Lexington's premier, award-winning Pilates studio located in the heart of Chevy Chase offering Pilates Reformer, barre and mat classes.

We are passionate about teaching all ages—teens to seniors, with a focus on fitness and conditioning the body. We work with injuries and chronic pain, embracing all challenges to assist each clients’s individual goals! Our teachers at Mind Over Body have 30+ years of teaching experience, with a focus on precise alignment, core conditioning, and a progression of each student's body.

Andreina Gonzalez is absolutely amazing! I attended my first Pilates class a few months ago that Andreina taught and attend her 5:30 am classes every Tuesday and Thursday.

Her style is accommodating, calm, supportive and incredibly informative! Other trainers I’ve experienced over time are more “in your face”, boot camp style training, which does not work for me.

I’m very driven and motivated and her style of teaching inspires and motivates me!

I can already see improvements in my mobility and flexibility!

The instructors in that studio are so well educated on the anatomy and Pilates that they are well equipped to zero in on each client’s needs. I have been going twice a week for several months and I can tell a marked improvement in my posture, strength and stamina. Thank you Mind Over Body staff!!

I am an absolute Pilates newbie - like, never have taken a class, non-athletically inclined newbie. I took a beginner class with Kiri and she was nothing short of outstanding. She didn’t make me feel bad or dumb when I needed some extra guidance and made me feel right at home. The studio is clean, bright, and relaxing too - it was incredibly relaxing and really helped me maintain my focus during the class. If I lived in Lexington, I would have signed up then and there for a monthly membership. Go! Especially if you’re inexperienced and feel some anxiety trying something new!

After some conversations about mobility and flexibility a friend recommended I go see Melissa at Mind Over Body. Being brand new to Pilates I had no idea what to expect. Melissa has helped over the last two years improve range of motion, strength and overall mobility. She takes a personalized approach to her teaching and seems to really understand how the benefits of pilates can translate into sports like golf.

This studio has been a godsend! When I first came to Mind over Body studio (in July), I was experiencing all sorts of pain – for a variety of reasons -- throughout my posterior chain region. I’m talking recurring (debilitating) cramps and spasms in calf muscles and hamstrings, pain and stiffness in my glutes and pelvic rim, and tingling sensations in my spine. After attempts of relief through several sessions of physical therapy – to no avail – a friend suggested I give pilates a try. After two months of pilates and individual sessions with Melissa and the studio staff, I have regained about ninety percent of the mobility I had lost because of the issues related to the pain I was enduring beforehand. I strongly recommend this studio and would advise anyone experiencing the same symptoms as I did to book several individual sessions with Melissa before proceeding to group work in a class setting. I say this because this is where you will learn about the reasons why our bodies experience pain and stiffness as we age and how to undo the causes of age-related (or injury related) pain. Individual sessions are also where you will learn exercises and stretches vital to releasing muscle stiffness that, left unchecked, can cause peripherally related outcomes – such as joint and spine misalignment and further pain. Regardless of the reasons for your pain and loss of mobility, Melissa and the Mind Over Body Studio’s staff will place you on the road to recovery. I highly recommend (10 out of 10 – wish I could assign 10, instead of five stars). Give them a try; you have nothing to lose and a life without pain, to gain.

I never knew my body needed to be "organized" until experiencing the magic of Pilates! I originally attended a yoga class at Mind Over Body. I was curious about Pilates and am so glad I gave it a try. After one class I was hooked! What I love and appreciate most is all the instructors are so kind and always meet their customers where they are. The studio has 6 reformers, which means classes are small and there is ample one-on-one instruction, help, encouragement, and education. The community is very warm, dog-friendly, and light. So glad I found this place and highly recommend anyone giving it a try if you're curious about the benefits of Pilates!

I am a second year dental student and live a stressful day to day, but attending weekly classes at Mind Over Body has not only changed my body’s physical appearance, but has changed by posture and how my body feels. 10/10 experience here! Had 4 friends visiting from out of town and after half of us accidentally booked the wrong time, Melissa graciously offered to arrange a private class for all 5 of us for no extra charge even though it was our mistake with the booking. Had a private group class the next morning, and we all had the best experience in what was half of our groups first reformer Pilates class. The ambiance, communication & instruction were all fabulous. Will definitely be back!

Mind Over Body and Melissa have transformed my body! As a former competitive horseback rider I have suffered with shooting pains in my hip/legs, low back strain, and shoulder degeneration. Melissa is SO knowledgeable and actually educates you about your own body. She has helped me to release and rebuild stronger.
Everyone I have interacted with has been so open-minded, kind, intelligent, and most importantly, non-judgmental. There is truly something for everyone, especially with the new BEAUTIFUL yoga studio upstairs. It is a wonderful community to be a part of!

I had been suffering with back and leg pain caused by severe degenerative disc damage for several months. The radiating pain down my leg was so painful I could barely walk from my car to work. I had undergone steroid shots, PT, Yoga therapy, and medication without a moment of relief. I went from working out 3-4 times a week to barely not at all. I had never tried Pilates, but it was suggested by my doctor. Before considering surgery with no guarantee of success, as a last resort, I walked into Mind over Body.

I was greeted by Katheen and was immediately made to feel welcome and realized her true desire to help. I then met Melissa who also shared her belief in the power of Pilates in helping the body with pain. These two beautiful, committed, and knowledgeable women convinced me to give Pilates a try and I am so glad I did.

After so many weeks of sleeplessness I finally got a restorative night’s sleep following the first class. My pain has subsided, and I am beginning to feel my agility being restored. I still have a way to go and feel that I will always need to make Pilates a part of my exercise plan, but I am so grateful for the relief I feel. The classes are wonderful and Kathleen, my primary teacher, is so thorough and learned about the program.

Thank you, Melissa, and Kathleen, for putting me on the path to recovery. To anyone reading this, give Mind over Body a try, you will not be disappointed!!

What a perfect way to celebrate my 8 year old and her best friend’s birthday! They took care of everything- from the video invitations to the adorable tutu themed cupcakes! All we had to do was show up ready to watch the girls have what they agree was the best birthday party ever! My mom has starting seeing Melissa for Pilates years ago and absolutely loved it and loved Melissa! Something she truly looked forward to weekly. She now has dementia and has been seeing Laura to practice yoga weekly for a couple years now at least. Laura is awesome!!! My mom loves to be able to see her every week and it's an outing she definitely enjoys. We can tell when she gets home that she's in a better mood and so happy! Yoga is a journey, and I am delighted that I chose the ladies of Mind Over Body Studio to help guide me on the journey. I have been attending classes here for over a year and have had the best experience. It is a judgement free zone. We listen to our bodies and give thanks and forgive ourselves when we fail (in trying advanced poses, for example). Additionally, aerial yoga is such a unique, liberating, and rewarding experience, I suggest you try it at least once! As much as I am growing in my own practice, Laura and Melissa are actively engaging in opportunities to grow and strengthen their own practice (and their small business) which is reassuring as it is easy to become stagnant. They are investing in their future, which could be your future physical health and mindfulness! Come check them out. :)

I showed up at the posted time for four classes (purchased via a groupon/living social). Only two of the four ran at the appointed time. I gave the first "wrong tie because we're updating our web site" a pass, but for today I confirmed by text and the teacher was a no show. The two classes the ran at the appointed time actually started late because the teacher arrived after the start time. Yoga is supposed to be relaxing for me, not frustrating! They are refunding my $ but I'm still out the price of frustration!

Laura Calmes is an amazing yoga therapist, and Melissa Calmes is a fantastic pilates instructor. I visited many studios trying to find a place that felt right, and I immediately felt at home here. The Calmes sisters have created a very positive, accepting and tranquil environment, and both are incredibly passionate about their respective fields. They don't just build you up physically. They take great pride in taking a holistic approach to their practice, and truly serving the individual needs of their clients. When I leave the studio after class, I not only feel I've gotten a great workout, I also feel more peaceful, cared for, supported and ready to take on whatever the day brings.
