This was my go to gym on base but now it’s just an H2F office space that closes at 1500. Should not be closing gyms on post when the ones we already have are so full.

I think it has a pretty good selection of equipment. There's a room specifically for cardio with ellipticals, a stair stepper, different types of treadmills, and two Jacob's ladders. Then there's the weight training room, which has a variety of machines, dumbells, etc. I've seen two rooms for classes, but haven't been in them. There's also a sauna, but I haven't used that, either. My main critiques are that it tends to be humid and that it isn't open on the weekends.

It will always be 5/5 because Army!
Read further for Star Context (might be 3.5 of 5 - but just read)
Note:
I will attempt to give an unbiased - but honest review
Quote:
β€˜β€¦If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. …’ (James 2:8-9, KJV)
Review:
1)
**Disclaimer:
NO ONE is perfect - I get that,
i simply want to encourage healthy change in all realms of human interaction mutually
(I am obviously not always perfect in how i treat others - my goal is to correct myself, and be better every day -
I repent and ask forgiveness for any way i ACTUALLY was wrong.)
2)
I have been in the Military now for years
(not at all as long as other Service Members, but long enough to have a gauge of Military Post Gyms)
3)
Strictly speaking about
β€œESTEP Physical Fitness Center” (down the street from Air Assult Auto)
a) The gym, as a facility, has a lot to offer.
Whether your Any component or status of
The Military, or an authorized Civilian respectively -
there is something good for every type of health minded individual
b) from the level of equipment types ESTEP has (and it is extensive),
to the types of events ESTEP is able to facilitate (it has a full on yoga studio!),
ESTEP definitely wants its Patrons to not feel limited in their health goals!
4)
With regards to Star Rating:
a)
The part where I felt it necessary to NOT give 5 of 5 Star Rating (*at least not currently/yet) is because:
while the equipment and things of that nature Are Enjoyable,
there is something everyone knows about - but isn’t something that in many regards is talked about:
**Military Facility Staff interaction
with Military and Civilian Members (treatment/relations)**
b)
One of the best ways I can explain this (to maybe 90% or higher accuracy),
is to direct anyone to the Google Reviews for β€œByrd Clinic Fort Campbell”
(across from PX Shoppett and Jimmy John’s) to get an idea about what people ARE’NT talking about -
BUT:
since ESTEP isn’t a Hospital, in important ways, SOME things simply don’t apply
c)
**Disclaimer:
c1) most interactions with ESTEP front desk staff will be brief,
c2) i notice the younger staff are nicer than the older staff (and there is this really sweet African American lady who is a little older - but is a sweeter person as well)
c3) and on a sort of β€œsuperficial” level, they will greet most people (all depending - keep reading)
(though there is a level of bias there I’ve noticed towards various people…)
c4) *To The Staff’s overall credit:
Sometimes, even the individuals that don’t normally display the quality of greeting/service you would expect from a Military Gym - STILL sometimes greet everyone and service everyone’s needs adequately.
5)
Professionalism is an Army Term.
Everything under the jurisdiction of The Military is meant to display the unquestionable β€œ7 Army Values and Ethos”.
I enjoy every time i get to interact with an Honest American
(both those who are rational AND irrational,
both those who have β€œesprit de corps” - AND those who are jaded; ALL are American, and i am joyfully contracted for life to defend the freedom of the same!)
6)
Some ideas for positive growth at
ESTEP Physical Fitness Center:
a) **NO MATTER WHO WALKS IN YOUR FACILITY:
Ya’ll should have a standard (and positive) ESTEP Greeting
- Soldiers and Their Families
(with all the difficulties they face)
are hoping someone on their days path will encourage them
[imagine how one kind morning greeting can positively effect someone!!]
- this will foster a high likelihood of good attitude in anyone who might enter ESTEP
b) You can give out pamphlets for how to foster good mental health and have a positive and meaningful day
(*Soldiers ESPECIALLY are dealing with that on levels that ESTEP Staff,
is likely NOT Aware of - ahem! Hint - Hint…)
7)
God Bless All ESTEP Staff
(both mature and immature in their professionalismπŸ™‚)
- Jesus is the Lord

Small gym but a lot of equipment. Never feels like you're standing around waiting for a spot to open up.
Spin Room, Yoga Room with a small play area for kids. Sauna/steam room too.
One of the best gyms on Campbell hands down.

Great place... great staff...

Do be aware that the Estep Wellness Center closes daily (M-F) at 19:00 hrs. It does NOT close at 21:00 hrs as the hours indicate on the big sign outside the facility nor as the website for the Estep indicates. It isn't a problem as long as you plan your workout accordingly... You can do it all there, just be aware it closes earlier than advertised. Keep that heart rate up and the weights moving!

More designed for crossfit however during these corona times it's the only gym for non active duty. Wish it had more machines.

Source: Google

β˜… 4

To those who complain of this "non- active duty only gym" is because the other gyms on posts are "active duty only". When I got to Fort campbell I was so excited to come on post to work out but was quickly told no spouses or retired guest. Luckily, Estep was available for spouses, retired and DOD employees. I'm sure the other gyms have gone back to allow spouses (maybe) haven't had the opportunity to go since all the school closures in Clarksville.

Reason I gave it 4 stars is because the gym needs leg press machines, thats the only draw back. They have a huge ninja warrior obstacle course in the middle of the gym taking up space. (Not being used) But this gym is better than no gym, so I can't complain too much.

Gym is always clean and low crowds, I like it a lot. The employees are nice. I almost didn't want to leave a review because I don't want it to get packed, but I gotta defend the non active duty aspect, every gym on post was literally active duty only from the start of covid.

I went to Estep for years. I recently came back for a short while and it's definitely changed for the worse as others have said.

The bathrooms are humid but the workout areas are only hot when it's supposed to be cold in winter so the heat is on, and in Tennessee fashion the temperature swings warmer than expected so they open the doors. Honestly, it's usually pretty decent. The only people complaining about temperature are those that don't actually train and break a sweat. They want a comfortable place to take up space and lolligag through their "workout."

The giant jungle gym in the middle is dumb. Soldiers are stupid and are gonna find a way to get hurt on it. The staff said it's usually only used during PT hours anyway. That's sad because there's other training they can be doing. It my time in country, I never went up ascending or descending monkey bars.

This place used to have a membership or pay for the day fee. People liked paying for the exclusivity so they can get after it. The best part was being around people who ACTUALLY train. Now, all the rift-raft that take up machines and weights come in and occupy space while running their face pump. Fat squads of Soldiers come in and take up space, rather than workout like they should be doing. These 600-9 offenders need to go back to Frat or whatever BCT gym they came from.

Gertsch gym was my go to years ago because they were the meat head gym where you could sling some iron around like minded people. Then I discovered Estep and never looked back. Sad that others can't enjoy the old experience.

On the bright side, there is still plenty of equipment to do what you need to do. Unless one of the squads of wide body support Soldiers comes in, then you're stuck waiting....

This place has very outdated machines and all the weight bars are rusty and none of the plates match. There is a hig jungle gym for people who think they are American ninjas but really aren't. It boasts of a sauna and steam room but they're never open... that's ok tho because the main weigt but room is hot enough to be a sauna and steam room together! The bathrooms are more humid than the Congo model summer! Happy sweating. The only people that are giving this place a 5 star rating are mold spores and mildew.......

This went from the best gym on post to the worst. We didn’t mind paying the monthly fee. It’s just too small to be a free gym, plus it’s closed on the weekends now. There was a reason people paid to go there.

It once was one of the best gyms on post, I had no issue paying to use it. They put the adult jungle gym in it (would have made a better fit in Frat gym), removed some equipment and changed the hours. Your still able to get a work out there but its a great example of why you don't fix things that are not broken. Its sad that now it's free I only go as a last resort. Its as if they gave Estep gym a unneeded lobotomy the building is still there but what made it great has been taken. RIP EWC.
