This golf course has no business being in business till it gets a complete work over . Absolutely awful playing conditions . It’s unplayable

Played the course 20 years ago, it was a goat ranch, played it the other day and it's still a goat ranch. Can't tell a fairway from the rough, the greens have as much dirt spots as grass. And no food at the clubhouse at noon.

good news! - the golf carts and new, and nice - the lady at the starter desk was very helpful.. (not sure why they need your phone number and driver license though? I have never been asked to give those at a golf course.. probably trying to prevent damage to their new carts - but, still - felt like I was buying batteries in Radio Shack back in 1979)

not as good news.. this course was in awful condition - worst I have played on in the past decade, easily -

Hole number 2 is closed "indefinitely" - looks like maybe permanently? - where the green would be, looked like a SCUD had hit..

the weeds/grass/exposed dirt making up the "fairway" was atrocious - in some places so long we had to look for extra minutes to find balls actually hit ON the fairway..

The greens were 90% terrible - bare patches, exposed, cracked dirt.. almost all putts were strictly "hit and hope" - unless you were lucky enough to get a path of all grass to the hole - at least they seem to have been mowed that morning..

The layout is OK I guess.. this is NOT one of those courses lined with McMansions on both sides of every hole, which I HATE - so that is good..

Seemed anyway that most holes are made on a side sloping fairway.. so lots of shots hit with ball above and below your feet - always challenging - yeah - but I did not enjoy this on hole after hole after hole..

All that - plus - a person on the adjacent property was doing some serious target practice for the whole first hour - with what sounded like a 9 mm. round literally every 5 seconds like clockwork - I have no problem with target practice, for sure.. but with the gunfire and atrocious conditions of the grounds.. I felt like I was playing golf with Trapper John and Hawkeye in the Korean War Zone..

I think with LOTS of time, effort, and serious infusion of Ca$h - TCC/Tanglewood COULD become a nice course again.. but - wonder if there is a big enough population of duffers within 30 miles to make it worth the investment?

I doubt I will be teeing off there again at any time in the next 10 years, but I DO wish the owners/staff the best of luck..

Course is still in rough shape but you can see they are working towards bringing it back to life. Staff and owners are super friendly. Food is great in the bar upstairs! It will take time and resources to get it back to standards but I can’t wait to see it when it happens!

After playing today I don’t think I will be back. The course is in the worst shape I’ve seen in 10 years. It is easily the worst course in the area by far. Not to mention the completely disrespectful and rude workers, along with the “members” of whatever country club they think they are building. This ain’t Valhalla. I was just trying to have a nice morning with my family and was talked to extremely inappropriately. Whatever you do, I would suggest going somewhere else. These new owners have completely ruined the golf course that all of us know. You are better off just paying a little bit more and paying a real golf course down the road. “Country club” give me a break.

I’ve been golfing at the course f.k.a. Tanglewood, for many years, and super sad that the new owners have run this place into the ground very quickly. Within a year the course looks absolutely horrendous, close to unplayable - you can rebrand and get new carts as much as you want but if you can’t take care of the course, good luck making it. Not to mention the way they are treating “non-members”, like being a “member” at a crap hole course is something special. 😆 Hopefully, the “new owners” give up quickly and we get some people that can actually take care of a golf course.

Don't recommend this course! Not more than a cow pasture! The #2 green and I use that term lightly was nothing but mud, and the fairways are extremely unmaintained.

To say I’m disappointed is an understatement.

Earlier this year, a colleague and I purchased the WHAS11 Golf card since it allows you to play at some great courses around the greater Louisville area as well as all the proceeds goes towards a great cause. We called each club (including this one) to confirm cart fees, etc. before purchasing since we wanted to understand pricing beforehand.

However, upon entering inside the pro shop (which was the only nice thing about the place minus the new carts) and presenting our cards, we instantly were hit with a $60 bill even though the card waives the green fees.

That’s when we learn this club was recently bought out by new owners. The wife of the owner began to explain to us that they never agreed to the contract that the original owners agreed to and were only willing to give us a slight discount because they are needing to pay off the new golf carts they just bought.

After a good 10 minute back and forth - the owner then said “I’m not gonna argue with you” and met us closer to the original fee that was originally advertised as well as was confirmed over the phone just a few weeks before this. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable in an interaction that felt like pulling teeth if anything else.

That’s not the worst part, after that huge ordeal we finally hit the links only to be shocked at how badly the cart paths, sand traps, and even a poor excuse for a green I’ve ever seen. The pics don’t do it justice - how can you charge people tournament course level prices but let people play with these conditions?

I’m not one to complain but I’d stay far away from this course. We drove an hour from downtown to test this course out hoping to enjoy it enough to come back again but management is focused more on getting their investment back on their golf carts than its customers (and it’s grass).

Ultimately, whether the owners did good or bad business decisions - you should at least uphold the promise they made towards a good charity. Especially since it’s bringing in new players that otherwise would never think to play there.

Do better! Golf is in its golden age - focus on building relationships first and allow the transactions to follow.

This place is not what it used to be AT ALL. First off, apparently they do not affiliate themselves with Golf Now so our reservation was null even though we paid. We had to pay AGAIN but they probably have no problem with taking our money from Golf Now. The fairways are all dead. The bunkers are greener than the actual greens. It is not kept up at all. We also all got stung multiple times from the multitude of bugs infested on the carts. Everything about the course itself was not worth our money but at least the carts were nice.

We played there yesterday for the first time since change in ownership. Course is in horrible condition. 37 dollar cart fees for old carts that barely start when you get back in them. 40 dollars for a 12 pack of beer. I'm not sure what they think they have there, but good luck to them, we won't be back.I doubt many others will either. Seriously, for the shape of the course and the carts, they should be embarassed to charge more than $20 for fees and cart combined. And if you're gonna rip people off at 40 dollars for a 12 pack if Ultra, then expect people to sneak in their own. Seriously, who owns this place and have they ever even been to a legit golf course

Probably one of the worst golf courses I've played in a while..! Cost me $80 to play 18 holes($50 for the round and $30 in golf balls). They have 3-5in crab grass on the side of the fairway. So if you're not on the fairway, you'll probably lose that ball (even when playing with lime green balls) . Not to mention the hills and slopes they added you can hit a ball left and it will roll all the way to the right side, or hit over the hills and not know at all where that ball landed. Lastly, the "sand traps" are compacted hard dirt with weeds and grass growing in them. Our golf cart would back fire at every hill and jerk every time it started.

Love the course, good people, affordable.

Edit: Not really sure I agree with the changes being made or the clientele trying to be brought in but it has gone downhill. Tanglewood used to be a great place for this community but it's now trying to be a Polo Fields in Spencer County. The pricing Increased for weekends and weekdays when nothing has changed on the course, assuming it was to pay for the restaurant remodel. Please Tanglewood, do better and think about clientele. Not very many golfers from the city are driving out to pay the green and cart fees for a course that hasn't changed.

It breaks my heart to see what Tanglewood has become and the direction it's headed. I was there to help make it a great place to play. The decisions from the new owner clearly shows that he is not a fan of golf. And has no respect for players. I have no idea what he was thinking when getting rid of Matt. Matt Puckett was Tanglewood. He brought it from literally nothing to what it is today. Working 70 to 80 hours a week and never complaining. Because he knew, that's what it takes to make it a great place to play. All I can say Allen is, next year when you're looking at your empty parking lot of your closed down business. Remember, it was all because of your bad decisions and judgment.
Stay and play customers will have to find another place to come to. Fortunately for you Henry County country club. Is your answer. Top notch facility in incredible condition. Soon to be stay and play ready. And the best part of all of this is, they have Matt Puckett at the helm there. So everything that made your trips great before can be found again at Henry County country club.

Played a round of disc golf and was expecting a decently maintained course for having to pay $7 to play. Far from it, by far the worst maintain course I’ve ever played. Weeds in the fairways are thigh high. Trees down everywhere. Over grown tee pads, greens and fairways. Poor signage in some areas for finding the next hole or even the trail to the hole. Prepare to loose disc. Cool to check another place off the list. But won’t be retuning, when I can play other local spots for free that are in far better condition

It is a shame that a rather fun golf course has become almost unplayable. 5+ hour rounds are the norm, not the exception, when you come out here, as there is no enforcement of pace or group maximums. I used to make the drive out from Louisville rather frequently, and encouraged others to join. I will not be doing that anymore. There are other courses in the area that do more to ensure an enjoyable round. Unless you are the first tee time of the day, look elsewhere.

First let me say thanks to Matt the club pro and all the staff … they took care of my entire group , 🚙we traveled 3hrs to get there . Our condos were clean , updated and rite on the course , super convenient . We did a Stay and Play for 6 people .. and for the Price 🤑you cannot beat this place ! .. Tuff course for all levels of golfers🏌️ .. and the greens⛳️ are in Awesome condition!!!. yes the fairways could be better (in spots) and yes it does get a lil backed up (at times) but what public course doesn’t? , if your looking to be that picky😩go pay $80+ a round at a private club…Tanglewood makes it affordable to play an expensive sport and you can’t ask for much more .. I would definitely Recommend this place to anyone and I will be returning someday soon …the pro shop was great ! Got me a super nice Titleist hat 🧢 . They also have a bar🍺 and a kitchen 🍔in the club house for all of your golfing needs on and off the course . Big shout out to Tanglewood for having us ! 🙏💯

Absolutely beautiful course. Got some nice views. More than a decent challenge. The sand was a bit more packed than you'd think after a week of Temps being 90-100, other than that they had lots of flying pests in them. Greens are very slow in the morning times cause of all the dew. I started at 8, and it was best right around 130-2. The staff couldn't have been nicer. Don't go on weekend unless you have 6 hours for a round. When it's busy they will tell you up front they know it's going to a long wait. Yet have no problem taking your money and not investing in even a single marshall or maybe a tee starter on 1. Don't bother trying to play through either, won't happen. Go somewhere else that cares about your round quality.

Tanglewood Golf Course is an eighteen-hole golf course in Taylorsville, Kentucky that isn’t easy to find. Unless you’re looking for it, you probably wouldn’t know it’s there but trust me, it’s worth the drive. And I’m not the only one that thinks so. According to General Manager Matt Puckett, year in and year out, groups come to Tanglewood from the surrounding states and the club’s 12 condos and 12 motel rooms start getting booked up for the year by the middle of April. ||||Tanglewood is located a mere seventeen miles from Louisville, Kentucky, and I-265 (the Gene Snyder Freeway), The course is set on over 200 acres of “rolling terrain,” and I use that term loosely. It’s probably as close to mountain golf as you can get to in this area. It was designed by Buck Blankenship and opened for play in 1994. From the White Tees, Tanglewood plays 6,202 yards; With a course rating of 70.9 and a slope of 129. There’s one par 5 on the front side, making it a par 35, and three par 5’s on the back for a par of 37. Ladies typically play from the Red Tees (4,802/66.8/117) with a par of 73. ||||While there may not be a lot of bunkers on the course, the elevation changes and slope in the fairways and greens more than compensates. Narrow tree-lined ryegrass fairways that play along sloped hillsides produce those dreaded uneven lies and ultimately lead to fast, well-manicured Bentgrass greens. You’ll encounter numerous blind shots, so course knowledge is at a premium. ||||Tanglewood is full of memorable holes. If you can get off to a good start on the first hole, you’ll probably have a good round. It’s long – 431 yards – from the White tees, with a blind tee shot and a semi-blind approach shot. Other than that, it’s a breeze!||||Number 4 is an interesting par 4. It’s only 324 yards but requires a tee shot from an elevated tee box, over a deep valley with a pond at the bottom to another left to right sloping fairway. It’s about a 200-yard carry from the tee to the top of the hill. Success off the tee will leave a short chip shot into a shallow green.||||Number 6 is Tanglewood’s signature hole and rightfully so. At 494 yards, it’s a 3-shot par 5 for just about everyone. If I were naming holes, this one would be called “Layup,” because it’s all about the second shot. There’s a lake that sits about 140 yards in front of the green and forces the majority of players to hit a good layup shot which will leave anywhere from 130 – 150 yards into an elevated green that slopes back to front. ||||Number 8 is a good risk/reward par 4 that plays 287 yards from the White tees. The green isn’t visible from the tees and those large trees you see directly ahead of you are in the middle of the fairway. Anything hit off the tee that goes past the 150-yard markers will make it difficult to get your approach shot up and over the trees. The other option is to go past them but hitting a driver is a big risk.||||Number 10 is a short par 4 (269 yards) is a risk/reward hole that begs long ball hitters to go for it off the tee. If there’s any doubt about reaching the green. Hit an iron off the tee. Everything slopes hard left to right, and if you hit it right, pars can be tough to come by! The green slopes back right to front left.||||Holes 11, 12, and 13 define Tanglewood. Play these three holes at par or better and you’ll likely post a good score when all is said and done. You’ve probably played here before too! Number 11 is a 396-yard par 4 that is the course’s #1 handicap. It’s a very slight dogleg left, and the green is not the one you see in the distance; it sits below the second hill and behind the pond. A good drive will still leave a blind mid-iron shot into a green fronted by a small pond. The right side provides a bailout area and leaves a slightly uphill chip shot. The green slopes left to right and can make for some interesting putts.||||Number 12 is the longest par 3 at Tanglewood and because it plays uphill, it’s slightly longer than the stated yardage of 215. Anything that comes up short is going to leave an uphill pitch shot. The green slopes back to front, so anything over the green can leave a tricky up and down.||||I found Number 13 to be the most intimidating tee shot on the course. Off the tee, there appears to be little, if any, landing area. The fairway slopes dramatically left to right. If you’re a longball hitter, consider hitting your tee shot left and playing down the adjacent fairway. It’s not traditional but it worked for me! Find the fairway off the tee and you’ll need to play your layup shot to the left, again, to compensate for the sloping fairway. That will leave a short, slightly downhill chip shot into a large green that slopes modestly from back to front. Miss the green on your approach. Hard to believe it’s handicapped #7.||||Number 18 is a fun finishing hole and a good chance to get a stroke back on the last hole. It’s an uphill dogleg left that plays 278 yards from the White tees, over a pond. A good drive will leave a short pitch into a small green and a chance to at birdie with a good chip shot. ||||Tanglewood taught me how to deal with blind shots, especially approaches into the green. What I discovered is that when in doubt, hit less club. There isn’t a lot of water to deal with and most of the “trouble is on the peripheries and behind the greens. Coming up short isn’t a bad thing; you’ll keep the same ball in play. I’m sure I would feel differently if I played the course regularly. ||||Tanglewood is centrally located and within two hours of three major metropolitan cities: Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and Nashville. They offer tremendous stay and play packages with lodging overlooking the #10 fairway and either hotel-style or condo accommodations. Packages start at $220 for a hotel-style room and include 3 days of unlimited golf with a cart and 2 nights stay. Condos start at $250. Tanglewood offers all guests a $10 breakfast buffet as well as buffet-style meal plans that feed groups for $10 per night. Small appetizers are available in the full-liquor bar.||||Tanglewood also offers some incredible membership rates. For example, you can play 7 days a week with a golf cart for $1400/year. If you average 10 rounds a month for 9 months, that’s a little over $15.00/round.

What a great course! Went out on a weekday morning and it was not busy at all. My girlfriend gets so frustrated and sometimes hates golf. I went here with her because she wanted to try a course once for me, and then never have to go again. She had a frustrating day, but later in the day she was happy with the idea of going again the next week, because she liked the course so much. Its a beautiful, country setting. I am basically a beginner and I handled it just fine. It was challenging as many fairways were a little up and down and hilly, but it wasn't too bad. The course's blue and white tees would be a sure challenge. Example: Even though I played the red, which was challenging but manageable, there are some holes where the blue and white tees are hitting from a far away, weird angle over water, while the red did not even hit over the water. NOTE: The difference between the red tee and blue/white tee is significantly more than just distance on many holes. The fairways were in excellent shape. The grass around the green even got shorter as if it were a real PGA course. The greens were smooth and solid green as they should be. Not one spot on this course and its fairways had any extensive brown color - let alone any brown at all. It was ALL smooth and green, just like a real course. I will be going back very soon because it is fairly close to my house. It is my go-to local course from now on.

My wife and I played there today. Course was in nice shape! Everyone we came in contact with went out of there way. I also had a club regripped, he dropped what he was doing and regripped my club immediately. We also had a hotdog and coke (Very good). We couldn't ask for our experience to be any better. Thanks!!!

We experienced one night in a room at Tanglewood. That was enough. ||||The good: the water was hot, the TV and air conditioner worked. The place sounded inviting adjacent to a golf course. However...||||The bad: the room had a terrible old-motel/chemical/insecticide smell. The beds had thin sheets, flat pillows, with old bedspreads tucked between the mattress and the box spring (I'm guessing in an attempt to keep the bedspreads off the floor so insects would have a harder time getting into the bed.) Found a spider on the inside of the front door. Big spiders hung out in two of the tall ceiling corners. One of the spiders made it down to the bathroom by morning and I disposed of it before it took us out. By morning ants were swarming the bathroom lavatory--I disposed of about 25. The room was noisy with guests above, with the walls shaking when doors slammed. The bottom of the bath tub paint had been scraped and marred and looked terribly dirty. The old shower curtain was torn. I would've rejected the room, but didn't have alternatives. Bottom line...we won't be back...and travelers beware.

Stay and play golf for a fantastic price and they let us play 18 holes the day we left.!! Drive a cart right up to your room that is located on the 10th fairway, and they have condo rooms too. A very friendly and accommodating staff is there to serve you. Beer is 30 for $30 !!!! They've finished remodeling the condo rooms and the others are next. This is an equally challenging course for everybody with great views and wildlife. There is a Mexican cuisine restaurant at the bottom of the hill for convenient dining, or drive 2 minutes into a very small town that offers home cookin' at its best. Specifically Lynda's Diner(seats 16) for fabulous, made-from-scratch, down-home cookin' (especially breakfast) and Hometown Pizza, that offers a full menu besides incredible homemade pizza. And if that isn't enough, at the corner of Taylorsville Rd. and Taylorsville Lake Rd. a guy named BILL has his grill and smokers set up Mon-Fri. offering the greatest ribs I have ever had IN MY LIFE--BAR NONE(he has chicken too!) All the local people know him. Taylorsville is about 30 minutes south of Louisville providing more options if you want them.|| We go down every year from Battle Creek, MI. for the early spring rates, but I recommend it year-round. We have a wonderful time and have never been disappointed.

Three of us golf nuts drove down from Lansing, Michigan for a 4 day 3 night stay at T'wood. The condo was quite nice. Large living room/dining room with a small walk out balcony, large kitchen, 2 bedrooms with large closets. The condos are located along #10 fairway so getting to the pro shop was just a short walk.||||The golf course is quite hilly and the greens were fair. Everyone we met were nice and friendly. We'll be back next year.
