The gym is closed, the sign is off of the wall it front, and it looked like someone was remodeling inside.

I've been a Gold's Gym member at the West Des Moines location over a year and am most disappointed with the extra charges placed on my account. The typical response I receive is that my account was set up incorrectly, or the computer system didn't recognize what plan I was on. First, I had sessions with a personal trainer for $234 a month lasting 6 months. Before the 6 months ended, it was assured to me that the $234 monthly charge would drop. It didn't. On month 7, I was charged $234 and had to fight with management to get that reversed.

Additionally, one perk of being a member is that your membership fee is reduced after 1 year. So once I reached a year, I starting receiving the new monthly fee but the computer system didn't recognize that and charged me the full monthly membership fee a few days after I was charged the reduced rate. Again I had to go out of my way to have this reversed. From my experience, it really seems like they just want your money first and everything else is secondary.

I tried a three day pass. I was not really impressed it's around 35 a month. A plus is it has a movie theater and a woman only small gym room. But the weight machines are outdated and need improvement they also didn't have a selection of weight balls I literally only found two. I use the weight balls a lot so that was disappointing. The wifi signal is poor only came in sporadic. I cant get a good signal in a lot of places so maybe it's the way the building is made. The movie was different but got too hot in there had to get out after a half hour on the treadmill. They do have child care which is a bonus for some there might be an extra charge but I didn't ask. There is a sauna another plus. But too many minuses for my preference.

Missing a lot of equipment I'd usually use, namely kettlebells and boxes, but overall an okay gym. The reason I'm giving one star is because they were advertising their nutrition coaching with a poster that literally lied and used scare tactics to the sell their program and supplements. Verbatim from poster "You cannot get all your nutrition from food alone... Nutritional Supplements are an insurance policy for your health." LIES! Anyone with a nutrition science degree can tell you how unethical this sign is. Shame on you Gold's Gym!!

The place has a lot of flaws but one big seller, the price. However, that comes with a risk as well, you sometimes get stuck paying long after you quit and then get the run-around when trying to get the problem solved. I hope the new management is doing better with this and fixing some of the problems of the past, but I have not been back to confirm.

There's a lot great gym equipment here...of course. I will say the dumbbells are beat up but I assume they buy them in bulk for a better deal. They're the right weight regardless, that's what matters. There's a sauna and plenty of showers. They have a tanning bed and booth. Sometimes the bed isn't operable. There's a boxing room in the back. Their staff is pretty cool too.

I signed up for a year membership then left when they tried to increase the monthly fee. They have decent private showers but no towel service. Staff seemed very apathetic. Part of my membership included a few trainer sessions that I never received because they were not available when I worked out. Wanted me to come in at odd times for trainer sessions. Not much camraderie between the patrons. About 50 percent of the time the TV controls or headphone jacks on the treadmills did not work.

Been going to this spot for years. Well kept, clean. Dumbbells are rubber which seems nice-- but the rubber grips are loose and need replaced on the heavier weights. I used to be a member and I've been in the system for years but they spontaneously seemed to have removed me from the system this holiday when I went back, which was dissapointing. $15 for 24 hour pass

Don't know what's up with all the one star reviews. I've been working out here for a year and I really like this gym. It's got plenty of space, plenty of weights and equipment to go around, and the price is reasonable. The only downside is after 5:00 pm the place smells like hardcore b.o. and is packed with tools. That's why I go in the morning. I'm not sure what they can really do about the smell; and every gym has tools in it. So overall, it's a pretty good gym. Also, maybe get a third squat rack and ditch one of the smith machines. A climbing rope would be nice too.

Very excited to be back at Gold's after too long of an absence. The cost, convenient location and staff make for an amazing experience. Vedo helped get me signed back up and explained everything I needed to know, making for a great experience. The sauna, fitness class, equipment and staff make for a great gym!!!!

Gym is fine with providing equipment for your workout for a good price. My issue is maintenance of equipment that is out of order. Steps tend to be out of order for 3 weeks in a row and only 1 other left for use between bunch of other people that want to get on. I also noticed that other equipment that do break take forever to be fixed. Cinama room has been out of order for 2 weeks now as well.

Update: Left this gym about 7 months ago for Aspen and couldn't be more happier. Did have problems with collectors calling trying to charge my card that thankfully had date expired for 3 months after my cancellation was signed but they didn't go through their end at the gym.

This Gold's Gym isn't the biggest by any means but it's decent! They need a few more machines. There is no pool, hot tub, steam room or basketball courts. They do have a sauna which is great! With every gym you have lazy loafers who can't or won't re-rack the weights but I see most people at least wipe the machines/benches down after using it and or before they use it. I pass through here 2-5 times a month and when I'm in town I workout here! Love the place and the people who workout here.

I've been going to this gym for over two years now and have no plans on switching. The price we are locked into is incredibly low, there's enough equipment that you can always find something to use and the staff is always friendly. It's not a high-end gym but you'll be surrounded by people who are serious about being there. Plus, the cardio cinema is way more entertaining than regular treadmills.

I've worked out here for awhile now and have no complaints. Staff is friendly and consistently walking the floor checking things out. Trainers are also friendly and not pushy. Wide variety of equipment. I've rarely experienced it that busy but I also go midday. Only suggestion I have is maybe adding one more decline bench and kettlebells. From what I can find it goes from a 30lb bell to 80lb. Would be nice to have some options in between. They also consistently have contests. Also a cinema cardio room as well as a lady's only room if you are worried about being bothered when working out. Good, clean gym with something for everyone. Great value here!

Had an overall negative experience, lots of guys who are obviously on steroids (sores from needle usage among other obvious indicators), weight room is extremely crowded between 6-8 every day which is when most people get off of work. It was crowded to the point where you could not get on a squat or bench rack AT ALL because every single one of them was in use. Guys benching in the back room were extremely rude and clearly didn't want other members using the equipment back there, they actually broke the speed bag and would purposely get in the way and try to interfere with other customers working out there. Unless you're an aspiring bodybuilder who is looking for a gear hookup I would recommend finding another gym.

Upon walking in you might get a whiff of "moldish smell". Customer service is ok, but they seem to be on their own program. One guy (white dude with maybe long hair) especially in a hat seems to be high all the time or IDK what hes on. Other than that, the gym is nice, has all the equipment.

I have been extremely happy with my experience at Gold's Gym. The membership cost for what you get is easily the best in the city and the Kid's Klub staff is super friendly and my daughter enjoys her time there. She loves Erin, Dana and Kiara.

Love this gym. Inexpensive, well-maintained equipment, great atmosphere. The staff goes above and beyond.

Once I accidentally left my keys in the locker when I left. I realized this at midnight -- and I absolutely, positively HAD to have those keys at 5 the next morning for a major event I was hosting at work. Like, "I will get fired if I don't have those keys" serious. I figured I was completely screwed by my own incompetence. But I took a shot and called the number of the morning manager -- which is on the door, in case for some reason they don't open on time. I woke her up in the middle of the night, explained my situation, and she **drove down to the gym** to let me in to get my keys. Completely saved my job.

That example is just representative of the friendly, professional behavior I've always encountered here. I've read some of the negative comments above and I can't dispute anything specific, but I've been going to this gym daily for five years now and I have never seen anyone yell at anyone else.

Occasionally they play boring movies in the Cardio Cinema. Seriously, that's the biggest drawback. :)

I had the exact same experience as B Davis. They did not explain the fees that would be coming four months down the road. Once it is charged there is no way to get it back. I immediately canceled my membership. I Received no apologies or empathy whatsoever. Terrible way to run a business. Do not sign any papers until you read all the fine print, because the sales guy sure isn't going to tell you about the fees. The annual fee is in the fine print and not in the fees section where a normal human being will find it.
