Great cycling studio with excellent spin bikes. There are plenty of lanes in the pool so it is always accessible. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

The North Overland Park location is my families favorite because of the family friendly environment but I’m a stickler for service and they never disappoint! I lost my car keys, a personal problem. I asked one of the staff if they’d seen them and they immediately jumped in to help. Chelsea recruited the front desk and management teams to help me find them! She didn’t have to do that and the other staff also went all out. Thank you very much for going above and beyond for an old man!

I wish the hours were longer. Since Covid I have not seen them go back to normal hours. We all would appreciate having a bigger chance at attending if the hours were a bit longer. Each location is different. Today the top level one next to me will be closed by 6. That doesn’t work for people who have a different shift.
Please go back to the extended hours again on the weekends at all locations.

Best weight lifting equipment of all the KC Genesis locations. Over 80 group fitness classes offered, my favorite is yoga flow on Fridays 10am. The virtual cycle program is amazing. I pop in over my lunch break and get a killer workout. Kids love the pools & swim instructors. Child watch is wonderful and offers parents day out/parents night out.

I’ve been a loyal Genesis member for over 4 years, paying more than $85/month consistently. Until now, I never imagined I’d be writing a review like this — but the way I was treated during a vulnerable moment was absolutely unacceptable.

Due to a severe ankle sprain, my doctor has advised strict bed rest for at least a month, possibly longer. Naturally, I called the gym to freeze my account temporarily while I recover. I spoke with someone named Dan, who was not just unhelpful, but downright insensitive and rude.

He told me I should’ve known in advance that I was going to get injured and given a 30-day notice. Let that sink in — apparently, we’re supposed to predict accidents now. When I tried to explain my current condition and the medical advice I received, he brushed it off and said something along the lines of, “I sprain my ankle all the time and still come lift weights. It’s nothing serious. You can still come swim.”

This was not only incredibly dismissive, but also dangerous advice to give someone who’s clearly injured and following medical guidance. He even asked me to provide a doctor’s note proving I couldn’t walk — as if the pain and medical orders aren’t enough.

At a time when I needed understanding and support the most, all they cared about was money. No flexibility, no compassion — just policies and gaslighting.

Frankly, if this is how Genesis treats its long-time members during a medical emergency, I’m done. I won’t be coming back, and I would strongly discourage anyone from signing up for a place that prioritizes profits over people.

There are plenty of gyms out there that respect your health and treat their members with basic human decency — this isn’t one of them.

The membership guy was nice and gave me a free shake so that was nice! They made it seem like the platinum membership works everywhere, but it doesn’t actually work at the South OP location (which is nicer) so I had to upgrade to diamond membership to use that location. The personal trainer was nice during the free fitness consultation, but ghosted me as soon as I couldn’t afford to pay $200+ per week for her sessions, so kinda fake. The gym itself is pretty crowded during evening hours and not very clean, with almost no spray bottles, and the locker room smells bad. They also are lacking in some of the popular machines, such as only having one pec deck. They have a lot of other nice amenities and free classes, but if you’re only using it for the gym, it’s not worth paying 9x more than Crunch/PF imo. Friendly staff tho!

Genesis is THE destination for a great workout without the hassle of crowds and pretentiousness! I am a mile swimmer and the pool is the perfect place for me to get in my laps and feel energized afterwards. All that with towel service and great locker room spaces make this location a no brainer for health minded people!

*******new edit below******. This location smells like raw sewage. Literally. It has smelled like this for months thru this remodel. You would think at some point they would fix that smell pronto. Seems like a health hazard. It's hard to breathe once you walk in let alone in the women's locker rooms. Then the heat of the building makes the smell like hot feces. I'm surprised they are open thru this. It can't be healthy. It's been months smelling like this and now worse since the ripped up the floors and base board areas. I love the gym but I feel like this is a snails pace. No relief in site other than change locations. It's getting unbearable. ******* New edit. It is now April 16th of 2024. The locker rooms are almost finished all but one small section. The showers are done half the bathrooms are done and it's completely open for the public use now and even the in locker room private hot tub is now available. But here's the problem I've gone to all the other Genesis and none of the locker rooms smell like raw sewage and the sewage smell is still permeating heavily throughout the locker rooms and is absolutely disgusting. Bathrooms are disgusting. Sometimes I can even smell the raw sewage on the outside of the building before even stepping foot indoors. It seems like they just decided to cover over it with new construction in acts like it doesn't exist.
New edit..... 2025. Bathrooms are disgusting. It looks like they clean them with some type of brown stuff that almost looks like excrement. It's terrifying to touch the walls of the bathroom stalls. And just to let you all know this stuff is brand new and not even a year old. The hot tub in the ladies bathroom has tons of body oil grime and filth and dirt all over the lower walls. The equipment is ripping apart while they raise the prices on all of us to exorbitant amounts. Green mold on the hot tub in the women's locker room. This is about the filthiest gym I have ever been a part of. Your health is not a factor.

I've been a member a genesis for over a year and every health club I've been to has been good or great....except this one. Idk who the people are that run this facility, but the management needs to do a quality control check. It's one thing for staff to be busy helping other people or doing their jobs, but I drawn a pretty big line at waiting for 20 minutes at the drink counter, not 5, not 10....20 minutes waiting g for a protein shake while staff at the counter and walking by make eye contact with me and even nod to acknowledge my existence. Then proceed to keep chatting with each other and gossiping about their personal lives. Then finally a girl comes over to give a customer ice, then looks at me and says. " oh our manager is the only one who can make protein shakes, he won't be here for 40 minutes".....

Dear genesis: Get your crap together! Every other location more than one person makes protein shakes!

I joined about three weeks ago at the Lee’s Summit location, but work in OP so it’s nice to have a gym nearby. I’ve found the North OP location to be decent so far. I usually go in the evenings and it’s pretty consistently crowded (assume it’s partly the New Years resolution fad). Good variation of weight machines, nice open stretching area which is turf, and a track around the upstairs perimeter if you want to switch it up from the treadmill for cardio. The sauna and stream are nice, although I wish the steam room would be hotter. The staff is pretty attentive.

In love the facilities here! So far I have only used the pool, hot tub, sauna, and steam room. Sauna is a little small but the hot tubs (multiple) are huge! One big one in pool and smaller one in locker rooms. Also it looks like there is one outside. All the staff have been very friendly and helpful. I came to swim one night and I could tell there was some type of swim practice happening. The front desk staff let me know 2 lanes were open for members and the swim team graciously shared the lanes with me and even offered to open a different one up. I like the size of pool (25 meters) and 6 lanes. I have also seen other triathletes training here, which I love. I had read reviews about rude or unhelpful staff, but I have not had any negative interactions and they all seemed polite and helpful. Can’t wait for the outdoor pool to open! Checking out the gym this weekend.

They charged my card over $200 in unauthorized charges. In fact, they can't even see they did it. I sent proof. They have not communicated with me as to how this will be resolved. This has been horrible customer service, including being hung up on. What a shame that my personal trainer of many years no longer gets my business. I started with this club almost 25 years ago. Since becoming Genesis I have not had consistent good experiences.

Their restrooms & showers are always dirty. Morning, day, evening it doesn’t matter what time you go there, the toilet is clogged up with waste and paper. Shower walls have dirt marks on them. For what we’re paying a month, it isn’t too much to ask them to have a staff to clean the showers/toilets a couple times a day.

It seems disrespectful to my pocket, you have to pay $120 a month and see the low quality of cleanliness and hygiene in the bathrooms. The jacuzzi has not been maintained or cleaned for around three months. It is empty and has been empty for days. The steam room doesn't even work, it's a mess. Apart from little security, they stole my strength belt and no one was responsible for it. I really don't understand. If they continue like this, I think I'm going to consider changing gyms.

Mostly a great remodel. Place looks nice. Except for one super stupid ommission... everything got a great face-lift except the tiles in the the whirlpool in the men's locker room. There are the same decrepit small square "used to be white but are now gross off-white yellow" that used to be there inside the whirlpool. For real, that's like getting four new tires, new brakes, buffing out the scratches, and still leaving your muffler dangling on the ground.

Wow…the remodel that was “supposed to be done by Christmas, but it will probably be March” is finally getting close. But close is not done, and I’m not sure when it’s done, there will be any real benefits to the user. It will just look nicer. First and foremost, it’s HOT HOT HOT in the groupex, spin and Yoga rooms. I mean, HOT! Several fans running and ceiling fans installed but still dripping. And they took out the clock with the thermometer on it so we wouldn’t focus on that. Second, it smells. I know it’s a gym, but smells like a dead animal or sewer gas. Very unpleasant at 6 am! Finally, still no sauna for the ladies….except in the Groupex room 🤣🤣🤣. Please help! Love this club, the instructors and the friends I’ve made, but…

The Renovation is beautiful yet incomplete after more than a year. The Group X, SPIN and yoga rooms do not have functioning air conditioning. Like last summer the temp in group X room varies between 74 and 80 degrees. And, it’s happening again this year. Most regulatory bodies for fitness and physical exercise recommend the optimal temp 68-72 Fahrenheit. Management acknowledges they have no info when the AC will be fixed. Extremely disappointing as I’ve been a member at this club for 10 years. It’s uncomfortable and unhealthy (pregnant folks and the elderly). Do better Genesis!

They do not enforce social distancing at all. They just put up laminated signs, which people then just move and ignore. It is definitely over crowded. Especially the weights area upstairs. Often there aren't even towels for cleaning equipment after use and you have to walk all over the gym to find one. The staff knows that people are moving the signs too. A few times I have had staff members approach me while working out to advertise their classes. They are super aggressive with advertising. I had to call in to get off their email list, because the unsubscribe button would not work.

After the renovation they crowded all the weight lifting equipment too close together. While changing the weights on the Hammer Strength stations on the back north wall I hit my head on an adjacent station's bar. I could easily see someone else accidentally hitting it and getting hurt.

Fantastic gym, the equipment is quality, and the staff are great. But I swear nobody knows how to put a damn weight back, even on the squat racks and flat bench. You can walk through that gym at any time of day and find 15 machines where somebody didn't put their weights back. Kind of pathetic. Time to suspend some memberships, Genesis.

So I joined this Genesis before it was remodeled and it used to be pretty good. Friendly staff, access to everything, the works. Renovations happened and everything changed. The staff at the front have completely lost interest in working it seems and the place STINKS. You'd think a gym willing to raise your membership fee would at least look into a problem that has been going on for FIVE MONTHS. The renovations do look nice, but it feels like a bandaid on the larger issue.

Would give 0 zero stars if I could. I was told this location will be newly renovated soon and was convinced to pay $71 a month to have a gym close to home. I showed up to have to follow arrows around the building just to find the door. The employee at the front didn’t look up or acknowledge my existence, he was too concerned about his phone. I will be canceling my membership. The quality of the gym and staff have continued to go down hill. There are many safety concerns with the construction going on - I have had workers cutting tile feet away from my workout with dust being shot into the air, there have been several times that the gym was 82 degrees or warmer, and not to mention I had a nail go through my shoe. I don't think the gym should even be operating right now. Very disappointed with the staff and management.

This gym is actively unsafe and needs to be investigated by OSHA. There are ongoing construction activities with no thought or planning put into the actively used gym equipment in the area. I have had gym equipment dropped on me by workers, balls thrown at me by staff while running on a treadmill, and my treadmill unplugged with no notice while sprinting (twice). The management and staff do not care for safety and see these instances as common place. The gym is also filthy with no showers and one functional water fountain in the entire facility.

After tonight I would give this a 0 star. Seriously out of control in the pool and hot tub. Parents with young children playing ball, jumping and diving into pool and hot tub while class is taking place. Makes it very difficult to enjoy gym time. Didn't even try to use the hot tub with that chaos. I joined a gym, not a day care center. Very frustrating. I have been with this location through multiple ownerships and loved it until Genesis purchased. While they have made many updates, the biggest change I’ve noticed is the standard to which employees are held. Rather than being greeted at the door, employees are sitting behind the desk on their phone. Equipment has had used tissues and chewed up gum on it, but rather than keep the club clean, employees are playing basketball with each other. The club is going downhill fast

I've been a member of this gym since it was Prairie Life, then The Athletic Club, and now Genesis. Half the gym is under consuction, pouring hundreds of thousands of dollars into it, and they can't manage to keep the air condition on. It's 87°F in the whole gym for weeks at a time. This is not conducive to a good workout or a pleasant experience in a gym.

I had a genesis membership from 2016-2021. I attempted to cancel due to the management being disrespectful once they found out my membership level. I was spoken to in a demeaning way and told there were other genesis close for me instead.

I had great experiences at the Topeka and both Lawrence locations. However the Overland Park one has a terrible manager and staff. I worked out during their construction having to go along the back way walking through mud and never cared or complained. Once construction was complete the bald manager became more rude to anyone not at the highest membership level.

This location has a lot of new updates that I am looking forward too! The new general manager has gone out of his way to introduce himself to everyone that walks through the door and discuss the exciting new additions coming to this location and provide guidance on when the updates should be done. I’d definitely recommend this location for anyone looking for a new gym. Plus they have two outdoor pools for the summer! A+

Overall mid.

The touch points could use some replacement.

The weights are strewn around like a bunch of old legos.

I don’t think the floors have ever had any sort of wet cleaning.

I really enjoyed this gym in the Prairie Life days - back then, the hours went to midnight and they had a full basketball court. Then "The Athletic Club" made a mess of things and went to 10 p.m. and the basketball court was cut in half. I've inquired before and was told the plan was to go back to midnight after covid and they were discussing bringing back the full court - neither have appeared to happen, so not a member for now.

The facility is old and moldy and I canceled my membership a few month ago but they still charge my account and haven’t got money back for extra charges. I don’t think I will be a member.

Joined because they have a basketball court. Was told that they would be doing renovations but until then would keep the court maintained… they haven’t. I have requested the nets to be fixed 5 times. I even had to bring a ladder myself to fix them twice. Now this is what they look like.

Rodney’s Zumba classes have really helped me get back my strength and balance. I have been able to go on crazy hikes and started running again. All because of Rodney’s classes. He has great energy and is alway positive. It doesn’t matter how uncoordinated I am he makes it super fun. Thank you Rodney.

Enrolled during a special , well a day after but I was told I would still get the rate of the special at $76/mo . During enrollment I paid around $80. A week later I was charged $90 & told that I was paying for the month and the week before was a prorated amount . I haven’t been at this gym longer than a month to be being charged for a month . I spoke with Ryan who advised he would speak with his manager about maybe not charging me until April 1st. No one called back I called a few more times . He advised the manager wasn’t available offered free thing. Said he would call back & nothing . Cool gym but the taxes and fees are a bit much . If you are charged incorrectly they may not be able to do anything. Other than that it’s okay .

I have been visiting Genesis gym on and off for couple years now. I had a very bad experience with one of the location in Overland Park, KS.

I asked them to close my account from June in May because I was traveling out of country for couple months in June. There was no proper person handling the closing the account. I kept mailing them about the closure. Once I am back from my vacation, I saw the account is still active. When I confronted them. The management was completely changed and they were not at all helpful and in fact blaming me that I might have forgotten about cancellation , that was very humiliating. I know I am not going to get my 150$ back but hopefully someone else can read this and avoid this location.Every time I went and asked in person the new manager keeps telling I will call you back and he never does. It is so disrespectful that he keeps on lying to my face.
