Getting close to a year now since joining this gym, so this is an updated review. Highly recommend this great, clean gym. The staff and other members here are the best. Since joining, have now used a number of other Anytime Fitness locations when traveling, and while none are bad, this is one of the best. For background, started my journey back to fitness in 2024 after unretiring and quickly realizing I was risking injury at work. In short, I needed to get stronger and largely met that initial objective within a couple months at this gym, generally doing a circuit of plate machines every other day. Flexibility greatly improved at same time without much effort, as the machines work opposite muscle groups. I've continued that pattern since and have added some free weight exercises to continue to improve strength and flexibility. Have noticed a number of times now, strains and sprains from manual labor heal much faster now, faster then they did decades ago in my youth! Even had a cracked rib heal in a couple weeks! This gym continues to exceed my expectations in almost every way, hence the five stars. Just a very friendly and very clean environment wherever you are in your fitness journey.

Update: In late July 2025, my work took me away from Northern Kentucky, so I'm using a different Anytime Fitness now. But my review above stands. This is a great gym no matter your fitness level.

Enjoyed training here! Gym is easy to navigate and train. There’s a plethora of equipment for all fitness needs. Different brands of equipment, such as Rogue and Hammer Strength.
The overall facility is well lit and clean. My husband (world ranked powerlifter) and I will definitely be back.

Customer service here is top notch. Never had any delays in getting back to me on my inquiries. The gym itself is spacious with ample amounts of free weights, squat racks, machines, and cables plus a personal training area that can be used for warm-ups & such. Multiple bathrooms, some equipped with showers, and always clean. The members here are great & respectful. This is why this gym is my go-to when visiting NKY.

Love this gym and the guys that work there. They have exactly what you need to stay fit and a good selection of different barbells. If they had a sauna, this would be the best gym! If they had a sauna, I would easily cancel my membership at Esporta in Crescent springs.

Old but fitness newbie here. Started my journey back to fitness only last month after unretiring and realizing I was risking injury at work after not working for 5 years. In short, I need to get stronger. I've found the staff and other members very helpful with advice for using the equipment safely, wiping down things with disinfectant for next user, etc. Right now I'm getting stronger via a circuit of machines before considering joining more formal class instruction regarding improving flexibility, using free weights safely, etc. So far this gym is greatly exceeding my expectations, hence the five stars.

Update: Two months in and this gym continues to greatly exceed my expectations. I continue to get stronger via the circuit of machines and am finding flexibility has also improved as the machines work opposite muscle groups. Just a very friendly and very clean environment wherever you are in your fitness journey. Highly recommend this gym!

By far the cleanest anytime fitness. Nicest people. Staff and members. I moved to Cleveland and they had some up in that location but not one compared to the one in independence Kentucky. I just moved back and the biggest thing is the gym for me. It’s clean, kept up. Bathrooms are always spotless. Amazing staff and trainers. I’m so happy to be back!!

I highly recommend Anytime Fitness in Independence! Every single person that works there knows me by name and is enthusiastic when greeting me. The gym is always clean and repairs are always done quickly. All of the coaches are amazing, but in particular, Tony is the best. He is so incredibly patient and helpful. He is able to modify any exercise to your specific needs. He is also your biggest advocate in your journey (losing weight, building muscle, getting healthy, injury rehab). I am so glad to belong to this gym!

I have been a member here for about 6 months. I love that the gym is always clean when I come in. There is usually staff available if I ever need anything or have a question. They have very high quality equipment, and I've never seen a piece of broken equipment, which can't be said of other gyms I've been to.

This is my favorite gym I’ve ever had the pleasure of being a member of. They have great equipment, great staff, and keep the place well maintained and cleaned.

I’d have picked it up and taken it with me when I moved from Independence if that was an option.

Edited to add: for the negative reviews regarding cancellation, they tell you about the 30 day notice and make sure that you know if you choose a 12 or 18 month contract, or go month-to-month. I signed up in late 2020 and remembered this in May/June of 2023.

Switched over from another gym 2 weeks ago. Anytime Fitness in independence Ky, for a smaller facility, is well equipped, maintained and kept clean. The only complaint, which is not the fault of the facility, is people on their cell phones hogging the equipment instead of working out, sorry just my pet peeve. Otherwise I'm glad I signed up with Anytime Fitness.

Without a doubt going to AF is my favorite part of the day! It took every ounce of courage I had to walk in & join, not ever being a gym member. Jim was so kind & inviting & determined to help me be comfortable, wanting me to enjoy gym life. In the past year my trainers have relentlessly encouraged me to the point I desire to make them proud of what “they” have helped me accomplish, not only physically but mentally.

Zero transparency. At a gym you want the staff to feel like your friend not someone who only cares about getting you in the door, collecting your money, and improving their numbers. One of the managers mentioned a current deal where you would pay $1 for the first month and could cancel whenever. He had also mentioned you could access any of their locations. (Go to school at UK and could not access their Lexington location) After 2 weeks I had tried to cancel the membership (was told I could cancel whenever) but was told I had signed a full year contract and would have to pay off the entire year to release from the contract or continue to pay $20 dollars biweekly. I must say I deserve it after being naive enough to believe that $40 a month for this small gym who’s only competitive advantage is being open 24/7 is a good deal. If you want a gym that is fully transparent, please do not go here

Smaller gym but with a wonderful staff! I was afraid to start at a gym and be criticized or feel out of place. This gym took that worry away for me. All the trainers and managers are wonderful people who are very helpful and caring. Its a smaller gym so seems more down home but has plenty of equipment. Very clean and very calm atmosphere. I'm blessed to have found this gym as a place to start my new journey for myself and my health. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed.

AF Indy was the first gym I ever joined. I had no idea what to expect or if I’d even be consistent. I have a whole new standard of how a gym should be thanks to Rob and all the guys/gals here. It really is a community, a family. You are always greeted on your way in and out. The equipment is high quality, maintained, and clean. Since their recent expansion, it’s only improved. More equipment, more space. Other gyms preach “judgement free”… no, AF Indy is judgement free. Power lifters to senior fit… everywhere in between. All walks of life are welcome here and just encouraged to get healthy. You may pay a little more a month than the globo-gyms, but it is 100% worth it!!!

Staff is incredible. Loved getting to know them when I first signed on and they laid everything out perfectly for me.

Love the fact that there are 2 private showers. Plenty of storage space for your gym bags/belongings (no lockers).

Gym is incredibly clean. Well organized. And all equipment seems to be kept up with. Would be a 5 star if they had more space and added some more machines (pec deck, hack squat, calf raise) and leave out the sled and trx equipment for those that cant be there in the staffed hours.

But all in all this is the most quality Anytime Fitness in NKY by a wide margin.

430am-630am | 10am-11:30am | 2pm are the times when you can pretty much have the place to yourself. (**I have not been there any other times but have heard it can get crowded)
