I've gone to a lot of gyms in my life and none of them have helped me as much as Big Blue has. Melissa has noticed and helped fix a lot of issues with my lifts that other coaches didn't see. If you're open to learning, you can really learn how to move well and get stronger here. I particularly like all of the strongman and other specialty equipment we have, and the Pilates classes.

Big Blue Strength is hands down the best gym in Lexington! The coaches are knowledgeable, encouraging, and truly care about helping you reach your goals. Workouts are challenging but tailored to your level, and the community is so welcoming you actually look forward to going. I’ve gotten stronger, healthier, and more confident since joining—highly recommend!

Cannot recommend BBS enough. Went from not having stepped in a gym in years to lifting 3 times a week. Everyone (staff and other members) has been incredibly welcoming and the environment was never intimidating.

After four years, I can’t say enough good things about this gym and community. It will not be a good fit for everyone, but if it fits you then they’ll help you thrive.

One aspect that has become more important to me is that they don’t only focus on strength. That’s a big part, but also mobility, nutrition, balance come into play. I feel healthier and stronger overall than I have in years and I credit Big Blue Strength for a lot of that

Amazing Gym and Coach!

I've been going to Big Blue Strength since 2019, and it has truly been a game-changer for me. Owner and coach Melissa is simply phenomenal. Her expertise in Olympic Weightlifting is unmatched, and she has helped me master the techniques with patience and precision. Not only does she excel in weightlifting, but her knowledge extends to Pilates and overall strength training. Melissa genuinely cares about her clients, pushing us to improve, get stronger, and even compete if that's our goal. If you're looking for a gym with a knowledgeable coach who will help you achieve your fitness goals, Big Blue Strength is the place to be!

Dropped into Big Blue Strength this weekend and had a great experience from start to finish! Melissa opened her facility to me and Coach Paul greeted me in such a friendly manner and directed me to all the equipment I’d need. Big Blue has plenty of Olympic bars, kilo plates, and a well-kept and organized platform. Thank you both for your hospitality during my stay in Lexington, I’ll surely be back and will recommend your gym to others.

Big Blue Strength has been a wonderful influence for me! Paul Muehlbauer is an exceptional personal trainer, especially for beginners. Paul has helped me learn the basics of many of the movements, and helped me improve mobility and strength, often adapting exercises when necessary to ensure they were motivating and constructive.

After a few months of personal training I moved on to group sessions. Moving to group sessions with Bennet Mott was a breeze. I was slightly apprehensive to suddenly join group sessions full of people more experienced in their fitness journeys, but the community is welcoming to members at all levels and they respect and celebrate the fact that everyone is at a different place, but all working to improve. Bennet pays attention to each participant of the group classes, making sure everyone is appropriately challenged in each movement, despite the need for making alterations to exercises to accommodate injuries, experience, strength, etc.

Additionally, the presence of some adorable dogs, make every visit a joy.

A huge shoutout to Paul, Bennet, Melissa for passionately crushing what they do and fostering a remarkable training environment!

Big Blue Strength is, simply put, amazing. Melissa (owner) is an amazing coach with a wealth of knowledge and experience as a competitive athlete that shapes how she coaches and runs her gym. She treats each client as an athlete with great potential. She cultivates an environment that fosters success and celebration of each individual athlete’s progression. Melissa and her coaching staff care about clients, will work with you to modify exercises to suit your ability, and will always offer thoughtful and expert feedback that will help you meet your goals. I appreciate Melissa’s commitment to quality and improvement over “just lifting heavy” and know I’m a healthier, stronger, and more focused athlete because of my time here. (Bonus gym dogs also make this place amazing)

After a life change took me away from Big Blue, 2 years ago, I have since returned and the atmosphere is as welcoming, encouraging, and supportive. It felt wonderful to walk back in with more confidence and determination as I knew I would have the expert coaches and equipment and programs to help me achieve any goals I set. It takes time, but the Big Blue coaching team is about progress and correcting habits before they start. I grew in my ability and strength so much after a few weeks of being back. The fellow gym members are the best around and accept you where you are without judgment or competition. If you’re looking for custom one on one coaching in fitness, Pilates, weightlifting, and nutrition, this is your place. Looking for a gym to help you maintain, that’s here too. Need a new environment with small group fitness, they have it. You won’t find high quality, highly educated and experienced coaches at most gyms in town, at Big Blue, that’s all they offer!

I couldn't imagine myself going anywhere else! I never would’ve thought strength training would be for me, but I really enjoy it and I’m only improving. The coaches are great and very helpful, they make sure you have correct form and technique. The gym itself has a great atmosphere and I love my B.B.S gym!

My experience at Big Blue Strength has been nothing short of amazing. The staff care about good form and technique and are always kind and supportive. The environment supports people of all ages and efforts and this is important to me in a gym. The equipment is nice and it’s a hard working but fun atmosphere. I love my Big Blue family!

Easily the best part of my day. I keep coming back for the workouts and the people. Every workout is different. Five years later and I’m still making gainz.

Couldn't be happier. And my commitment runs deep-I never even think about other gyms. I'd be like I'm cheating. Stellar staff, great atmosphere and plenty of non-gym related entertainment. Get your gainz here!

I am so glad I found Big Blue Strength! I never would have thought that group strength training or Pilates would have been for me, but through various connections and good luck I stumbled upon this place and put my anxieties aside and started coming. It's been one of the best things I've ever done for myself.

Before coming to Big Blue Strength, I went to the Y for years and worked out plenty , but no matter how faithful I was to cardio machines or even the weight machines, I never seemed to get any better. What has been noticeable from the beginning with the carefully planned workouts here is the progress-- by multiple metrics. I'm so much stronger now that I was when I started a year+ ago, my body composition is significantly better, I'm a couple sizes smaller, and I can do things and exercises that I didn't think I'd ever be able to do. It's so much easier to keep at something when you can see the benefits so clearly.

I want to echo the other reviews in saying how welcoming and warm this place is. It's so much more fun to work out when everyone encourages each other . There is a diversity of people and abilities here and the coaches really can work with anybody from seasoned athlete to coach potato. I'm a larger person and the coaches take me seriously and treat me like everyone else. They can tell when I'm doing an exercise wrong and how to fix or adapt it despite my size. I mention that because I've been in other exercise situations (especially yoga classes) where that hasn't been the case so it's really a big deal.

I wholeheartedly recommend Big Blue Strength. I work out there nearly everyday, not because I feel that I should, but because I enjoy it so much.

After weight loss surgery, I needed to find a gym to build strength, but I also needed a coach that could teach me how to work with bad knees so I could get stronger, but not get injured. Big Blue Strength has been the answer! I worked one-on-one with Melissa Jutras and because of her I can do more physical activity in 3 months than I have ever been able to even before bad knees! I have never been athletic, I have never liked exercise, but I LOVE Big Blue Strength. I do things in Cross Fit class that I would never do on my own and it makes me feel so strong, powerful and confident. Melissa, Cole and Marcus address everyone's specific needs in group fitness classes and never make you feel different than any other person in class no matter what their fitness level. I have learned so much about the connection between nutrition and exercise from Melissa. When you make the choice to do weight loss surgery, it's usually that last ditch effort to get control over your health, but Big Blue Strength is helping me making long lasting changes physically and mentally! It's a great gym and a great group of people that make some pretty grueling exercises lots of fun!

October 2019 - following up a year and half after my original review and I still give this gym the same five stars. Prior to coming to Big Blue Strength I was never a gym person, but the atmosphere of this gym has been the ticket for me to stay committed to exercise. If you are looking for a gym that will invite you in and work with you at your level, this is the place for you! Because of this gym, I have fitness goals now and I lift weights in competition (things I never thought I could do or achieve). Most gyms take your money and could care less about you, but Big Blue Strength is a totally different place - they care about their clients. Most all the people I met 18 months ago are still loyal gym mates to this day - except we are all more fit!

We had to relocate but thought about staying in Lexington solely because of this place and the people who own it. Melissa and Mike are two of the greatest people you will meet. This is not just your generic gym. It’s individualized to each person and the people who come to it are one of a kind.

This place has been great for me. I am 66 and was losing strength and mobility. Melissa has completely turned me around. I'm not back to where I was when I was 30 but I am so much better than I was that my husband even comments on it!

Amazing coaches that challenge and encourage your success - wherever you are in your fitness journey. The CrossFit classes are intense but fun and always a confidence boost. There is also a wide range of ages and fitness levels represented in the classes, which helps to diminish any intimidation coming in as a newbie to weightlifting.

Strong! Best place in town to get strong. Not just in major muscle groups but in secondary and core muscles; thus preventing injuries and getting you past your sticking points. Staff is great and has the best knowledge in town. If you like cross-fit, 5,3,1. or Olympic lifting or anything in between go here.
