. They also keep it very clean. There are a lot of small rooms, so make sure you check everything out. But there is equipment from everyone to someone doing cardio CrossFit to serious meat heads. I think they have dumbbells up to 130 pounds. Definitely recommend this place

I love coming here, you can see that the employees take pride in their workplace. They are always happy to chat and make everyone feel comfortable. Today I came in and Jayda had the whole reception desk looking clean and organized! The gym is also great at supplying all the machines and equipment that anyone could possibly need. My fiancé and I went to this gym for only a couple months before we moved out of state. We loved all the different options in equipment and their hours worked great with our schedule. We really enjoyed our experience in the short time we had. I would definitely recommend this gym.

We were charged after cancellation, that is accurate. But, the manager helped get the cancellation sorted out and got us the confirmation that we would no longer be charged, which is greatly appreciated, thank you.
We personally do not feel like this gym is a good fit for us, the environment does not suit us and it's also a bit too small and was just a bit uncomfortable because of the small size. They do have a pool, but we have no idea if it is functional, it wasn't when he was going. If that's something you like, I recommend verifying it, it could be fixed by now.

The best gym in town. They have everything you and your family need. Darcy did a great job at explaining how childcare works and what hours it’s available, and about the very wide range of exercise equipment the facility has to offer. This place truly is a great place for everybody! It is very large so you never have wait in line for machines. The dry sauna is amazing especially with the cold weather! I’ve spent $200 paying for this gym and I’ve only been there about two months. I wouldn’t risk it. Somehow, I’ve paid an annual pay when I’m supposed to be paying only $30 a month in cash yet they charge me more than expected. I called to change things around and the front desk employees never seem to understand what’s going on or how to do their jobs. I guess I’ll come in until dec 23rd and try to get 200 bucks worth of working out and then change my bank card number because I don’t TRUST this gym.

Most shady management I've ever experienced. Cancelled membership in December of 2022, moved out of state, and now they started charging my card again in April of 2024. They "lost" records of my cancellation and they tried to hide it by literally changing the name of the transactions that posted to my bank between Jan '23 and March '24 to not show up on searches.

Seems like I am not the only one they tried to scam, as seen here from other reviewers. Very scummy ownership.

Not to mention, the facilities themselves are extremely low quality and machines & treadmills are constantly broken. Truly the worst gym in Iowa, possibly the US. Need a zero star option for this place.

I went to this gym for a little over a year. Went in to cancel my membership due to finding a different gym and was informed I would have one last payment due since there was a 30 day grace period after signing the cancellation form. Which I was fine with. The time comes for my last payment which should’ve been $22.46. But since my payment couldn’t come out right away I was charged over $45. On January 12th, one day of the payment being past due I had received one text regarding the late payment (did not mention any fee charges) but I assumed they would just try to reprocess the payment the following day. Turns out they either can’t or don’t know how to do that.

The Custom Fitness gym has a lot of equipment, a sauna, a steam room, pool, hot tub, free weights, racquet ball rooms, tanning bed & an aqua massage bed which is wonderful after a workout. You have to make an appt for that, tho. They have 24hr accessibility for members. Also, members can bring a guest for free, anytime. I think they still have family swim on Sundays. Check it out.

I emailed asking to cancel my membership, they said I need to write a letter so I wrote them a letter but they kept billing I emailed again with no response I decided to call my bank and ask them to stop them from charging me, now they put me on debt collection for the past due balance ok good luck cause you’ll have to literally come to my house and physically make me pay cause its not happening, not a good gym and the equipment is rusty.

The contract here seems to be drafted in a way as to not allow you to quit without suffering a penalty. The phrase caveat emptor was created with this place in mind. Let the buyer beware!

Just from reading the reviews here, it seems apparent that the person who replies to them doesn't understand the difference between slander and libel and when each is applicable or even if they are applicable at all. What a weird thing to see in Google reviews for a local gym.

I would not suggest signing up less your 100 precent sure. They are crooks. They say it takes 30 day to cancel, of course you can't do it in store and they going to take their sweet time opening the letter. Only canceled the one that was not being used. Edit: There’s no need to assume that I’m upset about the cancellation process I think we can handle this in a professional manner the point of Google reviews is to leave a review and that comes from opinions on the place it’s a good gym by all means and the legal bonded process to cancel is understandable more just upset about the phone call when I called to get info on cancelling and the fact that I didn’t receive a reply back for a week which is gonna set my 30 days from when I can get the mailed cancellation process pushed back farther meaning a chance that I could be charged more when it wasn’t my fault you guys hadn’t checked your “spam” folder. Decent gym could use some extra cleaning but that’s aside from the point it just has some stuff to work on and hope it fixes the flaws in the future.

I just signed up for a membership here and met with a personal trainer. The sign up process was easy and they have a variety of membership choices for different levels of commitment and access. The personal trainer seems to be very knowledgeable and accommodating of my hectic schedule so far which is awesome since my work schedule can vary from first, second, or into third shift. I have never used a gym before, so I’m optimistic that I’ll stick with it and meet my personal wellness goals. I was referred here by a friend who loves it here so I hope it will be a good fit for me too. On a positive side note the parking lot was packed and it still didn’t feel to overcrowded in the facility. Also love that they use clean energy by utilize solar power!

Not a great gym. Most of their ellipticals and treadmills have problems or do not work at all. It seems like they buy faulty or very used equipment to save money. I got charged a random yearly fee for $50 that I was never told about and then I was told that included the monthly fee with yearly cost but then the next day they took the normal $27 for the month out of my account so I have now payed $75 for a gym I do not like going to. Would not recommend.
Edit: I am not Hayden and am not sure who that is however if you are willing to give me a refund I would happily accept.

I like coming here a lot. The package prices are phenomenal, totally unbeatable. Many rooms with machines and I never feel over crowded.

I really wish there were more classes offered but understand how it's difficult to staff. Maybe they could put a tv with guided videos in the cycling room or something. I wanted to do the guided lifting but it was on tue/thur when I was unavailable.

This place is awful. Dirty, old equipment and management that is extremely juvenile. Just look at the replies to bad reviews - do you really want to trust them with your money? Go with your gut on this one... Avoid.
