This gym does not seem to be maintained very well. It pretty consistently has the nastiest bathroom in Lawrence. Spend about 15 seconds looking at the toilets and you can tell they haven’t been more than wiped down in years. You text the sign that they need attention and nothing happens. Locker room is always out of paper towels, every hand sanitizer in the building is always empty. Stuff is always broken, why are both leg extension machines down at once? The place is always packed. It’s a mile from KU so management likely knows they don’t have to keep up with much because when one person quits them, five more sign up. Which also means you’re gonna be waiting on half the machines you want for your workout any time after 3pm during the school year. This is by far one of the most poorly maintained gyms and definitely the most poorly maintained Crunch in the area

Usually, this is a great gym. I was receiving training sessions. I choose to stop them in August 2025. On October 10, a training session payment, $110 came out of my bank. It was not authorized. I called Crunch. They agreed it should not have happened. I spoke with Amber, who is in charge of training sessions. She said her boss had to authorize it. After 1 week, I called back. Amber said she will check with her boss. Two weeks, same thing. I called today, October 31. Amber said she didn’t think he did it and thought he won’t do it. I asked why. She said they don’t do refunds. This wasn’t my mistake it was crunches.

I received a phone call from the regional manager, Scott. He was asking about the incident above. He stated someone accidentally put a freeze on my account and then it resumed payments. He apologized and gave me refund. Scott was very professional and apologetic about the whole incident. Other than this one incident, I think Crunch is a very nice gym. After speaking with Scott, I feel they generally care about their members.

Tried to downgrade my account a year ago and thought I downgraded, but they continued charging me for the peak performance package. Apparently the front desk never recorded my downgrade properly or this is fraud in upper management. I’ve been continued to be charged for peak results even though I don’t utilize it or want it. In order to view your current package, you also have to read the fine print on an invoice on their website. I called the assistant manager and they had no record of me downgrading even though I remember signing a form and talking to the folks at the front desk. Remember to take a selfie with the front desk people with a timestamp if you ever downgrade because the management won't believe you and/or don’t have the power to refund. The behavior seems fraudulent to me and it doesn’t sound like I’m the first and probably won’t be the last to experience this. Hope this warning helped you decide whether or not to come here.

If we want to talk about the state of the gym. There is at least one treadmill that doesn’t work (the heart tab is ripped off) and there is an elliptical machine that clearly needs to be tuned up because the distance is always wrong. Also, if you hit the gym at peak hours, it is super hard to hit the muscle groups that you'd want to hit and you kind of get what you can get.

My experience with crunch has been disappointing and I would not recommend them for the reasons provided above.

The Men’s sauna is filthy. The floor hasn’t been cleaned for 2 days now. Trash on the floor plus dried blood drops in spots too. The word “Help” is marked on the glass door to the sauna. Not sure who is supposed to clean but they need to be fired.

I’ve heard that this gym wasn’t the best, but I was actually impressed. The machine seemed pretty well maintained. Of course I was only working on one group of muscles that night. One thing for sure though is the people are friendly. Nothing beats Lawrence. It’s a great college town. My main complaints is there’s only one clock that I could see. And it’s not even digital. I would love every crunch to have a digital clock that has seconds on it on every wall!! Also would be good if they had phone holders on each machine.

Rating this 5 stars just because I've had a great experience with my personal trainer Amber.

Its bright and colorful and its a great vibe some days. Definitely have a lot of good memories at Crunch.

I will warn folks that I had a heck of a time getting them to cancel my membership and stop charging me.

There's also an overwhelming amount of "influencers" filming everywhere and I mean EVERYWHERE.

500% I bring a lock for my locker as I've had folks move my wallet and shoes randomly and throw them in a muddy locker. Took me forever to find them. And there were tons of empty lockers so I really have no idea what motivated that.

This is no less than the 7th time in the last year that I have came here to workout and the building is locked and there is nobody here!!! I run a business and I expect my employees to be to work early and ready when it's time to unlock the doors!! There are probably 15 cars in the parking lot and another 15 that have left waiting for the building to open. It is now 35 minutes past opening. I hate to say as I love the facility and pricing, but this is becoming the normal, not the exception.

I thought they had this under control, but slowly it has started happening again. It is now 7:14, and nobody is here to unlock the doors on Saturday the September 13th, 2025. I can't understand how you run a business like this.

Please do not be fooled by the 4 star rating.. I had the same experience as nearly everyone else who rated one star. They are very scammy and will charge you as much as they can get away with. They also make it very difficult to cancel membership and the staff are no help at all. I have had this membership not even three months and was charged close to $300 dollars total (seriously). They will even push your cancellation date back without telling you.. I don’t care to rant about everything they are doing wrong but I do wish I never would have signed up in the first place. I will be contacting my bank to get my money back like the other reviewers.

I have had complications that caused a bunch of late fees which were not to my fault or anyone else's it was because my bank froze all charges from "Anytime Fitness" in Olathe which somehow caused this location to be frozen too. Though I did try to work out getting those charges refunded or to get the charges to pay for some other services. Angel - the assistant manager - would not work anything out and was incredibly unhelpful and disrespectful so I decided to cancel my membership. The night staff I found to be respectful but it is a shame the management at this location seems to put customer service and ethics low on their priority.

Management and employees are completely illogical and insane. I live on the Kansas Missouri border. The only reason why I even got a membership to this Jim as they first advertised that they were going to be open 24 seven. That turned out to be 24 five. And then that turned out to be even less than that. I called to cancel my membership and they’re telling me I have to drive all the way out to Lawrence to do so. because in their words as they gave me an example, they explained to me well what if somebody doesn’t like you and just calls and cancels your membership. My only other option is to go to the post office and send a certified letter to them. The person that I talk to was extremely rude and informed me that late fees are going to keep piling up. Well good luck with that! I literally had to call my bank to report them to get them to stop taking money out of my account. I haven’t even been to the gym one time in the year that I’ve had my membership. And yet they want me to keep paying for my membership no matter what the cost. Now I understand why they only have 2 1/2 stars on yelp.

The classes are great, love the instructors. The childcare is terrible. What is a good gym when your kids don’t want to go? My 1 year old was put in time out last year for taking a toy, he had never been in time out before, that was traumatic when he didn't understand. Someone with experience would have told him to trade toys or play with him until he was distracted.

Today my toddler was playing with his brother and bit his shirt, again not him but his shirt. Do toddlers not put everything in their mouth? Apparently that counts as biting and there is a no tolerance policy.

I have at least 5 friends who have had issues with childcare as well. I would like to see the childcare have a staff that are experienced and knowledgable, warm and friendly. I will stop going to this gym until the childcare staff / management changes.

I wanted to apologize! A few days ago, I was aggravated and disappointed. My actions got out of the way, and I wanted to cancel my membership. In life things happen, it may not happen when it is expected, and the day that I was aggravated, that was one of my days.

In all honesty I enjoy getting up at 2.30am and having that drive that I need. Yes the equipment has wears and tears. This establishment gets busy during early morning and most of the afternoons.

I will say that the restroom would need some tidiness because the last couple of days the restrooms were dirty.

In conclusion the staff members are wonderful, even the management. I wanted to apologize again for my aggravation and disappointment. Things happen, and yes I will continue my workout here at Crunch Fitness.

Apparently the crunch staff are mechanics now?? Allow me to explain, I went to use the leg extension machine and there was a screw sticking out, tried to use it and the pin dropped( the leg pad w weight on it dropped)
So I thought I’d let the staff know, a young fellow came over and said they put the screw there to fix it, he messed around w it for a sec then said “ya it should be good to go now” no shade to the employees I know this isn’t there job and they probably don’t get paid enough to care, but it’s safe to say some equipment here might not be safe to use! My only issue so far; Monday morning at 3am I walked to the gym. Online says you are open 24 hours Mon-Fri. The "hours" sign on the front windows also say that. Yet the doors were locked. All lights were on, all the tvs were on, but no employees were there.

They are thieves. I cancelled my membership after 1 month. Supposedly my card got declined the 2nd month, which my account should have been cancelled. They didn't contact me until October 2024 claiming I haven't been paying my membership on a cancelled gym membership. I told them I cancelled it after the first month, the girl on the phone back then told me that I needed to come to the gym to talk to rhe manager who leaves at 5, I don't get off work until 430 and told her that I wouldn't make it in time, can I talk to them on the phone, she said she would have them look into it and if there was a problem they would contact me back. I never recieved a call from them so I figured everything was alright. Today 03/26/25 I recieved a call from a debt collector telling me I owe Crunch over $200 for using a gym twice in one month and rhen cancelling the memebership. They are liars and thieves stay away from this place and when you cancel you gym membership and even if it shows that your memebership is cancelled in their app make sure it actually is because they will just reopen your account and charge you for months of a membership you cancelled and didn't use. FYI I have reciepts and you guys will be hearing from my lawyer soon.

Wow, I have been dedicated to the Crunch franchise since they built one in Topeka.
I started coming to the Lawrence one because it is indeed where I live now.
I love how I have all the equipment I am looking for in terms of body building.
This location seriously NEEDS A RENOVATION!
An expansion is heavily needed or even another location. Granted Lawrence isn’t a large city, but the volume is insane 90% of the time.
Equipment here has been used and abused.
Also, cleanliness of everything as well NEEDS ADDRESSED. I get it, employees are needed to make this happen. But maybe just maybe increasing the pay might increase staff (I hope).
Other than these issues, I’m able to get my workout in 90% of the time efficiently.
I DID notice they replaced the benches in the women’s sauna so that’s a start. NEXT, the floor needs redone and the deadlift platforms NEED REPLACED!!! They are uneven. Please take this review and the others seriously.

I love Crunch! Been going here a year and I have almost zero complaints. The good is the staff, equipment, their rest and recovery section, prices and more importantly what you get for your money. The bad is the cleanliness, it used to be a lot better but I think they lost a lot of their staff recently so I’ll give them that, the wait on the water fountain is sometimes really annoying as there is only 2 and only one that has the water bottle filler although i know they just throw more water fountains on the wall it’s something to think about! Finally, broken machines. They DO repair most machines very quickly like the stair masters and treads, but one of my daily machines (rope puller) has been broken for over a month. Overall I love this gym and would recommend if you can deal with reality!

This branch of crunch is not run well. Constant broken equipment. The womens locker room is always dirty or out of something. It's packed constantly. They don't clean the machines either and the members hardly clean them so they are all disgusting. The lockers in the women's room have been caked with salt and stuff from the storm for days.

pros: the price for membership + group fitness classes is super reasonable, there is a good selection of equipment, and the dry sauna is a bonus.
cons: DO NOT sign up for personal training. It has been a frustrating experience to say the least. First of all, if you ever do a "crunch one kickoff" it is basically just a way for them to try to market PT to you (very aggressively). I did agree to sign up, and then was assigned 3 different trainers in less than 2 months (as they all kept quitting, seemingly due to management issues) so I couldn't ever develop a consistent routine or relationship with any of them. The price is ridiculously exorbitant ($55 for a 30 minute session, and you have to agree to a minimum of 4 sessions/month) and usually the trainers can't even follow their original plan because all of the equipment they planned on using is already taken. I finally decided to "freeze" my plan, and was still charged twice after freezing. After multiple calls and in-person visits, they finally agreed to refund one of those charges. However, it has been three weeks, and I have yet to receive the refund or any follow-up communication (that they said they would provide).

Edit: They never refunded me for the "frozen" sessions AND continued to charge me for personal training for months after signing official cancellation paperwork. I went in to the gym multiple times, called, and emailed and continued to be charged. Avoid their PT program at all costs.

This is a place that could be cool but it needs a ton of improvement , things are dirty , nothing is wiped down properly and there's no extra cleaning going on.
A lot of the college students are using the equipment and in between sets they sit on their phone on social media or music or texting.
I have asked several people if they were using the equipment and they said yeah I'm in between sets, i'm just taking a break, and they weren't even hardly working out after a set of 10 reps maybe or something simple. They were more involved in their phones and their social media and they're texting and chit-chatting with their friends.
The showers and bathrooms for the men's side in this place are very dirty and smelly and smell of urine, the cleaning needs to be done 100% better, the showers are so disgusting I don't know how anyone uses them.
Also the sauna, you can go in there but, it feels dirty, it doesn't feel cleandue to the filth and smells in this bathroom.
I would not recommend this place.... to anybody!!!

I have talked to several people and found that the only reason it's so busy and so packed is , not for the popularity or the cleanliness of the place but because it's the only good gym there that is still decent, the other one is just okay it's not a place they want to go so there's not a lot of choices..
Also I noticed that there's a lot going on up front, but not a lot of help,
It seems like they staff will show up to congregate in the front and that is where they remain , unless you pay for help.
But instead of walking around and trying to keep people happy and letting people know, hey finish your work out so other people can use the equipment or what have you, they avoid that face to face , possibly fearing that they will upset people and people will leave angry.
It is not a positive environment I can't recommend this place at the moment

Been going here for a long time but the cleanliness has gotten out of hand. The men’s bathroom hasn’t had paper towels in weeks. The trash has been overfilled for weeks as well. You’re lucky if you get to clean the machine you’re using because there’s been multiple times where the sanitation station has been completely out of paper towels and sanitizer. Only good thing about this gym is they have every machine you could want, but even recently a lot of machines have been out of order.

Unfortunately I’ve tried to give this gym chance after chance, but unfortunately the cleanliness is always questionable, the sanitation bottles have been empty multiple times, as well as towels to clean equipment leaving people without a way to clean equipment. Once on a Saturday 3 bottles were empty so I went and grabbed one from a less busy area of the gym just so we could clean our equipment.
bathrooms are almost always dirty, out of tp, trash on the floor, even one of the doors in the girls bathroom hasn’t worked for over 4 months, the equipment and gym floor also seem to lack a cleaning. One Saturday evening they only had ONE SINGLE EMPLOYEE in the whole gym, and yes the gym was busy, I felt kinda bad for that guy tbh he was tryna clean, but there was an overwhelming amount of people trying to get help at the front desk. And yes I have brought these issues to the attention of the staff working there.

This a pretty standard crunch but just understand it is absolutely full of college students virtually year round. It’s a bit much actually, Iike I wonder if KU even has a gym…They need to double the size of that gym. There’s not enough leg equipment during normal times. It’s also not the cleanest place just too many damn kids and too many kids working there imo lol. It gets the job done but often just feels like a bad episode of love island in there. Not bad enough to avoid just maybe prioritize non peak times and make sure to wash your hands.

this was a while back, but don’t come here, they scammed me out of $300. when i spoke with them, they said “we don’t do refunds” and said i could come in to use the $300 worth of stuff instead of giving me my money back. when they put ANOTHER charge on my account that i couldn’t have, i called and they refunded it, so they just lied about not refunding my $300. do not go here.

edit: i wasn’t told about any responsibility to an agreement. i was told - after my card was charged - to cancel the subscription with a PT (who i came in for a trial because i got a free session or something, i don’t fully remember since it was a while ago) if i didn’t want to continue with the sessions. i had told the trainer in person that i didn’t want to continue with the sessions and to stop. he then contacted me afterwards, it was two weeks to my recollection, and said my card would be charged - however he was not clear to me if/that i had to go through a process to cancel, i had told him that i wanted to cancel. when i already went in after this, i talked to the manager, i don’t remember his name, and he said no, “we don’t do refunds”. he explicitly told me that. i don’t usually get upset about things like this and leave negative reviews, but this was just a bad experience. i’ve moved out of kansas now so i can’t come in.

My schedule is always changing. I choose crunch because I used to work 12hrs shifts 7pm-7am. So on my days off I would come around 1am cause that’s when I woke up and stuff but it’s sucks cause now they close early at 12am….and then now I work mornings shifts 4:30am-3:30pm and even when they say there are open online I would walk in and they would be closed. Nothings worst then taking prework and finding out the gym you pay for is closed. :(

Great gym, nice and clean, friendly staff… my only bone to pick with this place is how can you possibly say OPEN 24 hours a day for 5 days a week (24/5) when it doesn’t open until 5am on Monday? That wouldn’t be open for 24 hours on Monday… I get there at 3:30am on Monday and it’s locked with one staff member working out. Maybe I’m missing something here. I think your motto should be more like 24/4… I even checked the hours on Google before I came and sure enough.

I came in from out of town and needed a workout, so my sister recommended Crunch. The staff was welcoming, friendly and explained where everything was. In addition, the members were so down-to-earth and engaging and ecouraging. Every gym has its "vibe" and this one resonated with me. I tried another gym in Lawrence, but there was no comparison. I highly recommend Crunch. It will continue to be my workout place when I am in town! Keep up the great work!

So i signed up for personal training, had four different trainers over 3 month period. Cancelled after that, was improperly cancelled. Was still charged after that, Fighting them for refund of the overcharge. The management sucks and is not following through. multiple emails and calls. And still gotten no where on a refund. I only going during off peak hours and don't use facilities or class but good range of equipment, never busy when I go. Staff are friendly and approachable.

Only downside so far is why are 4/6 TVs ALWAYS Fox News? Unpleasant as I usually zone out at a TV while working out but now have to avoid them, don't mind a variety including fox but there's no variety

I always visit at night (around midnight) and the workers are always just chilling... The paper towels are almost always empty in the bathroom, and only rarely stocked out on the floor.

But this is not the main issue here at crunch fitness. The sauna is growing things underneath the benches! It smells foul! Also one of the workers one night wouldn't let me use the massage chairs because the system to check is I was a pro member was down ... Like I pay $30 a month to use these and this dude gives me a hard time.

The only reason I'm leaving 2 stars instead of 1 is because the gym itself is practical. The picture attached is a screenshot from a video of the men's sauna. There's filth all over...

First was the bait and switch flyer for sign up fees. I was told it was out of date, yet it was kept at the front desk. It advertised something like, $85, but then the real fee ended up being over $100. Left the known incorrect flyer at the front desk when we were done. That's not legal. The contract was fast talked and I was not permitted to read it and had to sign a pad on the other side of the monitor the contract was on. Fees were not explained. When I intentionally withheld payment for a week to see what would happen, a $15 payment turned into $99.11. Which I paid and ended my contract. I was "accidentally" charged that twice. That's a rate that would make credit card companies blush!

My husband and I have been coming to crunch fitness since Jan. I started out coming as a guest then decided to get my own membership. We are always greeted as soon as we walk in and hear a see ya later when we leave. Patrick is extremely personable and friendly and has helped us since the beginning and explained things wonderfully while we went through the sign up process or when we have questions. The equipment is nice, but it's pretty crowded most times and it's hard to find parking. I was hoping to get in better shape here and felt really judged by some of the members. I am going to cancel my membership, which they also require you to do in person.

I had a big issue in canceling my agreement. It was really frustrating but ultimately was able to get it taken care of. My advice is to be aware of what you're signing and keep reaching out until you get your answers. Higher ups are great and understanding once you get through to them! Too crowded. They blast the Rap and techno. The floor in the weight room is ripped up. One of the staff members likes to walk around eating fried chicken in the weight area. No pool. Hidden fees and the two nights a week I NEED it to be 24 hrs it isn't

MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO CANCEL MEMBERSHIP. I have moved out of state over the summer and had forgotten to cancel my gym membership. Didn’t think it would be much of a problem because we have the internet. I have tried calling, emailing, even sent an inquiry to corporate to get this membership cancelled but I haven’t received ANY RESPONSE. It has been months. On top of that, my base membership payment has gone from the $10 to $20 without any notification to me whatsoever. I don’t even live there anymore, let me cancel this damn membership.

Good gym equipment, and great variety of workouts available. There’s a HIIT area, free weights, racks, plenty of benches, treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, stair machines, cables, smith machines, and weight machines. There’s a classroom, and spin room as well. The staff is helpful, and friendly! There’s a few things that need upgrades, but overall a great place to get toned, and fit.

I would HIGHLY DISCOURAGE anyone to join Crunch Fitness. They run a very scummy business and make it extremely difficult to get out of the contract when you are done. My daughter, a student at KU, joined and tried to to quit in May 2023. It has taken until now (10/25/23) to finally have her membership terminated. I called and spoke to the manager today and he just laughed on the phone, as my daughter was standing in front of him at the gym and she was in tears. Who does that?! They have zero customer service. They also tacked on another annual fee as well as another month before finally saying she could terminate her membership. Take your business elsewhere, or be warned when its time to be done.

Unfortunately, in Lawrence you are extremely limited on gyms in town. You’re either going to pay $50 for a dirty, outdated Genesis or you’re going to pay $20 for a rude, overly crowded Crunch.

This place gets 2 stars for Reagan and Ca’Sean and for the price point. It’s a good thing it’s cheap because this place is a mess.

Management (except Reagan) seem like they have never worked in a gym or customer service based business ever. I have known multiple people in the last few months that have switched gyms because of how unprofessional this place is.

Vacuuming WITH A CORDED vacuum at 5pm when it’s so busy that you have to wait 10 minutes for any equipment is asinine.

Vacuuming on a platform while someone is ACTIVELY squatting on that platform is dangerous and ridiculous…. And it was done by the Manager. You can still maintain a clean facility and not make people uncomfortable and at risk of injury.

Having your employees submit 5 star reviews over the last month is just pathetic. How about you just fix the issues and stop replying in an unprofessional and snarky way to those who are addressing issues with your facility and policies?
