Best-run gym I’ve ever belonged to. Chris, the owner, will address you by first name, and the staff all treats members like family. They do a quarterly body composition challenge here that you can enroll in and compete against other members. The one last January changed my life—it gave me that extra incentive I needed to make important changes. I’ve lost 70 pounds since, all from diet and exercise modifications.

The gym itself is well-equipped, and any maintenance request to Chris is typically handled within a day, sometimes in just a few hours! He even upgraded the decline sit-up bench for me upon request. He also has zero tolerance for bad “bro” behavior and will shut it down. Great guy, love this place, and recommend trainers Adryn and Nellie.

Excellent gym with a lot of machines and free weights and cardio rooms and stretching areas. A full track to walk or run, a pool and sauna.
Everything you could want in a health club.
It's clean and there are plenty of microfiber cloths for cleaning machines.
Complete with free towels and coffee for members. Option to buy protein bars and energy drinks and electrolyte drinks at their little cafe.
The only change I'd like to see is some vegan protein bar or drink options.

The worst gym I have been to in town! The gym is packed to the max I have to always wait around to use the equipment I want. The locker room and sauna is very dirty and overall the whole place could use a good cleaning. Tons of kids just sitting on their phones not doing anything and the staff won't do anything about it. They don't have enough equipment to start so it makes it pretty hard to get a good workout in, let alone how long it takes to find an empty spot to park. I will definitely be switching I tried to give them a chance but can't do it anymore.

I've been going to this gym 3-5x/week for over six months, and I love this place! The staff are always so efficient and kind, and the other gym members are courteous. I've not personally used the pool, but the rest of the gym I've seen/used has always been clean. I've had a wonderful experience with one of their personal trainers, Connor Westergaard, and I highly recommend him for anyone considering a trainer, especially someone who may be new to gyms, fitness, or resistance training in general.

This is the best gym in the area! I've been going there for 4 and a half months and I'll be there forever! The gym and the people that work there are amazing!
I work with a trainer as well as being a member and it's so worth it!
I couldn't get up and down off the floor without help and then I talked to Jon Bianchi!!! Now my life is completely different 4 months later. I have energy all day long and I don't need help with anything anymore plus I'm lifting weights too!

I’ve been a member at Legacy for 3 years now. It is the perfect gym for my family! My daughters love going to the childcare and family swim time. I typically go early in the morning to get my workout in, so I am one of the lucky ones who is greeted by Al every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This is Ric wife posting this post. There was a post by Nick W. that was about Legacy and how he mistreated Al. First, I have to say I am absolutely appalled how you treated Al and your behavior. He is the sweetest person ever and works really hard. Nick you need to apologize to him immediately. Who acts like this at all. Second, what Nick said about Legacy Fitness is not true at all. Obviously you do not understand how a business works. It is a wonderful gym and they do their best to keep it a nice place to work out, especially during the winter season. But I have to say people who go to the gym need to be more respectful and responsible when it comes to keeping the gym clean. Bring your second pair of shoes, change them before you walk upstairs, do not walk on the track with your wet shoes/boots to get to the window sill to change into your tennis shoes. When you try to walk on the track you have to dodge all the water on the floor. The employees have more to do than constantly mopping up after you. The gym belongs to all of its members, show the same respect and responsibility like you do in your own home. I hope when I go to the gym this winter I see a change in how our gym is treated.

Have been a member for a year. I attend a water exercise class daily. Love the instructors and the other class participants. Pool is large and clean and I am very pleased that I can come at will to any class. My friends in other cities are not able to attend water exercise classes because classes are full with waiting lists. All staff have been great to me. I had no problems becoming a member. Met with a staff member who assessed my needs and offered a plan. Joining was the best decision that I have made in a long time.

I have been a patron at legacy for over two years and it is by far one of the best gym in the metro. I lived in ankeny for a year and moved downtown and tried some of the gyms there but I always felt out of place or just like I didn't fit. Now I'm by no means a gym rat, but I typically visit 5-6 times a week. Even being a regular gym attendee, it just felt like people were judging me and stare weird. So I canceled my membership and went back to Legacy (a 30 min drive every night) to still be able to workout there. When I went on military leave, Chris gave me almost 3 months free while I was back visiting in additional to giving my brother and his wife, months free when they were looking for a gym.

Any time I had concerns about the service, cleanliness, or equipment, Chris always responded personally and followed up with how they resolved the issue. Legacy is BY FAR one of the best in the metro and they will continue to have my service for years to come.

Everyone knows some gyms are scummy about memberships but these people take the cake—they won't put their rates on their website (the "click here to learn more" button is a mailto: link like you're on a 90s geocities website) and they won't even tell their own staff what their rates are, you have to meet them in office or take a phone call from one of their membership people directly so they can try to manipulate you into buying one on the spot.

Deeply unserious and unethical salescringe behavior and I dearly hope that they are out of business soon.

EDIT: the saddest part about this owner's response to my review is that I thanked Al for his time and didn't say anything to him when he said he wasn't allowed to know what the membership rates are—which means the owner is either lying about what happened to try to to score sympathy points (likely) or that I am FAR from the only person who takes issue with this company's unethical behavior. Either way, it's obvious that they know they are in the wrong—they just don't care because they know they can make a little extra money by browbeating people into a membership.

Our experience at legacy is 10 out of 10. Chris and his staff are incredible, honest, hardworking and extremely friendly. They take great pride in Legacy and it shows and it pays off for the members. Recommend to anyone. Equipment is top quality and always clean. Locker rooms and Suana are incredible and clean. Staff handles issues immediately. Coffee is great!

Legacy is my favorite gym I have ever been a member of. It's a great environment, clean, and the staff is so friendly! I have done personal training as well and had a great experience. Chris, the owner, does a great job with this gym - I cannot recommend it enough!

Utilized this gym for the summer and it was excellent. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. They have enough equipment for their typical capacity, and they offer a 24 hour key for those who want to attend the gym after hours (which I appreciated a lot). They also have a pool, which is only 3 lanes, but is actually not used often and I never had trouble getting a lane.

Great gym! Has all the amenities, id say its a competitor to the big Lifetime in West Des Moines. Chris is a great guy I have known for over a decade. He has worked his way up through being a trainer and is now the General Manager, and he KNOWS what a good gym needs. This gym provides that, plus a lot of friendly people to boot!

I was so excited to hear that a new gym would be moving in to the Fitness World spot in The District! I did a group class with Christy today and it was awesome! I highly recommend this. I also love the fact that they aren't mandating masks to come in the facility. My husband and I cancelled two gym memberships this week b/c they were making masks mandatory to enter and exit the gym. As a business owner myself I love the option of choice vs being told what I have to do! Legacy has my business and I will continue to support them as long as they support people's freedom to choose! Thanks Legacy!

I really like this gym. The staff is great and Chris is awesome! The place is always extremely clean as well. To the people complaining about masks: maybe you should stay home if you are that scared about a virus with a 98% recovery rate, especially if you are “high risk.” Just sayin ;p
