About a month ago I joined Lifetime Lenexa to rehab what started as a minor injury to my leg mostly derived from lack of flexibility and proper stretching. Past failures and complacency to do this sooner took me from a subtle limp to requiring a cane to walk.
It wasn't a week before I found ridiculous reasons to quit, cancel my membership and go back to what was hardly working. I don't know why it's so easy to fail, give up and go back to feeling sorry for ourselves. For me I think part of it is having spent much of my life around the wrong people I ultimately developed a fear of success that rivals that of failure. That fear no longer exists.
Back to my story, it was at this time that I met Brock who works at the front desk. Nearly 7ft tall with every inch comprised of positive energy and compassion for his members success, just an amazing person. He picked me up, got my head on straight and took a personal interest in my success as I'm sure he does every member. Whether he's working at the desk or there working out he takes a minute to check in and see how I'm doing and confirm I'm still on the right path. He does this every single time I see him without fail, he really keeps me motivated.
He also referred me to Suzie who does dynamic stretch. An equally amazing person who helped me stretch out and identified several points that need attention in order to properly heal my leg. She was also happy to give me several things I could do on my own between sessions to help me along. I do plan on seeing her monthly to gauge my success and get into more advanced stretching.
There was still something I needed from the club, something they don't typically do. The day I asked for this I was having a really bad day and was certain the answer would be no. This brought me to a man who appeared to be from somewhere out of the pages of GQ magazine, exuding professionalism in every respect of the word and one of the nicest people I ever met. I'm referring to the GM Terrence Saunders. Not only was he able to help me out, he gave me hug after doing so.....a hug, really?......YES, really!! That's the type of leader you find behind such an amazing staff.
I then found my way to the excellent staff at the Lifetime Spa, particularly Nicole who does therapeutic massage. Up until this point I never thought of massage as being much more than relaxing. I am happy to say I stand very corrected. Much like Suzie she quickly identified several problems areas and for lack of a better term detangled my lower back, hips and glutes and it feels amazing. When I left the spa I walked about 12 steps to couches and big screen they have up front where I plopped down and remained for over an hour in a state of Zen. This lasted well into the next day and I'm already looking forward to another session.
From all this one may ask what does this fantasy Island of fitness, compassion for one's success and friendliness cost? Not enough! I say this because not only is my leg getting better daily it's giving me the confidence I've so badly needed to also better myself both personally and professionally. For that there's no expense I would spare.
In life you get what you pay for with the exception of Lifetime, you get much more.
Thank you Lifetime,
James

I’ve been a member since this location opened and have watched it steadily decline from a top-tier facility to a chaotic and overpriced mess. I’ve visited Lifetime Fitness locations all over the country Dallas, Omaha, Des Moines, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Chicago, Las Vegas and even the one just down the road in Overland Park is run much smoother than Lenexa.
There are never clean towels available, and the cleaning staff travels in packs, yet it still takes four people to stand around while one person changes a roll of toilet paper. The turnover in management is constant they go through general managers faster than they can restock the towel shelves.
The gym floor has been turned into one giant group fitness area with classes blasting their own music like it’s a battle of the bands. Even with all the space they’ve been given, these groups still overflow into other areas, taking up equipment and making it nearly impossible to get a proper workout in.
Good luck if you need to drop your kids off at the Kids Center. You might be greeted by an employee literally wearing a child on her back, or see employees’ kids sleeping or eating in the lobby area. There’s no structure, no leadership, and definitely no professionalism like there was under the previous Kids Center director.
The cost of membership is outrageous. We recently joined a country club that includes a gym, pool, and golf at a lower price than Lifetime. At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this place become a Genesis Gym in a few years. Half the people inside seem to just be working a few hours to score a free membership.
Lifetime used to represent quality. Now, at Lenexa, it feels like you're paying premium prices for a subpar experience.

Lifetime Lenexa was once a decent health club, and worth the high membership fees. It is no longer. It has turned into a full-blown daycare. The basketball court/gym was the only open area for sprints or similar workouts, and now it’s used almost exclusively for children 6 days a week. No basketball or any use is allowed. I get that Lifetime wants to offer daycare services to members, but utilizing such a large area for 9 hours a day for daycare at a “premium” health club is ridiculous. That’s why daycares exist. 25% of the useable area for exercise(large court and climbing wall) available to members is now under Lifetime Daycare control, but our membership fees stayed the same. Bathrooms are now regularly dirty, and all of the amenities and facilities are aging. A person can put up with aging facilities if the overall experience is good, but old facilities with diminishing access is unacceptable.

This has got to be the worse location I’ve ever been to, because of my work schedule i arrive to the gym around 8pm, there is never enough bench chairs to use for free weights, and it’s not even that busy. they make you feel so uncomfortable when you’re working out by cleaning your work out space as if you’re in the way and they have three hours until closing.

Exercising at Lifetime Fitness is a really great experience. I recommend Lifetime very highly. The only drawback is that some people occasionally occupy a station for a long time texting on their phone, which keeps others from performing that exercise.

We will miss the daycare and the wonderful staff in the daycare center. Our kids loved going there. This greedy empire of a gym chose to discontinue FitOn, a program that many county employees and first responders used. This was after jacking up membership prices repeatedly over the months and years. FitOn members are taxed for their credits, but lifetime still forced us to buy additional “credits” to have a membership here. Even with a fringe benefit like FitOn, the amount of credits lifetime charged compared to other gyms was astronomical.
But the stunt these crooks pulled at the end was so dirty and unethical; They most recently jacked all of our rates up effective Feb 1 2025, then on March 1st inexplicably cancelled every county and first responder’s membership!!! Slimeballs.
Even before all of this though, they cut all their hours, including daycare, during the pandemic and as of 2025 have maintained those reduced hours. Come April 1st, Lifetime will have lost many members, many of those first responders.

It would be great if people didn't work out barefoot or in their socks and or take up 1 work out machine for their entire workout rotating back to it because their stuff is literally all over it. They make barefoot shoes now. Please don't go straight to the pool or hot tub dripping in sweat after your work out without even rinsing off. Please don't literally go straight from your hot work out take your sneakers off at the hot tub and dip your feet straight in. Please don't blow your nose in the pool. Please don't open the sauna door 500 times because you are on your phone. Please vaccumm the bottom of the pool more and check the chlorine. Please don't walk around the pool or locker room with no shoes. Lastly can you put more hand sanitizer out.

Absolutely horrible customer service. Two years ago we left the club because they could never get their classes together that are “included” with the membership. We would sign up for classes and on more than one occasion the teacher of the class would call and/or text asking to reschedule 10 minutes before class as my family was on the way there. The excuse given was that they lived too far and didn’t want to drive in for the class. So my wife thought okay, we’re all human, and rescheduled. Low and behold, the exact same thing happened the second time! So my wife went in anyways and was told by the front desk that a manager would have to reach out to rectify the problem but nobody ever called. She was then told that corporate would reach out to rectify but again, nobody called.
Fast forward to present - we thought we’d give them a second chance, hoping that management may have improved but unfortunately, our very first day back today we showed up for a scheduled class for our son and was told there was not a class going on despite receiving both email and text confirmations. So like before, the front desk nonchalantly gave us the runaround and said that “a manager will have to call us back”.
We really want to take part, but unfortunately I suppose it’s our mistake for naively thinking things might have improved.

The lifetime is one of the best but the family swimming pool is very very nasty. The water tastes very nasty. I see kids sometimes throwing up. All kind of people are in and out everyday but they never change water. Sometimes poop is in water they close the pool to clean up but still no change water. It’s so gross. They don’t care. They should change water at least one a year but never. I feel we are treated worse than animals

I’ve been a member of this gym for quite some time and have always been impressed by the range of amenities to offer. From the sauna to the spacious pool, it’s truly been a one-stop fitness haven. However, it’s evident that the facility is showing its age. The wear and tear are becoming more apparent and it’s disappointing to see that instead of renovations or maintenance, the prices are steadily increasing.
Furthermore, one of the major selling points for me was the 24/7 access. It’s been a considerable amount of time since the restricted hours were implemented and with no updates on when we can expect a return to the round-the-clock availability, it feels a bit unfair to continue paying more for less access.
I hope the management takes this feedback to heart. It would be wonderful to see the facility get the updates it deserves and for the pricing and hours to reflect the value members are truly receiving

Shane is the best personal trainer I've ever worked with! He pinpoints your needs/weaknesses and truly customizes your regimen. His skills and expertise are top notch! The gym, however, is overpriced. They raised rates 2x in a year and charge extra for so many things: pickle ball, pilates, outdoor pool, child care, group classes, etc. They do have good equipment, but paid classes take up lots of it at key times during the day.

This place has gone downhill significantly, however the price ironically continues to rise.
It costs $196.00 after taxes for 2 adults per month. All of the aging facilities included. The steam room has rust on the wall, the bathrooms smell of mildew, and the gym seems like it’s always under construction.
The outdoor pool is dirty even though they’ve had plenty of time to clean it, considering it’s May 14th. There’s goose feces surrounding the pool which makes for a lovely aesthetic let me tell you.
The best part is the email from the General Manager Kevin, that expresses all of the issues that the MEMBERS are causing.
They blame it on staffing issues from the pandemic but maybe charging 200 dollars a month you might be able to pay a living wage to keep an employee or two.

I use to love lifetime but the quality has gone down so much but they have increased dues. The only good thing about gym is the front staff their super friendly. But majority of the gym space is taken by classes you have to pay for the cardio section machine got pushed into a smaller section where the lighting is so dim and dull they should be able to afford good lighting with increased dues at the least. The cardio section is so depressing and crammed all the spacious cardio area is reserved for group x classes which are paid. The gym membership has clearly increased but the space has decreased. I really miss how spaced the machines use to be and so many machines are even broken now. Not a very luxury gym anymore plus decreased hours basketball court is even taken by pickelball that you have to pay for

Good luck trying to cancel your membership. First they'll tell you that you have to show up in person to cancel - won't cancel your membership over the phone or via internet. THEN you "have to give 30 days notice", but for the calendar month. SO - if you try to cancel today, like I did on February 1, you still pay for the month of February AND the month of March - because 30 day notice means it would arrive March 3, so you have to pay for the rest of that month too. HA! This is the WRONG way to generate revenue Lifetime - pretty embarrassing that you force your staff to refuse to cancel when people want to. So weak. Awesome club, but CANNOT do business with someone who basically steals money once they've got you locked in. Trash organization.

Lifetime Lenexa is the best fitness club I have been to. I have gone to several other corporate clubs along with the smaller gyms. Lifetime Lenexa is consistently clean, maintained, high end equipment and finishes - everything you need in one place. The cafe offers relevant foods and supplements also. I participate in the Signature class, small group training, yoga, and I also do 1:1 personal training. The trainers are engaging, supportive, and encouraging. Their actions show they care about you and their work. The whole club is welcoming and friendly - employees and other members. I highly recommend Lifetime Lenexa.

Overpriced and very pretentious. This "club" has tons of employees roaming around doing nothing. The family locker room always smells like urine, my guess is because there are showers and no toilets in most of the changing rooms. The locker room towels are several different shades of white, stained, and located on shelves that are unreachable for average height people. They have a cafe where they charge $10 for a small sized smoothie among other extremely overpriced items. The spa has plenty of employees but 0 customers most days because the price charged for each service is about 60% over market value for the area. The childcare area smells dirty and is very overloaded and understaffed when any classes are going on upstairs. The childcare hours are very sporadic and it is very hit or miss as to weather they will hold the children's activities they list on their app or decide to blow it off. The workout areas upstairs are full of "trainers" roaming around, not to help anyone, but to try to sell you their very expensive services. The equipment is nice, however you will have all eyes on you when you go to use it, as clusters of "trainers" like to stand at the desk and chat about the guests. The open equipment isn't always usable, because they hold paid classes in the middle of the workout areas and will tell you to move if you try to use any equipment in that area. The equipment seems to be clean, but you the guest are expected to clean each piece of equipment after use with their very generic, barely wet wipes located in dispensers, and strewn throughout the club. It is very difficult to get out of their "non contract" as other reviewers here have stated. Their "policies" change often and you may or may not get what you signed up for and are paying for. This location is about making money and a lot of it. You can expect to pay your monthly fees and plenty more for any other services they try to sell you. IOW it's an "exclusive club" where the customers are considered cash cows and nothing more. My opinion is to save yourself some money and a lot of headache and go down the street to the brand new new Lenexa Rec Center where the "amenities" are the same at a lower price with fewer exclusions.

Love the whole experience. Great staff, clean locker room, the whole array of workout equipment for whatever kind of excersise you're into. The childcare staff are dependable and great with kids. The only improvement I'd recommend is that the child care hours were extended an extra hour, because it's tough to get everything done during a week day by 7pm. I'm still going with five stars though because I fear violent retaliation if I don't. The pool is awesome too!

I LOVE this place and everyone employed there. The facility is spotless and the amenities are top notch. Some of the (mostly younger) members could use better manners, but that’s not a real LT issue. I’m just sayin’.

It’s not a gym it’s the way of life. Variety of classes, equipment, engagements clean, spacious. Cafe has great options.
I could spend whole day at LTF, every day.

Dirty ‘ Family locker room ‘ The gym isn’t what I was expecting in terms of quality for the price. the staff kinda rude, I came up to the front desk to share with them the bad experience in the locker room and the mess, unfortunately they told me ‘The members are allowed to leave a mess in the locker room’ !!!

Just moved back to KC and the gym is just as I remembered it 8+ years ago. Chill, never crowded, has what I need, hardly have to wait for equipment in the late evening hours and everyone is friendly. One of the many gyms I can attend under my Gympass app for less than $60/month, so can’t complain.

It's a great club to belong too. I travel and have a membership that allows me to use clubs in all the cities I travel too. Expensive but like most things, you get what you pay for!

The gym isn’t what I was expecting in terms of quality for the price they are asking. Also the staff isn’t as great. Kinda rude and not conscious of public health

It is a good gym, they started locking the yoga room as soon as the class begins so don't be a minute late or you are out of luck. I'm not a big fan of that.

Warm Indoor pool has toilet paper and used bandages floating under water. Water is salty. So dirty. NOW two months LATER.. the pools and bathrooms keep dirty, towels smell dirty, used tampons in the family showers, trash cans outdoors are closed. The water slide outside is never on. Wear goggles 🥽 and see under the pool. I wonder... Is it so hard to keep the pool clean? I can only wish the service and the neat gym I signed up for years ago was still the same.

Good before when it was 24 hours open. Now they can change their hours when they want. For kids too short pool hours and child center hours. You havе to adjust your schedule depending on them, which has to be vice versa

Recently moved to the area and in search of a gym. I connected with Victor and he gave me a thorough tour of the facility. He answered all my of my questions and was so friendly during the tour. The 'no-contract' membership approach intrigued me but Victor and the personnel are phenomenal. Glad to be a member of Life Time now.

Well worth the cost. With no contract, they recognize they must entice me to keep coming or lose my business. They do an excellent job of that. Multiple, identical work stations, always clean, staff are always inviting. I will recommend no other.

Wanted to tip my hat to Victor Cole, the gentleman who showed me around the gym. Was blown away by how nice the facility was. He did a good job - ultimately it was slightly out of my price range but regardless he represented LifeTime well.

You want a gym with gorgeous views like you see in L.A. celebrity members only gyms. You want machines that will build the perfect muscle so you look great walking into a room but FABULOUS walking out. This is it. With no drama, no attitude, no pretensions. Friendly staff ( like you walked into a LV store in downtown SF!), plenty of machines, no waiting. Get that sweat on! Replace that fat with muscle. Be the best You.
Their personal trainers are amazing too. You will get results. They only look good if you are transformed and look better than them.
