The men's locker room has been in need of basic upkeep and renovations for a few years now. The door between the locker room and the pool is broken. Since fall 2024, the glass door to the steam sauna has been removed from its hinges, resulting in the gym closing the sauna. Many surfaces throughout the space are completely rusted through. Parts of the ceiling are collapsing and are spotted with what appears to be black mold.

The length and consistency of this negligence is disturbing.

Honestly, I only changed Gyms because the downtown locations were convenient and the price of 8.99/mo was a good deal for access to 8 locations. Even though the downtown locations are disgusting, the grout is black in the steam room, the floors have thick layered dirt caked everywhere, there's mold in the locker rooms, and some machines needing repaired badly. All of this I overlooked because of the price and convenience because I work downtown and go the gym on my lunch exclusively. Then I had my membership renew 4/1/24. I paid the whole year in full only to find out that they slipped in a new clause stating if you didn't have their 24.99/mo membership you would lose access to the gyms with the pools. That's all of their gyms near downtown about 1/3 of their total locations and the closest one to down town on the north side. So now your options are to drive either to the complete north, south, or west side of town. They state they sent out letters on January 1st, but ironically I never received one and neither did the other members I heard complaining about it when I was filling out my cancellation notice at the corporate office. Now I'm out $120 and was told "You can still go to the North side gym" mind you that's clear out on Highway 24, almost 3 miles away and is a super tiny gym. They claim it was because people that didn't have the more expensive memberships were using the pools, but here's an idea why not just take your existing badge readers and place them on the doors leading to the pools instead of punishing likely the good majority of your members. I can't wait to see what their member dues look like next year because of all the people cancelling. The lack of oversight and the blatant disregard for their members is astounding. Must be convenient to appease the members where the gyms are located in affluent areas as most of the members that will be affected are the lower income areas likely with less access to travel to the distant locations.

Be warned: this facility does not let you control the temperature of your showers. They set all shower at the same temperature. That temperature is scalding hot! They do not care about your complaints that the water is way too hot. They don't care the temperature made a little child screen & cry because it took hot.

Decent gym to be honest, but as with most gyms the customer service is lackluster. I owe them some money and am trying to attempt to pay it via phone or online. But Before I do I wanna verify that my account got cancelled and that I won't be billed anymore. I got lucky that there was a system change and that they weren't able to auto-bill me. If they want my money send me an email or answer my calls. Used both corporate and specific location numbers only be on hold +10 minutes.

Great Life Golf and Fitness. 1. Lost my payment information during a software change, never fully explained how this happened or where my personal information disappeared to 2. Fails to communicate well with patrons, found it challenging and near confrontational asking how and when we could use facilities 3. Facilities are not well maintained or clean 4. Has written a parasitic contract that conveniently allows their business a 1 year cushion in order to replace a patron that cancels their membership. 5. Called me sir on a phone call, did not ask which pronouns I preferred that day. 6. Has inspired me to achieve the american dream - at the cost of gaining and maintaining quality human relationships - by writing a contract that legally locks the other party into an uncomfortable postion so that I can earn more money with little to no effort. I plan on directing this strategy towards vulnerable new arrivals at our southern border. I wonder if BBB will block my message a 2nd time...

I just got off the phone with their contracts manager and he informed me that they lock people into a contract to subsidize their golfing portion of their business. we have been great life members for a long time. it’s never been great, or well cared for, but it was affordable. until the last few months we’d been going to the Berkshire gym location but stopped when the overall lack of cleanliness just got worse and worse. equipment every dusty and grimy. vinyl on equipment torn badly and some machines “repaired” with duct tape and parts of yoga mats. i mentioned the lack of cleanliness, as well as the unsafe (very unsafe) handrail on the outside steps, to an employee but when i went back a few months later nothing had changed. the Western Hills and Country Club locations are only marginally better. equipment that is broken often takes weeks or months to be fixed and i don’t think i’ve ever seen any vinyl repairs. it’s very unsanitary. last year the pool at Berkshire wasn’t drained until long after summer-and the water was filthy. i talked to someone at the corporate office this week and was told all of this had to go in a written comment on the website before it could be addressed.
on top of trying to find decent equipment in a clean facility, the rates have gone up quite a bit. Oh, and the yoga mats at Western Hills are far, far past the “should be thrown away” stage.

I called and spoke to a member of great life to cancel my membership in January and was told the contract did not renew until April but that my membership would be cancelled at renewal.
In July I noticed the monthly membership was still being charged. When I called to correct the situation I was told there was nothing they could do now until the following April because they did not have the request in writing. This mistake is going to cost me over $800. I spoke to the manager “Josh” and was told I could submit a written request for next April but they would not allow me to cancel my membership before then. I even explained no one in my family has used the membership even one time since April since we were told it was to be cancelled. Great life makes no exceptions.

Great pool, but I have to mention that I found greatlife central on the public pool section on Google and they are not a public pool. There is a guest fee of 5 dollars per person if you are not a member of greatlife fitness and golf and you cannot swim without an adult present if you are under 16 years of age.

BLACK MOLD. Good facility for getting a quick work out in, heated pool, looks like they are getting ready to put new flooring down where the weight rooms are which is awesome. Has a few flaws which I can deal with, only major complaint is poor air circulation/cleaning/maintenance in shower area of women's locker room and there's black mold everywhere in there. The showers curtains have mold on them which could easily be replaced, mold on the walls, ceiling, and drain areas. Good place to go, just don't shower there.

Great amenities for the price and centrally located.

You can join a single location or all locations. This particular location offers a weight room or a workout room with various machines. Also an indoor swimming, a tanning bed, massager and dry sauna. They hold classes regularly for group activities. There are also personal trainers you can work with.

Contract Fraud: The act of deceiving or tricking the other person into signing a contract that they may not otherwise agree to.

Was decieved by an employee into signing the contract. Advised the employee we were moving to Colorado Springs and would not be needing the membership afterwards. The employee assured me that the membership could be canceled at anytime, but withheld information that I would still be responsible for paying the monthly membership after we moved out off the state. I would not have agreed to sign the contract if she had told me I would still be paying it.

I have tried to work it out with Greatlife but they are unhelpful and rude. So now I will serve them with an order to cease withdrawals from my bank account and if they try to send me to collections I will sick my lawyer on them.

It's not bad, but certainly not top of the line. The equipment is adequate though there seems to be a lot of torn seats and rusty weights. Parking is sparse and I wish they had security cameras for their parking lot across the street because this is not the safest area. My main criticism is that you are required to get a key from the front desk to use the restroom. Not sure what the purpose is to ask to use the restroom like some grade school child.....assuming you can find an employee to get a key from. They have a sneaky way of preventing you from canceling your membership so be sure and read ALL the fine print.

This is a great fitness center with machines, free weights, walking/running track, pool, gym, sauna and steam rooms. What makes it great is the easy going relaxed atmosphere. The staff and members are friendly and encouraging. There are people of all ages, shapes and sizes and I think anybody would feel comfortable here, especially those who are just starting out a new fitness plan.

Found 3 bugs in pool, charge TRIPLE what the Y on 37th & Fairlawn. This B said I couldn't get in the pool in Capri's and t-shirt. No other pool has a problem with it.. Then she continued to hover around wherever my BF & I were 🤬 The nice guy at the front desk did give me my $ back though.... will never go there again... 37th & Fairlawn Y is the place to go.

Horrible customer service! Worst contract, not possible to cancel. They also lied when I signed up, said I can use all their facilities in Topeka, was not true, only one which was really far from my home. Now they are closed due to Covid-19 but still taking money from my account every month, last was April 15th. Never return calls. I'm not using this gym for 1,5 year now, tried to cancel a few times, last time 6 month ago, not possible. Tried to call number listed on main website, they are in another state and not helping too. It's just a racket.

I'm a very disappointed member. I paid for a swim membership and was very happy to see that I could swim in the lap pool after work at 4:00 PM. However, a few months later, without any notice at all, that changed. The lap pool is closed to members every day from 3:30 to 5:30 PM. I won't be able to swim at all anymore except on the weekends. Nor do I have any recourse for a refund. In addition the attitude of the staff was very cavalier, and no one was able to tell me where or who to address my concerns to.

Blatantly dishonest. I canceled my membership by submitting the required paperwork well in advance of the annual date, several months later I noticed I was still being billed and called to inquire about it. They said - shocker - that they never received the paperwork and thus would be charged for another FULL YEAR. No exceptions. IF you consider using this gym, keep every bit of your paperwork, because you will need it for the record when they inevitably try to pull a fast one on you.

The gym itself is atrocious, limited equipment and what they do have is in disrepair, dirty locker rooms, aging and leaking ceilings. Literally zero redeeming qualities. Another lousy gym with deceptive practices and slimy management that is more concerned about bilking money than improving their facilities or even keeping them hygienic. If there is any other option in your area, steer clear of this trash pile.

I go to Great Life for their aerobics class "Cardio Blast." Great instructor. Good custodial staff. Locker room is clean. Front desk staff is friendly and helpful. I rarely use them but the machines are fairly new and popular. The weight room is heavily used.

I only gave one star because I could not give zero. This course is the absolute worst I have played in Topeka. The fairways are about 4 inches deep. I know that great life just took over the beginning of this year however if they cannot afford to have somebody out here mowing every day it does not deserve to be called a golf course. This place is a Real cowpasture.
