Not a bad gym but lacks some machines like lat pull downs and deadlifting platforms. Also not a fan of the dumb reserve a swim lane. Every gym I’ve gone to has been first come first serve basis for the swim lanes. It takes away from the lifeguards ability to monitor the pool if they’re stuck checking people in lanes. Seems like an accident waiting to happen. Just let the people wait 10 mins for a lane to open up. That’s how most pools work. Other than that good gym but not really geared towards the hardcore crowd. Mostly the few days a week recreational crowd.

Why even have basketball courts if they are always being taken up for volleyball or pickleball and even 3 year old golf, yes kindergarten golf this is real something that they feel deserves the basketball courts time more than actual basketball. There’s three courts and of my two days off only one of them is is open on one of my days off at a convenient time. Do not waste your money here if you wanna play basketball

We went to the YMCA and when we went upstairs to go in the treadmill this worker came up to us and said we were too young but we are both thirteen. She also kept on talking to us and giving us the dirty eye every time we walked past her. Girl with orange hair. She said that she will let it slide this time but never again even though again we are above age.!.!.!

Definitely would put a better review, but decent equipment. No lat pull-down machine, deadlift platforms, only 2 bench’s. And the dumbbells only go up to 100lbs. Doug at the front is the best! The true reason I’m leaving a lower review- the morning talk show radio BS is absolutely atrocious. I would like to work out to music at 7am, but I just hear a very annoying talk show that plays and I’m talking horrible, they play a recorder that sounds like nails on a chalk board and talk about the weather

NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY! honestly with their terrible hours and lack of access to the pool, just save your money and avoid it! We have 3 little kids under 4 and only wanted to use the splash pad and were kicked out by someone who isn’t even a staff member! Jill (Regina) who provides private swim lessons kept yelling at me and also threatened me! Cleanliness is subpar since the bathroom was covered in crap and for over 2 hours, it didn’t get cleaned! Granted who knows if it was actually cleaned after we told staff considering we didn’t stay after that. Avoid this place where they charge for memberships that members CANT EVEN ACCESS!

Very nice facility. Has a pool with an area for little kids, 3 basketball courts, a track, a large area for lifting weights, and a selection of treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, and rowers. They also have a number of group areas and a drop in day care area for kids.

Great big building . It's kept up nice , so nice and clean . The staff is very friendly and helpful .
** edit / addition **
The refs who were in charge of the court today of the B-ball game did a great job of calling some plays and also help coach the girls while on the court. They obviously beings they were young kids didn't call every single thing . They did great and were VERY Patient.

Coming from a larger metro area this was one of the better kids swim programs (under 5 years old). Having other kids in a class can be helpful versus private lessons which may be more intimidating 1:1. I wished the kids pool was a bit warmer, but thankfully during the winter they adjusted the temperature a bit warmer (some of the kids looked blue), so not as bad but still colder than like a SwimKids or Goldfish pool. The facilities are clean and staff all friendly. I wish there were more afternoon lessons (just Thurs) since by evenings most kids are tired and have a harder time paying attention although I suspect more parents want evening lessons to deconflict with work. I also really wish I could just book open swim online (or look up the schedule) but instead I have to call in every day we want to swim (it's fine but I'm antisocial and it makes planning ahead harder). We got the family pass on the end of year promotional rate, and signing up for two programs a month breaks about even with the current fees. I'm looking forward to using more of the facilities/programs when my kids are older.

I have been a longtime member of YMCAs here and in other parts of the world. This is an excellent facility and a great addition to the community. I especially love that there is open swim access to an indoor pool over the winter. The reason I could only give it a three star review is, not everyone works a Mon-Fri/9-5. Since the reduction in hours during/after the pandemic, access to the pool is not offered for the late hours that it used to be.

Staff is unwelcoming, rude, and lazy. "Welcoming" staff is a joke in every aspect from dress attire, laziness, customer service and does not represent a gym attmosohere. They are more interested in their personal needs and next break or meal than those of their customers. No help with getting you set up and how to use equipment, do classes ect. I felt very out of place and un comfortable. I was also told 2 different cancel by dates for my membership and ended up being charged for another month when I canceled by 1 said date I was told. I'd never spend my $$ there again and they are the EXACT reason why people don't go to the gym! Would not recommend if you are new to exercising, working out or the community.

They don't sell day passes at this location, when most other YMCA branches do. They don’t allow you to “try out” their facility unless you outright join or are a member at another YMCA.

Large facility for all your fitness needs. If you want to play basketball, there’s three full courts. If you want to swim a couple laps in da pool, you can (gotta reserve a lane though). Maybe you had a long day at work, and just want to wind down, well they’ve got a hot-tub! If you want to get a massive pump in the gym, there’s a variety of machines, free weights, pull up bars, benches, and squat racks. If you’re looking to practice volleyball, or play racquetball or handball, they’ve got two racquetball courts. The YMCA’s hours are super easy to incorporate into any schedule. The facility’s staff is super nice too. If I could give more stars, I would.

Used this brand new facility this winter to work out in over winter break. Was incredibly impressed by the kind and helpful service, the cleanliness of the equipment and spaces, and the beautiful facility that lets in tons of light. Was a highlight of my day each time I went. The pool is clean and the scheduling for it is organized. So glad this facility can be a spot for our community to gather and grow in wellness.

Huge waste of time to come here I would not recommend the pool is most likely closed anyways. The Y in cedar rapids is much better ran even though it's smaller. You don't have to reserve a spot in the pool like it's a restaurant or something like you do here. Who uses the pool area for a meeting area too???

This facility should really just change its name to “Teen Daycare Facility”.
Went to get a membership and watched as groups and groups of children started pouring in. Most went straight to the free weights area or grabbed basketballs to go sit on their phones in the basketball court. When I asked the guy at the front desk what the minimum age in the weights area was, “oh, there’s a sign at the top of the stairs, I honestly can’t tell you…” “wait, you work here?” “Yeah, there’s normally a supervisor up there”
Even still, 13? 13 is the appropriate age to be unsupervised in the free weights area? With the amount of “over 13” children up there, I deemed trying to get an actual lift in with their limited equipment wasn’t going to viable. Oh, never saw the “supervisor” either. I’ll drive the extra 8 minutes to go somewhere else.
So, if you’re looking for a cheaper daycare facility for your teen near Linn-Mar high, just sign them up here.

Very nice facility—with a pool that is rarely available. The large pool is only available for lap swim by sign up only, and it’s difficult to reserve a spot. The smaller, shallower pool is usually full and it’s not great for adults and teenagers. We would appreciate if you’d make the large pool available for a family swim from time to time.

If you are a hooper, don't sign up here, EVER. There are so many other options that have more hoopers to play in anyways. The courts are constantly closed to "youth activities", and even the court schedules on their website are often erroneous. On weekends you'd be lucky to have 1 hour of open gym court to the public.

I have really enjoyed amyexperience at the YMCA, except for one person. I talked to Jason, fantastic person, and it seems that this person has been working out or 13 years. All he is does is weights, never cardio and he is constantly grunting and making all kinds of horrible sounds. You would think that he is about to have a heart attach. The staff at the YMCA has asked him to stop, but he will not. So, be aware if this person is there and you can hear him everywhere, your at at the YMCA will not be that enjoyable, I know Planet fitness does not allow this kind of behavior.

My normal Y is the one in downtown CR so I'll be comparing the two. This was a 20min drive as opposed to a 5min drive but not the reason for the 3 stars
Pros:
Brand new equipment, and facility, and looks really nice. 2 pools, one for lap swimming and one shallow for kids and other activities. The cardio equipment is brand new and looks very nice and I would love to see the downtown one get some new equipment, didn't see any stair machines there but I wasn't there for cardio so I might have just missed them. The crossfit equipment is open for anyone to use, unlike the downtown one where it's locked and the only way to use it is for you to be with a trainer. The squart racks, for me, were the highlight because of the adjustable safety bar on them. Also the parking is 10x better than the parking at the downtown Y.
Cons:
Missing a lot of amenities that the downtown Y has.
1. No lockers by weight equipment. Not so much in the summer time but in the winter time it's a hassle. The only lockers that they have are the ones by the basketball courts and swimming pool. Normally this wouldn't be a huge issue but since I can normally store my things in a locker that is within eye shot the majority of the time I'm there I don't carry a lock on me. So just so I could keep an eye on my things I put them in a pile on the floor.
2. No cable station. The Y downtown has a cable station that you can do rows, lat pulldown, triceps, and a lot other exercises that the new Y doesn't have. As stated before they have the for crossfit equipment that is similar, but if you've never used it before it can be intimidating to use. They do have a small cable station but it's made for 2 people to use but is no where near the amount of exercises to the original.
3. No assisted dip or pull station. I use this as a warm up whenever I am doing pull ups or dips. Just another piece of equipment that is missing.
4. No mirrors in front of the squat racks. All the mirrors are in front of the dumbbells.
5. No place to do core workouts. They do have machines that focus on core but I like to do floor workouts for core, like planks. They have mats available to do floor workouts but I felt that no matter where I would do my workouts, I felt I was in the way of some equipment or machines.
6. Masks. Before I start, I am NOT opposed to wearing a mask. I wear a mask in before my workout and I wear one when I finished and I'm ready to leave without any fuss or complaint. But if you forget your mask in the locker room and you need to use the bathroom, the staff are not afraid to jump down your throat about you not wearing a mask. This is something new to me since this isn't an issue with the Y downtown, I use the bathroom, wash my hands, and get back to my workout without any issue. This rule wouldn't be so bad if they had lockers up by the equipment so it's more easily accessable in case you forget.
Recommend:
I would say if this Y is not your normal Y or is not the closet one, I would not go. The extra travel is not worth it for the few good things about it.

First of all they have no signage outside the building to indicate that this was the Y. This is one of the scariest places I have ever been. The whole building is very dark, and the ladies locker room is NOT SECURED. I immediately felt very uncomfortable and unsafe after walking into the ladies locker room... It is just a large, open area with a door propped open and anyone could just walk in. The area was dirty, there were several community hairbrushes on the counter filled with hair, a showerhead being held on by pink duct tape, and empty crumpled plastic grocery bags all over the place. There were no paper towels at the sinks so they provided Kleenex to dry your hands with instead.. Against my better judgement I went to the weight room and found run down and broken and STICKY equipment, broken mirrors patched with electrical tape and no place to stretch or warm up. Some woman was doing yoga in a tiny dark corner while a teenaged employee stood and watched her. The only other person there was an old and sweaty man who did not wipe down a single piece of equipment that he used. At that point I had had enough and left after only a few minutes. I would not suggest anyone actually go here unless you want to risk to be assaulted or worse, raped, in a dark locker room where probably nobody would hear/care if you screamed. Rather workout in a dark alley downtown at midnight. It's probably safer.

I would never recommend this place to anyone. I went there with my sister and I put my son in daycare. When I waked in one of the daycare providers right away stated that they don't change diapers, feed them. Ok great, like I want you to do any of that for my child. He said rudely as well. When I walked Into the room I didn't see any toys on the floor and there was a kid about 5 years old who kept running out of the room and back into the room. He was the only child before I dropped my son off and there were TWO workers. I was gone for 45 minutes before I heard my son screaming in pain. I ran into the room and asked what happened. The girl who was holding my son said "he was trying to stand up and fell on his face." My son can't stand up on his, and when I looked around there weren't any toys on the floor for him to play with. The room was spot clean. I made a report of what happened and when I spoke to the director she told me that the daycare provider stated that my son was "crawling for a toy and slipped on his face." Why would I get two different contradicting stories? I want to know what my son was doing for 45 minutes without any toys on the floor. The director also said that when a kid puts a toy into his mouth they take it and put it into a bin for it to be disinfected. So she basically said that every time my son put a toy in his mouth the provider took it from his hand and put it into a bin to be disinfected. I've never had an issue with the downtown Y and every time I go there they always have toys on the floor and they are always on the floor playing with the kids.
Seriously though I still want to know what my son was doing for 45 minutes without any toys on the floor for him to play with??????
