ICOR Boxing’s Rock Steady Boxing program was a game changer for my husband in helping delay the progressive neurological degeneration of his Parkinson’s disease. Not only did it provide enormous benefits for him physically, but the social/personal connections with others working to “Knock Out PD” was invaluable! Cliff and Emily are knowledgeable, upbeat, dedicated people. You cannot go wrong with this program!

ICOR, has been great. The coaches are extremely nice and passionate about what they do. My child has been there for a year and looks forward to everyday she gets to go. They do not teach just boxing they also teach the kids to be a good person and stick up for those that cannot and never to be a bully. I would highly recommend for any child that wants to learn about boxing go here.

ICOR's Rock Steady Boxing program is an excellent program. It offers both a good facility and equipment and excellent coaching for people with Parkinson's disease. Emily and Cliff are very supportive of every individual in the program and the participants create a friendly and supportive environment. The program meets every participant where they are in skills and stages of Parkinson's. Simply, they're great and very welcoming. I'm glad I joined the Rock Steady Boxing program at ICOR.

I'm a newcomer to ICOR and I already feel at home and welcome as an older woman and a novice. ICOR is led by two incredible coaches that genuinely care, take time to motivate and instruct and create a family like environment while maintaining a true and genuine boxing gym environment. I have a challenging work schedule but they've allowed me to make it work. I've always loved boxing and I'm so glad to be able to say I've found home at ICOR. Thank you, team, for having me as I begin this new journey.

I had never participated in any sort of combative sports prior to joining ICOR. I wanted to take up boxing for overall fitness and to improve the muscles around my shoulders, arms, and back. However I had no idea what sort of environment I would be walking into. ICOR provides the opportunity to audit a free class, and I joined soon after. The classes/times are rotating, so whether you're there for sparring, or just want to work on conditioning, or are learning how to box with no prior experience, there are plenty of opportunities. The coaches are not only fantastic in their fields, but welcoming, motivating, and will help challenge you to overcome self-imposed limits. The environment from not only them, but the other students, is why I would recommend this gym to everyone. I have received guidance and assistance from other students in every class when I've asked for it. You'll see a wide range of skill levels, but everyone is there to improve and lift up one another.

I received an email from the Iowa City Senior Center with information about the Rock Steady Boxing scholarships available through the Parkinson’s Foundation grant. I had no idea what to expect. I had never even watched a boxing match before.
It’s really inspiring that I can look around and see the progress that other new Rock Steady Boxers have made in just the few months that they’ve been there. I have also felt encouraged by other Rock Steady Boxers who have also told me that they’ve seen progress in me in the short amount of time I’ve been here. It really impressed me how we are included in the gym's other activities and the camaraderie I’ve experienced has really made me feel included. The program just checks all the boxes for me.
I’m really just super impressed by the whole thing and don’t have enough good things to say about it."

An absolutely phenomenal place to train. Coach Cliff is knowledgeable, articulate, and a masterful motivator. The environment at ICOR is both welcoming (not a mean person in the gym) and intense. I had the privilege to train there during summer 2022, and by the end of four months I felt like I was carved out of hardwood. Proud to carry the ICOR name with me overseas.

Iowa City's ICOR Boxing is a premier boxing experience for all skill levels. Whether practicing under the guidance of the coaches, or in solitude with the vast array of equipment, one feels no shortage of opportunity, and may learn from a steady delivery of knowledge which is as adept as it is communicative. At this gym there is no shortage of friendliness, and no hint of judgement. 5 stars, would recommend!

I can’t begin to say how impressed I am by what Clif and Emily do here, and do with enormous knowledge and with the biggest of hearts. They enrich the lives of everyone who walks in to ICOR, be it someone in search of simply a great gym or someone wanting to be part of a boxing community (be it lessons at any level, conditioning, competition if desired, etc.). They also offer classes for men and women 50 and up, kids of all ages, and Rock Steady Boxing (part of a national program) for people with Parkinson’s. ICOR sees itself as part of the Iowa City community and engages with it wherever possible. As I started out saying, ICOR enriches lives — physically and emotionally.

I joined ICOR four months ago. I am in my early 40s, and was looking for an inclusive environment to get my fitness back on track. ICOR has the typical facilities and equipment that you would expect from a boxing club, and it is all in a good state of maintenance and well cared for. However, the facilities and equipment are not what make ICOR stand out.

The staff and members of ICOR genuinely care about each other. I have never belonged to a gym or club where the coaches and members care as much about your life outside the gym as they do about your time inside the gym. The coaches, Cliff and Emily, go beyond the role of simply coaching proper form, technique, etc., to ensure that members are having their needs met outside of the gym. I have also seen this level of care among the members, where the values of the coaches and staff that has been taught to the members is often seen continuing among the members.

Lastly, and this is a bit personal and subjective, I admire the family nature of ICOR. As someone who has kids of my own, I understand how demanding family life can be. Balancing running a business with having young children is something that I believe deserves respect. The coaches' kids can frequently be seen around the club, and for me its like being right at home. Some people might find it inconvenient or distracting, but I find it reassuring to know that the people I have entrusted my training to can understand the pressures and demands that I experience as a parent. A family operated business isn't the training environment everyone wants or needs, but it's perfect for me.

I cannot say enough good things about Icor . This place is one of a kind, especially in the Iowa city area . Not only is a professional boxing gym with a real boxing ring , it also offers a variety of fitness classes for all fitness levels . My husband loves his adult fitness classes and meeting well trained boxers, my sons adore their big Dog classes in which they learn boxing , discipline, respect and socializing etc. I would like to try a boxing class in the future or maybe just learn how to dance salsa. Overall, Icor is the crème de la crème of boxing . Cherry on top is the amazing owners and
coaches who are not only dedicated to making their members succeed but also very involved in the community . A+ recommend !!

We got involved because of Parkinson’s related Rocksteady boxing. Emily and Cliff are great! With the onset of COVID-19, they have kept us going with a combination of live streaming and socially distanced mask wearing in person classes. The average age for RockSteady is probably in the 60s and we are getting pushed for an impressive good work out. 😁. We have enjoyed them so much that we have enrolled our three older grandchildren in the youth boxing and the three younger grandchildren in the little bugs classes for the 4-7 year olds. They are loving it too. This is a gym for those who are serious about getting a great workout. And if you have Parkinson’s disease, highly, highly recommended!

I joined a group within ICOR Boxing called “Rock Steady Boxing”, which is intended for folks with Parkinson’s Disease. We receive fast-paced combinations of exercises which influence balance, strength, flexibility, and voice. These sub-exercises all culminate in non-contact boxing exercises, which really get the sweat flowing. Clif and Emily are superb trainers; always positive and encouraging. I know that my neurologic status is better than when I started, and I keep getting stronger, and more flexible. My neck mobility is better, and I track in a much straighter line when walking. If you have Parkinson’s Disease, you should join. It doesn’t matter what stage of the disease you are in. Fight back!

Not only are the classes an amazing workout (I have lost close to 10 pbs sonce I joined this month) the classes are also informative. I have been attending the kickboxing and mma classes and I am the newest member in them. I never felt put out, or pushed aside due to my inexperience, and all the instructors understand some limitations that beginners may have, which was one of the things I was nervous about at first. I am glad I found this gym and I am extremely excited to further my training in kick boxing and mma, and possibly even boxing! The sky is truly the limit at the gym, but just remember, it all starts with what you yourself put in. They give you the tools, but you must use them! I highly recommend to visit and attend ICOR boxing gym if you are looking for a boxing gym or some place to workout. I very enjoy working out in this gym feeling the improvement of my boxing skills and fitness. I have been in ICOR gym over 8 months, also currently learning boxing in ICOR gym. The workout in ICOR gym during the class is efficient and very well directed to improve your physical competence, so it is worth to give your energy during any class in the gym. Instructors are very intelligent to teach you how to do boxing or how you need to approach starting and learning boxing in a modern style, furthermore, a various style as you ask them since they are very open minded, and willing to share their thought about the various techniques and skills you may curious about as well. People in the gym are nice to talk and some of them are good fighters already, so they would share with you the positive impression and a great motivation to workout. Lastly, their hygienic place of gym with spacious room is the one of their strong. They have developed the way they arranged the heavy bags and all the abundant equipment in a reasonable way, and clean the gym very often, regularly. Although the gym was already a great place at the first time I visited, but still the equipment and facilities have been developing; they don't stop improving themselves. You will not regret coming to ICOR. Thanks for reading.

Ok so the Kickboxing and mma class were amazing, Julie knows her stuff and actually tries to help on stuff it looks like you're struggling on. The boxing classes on the other hand were OK. They were a workout, but if you're actually trying to learn how to box, it's not the greatest. I didn't get any advice, all I ever was told was a simple combination to work on and then they would leave and try to help one of there more favorite students. Also be wary of the contract. I messed up and didn't read it well but that's on me

Our son became involved at ICOR a year and a half ago and has loved the youth boxing program. The skills he has learned and the strength he is developing is amazing. Coach C and Coach Emily are strong motivators, skilled teachers and all around great people. And the gym is legit! I’ve been so impressed by the equipment and expectations and all the people we’ve met there. My son also attended their summer boxing camp and had a great week. This has been the one thing that he’s stayed with and looks forward to. Can’t recommend enough!

I loved the gym. I worked with both Cliff and Emily and they treated me with kindness and the utmost professionalism. Every time I stepped into the gym I was motivated to give it my all. I was stopping through Iowa for two weeks so I signed up for the gym and in just two weeks I feel I learned so much and have gotten a lot stronger. I would recommend this gym to anyone that wants to learn how to fight, because you have instructors that love what they do and really want to bring out the best in you :).

The classes themselves were great, the work out was good, cliff is a great instructor and a very nice guy, knows what he's doing. But be prepared to read the fine print if you decide to sign up because they don't tell you that you're signing up for three months MINIMUM. I was given not even a hint that it was a contract when I was asked to give them my credit card. So if you're looking to sign up for at least an entire season then this is the place for you. If not, keep on looking!
