Worse gym in Shelbyville, Ky by far. Also… watch out for the hidden fees if you cancel they will still charge you $50+ despite being a member of PF for 6 or more years and my documentation originally guaranteeing 24 hour open gym… they can still take your money and change their policies as they may. It’s all about the business and not the people at this club. Also… avoid the showers they usually have dirt sitting in them, toilets aren’t clean, gym is always overcrowded, and staff doesn’t try to help when you reach out. Again.. worse planet fitness I’ve been to, one of the worse gyms in Shelbyville. Go to anytime fitness and avoid this place.

Serious Privacy Violation—Action Required from Planet Fitness

As someone who has been a loyal gym member for years, I never look forward to writing a review like this. But after what happened during my recent visit to this Planet Fitness location, I feel obligated to speak up—not just for myself, but for the safety and dignity of every member who expects basic privacy and respect in the locker room.

During my first visit to this particular location, I was finishing a shower when I opened the curtain to see a woman seated on the far side of the locker room, back to me, actively engaged in a *video call*. Her phone was aimed *directly toward the shower I was in*. She noticed me, lowered her phone, then a moment later lifted it again—*visibly checking if I appeared on her screen*.

There is **no justification** for phone use, video recording, video calling, or photographing in a locker room. It’s not just inappropriate—it’s **illegal** under Kentucky law and a direct violation of Planet Fitness policy. I immediately reported the incident to two women at the front desk. To their credit, they took my report seriously, asked questions, and documented the event. I made it clear that:

* I expect management to review camera footage (the incident occurred shortly before 9:30 AM) for the woman who exited the locker room.
* I expect the woman—who was the *only other person in the locker room at the time* and had a long blonde braid—to have her membership permanently revoked.
* I expect clear and visible signage to be installed in locker and shower areas that explicitly states **no phone use of any kind is permitted**.

This is not an isolated concern. I've experienced multiple disturbing incidents at other Planet Fitness locations—such as men entering women’s showers and members video chatting in semi-private spaces. Each one chips away at the trust and sense of safety that members rely on.

Planet Fitness markets itself as a “Judgment Free Zone,” but there is a serious difference between being inclusive and being negligent. *Members should not have to worry about being filmed while undressed.*

Management, you have a legal and ethical obligation to protect your members. Review the footage. Enforce your policies. Post proper signage. Revoke the memberships of those who violate other members’ rights.

To fellow members: if you’ve seen or experienced similar behavior, **please speak up**. Privacy and respect aren’t luxuries—they are minimum standards. Let’s hold this gym—and every gym—to them.

This location would get 5 stars for no other reason than what's in the picture. However, not only do they have that, the staff was extremely friendly, and the shower was really good for a Planet Fitness, though they need a couple more changing closets. I did use a tanning booth as well, which unfortunately had a few bulbs that were burnt out, but the management was aware and the bulbs were on backorder. There's a very large parking lot which is nice for a trucker. I will likely return to this location in the future when in the area.

Let's start with the management. There's a particular manager, a woman named Nikka, who seems to derive some twisted pleasure from publicly berating members over the slightest payment hiccup. Imagine being mid-stretch, only to have Nimka's shrill voice echoing across the gym, questioning your financial responsibility in front of everyone. It's not just rude; it's deeply uncomfortable and frankly, none of her business, especially when my account is consistently up-to-date, just sometimes paid a day or two later due to my payday schedule.

Then you have the other staff members, some of whom act like power-hungry playground monitors. I once witnessed a staff member, barely out of their teens, lecturing a grown man about his water bottle not being "Planet Fitness approved" – apparently, it wasn't purple enough! The sheer audacity and pettiness are astounding.

And if you're hoping for a seamless experience, think again. I tried to use a tanning bed last week, only to find it ice cold and clearly not prepped. When I went to find an employee, there she was, leaning against the front desk, engrossed in some social media feed on her phone, completely oblivious to her actual job.

The inconvenience doesn't end there. Despite most gyms operating 24/7, this particular Planet Fitness has limited hours, which is already frustrating. But to add insult to injury, they can't even seem to adhere to their own schedule! On multiple occasions, I've arrived early, ready for my workout, only to find a handful of other members milling around outside, waiting for the doors to open… sometimes a full half-hour past the stated time! It's infuriating, especially when they have no problem automatically deducting membership fees from my account.

The final straw was attempting to cancel my membership. Instead of a simple online process, they insist you come in person – a clear tactic to subject you to a guilt trip and pressure you into staying. Honestly, the thought of having to face their dismissive attitudes one last time just to cancel makes me want to avoid the place entirely. Save yourself the headache and the humiliation; there are far better gyms that actually respect their members' time and money. I'm canceling and never looking back.

The fact that it’s not 24/7 like the rest of the stores is one thing. But getting up early and going through your morning routine so you can hit the gym before a busy day with kids and work getting cut short because you can’t even open on time is just ridiculous! Waiting in the parking lot for 30 min past opening time on a recurring basis is unacceptable. PF doesn’t have to wait for the money to come out of my bank account, so I feel like opening on time shouldn’t be a problem. There are enough gyms and budget equipment out there for me to make this post once. I will be canceling immediately.

Imagine only getting paid on a certain day and constantly being confronted by the same manager Nikka. I could be a day late and I promise you she will call you out in front of the entire gym. Mind you my stuff stays paid up but sometimes I have to pay a littler later in the month… excuse me. Too many cardio machines, not enough benches and smith machines. Only 1 bicep preacher machine that 90% of time is broken. Not enough weight training equipment, long waits for bench. Too many gaggles of teenagers, even 10pm on weekdays there is herds of teens clogging all the equipment.
Staff is great, place is clean, just too busy, please add more weights, less cardio!

The signs said I would love the new cardio equipment. I do not like it at all. Planet Fitness has gotten rid of all the cybex arctrainer machines. this was the only machine that is good for people with knee or ankle pain issues. i have tried all of the new cross trainer machines and they put too much pressure on knees or ankles. Planet fitness needs to bring back the cybex arc trainer machines or keep the old ones when doing an upgrade

This is our home location. We have been in Planet Fitness locations all across the country. This is hands down, one of the cleanest locations there is. They have a good variety of equipment and the staff has always been very helpful and easy to work with. Unlike other PF’s we have been to.

Reading a lot of your reviews and the responses to your reviews. I don’t understand why you are so adamant that the gentleman brought in a gallon water jug when it was clearly a half gallon jug. I understand that it won’t fit in your cup holders and you don’t want a jug sitting on the floor, however you denied the fellow entry for simply having the jug, not because he had it on the floor. How do you know he wasn’t going to leave the jug in his locker? Also, there is no cup holders in the free weight section or the cable machines. Do you expect members to hold their water bottles when using free weights ?

The staff is super friendly and they make you feel like it's a second home. The tanning beds work very well where I got a noticable tan within a week. All the equipment really helps and noticed and difference and I can tell I have more stamina.

I can't say enough about how amazing the staff here is; amazingly helpful, ever-present positive attitudes and diligently working, never leaning or looking like slackers.

My complaints about the gym have to do with the limitations of the equipment. The lack of a free weight barbell bench is almost inexcusable in a gym. The EZ bars only go up to 60 lbs; I'm not a very strong guy and that's absurdly light for most basic exercises. Dante issue with the caps on the machines. There's also no prone hamstring machine outside the 30-minute waste of space that hardly anyone actually uses for circuit training.
