I joined Pilates Barre Lex a few months ago after wanting to incorporate more strength training into my routine and I’m so glad I did! I instantly fell in love with this local, woman-owned studio and their mission of uplifting women. From day one, I felt supported, encouraged, and completely welcomed, even as someone with zero reformer experience!
The instructors make every class feel approachable yet challenging in the best way. Reformer Pilates has become my favorite full-body workout! It’s helped me build strength, recover from an elbow injury, and completely transform how I feel about exercise. I always leave class feeling stronger, more confident, and just genuinely happy.

As someone who’s been practicing Pilates for over 10 years and recently moved to Lexington, I was excited to try PBL after hearing great things. After two months as a member, I’ve decided not to renew. The experience simply doesn’t justify the cost; there are nearby studios that offer more variety, better instruction, and greater value.
The class schedule is misleading. The owner, Hannah, often lists classes under her name that never open for sign-ups, making it seem like there are far more options than there really are. I’ve driven by during these supposed class times and the studio was completely empty. Looking at the schedule ahead, there are more classes closed than open. The available classes, taught by other instructors, tend to have long waitlists, sometimes five or more people, which makes it difficult to attend regularly.
If an instructor cannot make a class, Hannah will not find a replacement or teach the class herself. Instead there won’t be a class or she will shut the studio down for “cleaning,” when there are no classes on Sundays and cleanings could be done then.
There is no variation in classes, no different levels, or very few different types of classes. While some instructors do their best to accommodate different skill levels, there aren’t any structured options for progression. Occasionally, a different class appears on the schedule, only to be canceled or changed last minute. If you do go, Maggie and Monika are the only instructors I’d recommend, they’re experienced and actually teach a strong class (when you can get in).
While most instructors and members are kind, the small class sizes (7 reformers, 6 barre spots) make it feel cliquey. If you’re not part of the regular friend groups that dominate certain classes, it can feel unwelcoming.
It's annoying how much the studio pushes merch, private sessions, and membership upgrades when there aren’t even enough available classes for current members. It feels more like a money grab than a genuine fitness community. I am not sure if others feel this way, as I don't talk often talk to other members, but have overheard similar frustrations.

I started my pilates journey about 3 months ago. Before stepping into Pilates Barre Lex I had never tried pilates let alone been on a reformer. As soon as I walked into the studio I was greeted by the kindest instructor who didn't hesitate to make feel welcomed. I have never enjoyed working out before trying pilates. I had always felt like exercise was a chore. I also never felt fully comfortable when taking group classes. But when I started pilates, I realized that I had found a place that made me feel safe and more importantly made my body feel good. When I started at PBL, I immediately felt like I was surrounded by other people who were there to make their bodies feel good and it created a community atmosphere I had never felt before in a workout studio. I have never been more connected with my body than I am now after just a few months of pilates. Being a college student it gives me a nice break from the stress of school and allows me to reconnect with myself. PBL has been the best choice I have made for my body and every class I take makes me feel grateful for the opportunity to be apart of such a great pilates studio.

I am so happy I took the leap to start at PBL after months of not being happy with really any workout style I tried. I love the way after every class I feel better than when I walked in. The community that has been built is something magical. Being newer, I never feel like an outsider in any class - the instructors, the other clients are all so wonderful and welcoming. I'm loving Pilates Barre Lex. From the very beginning, I felt welcomed and supported by both the instructors and other members. The instructors are so well-trained, encouraging, and attentive—they push you while making sure you feel comfortable. I was a little nervous to start back to Pilates because I've had problems with my back, but the instructors have been great—including modifications so I can get a great workout and protect my back. The other members in the classes make it fun as well, and I always leave feeling better than when I came in. I'm grateful for the variety to my exercise routine, as well as the social aspect. The studio itself is both clean and calm, just a peaceful place to exercise. I recommend PBL to anyone looking to get back into or start Pilates in a welcoming studio!

I can’t say enough good things about this Pilates studio! From the moment I walked in, I felt completely comfortable and welcomed. The atmosphere is warm, calming, and inviting lit honestly feels like a little sanctuary in my week.

I truly love how inclusive this space is. I am never afraid to show up how I am that day because no matter what, this space just lifts and lightens. Don't be afraid to start your pilates journey!! Pilates Barre Lex makes it so easy. I found PBL while in Lexington for a work contract and it was my first introduction to pilates. I am someone who has tried every workout in the book but nothing ever sticks. I started with two 1:1 sessions then transitioned into group classes. Classes at PBL quickly became my favorite part of the week! PBL isn't just a studio, it's a community! Every single instructor ensures that you feel comfortable and empowered during classes. Modifications and amplifications are offered so that you can partake in movements that feel right for your body and leave class feeling successful, confident, and stronger. I have yet to find another studio since leaving the Lexington area that even comes close to the amazing experience at Pilates Barre Lex. Hannah, the entire PBL staff, and the community they've built make pilates a joyful, uplifting experience and I encourage anyone thinking about it to sign up for a class today!!

Pilates Barre Lex has been my best Pilates experience by far! The atmosphere and vibes are welcoming. Setting up my profile and classes on were also very easy and convenient. Everything is at your own pace, and all the equipment is very well taken care of. They do offer challenges and variations for everyone! I feel blessed to have discovered Pilates Barre Lex- I’ve tried just about every gym & fitness studio in Lexington & hated them all. I never thought I fit the Pilates mold, but I finally found the place that feels like home. From day 1, the instructors & amazing community of women welcomed me in like family. Pilates Barre Lex and Hannah have been nothing short of amazing throughout my Pilates growth and journey. I was intimidated to try Pilates but when I met Hannah and took my first private, I soon realized I had worked up my nerves for no reason. Hannah takes the time to build rapport, know your body, and make sure you are comfortable every step of the way. What sets this studio apart is the community and atmosphere Hannah and her team have built. Where do I start?! PBL is the most genuine caring Pilates boutique ever. Since it is a boutique style the teachers are so supportive, helpful, and welcoming every single class. I started PBL over a year ago and simply cannot express the gratitude I feel towards the community there. It has been a space for me to just clear my head as a student, and the instructors truly make you feel welcomed at all times. I especially love how challenging the instructors make the classes. I can never predict what move I’ll do in a class because there is ALWAYS something new to do on the reformer - you’ll truly never be bored. Pilates Barre Lex has changed my life for the better in so many ways. I’d wanted to try Pilates for years but was intimidated by diving in blind. A search for a small studio to try private instruction led me to PBL. I loved their inclusive ethos I saw online and the moment I walked in I knew it wasn’t just marketing. It’s abundantly clear Hannah has put thought and love into every little detail to create her vision. Over two private sessions, Hannah took time to get to know me as a person, the quirks of my body, and taught me everything I needed to know to be comfortable going into my first group class. Each instructor I’ve had since has displayed the same care and attention that she did, and everyone I’ve met in class has been lovely and welcoming. Becoming a regular at PBL has strengthened my body, removed the negative self-talk in my head, improved my mental health, and given me a place to just “be”. PBL isn’t just where I go to Pilates class, it’s where I go to feel better and forget about everything else for 50 minutes. Just did my first Pilates class ever at PBL a few days ago and I can confidently say it won’t be my last! The studio itself is so clean and well organized and has a very calming ambiance, perfect for this type of workout. And the workout itself was so much better than I anticipated, I’m still sore, but in the best way. I felt energized and refreshed afterwards, it was a great way to get my blood pumping in the morning. Finally, Hannah was a phenomenal instructor! She explained and demonstrated everything so that it was easy to understand and replicate, and gave form corrections when needed to make sure I was getting the most out of each exercise. Can’t wait to come back for another class! :)

This pilates studio is such an inviting space! I work from home so it’s important for me to stay active since I sit at a desk all day. The instructors always tailor poses to me! The people I’ve met here are SO kind and the owner Hannah is truly one of a kind. She is the kindest soul. It’s very conveniently located off Richmond rd and new circle next to my favorite seamstress Moda! Don’t even get me started on her sock drops. I just bought ones with cherrys on them!!!! Hi! My name is Miriam and I am a new member here at PBL! I am in graduate school at the University of Kentucky but am from Nashville, TN. I have grown up playing sports my whole life and the past two years I have really been into running. Due to some injuries I decided to try pilates and I absolutely love it! The physical and mental benefits are more than I thought. PBL has the best instructors and environment, I truly feel challenged every time I go. It’s challenged me to think of fitness in a new way: not running your body to the ground but focusing on the little things that do add up to exceptional growth. I’m definitely not the most flexible but I love seeing my body function in ways I didn’t think it could. Before finding Pilates Barre lex I had never done Pilates. I was super nervous going for the first time but as soon as I stepped into the studio I felt at peace. I was worried I would be overwhelmed with the other people there since I was new, but the environment was super inviting and those nerves went away. The instructors and the other students were so welcoming! I didn’t feel judged and the movements we did were well explained so it was easy to figure out. All of the instructors I have had are wonderful and super sweet! I look forward to every class. The workouts you do are challenging but not overwhelming. I have only been doing Pilates for a month and I can already feel a difference in my body. If you are thinking about trying Pilates I would highly recommend Pilates Barre Lex!

Writing this immediately after leaving class, where I spent reflecting on how far I’ve come since starting Pilates. I joined Pilates at the start of 2024. I turned 30 this year and I promised myself I would only do things that honored my mind, body and soul. Pilates Barre has done just that. I have gained so much since starting Pilates in so many ways. I have gained a different level of appreciation for my body. A want and desire to protect it and to make it feel good and to keep it feeling good. I have gained flexibility, mind control, a sense of community. I can come in knowing I’m going to cackle for 10 minutes but then take the next 50 to focus on me and my body and what my body and mind need that day. Pilates gives me empowerment. It challenges me in such healthy ways. It makes getting out of bed easier. It sets my mind right on the hardest of days. It’s peace and home and a challenge and beautiful and so many good things. I was new to Pilates when I started at PBL and I am so glad I chose this studio to begin my Pilates journey! I am a new mom and work from home, so I wanted a low impact way to move my body and regulate my stress. It can be so intimidating to start something new, but from my first intro session I felt like the coaches took the time to get to know me and talk about my goals. When I walked into my first group class, I honestly felt like I was hanging out with friends. Everyone is so kind, welcoming, and encouraging.
Hannah has done an amazing job creating a space that feels like home and I am so thankful for the intentional thoughts that go into every detail at the studio. As a busy mom and small business owner I needed to find a low impact way to stay active in my hectic schedule but starting anything new or different can feel intimidating. I reached out to Hannah a few months ago and she helped formulate a plan where I felt comfortable and confident for classes. Hannah and the other instructors are very professional and knowledgeable. I was nervous to start Pilates because I am a bigger girl - I joined to get my body moving again, to stretch and increase flexibility. My first class was a private class and I was hooked after that. I have always been an active person but after having two c-sections I was recommended to try Pilates to strengthen my deep core muscles. I came across PBL Instagram and loved how intimate and inviting it looked. And that’s exactly how it feels to be here! I had been wanting to try pilates for a while when I came across PBL on instagram! I have some physical limitations due to scoliosis and I was so impressed with Hannah at my first visit! If you are even slightly considering visiting Pilates Barre Lex… DO IT!! There are endless things I could say about this studio and the community. I found Pilates Barre Lexington on social media. I was drawn to the pictures and how inclusive the body types and ages were. I reached out to Hannah- owner, instructor, all around super nice person. She immediately made me feel at ease. I’m 47, been out of a health fitness routine for awhile, and was nervous about joining anything new and unfamiliar.
I started with two private sessions, so I’d feel more confident on the reformer and to gain some confidence in my body while on the reformer. Abby, the other awesome instructor there, taught my first class, Hannah the second. They were patient, encouraging, and knowledgeable. I immediately signed up for a membership after the first session. When private classes were over I took my first group reformer class. I was made to feel so welcome. The women were fun, friendly, and badass. I kinda started to feel that way again too. I love how it feels leaning up to pop off or add on springs, grabbing the straps, putting the platform on for a leg trembling workout, and finishing with mermaids and leg circles!
Pilates is somehow both relaxing and challenging. I come into class excited for what we are going to do that day, bc it’s always different, and I leave feeling refreshed and energized. Now I’m obsessed and look forward every day to class. I am also now obsessed with grippy socks, Stanley cups, and yes even the reformer. So thankful to Hannah for the space she has created and cultivated so we can show up, feel good, have fun, and get one hell of a workout.

Best place to get your work out in!!! I tried Pilates for the first time in Utah back in February and instantly fell in love with it. I’m still learning a lot but after all the different forms of excise I’ve done in my life ( sports / weight lifting ) to name a few. This is definitely my sweet spot. Not able to be as consistent as I’d like with working on my own small business, but hopeful I can get into a good routine by the end of the year. If you’ve never tried reformer Pilates you are missing out. Every part of the ”burn” with not near as much of the “out of breath intensity “ great for me since being diagnosed with asthma last fall, the slower pace really makes each exercise so intentional and has personally helped me clear my head after an insane work week. The first moment I walked into PBL I automatically just felt this sense of calm and I still feel it every single time I step into the studio. Hannah has created such a welcoming, charming, fun-loving space where people of all fitness levels can come and enjoy the art of Pilates. I had been doing mat Pilates classes for over two years before deciding to try out reformer classes at PBL and I can’t even begin to explain how much I feel my Pilates practice has improved since incorporating the reformer. I truly don’t know where to begin with this place. I took my first reformer Pilates class in February & kick myself for not coming in sooner! I had fallen off of my fitness wagon with zero idea on how to get back on. Hannah greeted me with open arms and made sure to check in after my first class (I could barely walk the next day hehe) and continued to show she genuinely cared about me; not just as a client but as a friend. Pilates Barre Lex has been an amazing experience. After moving to Lexington I was looking for a place to be able to move my body with intentionality while also having a welcoming environment. I went to Pilates barre Lex not knowing what to expect but found exactly what I was looking for! There is not a better Pilates place I have been to. It has a welcoming community where I can grow in my Pilates experience and keep myself healthy. I cannot recommend Pilates barre Lex enough! I received a gift certificate for private sessions with Hannah for my birthday last year and it was my first time taking a pilates class ever. I immediately fell in love with pilates, the studio, and Hannah and I have been taking classes twice a week since! It can be intimidating starting a new fitness class, especially if you are a beginner, but Hannah has created an incredibly welcoming space for pilates students of all levels. She takes into consideration everyone in the class and any modifications they may need. This is the first workout class that I genuinely cannot wait to go to and I never need to psyche myself up or force myself to go. I look forward to each class and it is truly the best part of my week! Since starting pilates, I have noticed improvement in my posture, less pain in my back and hips from sitting in a desk chair, and so much more flexibility and overall strength. I have taken Pilates classes with Hannah for over two years and have never been bored. Every class is different and keeps my body guessing! After knee replacement surgery, my recovery was so smooth because I had taken Pilates on a regular basis. My balance, flexibility, core, and stamina helped me get back on my knee that very day. I never used a walker or cane because my body was strong as a result of regular Pilates practice. Hannah and Abby offer modifications when necessary and challenge me to continue to improve. I started working out with Hannah on the advice of a friend. I had finished chemo, surgery and radiation therapy for breast cancer eight weeks before I started and was exhausted and physically just spent. From that first day I felt at home in her studio, and I met some really lovely people. Her studio is an inclusive and very pleasant place to be.
We work hard and we laugh. It is great to feel stronger and more flexible with each workout. I just had reconstructive surgery and I give my consistent Pilates practice a lot of the credit for my smooth recovery. I can’t wait to get back to it with a whole new set of goals.

I have been come to PBL for a little over a month and can't say better things. Not only have I already seen a big difference in my strength but my diastasis reci. Love!! Never tried reformer pilates? This is your place. Perfect for beginners. I recommend doing the principles or group reformer class first.
