I have been actively trying to cancel my membership since May 2024. They’re STILL charging me 7 months later. Don’t do it. Stay far far away from them.

Update: After 7 months, Baylee, the GM reached out. I was supposed to hear back from her by the next day. It's now been 2 days. The Clive & Norwalk locations are owned by the same people. Don't do it.

I regretfully share my negative experience with Hotworx Clive regarding the cancelation of my membership and subsequent refund process.

While the staff at this location has always been friendly, they lack the necessary knowledge and efficiency to handle payment and membership issues properly. I initially visited in May 2024 to cancel my membership due to an upcoming move. I was informed everything was processed and understood that I’d be charged for the following month per policy. However, charges continued beyond this point, and resolving the issue has been a nightmare.

I’ve called the location over 10 times since May and have been repeatedly told a manager would get back to me, but no one ever did. Remaining polite and patient, I continued to follow up. In December, I went in-person to discover they had not removed my backup credit card from the account during the initial cancelation process, leading to additional charges. They removed the card at that time and assured me the matter would be escalated to their head manager/owner for resolution.

My husband and I have made numerous attempts to contact the manager, but they have been consistently unavailable and unresponsive. As of January 2025, I am owed over $400. While today the manager finally answered our call and has now escalated the issue to headquarters, this is an unacceptably long and frustrating process.

I am hopeful this issue will be resolved, but the lack of responsiveness, accountability, and knowledge from this location has been deeply disappointing. I urge Hotworx to address these operational inefficiencies to prevent other customers from experiencing similar challenges.

Hotworx is awesome! The 24/7 open access gym makes this super accessible for a busy graduate student like me! I really enjoy the variety of classes being taught. Overall the video instructors give pointers throughout too so I can ensure my form is good! Highly recommend

The staff at Clive hotworx are truly amazing! I had foot surgery last month so I can’t do any of the exercises but they have encouraged me to still come in and sit in a sauna. They have been incredibly helpful when it comes to me getting situated in and out of the sauna which is much needed since I’m still on crutches. These girls definitely have made me feel comfortable coming in and I feel so welcomed!

I joined hotworx clive around 9 months ago and I have never been happier with a gym experience! All the staff is so helpful and friendly, I feel valued as a member every time I walk through the door. I love Hotworx! I’ve struggled staying consistent at traditional gyms and Hotworx has been such a game changer for me. As a fitness newbie, I love the guided virtual workouts so I don’t have to worry about planning out a gym routine. I typically workout at night and I almost always have a sauna to myself which is super nice! I love ending my day unwinding in the sauna, and I feel amazing after my sessions.
My only suggestion for the studio- the music playing is often very loud. I’m not a huge fan of listening to club rap/hip hop music during sessions like yoga and pilates which should be relaxing. Either turning the volume down a bit, or changing the placement of the studio speaker (which is currently sitting up against one of the saunas) would help!
Overall, I highly recommend checking out Hotworx! They offer one free session if you want to see if it’s a good fit for you. So glad I discovered this place!

As a fit anywhere member, I feel compelled to share that HOTWORX Clive is hands down a rockstar location. It’s gone above and beyond and exceeds my expectations as a gym, in several ways. The staff is extremely friendly, helpful, supportive and motivational. Multiple girls have cheered me on, and truly they’ve made it much easier to come to the gym. They’ve also helped me expand my workouts to levels I’m comfortable with, yet still fun, and give you results!!! You can tell the manager has done a wonderful job making sure her staff is educated and excited to welcome beginners, and us existing customers, daily! I actually go out of my way, to go to the Clive location, when I have one in my home town of Ankeny! I love the encouragement they provide, the cleanliness of the facility and enjoy the sauna workouts! Gyms can be daunting and often times make people feel uncomfortable— not this place! 3.5 years at HOTWORX Clive. Started out great. When the management changed to the current staff the gym started going downhill. The cleanliness and functionality of equipment and space is always disappointing.
The staff is friendly but doesn’t seem to care about the gym, only getting fit themselves and posting the same members on social media constantly.
It’s unfortunate really. The equipment is broken in multiple saunas and I know I’ve personally alerted the staff multiple times to the same items and nothing gets fixed.
8/5/24 status: One of the two bathrooms has been out of hand soap and hand sanitizer for 5 days. The walls of the bathrooms don’t ever seem to get clean (the air dryers spray water marks and drips all over the walls). There are lights hanging out of their sockets in some saunas, loose seats on some of the bikes (safety issue). The sauna walls and heaters are filthy and I haven’t seen a single deep clean of any sauna since the current management started. The only water fountain has been out of commission for over month and the vending machine is often out of water leaving just the bathroom to hydrate. Water is water, but it’s just the fact that the drinking water they provided is no longer. Solution is to at least get the Culligan Man in here until this is fixed! How can you run a gym without a working water fountain.

The equipments mats in the HIIT saunas are disgusting and I haven’t ever seen them cleaned or replaced. There are wood covers over some of the heating elements inside the sauna. You can see through the wood slats that the heaters and disgusting. It would take a simple screw driver to remove, clean, and replace the wood covers.

The merchandise has become extremely stagnant and is selling off season clothing that is not appealing. Maybe I’m the only one not interested in sweatshirts in the summer.

I say all this with disappointment because I loved coming here for my first few years and I just don’t like coming anymore really because my favorite equipment usually has something wrong with it.

As for the workouts I like them, they are a good degree of difficulty, but I’d be more motivated to come if I saw more than fit young things on the social media posts. Turns me off to coming.

Started here in May (2023) and really like this place! The flexible scheduling is huge for me. The 15 minute and 30 minute workouts are intense! I like being able to go when it is convenient for me, not some instructor. I enjoy the variety of classes, and the virtual instruction is consistent. I wasn't sure about working out in a sauna, but man I feel so much better. My knee that previously hurt after workouts, doesn't hurt after any of the workout at Hotworx. I love Jen (the owner) and her team. They make me feel so wanted and appreciated. I have worked out in several other boutique fitness gyms (“color” theory, well known boxing gym that has a 10 week challenge, etc.) in the same 5 mile radius and they never cared if I was a member or not. Plus Hot Worx is a fraction of the price!

The workouts themselves are wonderful. They help me sweat like crazy and I can feel the burn (in a good way) for days after. I also love the flexibility of the workouts starting every 15 minutes. I can not say enough great things.

Absolutely LOVE THIS PLACE!! It’s the perfect place for busy moms like myself!! I used to have to either get up before the sun to workout or have to skip.. we’ll here I can go with the flow of the day and get a workout in EVERYDAY!!! It burn so many calories in a fraction of the time with the 3D training! I can tell my skin is better, my PT can tell my inflammation is much better, and I’m seeing results! I’m just getting back into working out after a tendon repair, and then a car accident 🙄 and let me tell you some days I just do my own thing because that’s all I can do, BUT im still burning 150+cal just being in the sauna and stretching/foam rolling! When I signed up they told me I had to give a 60 day notice to cancel. What they didn’t tell me was that it had to be 60 days AFTER the three month obligatory trial period. When I brought it to the attention of the owner that that detail hadn’t been made clear and if it had, I wouldn’t have joined, she just kept repeating “it’s in the contract”. She refused to let me out of my contract at the end of June and insisted I have to pay until August. Unless (wait for it…..) I wanted to pay 100$ to be let out early. So beware, they’ve got you for 5 months if you sign up. Which is a red flag. People should have enough confidence in their business to let people come and go as they please. Also, I only went four times because the saunas are 𝒕𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕! When I’m in mountain pose, my fingers touch the ceiling. So if you’re over 5 feet, 5 inches tall, you might find them uncomfortable. I belong to Powerlife, Perspire, Genesis and the Y and I’ve never had an experience like this. Boo👎🏻
