I was so impressed with this Genesis location! I’m an out-of-tower who was looking for a nice place to workout during my visit, and Genesis delivered. The gym felt clean, welcoming, and well-run. The staff were incredibly friendly and the atmosphere was super encouraging.

The equipment selection was top-notch: tons of machines, plenty of free weights, great cardio options, and everything was well-maintained. This gym had everything I needed and more. I highly recommend Genesis to anyone!

So I just went into the locker room my locker is open and i can smell the woman's perfume who was in it...thank God I lock my bag with a personal lock.....

I go to front desk when I report it he acted very weird just said okay didn't ask any questions or anything and then goes to talk to someone else...then I ask for general managers number and he claims he doesn't have then I ask whom he gave the key to and very quickly with anger responds I didn't give the key to anyone without making eye contact. I was really looking forward to checking out this gym, but my experience at the front desk completely ruined it for me.
When I mentioned that I had been coming from Genesis gold gym, the front desk staff’s attitude completely changed. She became rude and unprofessional, making me feel unwelcome and judged just because of where I used to work out.

A gym should be a place where everyone feels comfortable and supported, no matter where they come from or how much they pay. Unfortunately, I left feeling disrespected and unwelcome. First impressions matter, and this one was very disappointing….

This is a really nice location! It is more expensive than other Genesis clubs, but it’s also cleaner, more spacious, has more equipment, and less busy during peak hours. Sometimes there are broken machines, but usually just cardio machines and they are fixed pretty quickly. The staff is friendly and helpful. One thing they could add is a second Smith machine, and they could get some more barbell clips and cable machine attachments, since there aren’t very many and kind of worn out. Otherwise it’s a great place to workout!

Luxury? I think not. My husband got sick after coming to the 110th street location in OP less than a week. Cleaning supplies were not adequate and all members didn't use them. Club manager, Heath says that his daily job is to ensure (25) bottles are onsite each morning, but my husband begs to differ as it was hard for him to readily find supplies. Also, if you choose to do monthly option you cannot just pay for (1) month. You will have to pay for a minimum of (2) months. Month 1 will be the month that you join - prorated if applicable and then month 2 will be 30 days after that. For example, we joined 3/10/25 and was pro-rated for March - $154. Cancellation notice was given 3/11/25. A full month's billing was then billed on 4/1/25 - $171 with cancellation to be effective 5/1/25. That's a minimum of $325.

Additionally, Heath the club manager is not a good listener. As I explained our frustrations and encounter, his conversation centered on club statistics & offerings. Save yourselves and do not attend this club is your standard of cleanliness and honorable customer service is high.

Great experience at the overland location! Lots of cardio options with all of them working, which is nice to see. I was really happy to see all of the options available for weights as well. With 6 squat racks/dead lift platforms, I only had to wait around 15 minutes for one to become available, and I had plenty of other leg exercise options available to pass that time. The locker room is big and all of the lockers have locks with changeable codes so no need to worry about your things while your working out! They have plenty of drinking fountains around the building with good water, in case you forget your water like I did! They also have a basketball court that overlooks some of their many tennis courts! Only thing I would recommend would be to put more cleaning spray/towels around the machines. Great facility!

The facility inside is kept very clean and fairly well maintained. One question what is your threshold for plowing the parking lot after a snow storm? Overland Park got 3-4 inches of snow yesterday and it's getting wet and slushy parking and walking through it to come in.

This gym was initially a good gym to go to, but after a year, it was quite enough. As mentioned by some other reviewers, cleanliness is questionable here and it seems there’s always some kind of gym equipment broken down that’s in need of repairs, so the quality of the the gym equipment is questionable. Furthermore, the gym culture just sucks here with people not putting away their weights or dumbbells after using them, people taking gym selfies using the locker room mirror as other people are changing/getting dressed (it’s disgusting), and people not wiping down their sweat after using equipment. There are better gyms in OP with much better quality.

My experience here was fine, I'd say. Bluntly put, it's a rather expensive membership if you aren't taking advantage of amenities other than the weights and machines. If I swam more or played tennis, this might be a better value proposition.

Reason this gets 3 stars from me instead of 4 is because there often broken machines that were not quickly repaired at all. Additionally, if you sign up here, personal trainers will constantly push you to take a free personal training session, and then proceed to recommend you eight $100 sessions per month if you do. I understand this is part of the business model, but the trainers just do not get it when you're not interested, and it started to get really annoying, honestly.

I had to cancel my membership here for reasons outside of anything about Genesis itself, and when I did so the cancelation process was smooth and as they said it would be, no misleading there; so I appreciate that.

I’m from California and I come to this gym every time I visit! I travel a lot for business, and one thing that always is the worst is how most gyms try to rinse you for expensive day passes, and you end up spending hundreds of dollars since they are not willing to budge on deals during travel. Just came back here to KC for the weekend and Justin, a team member, helped me with a solid deal for the week while I’m visiting, which shows they care about all members having a great experience. The gym staff is always incredibly friendly up front and one of the cleanest gyms I’ve been to. All the equipment you need + the locker rooms are always clean, which is something I always want in a gym. Wish they had Genesis near me back in California! Would purchase a membership in a heartbeat.

The staff is awesome, Basketball & Boxing is a great stress reliever, and the All-American classes will humble you in the best way. This was my favorite gym but as of recently the equipment is literally falling apart left and right. The pins on the curl machine doesn’t latch properly so the bar holding your body down will disconnect and fling you up mid set, the leg extension is broken, the weights on the rowing machine just fall off mid set, the cable machines don’t have enough clips for bar attachments so it becomes an extra lap around the gym looking for a clip to steal from another cable machine, when machines break they’re out of commission for weeks at a time, it’s rough.

They also don’t reset the weights in the gym at all so you frequently won’t find a 10 lbs. in a whole corner of the gym and have to walk to the other to steal one off another machine. And since none of the weights are remotely organized on their storage racks no one attempts to put their weights away properly so it just gets worse.

They have pretty much all the equipment I can need but the actual state of the workout floor and equipment is rapidly declining and I’m probably gonna look for other gyms come December since most have cheap new year deals. I’d recommend looking for other gyms if you’re a potential customer.

I some case they act like they knew it was broken and blow it off. In some cases they act like they know about but just can’t seem to fix it. If management wants to call I’ll be glad to provide details.

As a follow-up to this review, 15 minutes after I posted my one star review, I received a call from Genesis and was told the 4 showers would be fixed the following day. That following day, I received a follow-up call to inform me that showers were fixed. I checked and am satisfied they are were all repaired. I’ve adjusted my rating to reflect my overall experience.

Staff very unfriendly when called. Said she was district operations manager and gave attitude from the beginning when calling about a cancellation. Go somewhere else

I try to like genesis. The workers are so rude- especially the blonde middle aged lady at the front who’s always wearing chiefs gear. The equipment is all old and 1/3 of it is always broken at most locations. I have guest passes with my membership and tried to bring a guest and they want 30 bucks.

Update: 10/24. I typically leave this place disgusted by how dirty the locker room is, & how gross the showers are. Mentioned it was pretty gross on a particularly bad day to the front desk and the response from the girl was an enthusiastic “ I know, it really is!”

This is a very busy gym and equipment which is out of order makes it even busier. Hot water fountains are gross. Screws missing from weight racks.

The location on Barclay charged my credit card. I had no services from them. I was out of the country for 7 weeks during the time the charges hit. Documents support it was them and further support it wasn't my monthly dues. I emailed docs, I met in person, etc. Zero follow through on their part. It's over $200. Sad. My trainer of 11 years no longer has my business over it.

Genesis is one of the better gyms I have been too. My only real complaint is a couple of the trainers . One has interupted me to try to tell me a different exercise to do ( I know what Im doing even if Im not super in shape ) and another straight up told me he was moving the weights I was using cause he and his client needed it.

Grip n rip drill always fun 🤩 the rules for some of the play need to be explained to new players. A lot of us are regular players there and know the pros well. They make the drill super fun.
