I worked out at Surefire Fitness for the past three years until I moved away from Ames, and I'd absolutely recommend it for anyone looking to get fitter - whether you're a novice or someone coming in with a lot of comfort in the gym already.
The structure of the workouts differs by day, with more of a cardio/group/fun focus on m/w/f, and strength days on t/t. On top of that, the trainers are a pretty knowledgeable bunch, so whenever I had an injury that kept me from doing the main exercise they provided lots of alternatives as well as advice on strengthening and regaining mobility.
Overall, I'd say that this is by far the best choice in Ames if you're looking for fitness *and* a community - the groups are small and the trainers are very nice, so it ends up feeling like you're part of a big family.

I've been going to Surefire for over a year and it's the best gym I've been a member of! Group workouts are different each time, led by knowledgable trainers, and most importantly, really fun! I love the structure of the workouts; there are days (Tues/Thurs) that are focused on strength, and days (M/W/F) that are more cardio-based but also incorporate strength into it. Perfect for anyone! I'd highly recommend!

This is exactly the fitiness program I needed. I played college football, joined all kinds of gyms, did CrossFit, and put together a well outfitted home gym, however all my efforts left me forever mostly hoping to get back in shape. The programming of Surefire is getting me the results I need, and I feel like I will always be doing this! They will keep you coming back and get you stronger, more mobile and injury free. At 60 yrs old I can tell you this programming is for everyone! Just push play, they got everything else figured out for you and they know what they are doing.

I attend the 60+ class. The group is friendly supportive. It is a challenging fun work out that can be modified for those of us with bad knees, shoulder issues or whatever someone 60+ might be facing. Knowledgeable staff.

I've been attending a 60+ group fitness class with Feli, owner of Surefire Fitness and a once a week private class since the pandemic. Feli is a PhD in biology and former professor and she leads Surefire with superior knowledge, skill and friendliness. Surefire is different in that it emphasizes constantly changing exercises and group interaction to make the class move quickly and engage the mind. This variety and group interaction has helped me stay in an exercise program the longest period of time since my 20's (a long time ago...). Highly recommended place to improve your fitness and well-being!

Five stars!! We had my son's ninja birthday party here for ages ranging 4-8yr olds and everyone had a blast! Felicitas was beyond wonderful and did such an amazing job with all the kiddos and choas. I would highly recommend SureFire to anyone for their kiddos birthday! We will be back for their youth classes!

Iβve been off the gym wagon and definitely was feeling the potential embarrassment of starting up again - no one has made me feel bad for βletting myself goβ and only encourages me and gives me the modified versions when Iβm not yet able to complete the activity to its fullest.

A fantastic experience. Jeff is one of the most capable and knowledgeable trainers I've ever worked with. The workouts are fun, challenging, and intense. And you'll never get bored. After a month of classes I don't think I did the same exercise twice, apart from the standard strength training stuff, and I can tell I'm in overall better shape. Like any gym, you get out of it what you put into it, but SureFire is great for any fitness level.

I like that I feel okay here to go at my own pace and not compete with others - both within a single session as well as over the long-term. You can go and be really intense about your fitness and seek immediate goals, or you can go just to stay active and not necessarily have any immediate goals. I also appreciate there is no negativity, but it's also not the other end of the spectrum by being weirdly over-the-top positive like some other places I've experienced. :)

I was not someone who enjoyed working out, and I was definitely NOT someone interested in doing competitive, all-out classes like CrossFit. The βadult PEβ perspective of Surefire got me to go, and the community and the instructors got me hooked. The atmosphere is so much fun, and the classes have gotten me to do things I never would have thought I was capable of. Theyβll meet you where you are and help you meet whatever goals you have for yourself! Also, the instructors get to know the people in their class and care about them so much. They are truly good people who are there to help you in your fitness and health journey.

We've tried other ninja classes for our kids, and we think this one is the best! It's like American Ninja Warrior for kids! Every week is different, and our kids come home sweaty and happy. Great whole-body and coordination training for young athletes.

This is the best Gym that I have been to. The group workouts are challenging but accommodating to all fitness levels. They have a great selection of class times to work around busy schedules. My kid goes here for Kid Ninja, a parkour class. Its a great relaxed environment. Jeff has a great program going on here that is FULL of different activities. My kid ALWAYS wants to go and NEVER wants to leave!! Definitely NOT a place that you have to worry about not fitting in.

This is my favorite gym to go to by far! It's a fun atmosphere with everyone supporting and encouraging one another during the workouts. Jeff and his team are always coming up with creative ways to exercise using games to make it more fun! You get a great workout, without being boring. Surefire fitness is unlike any other fitness program I've tried, mainly because it engages exercise from a "whole person" perspective. Not only am I stronger and more flexible, but the training includes balance, fine and gross motor coordination and cognitive challenge all within a very encouraging and collaborative context. I have been going to Surefire for four years and I love it. I sometimes wonder what took me so long to join. Now, I go every day and am bummed if I miss a day. It is a very fun environment and community. The workouts are challenging but can be modified for any fitness level. The trainers are very knowledgeable and approachable. Everyday is something different which is great! My whole family has participated and benefited in the Surefire experience. My husband and 13 year old son do the group fitness classes together in the evenings and my daughter has had multiple Ninja Birthday parties, and now participates in the weekly Dragons class. I have been working out at Surefire Fitness for the past 3 months. All of the personal trainers are very knowledgeable and give individual attention to all who attend. I felt like they truly challenged me while being careful about keeping me from injuring myself due to poor form. I love that they gave me a fitness assessment before starting the program and customized my workout to meet my needs. The assessment was done again in 6 weeks to mark my progress and change what needed changing. This attention to detail has made me stronger and a lot more knowledgeable about how to meet my health goals. Thank you!

I highly recommend Surefire to anyone looking to better themselves! The trainers do a great job of incorporating fun and challenging workouts that make you feel better and accomplished. One great thing about Surefire is, the programs they do are for everyone. Anyone can do this. All shapes and sizes! They also offer numerous classes throughout the day making time to fit anybody's schedule. The classes are constantly changing. You wont get bored doing the same thing over and over. I recently finished a one of their six week challenge's. I was partnered up with someone which made things fun and kept me motivated. I loved the side missions they had. That was a great way to keep me accountable and interested! I wanted to do the six week program to give me a kick start. I got all of that and more! I learned so much during the six weeks. I was able to lower my body fat percentage and lose weight all while learning some healthy diet habits. After the six weeks I feel better, look better and learned a ton about health, diet and fitness. I look forward to using what I learned and continue working out!

I would recommend Surefire to anyone who wants to have a training program that will keep them coming back and get results.
I did the six week partner challenge at Surefire. I've never done a "group fitness" program before and was a little hesitant about the group format, as I've always trained on my own or with one other person. However, the environment at Surefire with the coaches and the other members ended up being one of my favorite things about attending.
The other thing I appreciated about Surefire was that it's not just another exercise class, where you go in, bounce around a bit, get sweaty and call it a day. We went five days a week, and at least two of those days each week are dedicated primarily to barbell work. The staff also pays close attention to programming, and the movements that attendees performed all had a purpose behind them.
I found Surefire to be a really good mixture of cardio training, barbell work, and functional movement training. It really does have something for everyone. And, the environment created by the staff together with the varied programming at Surefire makes training something you look forward to (even if it means getting up at 4 a.m.).
I'd recommend Surefire to anyone looking for assistance in achieving their fitness goals.

Surefire has gotten me on track to a healthy lifestyle! I love the workouts and the community atmosphere of the group training - it motivates me to push harder. I've lost significant weight and one pant size and I've only been at surefire for 2 months! They've also been great at working with me and giving me modifications to some exercises to accommodate some chronic pain issues I've been working through for 3 years now. As someone who has never considered themselves to be "athletic" or fit, I was surprised to discover how much I enjoy classes at Surefire. They are always challenging and unique compared to anything else. I know I'm getting a good workout every time. And I really appreciate that Jeff is always researching new theories and concepts related not only to physical fitness and performance, but also diet and nutrition.
