I have been coming here for over 10 years now. All I can say is Genesis/Blairwood is a great health club. The facilities are always nice and well-kept, the sauna and steam room is great. The staff are always super friendly. Chris, Cindy, Mary Joe, and Caitlyn, just to name a few. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone looking for a place to workout, swim, or play tennis!

This club is not a nice facility. It’s dirty. Classes cancel all the time when instructors don’t show up. Do yourself a favor and find a different club.

UPDATE: (I am having to repost this because Genesis is shady and removed my review). Not the best experience. First impression was terrible! Assistant manager Kris is very rude and doesn’t have any customer service skills whatsoever. Me, my husband, and friends wanted to take a tour and we were trying to find the entrance. We walked into the pool side area which is in the very front where we thought we could get to the fitness center and go to the front desk. As soon as we walked in Kris, says in a rude tone “We ask that you check in before you enter the pool area”. We asked “what is the way to get into the building where the front desk is”? He said “go in the front door”. Even though the pool is in the front of the facility and we weren’t aware that the main entrance is on the side in the side parking lot. As we walk to the entrance and get to the front desk he had made his way to the desk in that span of time. I don’t understand why an assistant manager would treat possible clients with such disrespect. The proper thing he could’ve done was showed us the way to get in through the pool side since we were both going to the front desk and let us know usually to get in is through the main building in the side parking lot if you were to become a member. When we were in the middle of our tour we crossed paths again with the manager and he proceeds to say “we meet again”. This is very uncalled for and VERY DISRESPECTFUL.

I have never been to genesis and based on reviews and their website I thought this was going to be a fantastic health club based on pricing and amenities. Very wrong! In lots of distress and is in need of major renovation. Very early 90’s theme. Lots of damaged walls, ceiling panels missing, stinky locker rooms. Fitness area is very tight and cramped. Not worth $80+ and definitely not worth a family membership that is $100+. The tour guide was very helpful and informative though! She told us that there is upcoming renovations in October and should be completed by next pool season. After this project is completed they will update the Taylorsville rd location, which is also in major need of renovation.

I joined last fall for a play tennis fast class and had such a great time learning the game! This summer, added the family on, and we have all enjoyed the pools. The staff here is always friendly and welcoming - we especially love Mary Jo at the front desk, Kris is always availiable to answer questions or help with anything we need. I even got a sneak peek at the renovation designs from Mike recently, SO excited for whats coming!
Great experience all around.

Kris, the assistant manager, is two-faced and rude. Pool check-in associates are unsure of where to send guests for help. The facility is in distress, and hopefully, the update will improve upon that. The red-haired lady that was showing us the facility was very helpful and educated about the facility.

I've been a member for years. Blairwood doesn't allow families to order pizza to the pool, but forces you to buy it from their grill. I already pay large dues . . . Why can't I order a pizza to the pool? Will not be renewing my membership unless this changes.

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing in regard to the Taylorsville Road location, where I have been a dedicated member for the past seven years—beginning when it was still LA Fitness, later rebranded to Esporta, and now part of Genesis. Unfortunately, I have observed a consistent decline in the condition, upkeep, and overall quality of this facility over that time.

From the outset, members were assured that new equipment and improvements were forthcoming. Not only have those promises gone unfulfilled, but the facility now has less equipment than when I originally joined. The most recent commitment—a $2.5 million investment—appears to be allocated elsewhere, likely to the Blairwood location. Meanwhile, this facility has been without functioning air conditioning for several weeks, an unacceptable situation in a fitness environment.

It is also disappointing that the building still bears the “Esporta” signage, with no visible investment made to reflect the Genesis rebranding. The image promoting otherwise has clearly been edited, which only adds to the sense of misrepresentation.

The cardio equipment is in particularly poor condition. Treadmills, stair steppers, bikes, and ellipticals remain marked “scheduled for service” for weeks or even months. The few operational machines often have significant issues—non-functioning incline features, inaccurate speed calibrations, worn belts, or sudden power failures mid-use.

The weight training area is no better. Several Olympic bars are bent, dumbbells are either missing or damaged with deteriorating rubber coatings, and many of the cable machines have frayed cables or faulty pulleys. These are not minor oversights; they reflect a serious lapse in maintenance and investment.

Additionally, the cleanliness of the facility has noticeably declined. Basic standards of hygiene and upkeep are no longer being met, which is especially concerning in a shared fitness environment.

For the cost of membership, it is becoming increasingly difficult to justify remaining at this location when other gyms offer superior facilities, equipment, and overall value.

I do want to acknowledge that the staff have always remained courteous and professional, which I sincerely appreciate. However, their efforts cannot compensate for the lack of corporate support, maintenance, and reinvestment in this facility.

I hope this feedback is taken seriously and prompts swift and meaningful improvements to the Taylorsville Road location.

Sincerely,
A 20+Year Veteran to the gym scene.

Dear Genesis Management,

This message is in response to your reply to my recent review.

Your response unfortunately reflects a broader issue with how the facility is being managed. Rather than offering any meaningful solution, it deflected responsibility. Per your suggestion, I did speak with onsite staff regarding the concerns I raised. I was informed that five HVAC units on the roof are currently inoperable and all require repair. However, no one at the local level has the authority to allocate funding for these critical repairs—this decision rests solely with corporate.

Additionally, I was informed last week that trash collection services were canceled by Genesis. As a result, staff have reportedly been storing accumulated trash in a “back room.” I question whether Louisville Metro Inspections, Permits, and Licensing—or the Louisville Health Department—have been made aware of these potentially serious health and safety violations.

Genesis appears to have no difficulty collecting membership dues from its patrons each month, yet fails to provide the basic services those dues are meant to cover. It is time for corporate leadership to demonstrate the same accountability it expects from its members and take immediate action to address these concerns.

Blairwood is truly a special place. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming—especially the front desk team. Kaylyn went above and beyond to help me today, and her kindness made the club feel more like a resort than a gym. Everyone on staff plays a part in creating a sense of community, and it’s something you feel the moment you walk in. Blairwood has genuinely changed my life in so many positive ways, and I couldn’t be more grateful to be a part of it.

To piggyback off of another reviewer, Genesis makes it extremely hard to do business with them. If you need to cancel your membership for any reason they require you to schedule an appointment with them to do so and there are only a few employees that can perform that process evidently.

Genesis is very hard to do business with. We have tried to resolve a credit issue with them for weeks. The email address they want us to correspond with keeps getting bounced back. We enjoy your tennis clinics and coaches but we are very close to ceasing everything because YOU make paying YOU extremely hard!

Do not join for lap swimming 🚫 🚫🚫
Once school starts the pool is very unaccessible for regular members due to swim practice and lessons taking up the majority of the swim space.

I was not informed before signing up that swim space would be such a challenge; swimming is my sole reason for joining. I would have never joined if I knew I pool access was so restricted 👎👎👎

This club has went downhill dramatically over the last two years. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve driven there to swim laps and there are no lanes open.
Don’t get your hopes up for the steam room because there is a good chance it is broken.
Food at the pool used to have great options and most of our favorites were removed from the menu.
Wish it was still Blairwood, not Genesis….

I take my 6 year old here for tennis and she loves it!. The only complaint is I have a hard time getting a hold of them and I haven’t been able to reenroll my daughter because it won’t allow me to access my account since the merger /change to genesis. I reached out about this issue and have not heard anything . I would really like to get my daughter reenrolled.

I have been at Blairwood for 5 years now and this place has gone downhill. I take swimming classes here and coach julia is amazing! But sometimes when I swim here with my membership with my cousins, some staff have favoritism towards people. One lifeguard blowed a whistle at me and my cousins for doing something, and other people did the same thing, and the lady saw them, and she didn’t blow a whistle at them.

Love the pool and the gym. My only complaint is that to bring a guest it’s $25 and I have two children that wanted to bring friends and I think $50 for three or four hours at the pool is ridiculous. I wish they would lower the guest Fee to about $10 or $15. Plus when we’re already buying food there we’re spending more money and giving them more money.

A very nice health club with substantial amenities. 5 stars for the variety of amenities. The cost is extremely high, especially if you don't use the pool or gym equipment. ~$120 a month for 2 adults + 1 junior. No tennis-only membership and you have to pay for tennis courts ($45+) and classes (i.e. fast feed another $22+) on top of the membership fee. Non-members pay an extraordinary rate on top of the class fee (+$15) causing us to cancel and no longer attend. It's a great place, simply too expensive overall. We miss playing Saturday AM fast feed, but couldn't justify the cost. They never added towels back now 4 years after the pandemic, but the manager said they were planning to in the near future. Seems like a cost issue vs. a COVID issue at this point.

Listen, we’ve been members for 4 years, it’s really ran down now. The pools are always dirty. We couldn’t use one side today because there was so much trash.. 3 life guards standing around when I asked the front desk if they could clean the trash out she rolled her eyes, I actually asked her 3 times to do it, after waiting I finally did it, do I get paid now? I’m starting to understand why so many members from last year are not members anymore. The “lady or girl at the desk, do not roll your eyes at members when they ask you to do your job.

Dear Genesis Health Clubs Team,

I would like to express my deep disappointment with the recent experience I had at your club. At the beginning, we received friendly treatment and were offered a free pass that allowed us to see their facilities. However, when we returned to enjoy that pass and evaluate whether we wanted a membership, the staff's attitude changed dramatically. We were abruptly informed that we were no longer entitled to the free pass, which left us with a very negative feeling.

We understand that misunderstandings may arise, but the way we were treated on this occasion was unacceptable. The lack of consistency in information and the dismissive treatment by their staff not only made us feel uncomfortable, but also led us to seriously question the quality of the service they offer.

It is essential that a club of Genesis Health Clubs' status maintain a consistent level of care and professionalism, treating all clients with the same respect and consideration. I urge you to reflect on this situation and take the necessary steps to ensure that all visitors are treated fairly and respectfully at all times.
sincerely
leiram

No se los recomiendo, the worst place to become a member

Start of summer has been very frustrating. Baby pool has been closed off two days now because no one seems to know how to correct chemicals (this was never an issue in past years). Upkeep is overall pretty poor. Stair railing extremely dangerous, wouldn’t advise using them to enter the pool. Cleaning equipment is always left laying around including vacuums, cords, brush heads etc. Menu changes every year and odds are the do not have in stock what your going to order. You would think preparation to opening for the summer would have been taken more seriously with having the most pools out of any club. I have never seen the pools here more disgusting. I really hope they can turn things around, because as of now it has not been worth the time and money being a member.

This used to be a nice place but has gone downhill in recent years. They took the diving board out of the smaller pool for some reason and there are lots of repairs that need to be done around the pools and in the locker rooms. They also need to get better music to play around the pool. Get rid of the radio stations!! Get Sirius or something so we don't have to hear commercials. And play a variety that appeals to various generations. Not just Top 40 stuff that barely appeals to anyone in the age range that are paying for memberships here. And the food is not good at all anymore. What happened?? I've been a member here for 5 years and it saddens me to see the changes.
Update: called this morning to ask about summer pool hours. There is nothing on the website as the website states that the pool is only open for lap swim. So I called to verify that it will be open for summer swim starting tomorrow. The woman that answered the phone was sarcastic and nasty about it. I'm so sick of the attitudes. Maybe update your website then if you can't handle a simple phone call? We will definitely be looking elsewhere for a new gym and swim membership.

OMG! Blairwood was great; Genesis has put the club on a downward spiral. Too many items break and go unrepaired: lights, carpeting, 50M pool [heaters broken so too cold to swim; filters not working, etc.]. Management seems lackadaisical and without direction or sense of urgency. What a shame; considering resigning since the memory of what it was is now tarnished.

I have been a longstanding member of this establishment for two decades. Unfortunately, under the new ownership, there has been a notable decline in the facility's standards. Several amenities, including the sauna, are non-operational, and there is a consistent shortage of clean towels. Moreover, the overall quality of equipment provided has deteriorated.

Furthermore, there is a concerning lack of responsiveness from management when issues are raised, which hampers effective resolution of concerns. Regrettably, based on these experiences, I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment to others.

I got the summer membership to take my child to the outside pool. The pool opens at 11 am just when UV radiation starts to get unhealthy. It would be more family friendly if it opened at 10 am so the children enjoy before the UV radiation is too high for the skin. In addition, the outside pool closed just on August 7 without previous notice. Then we got the membership and could not use it the days we planned. Now that Blairwood is part of Genesis Health Clubs, the membership is not worth for us. Not forget to say that at least one of the receptionists is quite rude, another is in the impatient unkind side. At least they have two young girls that are as kind and helpful as they can be.

Blairwood, tennis, swim and fitness center are in a beautiful facility and feels very welcoming and warm. They have an inside and an outside pool which has a bubble over it in the winter, and it is very warm and humid. I was mainly in the outdoor pool with the bubble for a swim meet that one of my grandsons participated in. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of room for movement inside the bubble, and I felt like a sardine in a can. The pool is very nice and the meet was very well handled. However, crowd control was a disaster.

My five stars was based on the facilities Heather not been a swim meet, like I said, their facilities were beautiful, well-kept, and it felt very inviting.

The worst swim place ever. First issue is that the receptionist is the rudest person on earth. They will not fix showers ( for weeks, it has been giving either extremely hot or extremely cold water) near the pool and would not let kids shower in the gym showers that require a membership. After a cold swim, my kid needs a warm shower and for the premium fees we pay here, a simple warm shower is not an option. The rude receptionist loves to kick people out who don’t have membership. It’s a shame that Louisville doesn’t have better swim options.they have great coaches. I used to recommend this place to everyone, but not anymore.

Blairwood has all the amenities a family could ask for - the facility has three large pools (indoor and outdoor, one is a full-siezed Olympic pool), recently renovated locker rooms/spa, plenty of indoor/outdoor tennis courts, multiple spacious fitness areas as well as open areas for members can relax and watch television or catch up on work. The summers at Blairwood are a site to see, with a fun, festive and orderly pool deck. Not to mention the property has more than enough parking, easy access and generous hours. Highly recommended club to join!

Without a doubt the best all encompassing club in the city for working out, swimming and tennis. Great facilities, equipment and friendly staff. It’s a huge value add to have access to two clubs (Blairwood and Louisville Tennis Club) for no added cost.

I start working out at this gym couple months ago and I already very disappointed about the yoga instructors. They don’t show up and do not let the staff know. If so, none of staff post anything about the cancellation on website. Last Sunday 5 or 6 people and I went to the class but the instructor did not show up and nobody ( staff) know if someone would teach yoga. It’s SECOND TIME IN TWO WEEKS.
It is very unprofessional and lack of courtesy!!!

I enjoy the LIFT program with Cynthia! She is a phenomenal mentor and teacher. Ashley also kills it at Cardio Barre. Whew! The facility offers tennis, workout classes, an indoor and outdoor pool. So, oodles of options!

However, I find it to be uncomfortable that Fox News is on the TV in the cardio room and elsewhere, at all times. A few other members have talked to me about this as well. I feel that politics are the last thing I wish to see when working out to let go and forget what is going on in the outside world. Also, it hints that the establishment is pro Republican. Another issue I have is the cleaning supplies used. I understand that a lot of folks use the facilities. But, the high fumes are both nauseating and toxic for us to smell. Especially, while our pores are open and energy levels when working out. Might I offer an option to use healthier products, being that it is a health establishment. It would be helpful. Sure, cost a few extra bucks. But, with the membership fees they receive, I'm sure they can afford healthier products!

I went there once as a guest with a friend. The pool was nice, but I saw lifeguards on phones. I had to pull a kid up who was going vertical. Nobody saw and people kept on not caring. I also got bloody chicken out of an order of chicken tenders. No clue on how that happens. So, I left 20 minutes after getting there. And it looked like some members there were looking at me, and saying to the staff that I shouldn’t be there for some reason. But just what my friend told me they were saying.

Not very happy with this country club. From the moment I walked in we were greeted with rude people at the front desk. I've been going here for a year and nothing has changed. Last night (which prompted me to write my review) the lady at the front desk was showing someone around in the weight area. I was carrying heavy weights and she just walked right in front of me, no excuse me or anything. I'm just blown away with how the workers here treat me like I'm an inconvenience. This place is old, dated, and they mainly cater to the men. Only thing good I have to say about this facility is they have excellent child care. Once I find another gym I won't be working out there anymore.
