Pros:
A very well organized gym with a really nice staff. The extra amenities are great (adjustable kilter board and tension board plus a workout room). These amenities are mainly helpful for experienced climbers.

Cons:
The setting is very poor. There are many climbs that have no clear beginning or end - sometimes even on the same problem. When you do find a problem to climb, the grading has so many issues. For one, the grades appear to be set by a team that believes it is better to make sand bagged grades rather than clear grades. For instance, they set a "VB" (the easiest possible grade) that is on the steepest overhang. The climb was easily a V2 in even a steeply graded gym. Some climbs start off and make sense as a V0/1 and then have a V3 move as the last move of the climb.

All of this to say - this gym was very disappointing to bring new climbers. There were about 5 total climbs appropriate for even an athletic beginner. And then for the more experienced climbers with us, we had to basically ignore the grading system entirely.

If I climbed at this gym again, I would only climb on the kilter and tension boards. If those didn't exist and the staff wasn't extremely kind, this would easily be a 2 star gym.

@Dryrockinc has a recovery meet up first Thursday every month at 6:00p. The staff treats us wonderfully and we always have an amazing time. Im looking forward to growing sober activities in Lawrence and especially our partnership with Climb Lawrence 🧗‍♀️

I’m a newer member and climber since late July, and I have to say this place is amazing. The staff here are all wonderful, super open and sweet people, and I feel like I can connect with any of them easily. I love the community and the sense of camaraderie that is promoted here by staff and fellow climbers. It’s a very clean facility with lots of fun, challenging walls. It’s awesome getting to connect with people at all different skill levels all looking out for each other and having them encourage one another to get better at climbing. I think it would be really cool if Climb Lawrence added something like “completion” pins for successfully doing a grade.

I work at a local insurance office in town and anytime I get the chance I always try and refer people to go and give Climb a shot.

Thank you Climb Lawrence Staff and fellow community members for making climbing such a great and fun part of my life.

I've been to larger gyms, with more economic memberships. I'm sure there would be a lot more members if it was just slightly cheaper. It feels inaccessible for students, unfortunately.

We were in town moving a child into KU. My 15 yo is an avid climber in Minneapolis and he had asked to try out Climb Lawrence. The staff was very friendly, the cost is reasonable the bouldering was great, he said. Thank you for a great experience.

I’ve visited Climb Lawrence with my two daughters; once for a Girl Scout activity and once for a family outing. The kids really like it and we’ll probably go back soon!

We took our 3 grandchildren, ages 7, 7 and 9. They loved it and we stayed 1.5 hours. They were so proud of themselves for all the routes they successfully climbed. We only offered support and encouragement. Will go back next time they are in Lawrence

Out of curiosity, I took my 9 year old grandaughter here to check it out. Her first time experience was a total hit! All our questions were answered and well explained, other climbers were most helpful, the various levels were both challenging and rewarding.

The staff were excellent and pleasant towards me on all levels, especially on my birthday when I wanted to climb on the climbing walls and the tour was awesome and the entire place made me feel great.

Climb Lawrence is a NEW climbing space in Lawrence, across from the amazing public library. My nephew has been attending classes for a short while and the idea of the week long summer camp came into discussion. Both my son and nephew had a GREAT week learning and climbing with a wonderful instructor 😊.
