The gym has recently undergone a full renovation. The place is excellent now although it was still pretty good before. I have been using this gym under other management for two decades and will probably stick around for another.

Genesis is the best gym in the Kansas City area! By far my favorite place to workout. Alleigh helped me sign up it was super smooth and easy process. Alleigh introduced me to Wendy and Gemma and they are awesome! I love getting to say hi to them, it makes my day:) Gemma is also the best trainer ever!!

Great gym, Really should have at least 1 location in Johnson county that is open 24/7. Every club closes too early for those who work evenings or nights. For the price each city should have at least one.

All summer long I was allowed to bring in my big brothers big sisters “little sister” with me to the gym. She was under my diamond membership.
When I asked what changed, the staff at the counter and what I assume to be the manager were totally apathetic and rude to me. They made my sister upset and think she was in trouble. I mentioned that I pay $180 a month to be there already. The manager told me I could just go pay $190 per person at lifetime.

They forced her to bring her father inside for a waiver I could have signed and tried to sell him a membership when I told them it was not needed. I paid $25 for her to be there. I will be going somewhere else where I’m treated like a human being. Your front desk needs to be retrained how to treat customers, especially when I pay a ridiculous amount of money to be there.

Nice renovation completed but they don’t have resistance bands. Even their lower tier gyms can keep bands around, but the staff here shrugs their shoulders and can’t seem to solve this unsolvable problem.

The new renovation is great. Went in for the grand opening as my sisters +1, and I like it better than some of their other higher level locations. Alleigh helped me out with some questions when I was signing in, and let me know about the grand opening specials. She was extremely informative and helpful without being at all pushy, which I love. She made time to answer all my questions. I signed up for a membership today. Facilities were clean and in good shape, nice locker room. Weights were plentiful and great machines as well. Treadmills were SMOOTH running, not filled with winter salt yet. Pool looked great as well. Steam rooms were working. I recommend at least taking a look, if you need a gym. All the staff were great and helpful- but especially Alleigh!

This is one of my favorite Genesis gyms run by a one of my favorite Genesis managers, Chris. This location used to be rundown, as they bought it from a company who bought it from Prairie Life and needless to say, they spent a lot of money and resurrected it to a level far above what it was at its former peak.

Everything is new and improved, and the staff is friendly and helpful. They interact with members better than any of the gyms around here. They also listen and make improvements as they go, which is pretty darn intuitive.

And speaking of intuition, I happen to be hearing impaired and years ago, when I was signing my contract, they were very helpful by taking it slow, which I very much appreciated.

The equipment is all brand new, so it should be great for many years to come. The pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, and free weight areas are all top drawer.

All in all, a great gym!

I delayed visiting this gym due to the poor reviews. Big mistake. Apparently those reviews are old and outdated. I was pleasantly surprised when I went in and had a tour of the facility. With brand new renovations this gym looks new and sparkling clean. The front desk, manager, and new prospects employee Wendy were approachable, knowledgeable, and welcoming. I noticed they had all new equipment, with machines I had never seen before. The layout and design is very workout friendly. They have A indoor track upstairs. They have A indoor pool, outdoor pool, and separate jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna for men and women. The rooms for classes were spacious. There were plenty of free classes available. With the affordable rates. I signed up on the spot and received 4 free one hour personal training sessions. So far it has never been crowded. If you are looking for a gym check it out you won’t be disappointed. There is a grand reopening 9/13/25 to show off what basically looks like a brand new facility.

The recent renovation is a huge improvement and it's nice to have a high-quality facility to work out in. As you move towards the grand opening, it would be nice if you added shades in the front windows for the mind-body room because it's very distracting to be able to see people walking by and also it's too bright in the room Without some sort of shades. There are screens right now blocking two windows, but they don't cover the whole thing and then the middle current just looks tacky.. it doesn't fit with the overall imprivemrnts

Toured the new club today and it looks very impressive after the $10M facelift. Wendy was in charge of showing me around and it needs to be said I could not believe she was doing this for just a week. She sounds and acts like a veteran, her sales skills were tactical, smart, she knew how to read the room and, best of all, the timing of her questions was impeccable. One deal breaker though, the gym needs to go beyond 10pm. Everyone in the area is doing it by now.

Anyone who knows me understands that I do NOT write public reviews! However, I felt compelled to give a new review of the Genesis Health Club in East Olathe where I have been a member for 6 years or so. Honestly in the past I would have rated this establishment 2-3 stars. It wasn't always clean, the help were not reliable, and talking with the manager was like talking to a poll. However, since the remodeling and hiring of a new manager, Christopher Branham, the place has changed dramatically. There appears to be many more staff around and they are actually paying attention. The women's shower is very clean (loving the new hot tub), and there are always plenty of towels. In talking with Christopher, he actually asked ME questions about how I was feeling about the place, and wrote down my comments. Our conversation came up when he was helping me out with some family members in town (and he was MORE than accommodating). He was curious about my opinion since I have been a long standing member. Bottom line, it is a positive turning point for the club, and I would highly recommend that you come for a visit and talk with Christopher personally.

I’ve been going to this gym since I was 10 I’m now 15 and I cancelled my membership many times due to how nasty and uncomfortable I would feel in the locker room, and how nasty the gym was but now I can say they have flipped the script here, ever since the remodel has been done the gym feels like a more clean environment and I genuinely have fun now and the tiles are nice and whole new design is just perfect, the crew working is also very nice and respectful and helpful I have not had problems at all with them very hostile people, I think the remodel has helped a lot, and I genuinely love this gym and I personally can 100% recommend you guys to get a membership here it’s worth it

Ok I’m going to jump in here and make some people that I do care about mad at me but facts are facts. We have been members at this club for 11 years. When we joined it was Prairie Life and it was wonderful! Neil Houston was one of the owners and he was a stand up , honest and exuberant guy that was always ready to help and to make things better for his clients. The club changed ownership a couple of times after Neil left and I am sad to report that the changes were not an improvement. Downhill all the way. It is true that the women’s locker room was often dirty and the bathroom stalls always smelled bad. But last winter things took even a worse turn. During the winter when we had all that snow and ice, no one bothered….. ever….. to get the parking lot cleared. Literally when I would drive into the parking lot my huge suburban would thump and bump and slide over the piled up snow and ice. It gets worse. My husband is elderly and has had back surgery as well as several knee surgeries. His mobility is the primary reason for his membership. When I realized how dangerous the parking lot was for him I emailed a man named Rodney who evidently is the top owner and reported this issue. Got a form response saying basically nothing. Nothing was done. The next week the young man who was my trainer at the time…. a very strong 20 year old…. slipped on the ice and nearly fell. The next day my husband was trying to get into the gym and reinjured one of his knees. I went to the front office and begged someone to do something. Nothing. Ever. Just nothing done. So I told my husband to start parking right in front of the door but he didn’t want to do that. He is very kind and doesn’t want to cause any problems anywhere.
Then the construction. Oh my. Literally the women’s locker room smelled so awful that I had to get in and out as fast as possible so I would not gag. Very often it is stuffy and humid in the gym area as I assume they don’t want to use a lot of A/C.
But in the midst of all this we kept up our membership. We had a family membership for my husband and I and our son. Then I added on my 13 year old grandson for $34 + tax each month. Now. This is the nail in the coffin. We recently moved to a new house further out in Olathe and decided to end our membership at Genesis because of the expense. Other gyms in the same area are much cheaper. We have always understood that we have to give a 30 day notice and must pay for that 30 days. So my husband went in on April 15 to cancel and was informed that we would have to pay through June 15. I cannot understand why. How that 15+15 doesn’t =30 but they we’re unmovable. Plus when my husband checked on our membership, it turned out we had been paying for two other family members that my husband had canceled at least a year earlier PLUS another person whom we do not even know. When my husband asked if we could at least not pay for those 3 extra people that last month he was told no. It was too late to change that.
Personally I’m furious. This is lousy business at best. It is borderline dishonest and terrible service. Please do not throw your money to this club. It is not honest.

Ok. Now here is an update. It is June 10 and I spoke to Chris Branham about this whole mess and he was very kind and respectful and has gone to some measures to make up for some of these events I mentioned above. Although my husband and I and our son are still ending our membership, Mr Branham graciously gave our young grandson an extended membership at a frozen rate plus gave both my husband and I some free passes. Please understand that I did not post this complaint in order to get “freebies”. I just am of the opinion that a large business like this has to be held responsible for their actions. Mr Branham pointed out that most of these issues were due to prior management which is probably true. Still the buck has to stop somewhere. I’m hoping the gym will address all these issues and wish the best.

DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM. Don’t let the remodel fool you. It’s still owned by the same company and run by the same management team. So within 6-12 months it will be nasty again. I’ve been a member of several big box gyms and this one is BY FAR the worst. Just gross. I can only speak for the men’s locker room, but it’s shockingly disgusting. The grout between the tiles is black, spells like pee, and nothing is ever cleaned. As far as the workout area, there’s a 1-2 inch layer of dust/hair on anything over 6 foot tall. Super fun breathing that in. Machines are broken alllll the time and take months and months to get fixed. I mean the water bottle filler in the workout area was broke for well over 6 months for goodness sake. WATER! Kinda need that. Pretty much every machine has something wrong with it or needs to be serviced. At one point 4 out of the 6 stair masters were broke for over a month. I messaged management at one point asking about several of these issues and when they would be fixed and got NOTHING back. They literally don’t care. Genesis buys existing gyms and slaps their name on the building. They make no effort to improve it until the place is literally about to fall apart. But again, don’t let the remodel fool you. It’ll be back to its normal disgusting gym soon enough. Management absolutely sucks and doesn’t care.

Absolutely the worst people to work with. I had given them 30 days notice of cancellation for my membership in October, they still charged me for November, I let go and still paid for the membership just did not attend the gym anymore. Today is December 4th and they gave me a call saying that I still have a balance for December even though I made sure I canceled my membership! They are saying they will send me to collections if I don’t pay my remaining balance? That’s a ridiculous. This Gym was under construction literally half of the time I attended and most passages were closed off or you could barely use the bathroom for that time. They stopped me multiple times when I tried to go to the other “bigger” branches because that was a different membership kind when the staff at my current gym had already let me know we could use it while it was under construction!

This company is the absolute worst. They are greedy and do not care about their customers.

Hello, my name is Carson. I review gyms in the Kansas City Area. Today we will be looking at “Genesis- East Olathe”

A solid gym for what it’s worth. Everything upstairs is good and works fine. However most machines besides the hammer strength machines are pretty outdated and slightly broken.

The building is definitely ready for the remodel coming soon. From the outdated tile floors, to the gross bathroom/ locker room walls.

One thing I wish they did that would be an easy fix is supplying towels in the locker room. I commonly have to come back and grab towels after I have already entered the locker room.

The front desk is always very kind and friendly. The trainers do a good job as well. Busy at common busy times but empty at other times.

Final notes; the pool is a solid size and the outdoor pool is decent as well. Although both are very outdated, they get the job done. The basketball court needs improvement.

This gym fits the standard for the price in my opinion. It is a great setup for the average gym-goer. However, doesn’t exceed any expectations

Only reason we go to this location is because it’s close. This gym is absolutely filthy. Been here several mornings and absolutely NO EMPLOYEES working. Paper towels empty, towels not out for guest, management is rude. When someone is working they mostly stand around. Last week I saw employee wipe down the weights and use the same towel to wipe the drinking fountain. Now all the equipment upstairs is starting to fall apart.

★ 3

First, let me say that my personal trainer is fantastic! And the staff are personable and they try hard. But upper management (and I mean corporate office) should stop buying/building new facilities and spend some attention and money on what they have.
Let's say access to clean towels is a basic expectation of a gym.
But today (again), they had no towels available. Said they would have towels ready in an hour. Hour later, after my workout - no towels! The staff apologize, but first say they're so busy on Saturday mornings they can't keep up. So, we should not come when we're able because they can't provide a pretty basic item like clean towels? This is a recurring problem. Another staff member tells me they don't have enough people or staff hours, and the equipment takes too long (an hour for the dryer). The obvious solution would be more employee hours to provide clean towels and upgrade equipment so the facility can meet the needs of its members. Of course, that would require the corporate office to address the problem since it's beyond the capability of the staff.
Other issues (corporate - are you listening?): the potholes have been fixed, but seriously, the parking lot needs to be repaved. This is the first thing prospective members see/experience. I appreciate that the mold on the venting upstairs has been cleaned; quite an improvement. Now how about cleaning elsewhere? The whirlpool in the ladies locker room has a collection of brown stuff in the corners (I'd think it was sand, but there's no source for sand in the club...) that should be removed. It's been there for a long time - months and months. At least they try to regularly remove the ring around the whirlpool. Lastly, batteries aren't that expensive. How about checking the weight equipment and replacing the dead batteries? It's a nice feature for the equipment to keep track of your reps - when it works.

So my advice is bring your own towel and blow dryer (yah, they no longer provide those). Enjoy the staff, because they are very nice and really try. But lower your expectations for other things.

"Room for Improvement in Cleanliness and Maintenance"

Review:
I've been a member of Genesis Olathe East for a while now and appreciate many aspects of this gym, especially the variety of equipment. For me, they truly do offer all that I need to reach my fitness goals, especially with their investments in boxing assets, and swimming pools. However, I believe there are areas that need urgent attention to ensure a better experience for all members.

Towel Service:
The inventory of their towels has declined severely. I used to be able to walk in and there were plenty of bath towels, hand towels, and orange-striped cleaning towels. And those cleaning towels were fully stocked among the 2nd floor. Now, there don't ever seem to be anything but bath towels. I've been using 3 bath towels to use for a shower, sweat, and wiping down equipment. I really value good towel service. Gotta get some more towels guys.

Family Restroom by Men's Locker Room:
I've noticed that the base of the toilet in the family restroom near the men's locker room is not being cleaned regularly. This is a basic hygiene issue that needs to be addressed.

Men's Shower Room:
Several concerns here:

* Both paper towel dispensers are out of order.
* There's visible black mold on the ceiling of all the showers, which could be a health concern.
* The shower closest to the steam room is extremely difficult to turn off.
* The floor often seems neglected and IMHO needs more frequent cleaning, especially during peak hours.
* In the steam room, several tiles are broken, and a section of the upper bench is collapsing. I kind of liked it in that it was like having bucket seats in a steam room. That said, it not only detracts from the experience but also may pose a safety risk to some.
* The water hose in the steam room has a grimy buildup, indicating it hasn't been cleaned in a while.

As a loyal member, I'm bringing these issues up with the hope that they will be promptly addressed. Maintaining cleanliness and proper functioning of the facilities is crucial for a pleasant gym environment. I'm looking forward to seeing these improvements and continuing my fitness journey at Genesis Olathe East.

Equipment broken for months. New reports of equipment not fixed. Holes in walls for months. Can’t believe how Genesis runs clubs compared to previos generations at this club.

Really good gym well run with lots of amenities. Used to go here when it was prairie life and when it became genesis the prices did skyrocket and it went downhill a little but I would say overall still a good gym. Worst thing was when they took out half the basketball court for a cardio area. Always over run by children. Tragic.

Been a member here for years. It is really gone downhill. Dirty pools and spas. Yuck! And now swim time is severely restricted by swim clinics from the OP facility whose pool is under construction. Getting really hard to justify membership here. Think it’s time to find a new gym😖

I love this Genesis location. We have been coming to this gym for years and truly enjoy our workouts here. The kids club is the best thing ever and my daughter is always well taken care of, and gets so excited when we get to the gym. Would recommend this gym to anyone looking for solid equipment, convenient classes (I love spin), and quality childcare!

Traveling for work, I dropped into Genesis Club East Olathe. They generously allowed me to have a 4 day pass, so I could get a little work in while on the road. Friendly staff and a good amount of cardio and strength equipment. Older facility and gear, mostly well kept and clean and was perfect for what I needed for the week.

I’ve been a member here for 5 years. THE ONLY reason why I stay is because of the Kids Club!! They deserve 10 STARS! Anna the manager is THE best! ALL of the staff for the kids club are amazing. They give me peace of mind knowing that my 4yr old is safe and being taken care of. They are constantly cleaning when not playing with the kiddos! The kids club is the cleanest area of the gym! I would switch gyms but I can’t have my daughter anywhere else. I trust them with my daughter and that’s why I will never leave! I appreciate them so much.

Sadly this review would have been 5 stars had it been a better experience with the manager Nick Grover when I had to cancel my membership due to moving.

I had been a member off and on here for 5+ years. Typical gym, though maintenance isn't the best but the kids club folks and the class instructors are fantastic.

Anyway, I called to cancel in early June of 2023 as we were supposed to move in July. I was told that I had to come in person to cancel or go online to fill out a form and send it in. Being extremely busy with a sudden move across the country, I didn't do any of those things. However, in July I went on-line to find the form I was told about. I couldn't find it anywhere. I e-mailed the gym manager, Nick, about cancelling my membership. It took at least a week to get a response from him, but he did eventually respond saying he would go ahead and cancel my membership but that I would still be charged for August since it was less than a 30 day notice. I am frustrated by this poor customer service given that I was given false information when I called to cancel in what would have been 30 days from moving and was given inaccurate information that I had to come to the gym in-person or fill out a form online (that doesn't exist) to cancel. I e-mailed Nick back explaining this and requested that I not be charged for August at the very least. He did not respond, and we were still charged.

Despite having great childcare and great classes, I have to give 1-star until Genesis acknowledges this poor business practice. Clearly, the employee I spoke with on the phone could have connected me with someone who could have cancelled my membership over the phone and gave me false information that resulted in me being charged for 2 months ($200) unnecessarily. Sketchy business practices are unacceptable in my book and therefore I have to give 1-star. I feel this is poor treatment for a customer who was very loyal for many years.

I just wanted to share this so hopefully this doesn't happen to anyone else. I signed up on their website for the free 3 day trial. They said to come in to activate I did not need to call. I get there and the manager on duty on July 30th at approx 4PM greeted me after I informed the worker at the front that I had signed up for the 3 day pass. I had asked my friends to come with me to help me look at it because of anxiety that I have. He looked at me and told me that he absolutely is not doing the 3 day pass for ANYONE. but since I was there he would let me in- but made sure to act as if I was wasting his time by coming into the business. He took my name and then did not help me with anything. I am 30 and I was looking for an exercise and fun pool to go to with my 2 year old son and I was told that they offered swimming lessons when I called. He heavily implied to me that the gym was only for experienced people who have been to gyms before and know what they are doing. The most helpful people there were not the workers AT ALL. The most kind people there were certainly NOT employed by this establishment. The patrons were the only people who offered me help to know what I was supposed to do and what I wasn't. It was beyond humiliating for me I already have horrible anxiety and to not be welcomed when the website and the people I had talked to acted like I could try it and get used to it and to be told to basically never come back again.. it was hurtful. I hope no one ever has to experience what I did.

Outside a shortage of towels, the gym creates a good environment to work out, relax, and decompress from a long day at work.

It's an active gym so there is some wear and tear on some equipment, but it doesn't hinder the function. I do see they repair them regularly.

You might have seen other reviews about the smells in the locker room. It's true it's a bit on the grimy side and not as well maintained as they properly want, but it's functional and they do keep up with the soaps and shampoo on a regular basis and have seen them replace damaged shower curtains and shower heads.

Very busy most of the time, large groups of teenagers working out together, which would be fine if it were allowed. I've tried working out with my friends in groups and I get kicked out of the gym! The rules only apply to some of the members and if you are not "in the club" then you'll be harassed by the trainers and asked to leave. This literally just happened to me today. Time for a new gym. Been coming to this gym for a couple years now and I must say it has been the best experience I have ever had in terms of customer service, cleanliness, child care, equipment, etc. I could ramble all day about how great this place is but I’ll just give you a couple of my personal highlights here. All the staff members are very friendly and knowledgeable about any question you have. The gym has outstanding parking at all times of the day. The best personal trainers are offered at great prices. Lastly, the gym is never too packed or cramped, I can always get a good workout in. I would recommend you go to Jordan for your needs. He was very respectful, professional, answered all my questions, and made sure this gym was the right fit for me. You will not be disappointed at this gym!

This location was a 4-5 star gym BEFORE genesis purchased it. Was a member of this location for 10 years and THERE IS NO WAY IN THE WORLD this is anything more than a 2 star facility now that genesis runs it. The men's locker room is full of mold, broken equipment isn't repaired for weeks, mirrors on the weight room floor are broken, snow and ice removal of the parking lot is non-existent and multiple equipment pads have tears that need to be replaced monthly. All of the clubs purchased by genesis in this area have been run into the ground. Go to any 24 Hour Fitness, Gold's Gym or Aspen location that was purchased by genesis in the greater Kansas City area and you will see an incredible decline in maintenance and cleanliness.

Pros: Has all equipment needed as well as amenities to offer such as a pool, sauna, upstairs track and basketball court.
Cons: Machines/stations seem scattered. Typically you see leg machines together, arms together, etc, but these seem to be mixed all together. Not the biggest deal, but hard to find specific equipment. Biggest pet peave is customers don't put weights back, so they're scattered as well. Staff only is cleaning towels the whole time so they're not helping with making sure weights are back where they should be. Also nobody is ever working the "cafe" spot. Would be nice to get a protein smoothie if on a time crunch. Basketballs are absolutely terrible and no air typically.
I gave a 3 cause the potential is there, I just think it needs better day to day management to take it serious. Compared to others I've gone to for the same price, this one needs a little more care and attention
