Karate school Martial arts schoolAbout the Club
The Sin Thé Karate School is the oldest and most reputable martial arts school in Lexington, KY. It is the international home of Shaolin-Do, offering the ancient martial art of the Shaolin Temples in China to the people of Lexington since 1964! Before anyone had ever heard of Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jet Li, Grandmaster Sin Thé was teaching Shaolin-Do!

I've been with the school since 1972. The training is from the inside out not the outside in. You become what you practice by opening a door and going through it deeply.

If you are looking for how to do pretend or movie fighting or have your kids do cool karate poses this is the place. If you want your kids or yourself learn how to fight either professional sports wise or self defense do not go here. Trust me your kid will get beat up bad especially if he’s in high school trying to fight a wrestler he will get mauled. If you truly want karate go to a kyokoshin karate or another full contact proven karate. Honestly a boxing or Muay Thai school or wrestling in school would be way more effective. I’ve tried this place for 2 months but it was so dumb I couldn’t take it seriously neither could my son. If you want your kid to have confidence he can beat anyone when he doesn’t know a thing about fighting this place is good though.

Been studying here for over 20 years, got my kids here with me bringing up the next generation. Not only is it the oldest martial arts school in Lexington it is without a doubt the most traditional. The head instructor Elder Master Bill Leonard has been been with Grand Master Sin Thè for 52 years, many of the other masters have been learning and teaching in this school for over 20. The school studies and practices traditional Shaolin “boxing”, Tai Chi, Pa Qua, meditation, and Qui Gong, which encompasses hundreds of classical animal forms and a multitude of classical weapons and other open hand techniques including the wooden man. If you want someone to babysit your kids and hand out belts or you are looking for sport competition “MMA” styles this isn’t the place for you. If you want to learn self defense, Chinese history and mythology, meditation, healing, and classical long forms in a space that will become your second home for a life time, come join the family. Shaolin is not just a martial art, it’s a way of life.

I took classes with sin the back in 1973, at the age of 14, loved it, made it to 3rd degree brown belt. Then life situation changed. Wish I could continue now.
