Fabulous place to improve your fitness and overall quality of life. The key to longevity, success, and happiness in life is in one's approach to fitness. Whitaker gives anyone in Lexington the ability to devise a workout regimen and carry it through. With Covid's days hopefully mostly behind us, there is no excuse for not getting a personal fitness plan together, setting some achievable goals, and getting to work.

The Whitaker Family YMCA here in Hamburg is an amazing facility with a multitude of programs, exercise equipment, swimming pools, a wading pool and activities for citizens of ages. It continues to look as if it just opened because of the leadership its director, Dana Ensley, provides for the maintenance department as well as for the rest of the staff. Her positive approach to dealing with the Y clientele is reflected by all who work there as they tend to be professional, competent, and caring. We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful YMCA program and facility here in Hamburg!

I would give 0 stars if I could. My kids had a green band before in swimming, are in a swim team, can swim all 4 strokes, dive & flip, none of which they learnt at this location as the swim classes are bad here.
We went here one day for them to practice for a race they had the day after. Their green bands expired and they had to test for a new one. My older son who is about 4 feet and 5 inches tall, while threading water moved from one spot to another, and the lifeguard failed him and gave him a red band and said he can practice for his race with a life jacket. I wonder if people of all different races are treated with the same respect.
I have been a member with you for many years and its disappointing. The place is just getting worse by the day.

Who ever answers the phone here SUCKS. I called and she treated me like I was so dumb for not knowing their process, as she laughed with her coworkers. I will never return here or renew my membership. She also wanted to βcall me backβ instead of trying to resolve my simple question. Starting to think she just didnβt know how to even answer simple questions. She also stated she isnβt supposed to suspend my membership, thatβs itβs my βjobβ to do that. LOL

I love the Whitaker YMCA - its facilities are top notch. They offer so much and it is not too crowded that I cannot work out. It is very clean and has so many classes. I love the egym and it is perfect for someone who wants to work out their whole body but does not want to have to write everything down or move it as you grow stronger each time. I love my personal trainer at Beaumont too.

At the slightest whiff of thunder, their pool closes for 30 minutes. The only indoor pool I've been to so far that has had this inane rule (there are no documented pool/lightning related fatalities in the literature that I could find). Reconsider getting a membership if you're doing so only to use the pool, especially with the weather we have in Lexington.

Been a member here on and off for 8 years, renewed a few weeks ago and extremely dissatisfied. Staff are extremely rude and busy busy bodies, pool will burn your eyes out, and scattered Karenβs lurking to complain about anything you may or may not be doing and pick apart policies even when your minding your own business even your toddlers. Would rather workout in the park, home, or other locations. Kiddos used to love this place but the energy is run down and unprofessional. Management will go above and beyond to find a black staff member to speak with black members. And the cars race down the parking lot horriblyβ¦100% sure someone will-if not already-will be hurt walking to the building-speed bumps should be installed especially around the splash pad exits-Extremely dangerous to walk in the parking lot especially with kiddos! At minimum post a speed limit and safety signs for excessive speeding!

The exercises classes fill up and are unsafe. Not all of the classes require you to sign up and reserve a spot, so if you show up and the class is full you are SOL. Unfortunately, youβve already paid for the class as part of your membership. I complained to the staff at the front desk and they just argued with me about the class being full and laughed. Super rude. The instructor that day was too stupid to direct people to spread out, and could care less about safety. There is equipment stored in the fitness class room that people easily run into. The only reason I got to the Y is the classes, as parks are free and Planet Fitness is cheaper. Iβm definitely rethinking my membership.

July 7,2025 I was in steam room and a Man walked into the room and sprayed a water bottle with some sort of oil I can only guess into vents where steam was coming out! Instantly my heart started racing and i almost passed out, reported the incident to Mary at front, desk, Craig who was life guard and Dani Emsley was notified, I went back to get my belongings and tried to go into other dry steam room, but was not able to stay inside more than a few minutes, 15 minutes went by, no one came to talk to Guy who was still in steam room or check on me, I went back to front desk to file a complaint, of which I was never asked to sign, and I requested a copy by email and never received! I had to sit at front desk for over 20 minutes due to feeling faint and almost passing out! Dani never came and talked to me. I waited a until today to write this review because Mary stated that Dani would reach out to me, she or anyone never did! I dont feel safe going to this location! I can only imagine what other incidents go on at this location that go unreported! If this happens again, I will be getting a lawyer

I truly believe the YMCA facilitates are the best family gyms in our community. They are safe and sanitary, especially my neighborhood Y at Whitaker. With that being said, I donβt know that they are the most friendly. Because the Y does cater to such a large demographic, the elderly plays an important role in these facilities. Today I had an unpleasant encounter with an older pickleball member who spoke to me rudely after my toddler innocently grabbed a ball from the pickleball court. She snatched the ball out of his hand and aggressively stated those are privately paid balls and closed the bin of balls. My son could have cared less, but she made me (a struggling pregnant mother with a toddler) feel bad for an innocent mistake. Had I been raised differently, I would have put this lady in her place, but chose to walk away. Furthermore, I have had this same kind of behavior projected onto me by the elder female front desk staff as well. Theyβve scolded me for not scanning my toddler in or not being able to see him when he runs inside because heβs so small. One day, out of curiosity I asked the woman why the aquatic center closes when thereβs thunder and lightening and she looked at me annoyed and firmly said, βItβs closed.β All I was looking for was an explanation. I asked the black man with long hair who works there and he was able to tell me the logistics behind the protocol. He is my favorite employee by the way, he is always so happy to be there and be working. It really makes a difference when he smiles at us as we enter and makes us feel welcomed. Unlike the elders (just the women), who are always cranky and look like they hate their jobs.

Came into town during a snowstorm on the front end of a state swim meet. The staff at Whitaker went above and beyond to ensure our team was taken care of with lanes in the pool and a place to shower and recuperate. This experience was the pinnacle of my encounters with YMCAs across the country. Thank you!

Poorly designed family lockers. Great concept for ADA but NOT for a family juggling multiple children FREEZING from the blasting cold AC and open door straight to the rest
of the gym and hallway that is ALWAYS propped open. People without children are constantly using it despite not having children- including the young adult males playing basketball that hit on me minding my own business trying to tend to my child. They donβt belong in there. The staff give zero craps about anything there either. This is legit the worst YMCA I have EVER been to. Shame my kids donβt even want to go here because the kids pool area is lamely over crowded and full of kids who are unruly blasting mine in the face with squirt guns or spit. This YMCA makes me heavily consider ending my membership!

Iβm so disappointed I used to attend this place with all my family husband and children. We stopped going for two months. They still took the money out of my debit card which I was OK with because I never called to cancel even after we stop going. but when I went back, they told me I had to pay almost $300 to attend again because I never called to cancel but yet they took 2 months out of my debt card with none of the family attending not one time outta those 2 months we went so I went to the front desk, asked this really nice lady if there was anything they could do about it because I wanted to reenroll, they gave me this phone number at the front desk that said to call they could surely help me it shouldnβt be a problem but when I called the number they gave me she was so rude. She was just like thereβs βabsolutely nothingβ we can do. I barely got to explain the whole situation before she talked over me and it was absolutely nothing I was even willing to do payment plan which still was even gonna be a little ridiculous being that I didnβt attend for 2 months and even ask them to look it up in the system they could see we never checked inn at front deskfor the pass 2 months I understand they have to take the money out automatically and it has nothing to do with them but for them to see we paid faithfully and still didnβt attend n that there was absolutely nothing they can do is a lil sad, disappointing

Harassment. I was harassed by an older man at the pool, who told me that i looked good on swimsuit. I told him I am only 15, and he played dumb and continued to ask, You said how old? Our local Whitaker Family Y is superb because it is superbly led by Director Dana Ensley who has in the past and contiues to surround herself with very nice, smart, and capable people. Recently with some of our grandkids visiting from Atlanta and Louisville, she, Will (membership director),Katie, and Tom went beyond the call of duty to help me understand how the Y could best acommodate my guests, and in a way that would cost me, but not an arm and a leg. I also like it that the Y facility including locker and restrooms are clean. The facility and people there reflect an aura of happiness and success. Finally, Amber Serres, Ron, and Mary have also been helpful and exceedingly nice people with whom to interact.

We traveled from New York State (UAlbany) for the NCAA DI Track and Field Regional Championships and were looking for a place to get a quick workout in. We chose this gym based on its excellent reviews, despite being a 20-minute drive. However, upon arrival, the staff denied us entry simply because we were out of state, despite being longstanding YMCA members. We were even willing to pay for a one-day entrance, but they refused to accommodate us. I have visited over +100 gyms in multiple countries worldwide, and this is the first time I have been denied entry, even when offering to pay. This kind of treatment is unacceptable, especially for YMCA members and DI NCAA coaches. The YMCA should reconsider some of its policies.

I really appreciate the people who work there. As soon as you enter the building and while getting your card scanned there is always a "hello" and a "how are you" from the people like Mary and Ron and Kristen. And then when you enter the weight room, Jeff is always available to help with explanation how to use the machines (especially the new ones) and always has a smile and greeting for you. So for me it is the people that I like about the Y....you can have the best machines, the best pools, and clean restrooms (which the Y Whitaker has) but if you have to be subjected to grumpy people, it would not be a good place to go to... So thank you for a wonderful Y!!

TERRIBLE customer service and by far the worst YMCA experience Iβve had. Iβve been a member at the Y for a while and have gone to different locations. The employees Iβve encountered have been helpful. Never had an issue until I came here. The lady who was supposed to be helping me look up my account was so incredibly nasty when speaking to me when I came in this morning. The manager did absolutely nothing to help resolve the issue or address the employeeβs behavior. I have never once been made so unwelcomed in a space. Truly despicable. If youβre a nationwide member do yourself a favor and avoid this place.

Great location, they have alot of classes which I appreciated and everyone is very friendly. Sadly, I had to cancel my membership because Iβll be moving. FYI it takes 15 days to cancel membership so take that in mind.

It's fun to play at the Y.M.C.A.!
My wife LOVES the senior classes. As for me, I always got that note on my report-card that said "does not play well with others", so enjoy the FULL gym including state-of-the-art equipment where I can work at my own speed and level.

New to town? Even if you donβt live near Hamburg this is the best, most modern Y in town. I have a citywide membership and live closer to others but this is my preferred choice. Fitness. Enter is big and spacious, equipment is very good. Pool is always open for swimming laps alongside classes. Staff is cheerful and pleasant, always willing to help. Facility is clean and fresh.

One of the workers was very rude while telling the young men who were playing 4 on 4 to stop due to family time. There were two kids shooting off to the side and we asked to compromise as the kids had practice time reserved on the other court for numerous hours. She explained that we are allowed 50 minutes at the very end of the night, however, we have no opportunity to sign up for reserved time and we pay full membership prices. 98 percent of people on that side of the gym wanted to use the gym to run full games. I feel that a compromise is not that hard to find in this situation but instead she just screamed, was very sarcastic, rude, and waved her hands around. Cannot say Iβm pleased nor impressed with the professionalism and understanding behind this interaction.

From novice to seasoned athlete, this branch will meet your training needs. For instance, there potentially are eight squat stations between the main and functional training areas combined. That's a bunch for any gym. The facilities and grounds are always tidy inside and out. The staff is all-star. I wish the sauna wasn't co-ed, and was hotter, but I can live with that. Someone planned this place with attention to detail.
