Very unfriendly staff at the front check-in when I was trying to open a membership there she was very cold and unfriendly but every other person that came in she (her first name starts with an S and she is an older woman but for discretion purposes I will not put her full name on here) seemed to give them favoritism and I just thought to myself like this is my first time in here we donβt know each other, but I am trying to get a membership and I was Just trying my best to try to be as friendly as I could but it was not reciprocated and it just made me not even want to get a membership there. why give your money to the YMCA. Are they even Christian based anymore ? I hope management reads these reviews and talks with all of the staff about just being a little bit friendlier to new people that have never been there before because weβre spending crazy amounts of money just to join a membership and all of their crazy fees that are included.

Very Disappointed with My Experience
Me, my husband and two kids have a membership.
I was very disappointed with how my family and I were treated at the YMCA on October 8th, 2025, around 11 a.m.
After our Play with Purpose class, I found out I had a flat tire and went outside to call for help. My mother offered to walk my daughter into Kids Club, but as she passed the front desk, a staff member yelled at her, saying, βHeyyy, you are not a YMCA member!β My mother doesnβt speak English and was left feeling confused and embarrassed.
I understand that staff must check memberships for safety, but this could have been handled politely and respectfully. A simple, calm request would have been enough.
When I spoke with the manager Quan A Founder, there was no empathy or accountability. He said he needed to βcheck the camerasβ instead of simply listening and understanding. Later, when I returned to get my belongings, the same staff member refused to scan my membership card, and another worker had to step in.
This experience went completely against the YMCAβs own core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Because of this, I decided to cancel my familyβs membership. I hope this situation is used to better train staff on kindness and cultural sensitivity so other families feel welcome and respected.

I first opened my membership when this facility opened up in 2020. I was happy to have a fresh new YMCA in my community. I closed my membership due to inactivity but recently resumed my membership. I've use the same set of lockers since 2020. Well a few weeks ago I put my purse in the locker that I always would, worked out for about an hour, and when I came back my purse was gone!
Before I reported as theft I checked every locker in the locker room, and the few that were locked I put my combination in (I only use two combination codes) and the locks did not unlock. When I reported the theft to the front desk they were nonchalant and told me that I could not speak to the manager. When I was able to meet with the manager I was not met with much concern initially, he did how ever rectify that issue. He informed me that he reviewed the cameras and did not see anyone with my purse, but would keep a look out, and that there was someone who checked all the locker including the locked ones so if there was a chance that my purse was in one of those lockers they would let me know.
After that I went back to that same Y about three different times, checking the lockers each time just to be sure because I thought I was going crazy. There had been no update. Two weeks had gone by and i received a call that my purse had been found in one of the lockers. I was grateful, but it still didn't make sense.
But a few days later the Membership coordinator reached out to me and told me that she was 100% sure that no one stole my purse, they had never had issues with theft( which seems untrue looking at the other reviews) and that my purse had been sitting in a locker for two weeks. My question was, if that was the case why did no one contact me? Her response was that she had no idea that a theft was reposted until she received my voicemail about them not being able to charge my card( which was due to me having to cancel all my cards and get new ones bc of the purse theft). That still is not an excuse to not try to figure out who's purse was left in a locker.. Why would you not try to figure out what member is missing their purse, or at least aske staff if anyone had reported a missing purse?
She then told me that I did not follow proper protocol, and that I should have informed the front desk( which I did) and they would have let her know. There was definitely a lack of communication between staff. Other staff members hinted at it being an inside job, but at the end of that day this situation was handled poorly. And it's very ironic that after I filed a police report my purse shows up.
Lastly the carpet and the equipment could be cleaned.. There is caked up dirt around the bottom of some of the equipment.

We have a community membership & drive 20mins to come to this location. The staff has a great family vibe, when you walk in you always get a warm welcome. The kids area is great, itβs never crowded and the pool area is always clean.

Really nice and clean,, a great experience for me it was my first time & soon as I walked in Cortez welcomed me in and gave me a tour and then I instantly joined the yoga class that was amazing!!! Not just the instructor patient and sweet but the class itself was great the people so friendly. I had a ran into a trainer right after yoga named Mr George and he worked me hard and we only was training for 15 minutes and I was sweating and burning πππ I then did some cardio with the equipment you can tell still got that new look and feel to them and they work wonderfully & to end off a session the sauna OMGGG worked beautifully I feel like I lost 100 pounds with everything offered and donee at that ymca π as I was leaving the 2 ladies and sports coordinator were sweet to get me a schedule as well as assisting me with signing my kids up for the activities and childcare while I workout program!!! I will be returning THANK YOU GUYS for the experience.

UpDate: Tuesday, 5/13/2025, My Homeless Self Care Was Interrupted - Staff, Banging On The Door, Threatening Removal (When I Came Out, No One Was There, & Another Visit, Told Me To Come Out, & Stay Out. I Won't Be Back, If I Can Avoid It.), & The Director Implied My Time Will Be Monitored. The Six Mile Lane Location Had A Complaint About My Time, In The Dressing Room, Too. The Story I Tell, Below, Was Repeated, & The Staff@That Location, Assured Me I Could Take The Time I Needed.
Where Is The YWCA - Providing For Homelessness; Medical Care; Mental Health? All The Resources Prefer Crisis I Don't Identify With.
I've Been In Good Health, Most Of 53yrs. Now, After 6yrs, & A Shingles OutBreak - B'cuz Retail Shoppers Imposed Hugs, & BedBugs, & - Potentially, Shingles. The Homeless Clinic Dr. Is So Distracted By Telling Me I'm Delusional, I Was Never Treated For A Lung Infection; Norton's E.R., Helped, After Multiple Visits, & My Insisting I Was ReActing To B.P., & Diabetic Rx.
Next Year, 2026, If Women, Telling Police I'm Dead, Don't Get Their Wish, I Will Have Been, Counted, Among The Homeless, 20yrs.
Thank you for the space to shower, & refresh...I'm struggling with trauma. I wish it wasn't so difficult to take myself inside. I'm bullied, by women, in ways which look as if they are being nice, & trying to help. I'm unemployed, & waiting for the results of my application for job training, from Louisville Urban League, & I'm discouraged by how easy it is to collect data, & not get anyone to services, promised. No word on math test, or reading comprehension test, or eligibility - no timeline. It seems as if it's a scam, b'cuz I was asked about housing, & have sheltered, in my vehicle, for 15yrs. I have worked on election days since 2001, & my most recent employer laid us off, after Christmas, 2024. This was my 2nd time, working, in Indiana, for this employer, & I worked with voters, November, 2024. My attendance, at work, is among the best. Homelessness is not a barrier for employment. Why is Louisville Urban League asking about housing, when I'm applying for job training, to get a job, needed, for housing to be paid for?! See?
The 1st sound in "Housing!", is "How?!", & Senior Community Service Education Program (SCSEP) is offered to people 55yrs old, & older, to train, & upgrade our resume.
I've worked since 1983, & lived most of my life, in Louisville, KY, where women prefer to learn where I'm from, as if I haven't lived; worked; paid taxes, & supported local businesses - from The West End, To Newburg, for more than 30yrs, since the Clinton Administration downsized the military, & thousands were refused basic training. I protested medical discharge, now, "unclassified", for 6 months, b'cuz The U.S.Navy ordered me to go home, & await orders. 29yrs, later, after I was advised to forget it ever happened, & couldn't, b'cuz I had to explain the gap, in my resume, Louisville, KY women see me as a refugee/illegal alien, & look for ways to deport me to - ?! - wherever they imagine I'm from. I've never had a passport; partner, or pregnancy, b'cuz females are so upset, when they see me. HairCare professionals won't touch my hair; the police have been called, if I walk 5-10Miles, each day, for years; police are called, if I'm parked, in the daytime, during busy hours, but, sleepy, in the driver's seat. If I have a job, women pressure every level of employment to see me disqualified, or evaluated, for mental illness, & the local news did a story about homeless women being offered inappropriate things, after we can't pay rent, b'cuz employers layoff, & offer volunteer time off, while in training.
Sorry. I love the YMCA. I wish women would quit pushing each other around, & reestablish YWCA, especially, for medical care; mental healthcare; shelter; showers; meals, & employment. The Old Louisville Gardens building had an old YWCA sign, so, we had a building, here, at one time.
Thank you!

Beautiful gym very clean but front desk staff is very unprofessional. No greetings and takes so long to scan in memberships not friendly borderline rude. The morning people need retraining in customer interaction . The sauna smells terrible and needs to be sanitized couldn't inform front desk staff they're busy talking to each other.. first impression with front desk staff make me just go somewhere else.

Workers are pretty much useless when it comes to lost items.i lost my earbuds case in the lockers and when I came back the next day and asked if they had it because they clean out the lockers every night, all they did was stare at me and tell me no.i lost them at the 8:28 so there is no way someone stole them:(

Newer facility so of course it looks shiny and clean. Staff isn't very helpful. The sauna doesn't get as hot as the other locations. I also don't like how's there's no mirrors in the whole free weight area which really sucks because I like to keep an eye on my form. I cant believe what i saw today,. I watched a staff member open lockers for children today that were not theirs. After the staff member left the children were giggling acknowledging the fact that the locker was not theirs. So if your stuff was stolen today, i might be able to help identify the children responsible and i know the staff member that opened up the locker. On a less serious note. Swim lanes for lap swimmers are now open to 9+ individuals if they are children. They are allowed to cross into your lane while swimming. They are allowed to splash you while you are lap swimming. The staff will do nothing about it. However, by going to someone to complain, they had no issues telling me what i was doing wrong, which was leaving the pool area without drying off to make the complaint. But nothing was done about the children. I've been to all YMCA in Louisville and many others and have never witnessed blatant crime and rudeness like i have here. I'd swim in a puddle in the middle of Broadway before going back here.

Parking is HORRIFIC!!!! For day to day normal activities it is adequate. But, when a special event occurs by utilizing the Conference Room for outside Vendors, we the members of the YMCA and clients of other companies within, are left without parking or at the very least inconvenienced, especially for handicap persons who had to park and walk(with a cane) from the rear of the parking lot!!!

The facility is really nice (the republic Bank location). My son likes to play basketball there, he is 9. I'm disappointed that there isn't a designatated side of the court for younger kids. The adults/older teens typically play games on the first side (split by a divider) and then many come to the other side of the divider to shoot the ball as well. They don't take into consideration the smaller kids...they play rough, don't watch out for them when running the ball and curse and yell. I wish they had sinage to make one side 13 and under and had an associate there to enforce this. It makes it difficult to want to take him there to play when all you hear is foul language the entire time and you have to worry about them getting run over.
The pool area is nice but there isn't much seating at all. With 5 families there you'd be lucky to have a seat.. I can't imagine a full house you'd have to stand or sit on the floor while your family swims.
The best buy teen center upstairs is nice, my son enjoyed himself in there and the lady who runs it was really sweet. Overall it's a nice facility but a few changes could be implemented to make it great.

My hubby and I LOVE going to workout at the YMCA (Republic Bank Foundation - 1720 West Broadway). We love the atmosphere of inspiration this Health Club offers. This location is well maintained and the YMCA team members are outstanding! There is an abundance of machines and free weights to utilize and we love the large indoor track and Olympic size pool. What a great place to achieve your health goals and have fun doing it! The membership director is outstanding and she is very caring about her team. Shoutout also to team member (George) who is a great coach and always helps members with their fitness goals. George also takes the time to show members how to properly workout on each machine to get the maximized health benefits! We highly recommend this YMCA location!
